A must see interview that Rachel Maddow tried gallantly to conduct with Republican Senator James Inhofe.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I found it very striking how Inhofe constantly made clear that he saw EVERY issue as having two sides. One the Godless liberal, brainwashing side, and the other his version of the revealed truth side.

No matter how brilliantly Rachel presented the facts, and how clearly she articulated them, he simply dismissed them as being incorrect, or poisoned with a liberal bias.

THIS is why the GOP wants to do away with public education, encourages the idea of faith over knowledge to the American population, and vilifies anybody who will not open wide and swallow their humongous load of bullshit.

I was also struck several times by Inhofe's condescending attitude toward Rachel Maddow.

That is "Doctor" Rachel Maddow to you, you anti-science, homophobic, snake oil salesman! And don't you fucking forget it!

You can see Rachel call Rep. Inhofe out on his connection to the "Kill the Gays" bill in Uganda by clicking here.

Now if you will excuse me I have to go punch something.

    Hey G Man, you're mentioned on Wonkette today related to your post about...

    Bristol Palin Has a Mommy Blog

    Bristol Palin has a blog, you guys, and for serious we are so jealous! It is super exciting and insightful and intimate and well-written and she promises lots of neat stuff, like maybe a picture of Tripp with a mohawk, if you are very very good and buy her book and watch her show and watch her other show and go see her lectures on inspirationalism and how to become a grandmother by 30. Now, you might think the following posts are illiterate enough to have been written by Bristol herself, but as the godless heathens at ImmoralMinority point out, the posts were originally signed by longtime Palin apparatchik Nancy French, who was all whoopsie, nah nah nah mang, I was just showing her how to use WordPress.

    From the comments:

    Translated by the Grift-O-Matic 2000™:

    [redacted] Over the past few years, I’ve made grifting mistakes, I’ve learned some lessons in grifting, and I’m trying to be a good grifter. After a few years of grifting the public conversation in a very griftastic fashion, we’re doing well. We have a “grifter-upper” in Alaska which I’m regrifting, and we’re trying to grift a life for ourselves.

    As you can tell, I’ve also decided to write a griftblog. Here I’d love to keep a record of the grifts that happen in my life and also to share them with my far-flung grifter friends. Wasilla is my home, of course, but so many of you [redacted]... supported my mother when she ran for Grift President, voted for me when I was on Grifting with the Stars, and snatched up my griftbook to make it a best grifter. It’s been my privilege to get to grift some of you – on the grifting trail, on my book grift, and even on Griftbook. I hope you consider this griftblog a way for you to be a part of my grifting in Alaska without having to put on more layers, buy hand warmers, or wear boots!

    Here on Lake Lucille, the grifting life is thankfully more ordinary than it has been the past few years. If you’d like to share in our grifts by following my new griftblog, leave a comment below to automatically receive a weekly grift-zine with my best grifts! (Also, if you haven’t already, fan me on Griftbook!) I’m thinking of [redacted]... doing some very fun griftaways, and maybe even comment on the next season of Grifting with the Stars.

    I watched the interview yesterday and found it difficult to view. He is one of those typical Republicans in Congress that has an attitude that stinks - Rachael was respectful and he was not of her. I absoultely detest the Republican men in our Congress! They need to be voted out this next election cycle and we need NEW and younger blood there.

      He is a member of The Family, the elite fundamentalist sect that operates within the highest levels of government. Jeff Sharlet wrote about this group and their secret maneuvers in "The Family" and in a second book "C Street". They are very powerful and twist Christianity to fit their worldview and their acquisition of power in the U.S. and around the world.

    Bill Clinton talks about GOP world view i.e. ideology vs. being idealistic in his latest book. Having a philosophy that is liberal or conservative is fine if you at open to facts. An ideology begins from the stance your beliefs are truth. No facts can change that. Everyone else us automatically wrong.

  11. Watched Rachel's interview with Inhofe twice yesterday. He totally reveals himself to be divisive and ignorant of a "middle way." With him, everything was "us and them," so he disqualifies himself as a credible source of information. I thought Rachel held her own, though. I know she's trying to engage more right-wingers, so she couldn't go for the jugular, but she did confront him on the "kill the Gays" bill in Uganda. To me, this interview gave great insight into the insanity of the "Right." Funny that they're called "Right" when they couldn't be more WRONG! My friends and family in England can't believe that ANY Americans would vote for Teabaggers and their ilk. I must send them Alexandra Pelosi's film of the inmates who run the asylum in the South.

    Peace, All. Now, more than ever, we need a Democratic (mostly women, please) landslide!!!

  12. I saw that last night and was amazed at Senator Inhofe. Does he have dementia? He made absolutely NO SENSE. None. Sorry, Senator. Our children need to compete in the world economy. The fact-based world. This science-denying, religion-based "education" of our children has to stop. If you want to send kids to private schools - or home school - have at it. But I want PUBLIC education based on fact. Not fantasy.

    O/T Game On for 'Game Change'

    ...Worse yet, she appeals to the worst side of the people by whipping up hate and vindictiveness against candidate Barack Obama and all liberals. Then she becomes a despised woman with more shenanigans up her sleeve than a leprechaun. Again, we saw this on TV after the campaign as she resisted disappearing back into the woodwork as staffers expected her to do. Instead, she became the torch bearer of the Tea Party and helped ramp up divisive politics to a feverish pitch...

  19. Talk about some word salad, Inhofe has mastered the talking in circles about ten other things other than the question asked much like the Palin and Bachmann method of 'fine interviewing'. It was obvious that he is used to overtalking anyone who challenges him and substituting folksy jabber for truth and wisdom. Despite Rachel owning his stupid butt on so many points he will slither home to OK thinking he really did a good job of snowing her. Fail Inhofe, epic fail. Rachel and staff likely had one of the best laff fests ever upon his exit.

As the airport manager quoted about Inhofe's refusal to adhere to the airport's landing instructions, "In over 50 years flying, three tours of Vietnam, I have never seen such a reckless disregard for human life in my life. Something needs to be done. This guy is famous for these violations.”

  25. I am seriously concerned about the future of our country. This "debate" show the problem. On one side we have highly educated, well informed on global issues and ready to engage with the important world concerns. On the other side we have home or church schooled people with a misinformed view of history, science, social issues, and world politics who deny anything that doesn't fit their narrow worldview. With these two groups, how is America going to function both at home and in the world?

    Inhofe: takes taxpayer trips, esp. to Africa, to spread the word of Jesus;
    Was CEO of Quaker Life Ins. Co. when it went bankrupt and then liquidated;
    Is notorious for landing his Cessna wherever he wants to, having caused near accidents. He believes he has the right to use whatever airfield he wants to, whenever he wants to.

As others have stated the GOPer/conservative method is to talk over and talk louder than the one you are talking too. It is strange, they think this method is not annoying to most of us. The best thing about Maddow's interview of Imhofe is how great it made her look.

    Despite all his irrational, divisive, "us and them" blather, she remained patient, respectful, unflappable, classy and even (somehow) upbeat.

    I get that "attitude" just about every day from some man or another, in the food store, out walking the dog, stopping in at the copy center, etc. When you are female, it's all just part of the every day world. "I'm smarter than you because I am a man."

    Rachel M. has the technique down pat. Give them just enough rope so they look like fools, and enjoy yourself.

    My grandmother couldn't vote until middle-aged. The grand-daughters of today's grand-daughters might (hope, hope, hope) never have to deal with this attitude.

    Inhofe looked like a well oiled political PR machine and Rachel looked like a well informed member of the public with legitimate questions.

    Michael Steele has impressed me as a thoughtful man in his discussions with Rachel, though I disagree with his logic.

    Inhofe did not impress me. All he is is a regurgitator of talking points, perfected through decades of practice at saying as little a possible in as many words a possible.
