Once again I am impressed with our President's sheer humanity.
Good for him for calling Sandra Fluke and telling her that her parents should be proud of her. I have little doubt that they are indeed proud of her.
On the other hand Limbaugh's day is going from bad to worse.
He is hemorrhaging advertisers, while there is an organized effort to boycott those who remain with him.
His name is being used to paint Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum as cowards and misogynists for not calling him out over his disgusting remarks.
And even Greta Van Susteren has been singled out by Mediaite as a hypocrite for staying silent on the issue when she has a long history of going after liberals and others for any perceived sexist remarks on THEIR part.
Limbaugh, who many believe is essentially in charge of the Republican party these days, is causing the kind of damage to his party that President Obama and the leaders of the DNC could only dream of doing on their own.
In the past individuals who have said far less inflammatory things on the air, like Don Imus, Ed Schultz, and David Shuster, were suspended or their remarks or lost their jobs altogether.
So one must ask, is there a double standard when it comes to Rush Limbaugh? Is EVERYBODY too afraid of his fat ass to fire him or demand that he be suspended?
This piece of shit is a fucking bully and he needs to be taught that he cannot abuse people like this and get away with it. Perhaps if he loses enough advertisers Clear Channel will finally get the message that his kind of hateful rhetoric is just not welcome in Barack Obama's America.
(I added that last part just to REALLY piss off the racists!)
Rush doesn't have any idea of the power of social media. Neither do his listeners. They're going to get a crash course!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Rush knows radio but he will soon see the power of the internets
DeleteI just posted on my Facebook profile that if you do not loudly denounce Limbaugh for this, that you will be perceived as agreeing with him.
ReplyDeleteAfter his double down comment about how girls getting birth control paid for them, should videotape their sexual encounters and put them online so Rush and his cronies can masturbate to them, you'd THINK that pretty well EVERY woman out there, would be outraged.
Its a testament to how deeply brainwashed the radical, extremist rightwingers actually are, that the ONLY cries against this misogynist, disgusting fool, are coming from NORMAL women.
And yet - after reading the article on Mediate calling on Greta to speak out against this extremist pig - I read the comments - the comments there, the majority of them, were equally as extreme as Limpballs, and also following a link to some right wing woman hater diaper wearing misogynist's blog post smearing Ms. Fluke - with most of those commenters even more repulsive and out of this world misogynistic crazies! I was just so angry and sickened.
DeleteA few commenters called them out, but I am telling you - WOW, what has happened to the sanity of these people? And all of the commenters embracing the behavior of Limpballs equating birth control with being a "slut", and posting a porn tape so they could get "something" in return for "allowing" women access to birth control, as well as the diaper wearer's smear blog post - were all MEN! I just can't tell you how disturbing these freak bastards are - I mean, have we all died and gone to hell? Surely the only place such hate and filth could exist is HELL! I didn't mince words - I just couldn't! I hope each of those "men" never ever get any woman to sink low enough to have sex with them, til the day they do us all a favor and die! For those who want "nobler" words instead of "sinking" to their level - go ahead and give me the lecture now about how awful it is to say such a disgusting thing - sometimes filth deserves filth back, and you fight fire with fire, and the truth needs to be stated!
I'm seeing the same thing. Even those that agree it is horrible, they think it is free speech. Well, not by slander laws, it isn't. I hope she sues him. He likes controversy. He could care less if they lose an ad or two. The radio station isn't losing money. They won't care. The only way to make a statement is by suing him. She is a private citizen. He has lied and caused harm to her reputation, her safety, not to mention he keeps harassing her even today. No apology. No slap on the wrist, even. I'm so angry I cannot even sleep. And I'm not even a feminist. I'm just so offended, not only by Rush, but by the comments on all the articles.
DeleteDebinWI
AMEN SISTER!!!
DeleteWow, bitter bitch table for one! You plate-o-BS is ready and piping hot!
DeleteYet girls and women are reminded again that they know in their hearts that daring to speak up for their rights exacts a dreadful toll. The damage is done.
ReplyDeleteHey Uncle Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteIt just dawned on me. Now that Breitbart is out of the way, Rush is back on top. Losing Breitbart was the one thing Rush, of all people, was celebrating as his voice was much louder and heard by more people since he was on the internet.
Makes complete sense now for Rush to try to bring back the glory days of the Rush of the 1990s and early 2000s. Unfortunately, the constituency has changed and the mood of the country has shifted. Let's see how he likes a taste of his own medicine when the push-back comes.
Keep talking Rush! Keep talking!
I agree with you 100% and I'm thrilled to hear he's losing advertisers. I'm also wondering if we are going to hear an apology from him on Monday. If so, that'll be a first as far as I know. I am also curious of how many listeners he's lost, if any. The Ditto Heads, like the Palinbots, let Limbaugh do all their thinking for them and buy into his insanity.
ReplyDeleteRush will never apologize. He's the male Sarah Palin.
DeleteHe won't lose listeners. They love it. He will, however, lose advertisers. It doesn't matter how many listeners he has if no advertiser will pay to reach the listeners.
DeleteFrom what I can see from comments, he's loved even more for saying those things.
DeleteIt's been a bad week for the right wing bigots - dare one hope the US is coming back from the edge of insanity.
ReplyDeleteI often think that Limbaugh and Palin create chaos because they want Obama to win. They can make $$$ money with 4 more years of bashing and don't have to learn many new talking points. However. I am sure they would cause much angst for a Repub president, too, thinking they are President and Vice President from the sidelines.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maddow and others that Limbaugh says things to provoke people. He is talking nonsense that ignorant people will believe is fact. I can't remember who I first heard claiming birth control pills are abortions.
ReplyDeleteThat is not what they do. If no egg is produced then no conception occurs. It seems repubs say things that are misinformation.
Romney was a wimp about this. Can anyone inform me how big their base of extremist ignoramus is that they cater to them to the point of polishing the know nothing Palin?
I like the sperm arguments from female law makers. Reminds me of "Legally Blond" "reckless abandonment" legal argument.
DeleteIf we don't hear from each and every Republican Presidential candidate in the next 24 hours, we'll know who's in charge.
ReplyDeleteOf them.
The person in charge of our country will remain Barack Obama until 2017. Thanks, Rush!
Malia Littman has an on-going updated list of Rush's sponsors. I've been emailing them & posting on sponsor's facebook walls. Also filed an online complaint with the FCC. ProFlowers can't even keep up with the deletion of FB posts as they are continuously streaming in at over 2,000 anti-Rush comments are still there. Don’t forget to let your local radio stations hear from you. Here is a state-by-state map of where they are provided by none other than viagara-popping Limpdoughballs :

-Colleen
Yes, Colleen, I spent a good part of today writing e-mails to every one of them as well. I think ProFlowers has dropped their sponsorship along with several others. The rest (maybe three of them?) have yet to follow.
DeleteI'll check Malia to make sure I didn't miss anyone... :)
Note to Bristol and Willow,
ReplyDeleteI know you read here and so I am warning you most sincerely, do NOT read Shailey Tripp's book. No child should read the sordid details of their father's criminal life.
Yeah, Bristol and Willow, don't read Shailey TRIPP's book.
DeleteAnd whatever you do, Don't name your son TRIPP either, someday he may google it and read Shailey's book, no grandson should read about his grandpa's extramarital pecadillos.
Ooops, too late! She DID name him Tripp!
Ruhh Ro! Someone's got some 'splaining to do!
Todd had some very disgusting fetishes, that's for sure. But what he did was so much worse than engage in an extramarital affair or two along the way.
DeleteHe targeted women, vulnerable women in difficult life situations and he turned them out and pimped them out to his cronies. No wonder Sarah is such an expert in crony capitalism. It has been the family business for a long time.
Gryphen, I hope that a post or 2 will be devoted to Shailey's book.
And again, to the Palin kids, please do not read this book.
Note to Tripp...
DeleteDon't be on a reality tv show. You will be exploited and your precious childhood will be on display. Your mother does not have your best interest in mind. Just tell her "no!"
Too bad you have no say in the matter, even though your name is in the title.
Rachel just did the best smackdown/analysis of how supid Rush is...and he obviously has no clue how birth control works..he's equating a pill to a condom, think about it, only reason he claims the "sluts" and "whores" need so much is they have so much sex
ReplyDeleteHe should be so lucky.
DeleteI don't know about the humanity part,he is gaining more of the the women's vote.
ReplyDeleteEither way, humanity or politics the further away he moves from Rahm's attitude towards humanity is nice to see.
Do you have a translator?
Deletewhat???
DeleteI am hoping that this is the beginning of the end of this nasty piece of work and those like him.
ReplyDeleteM from MD
Just back from the Pond where the babies are bickering over Ted Nugent's endorsement of Mittens (so discouraged are they!) and where 95% of them are defending Rush's comments. You know, you don't do the dirty unless you want babies, riiight? And no woman wants fewer than, say, six or eight or ten of 'em--'cause Gawd sez so! They're also tut-tutting about Ms. Fluke "saying" that she had "sex three times a day" and expected "us" to pay for her contraception--no one mentioned, of course, that the pill is very often taken for health reasons. That rationale doesn't exist in Bot World.
ReplyDeleteBut here's absolutely the BEST comment I've ever read in the C4Pee puddle:
"Bristol has done a great job as an abstinence-only advocate. That's what's needed to raise moral youth in a decent, Christian society..."
Oy. Vey!
Hey! Where's Rill Amurikan Feminist SP on this matter? Has she opened her yap yet, or is she still sucking up to Rushbo?
I thought that young woman wanted to testify about her friend's experience. I haven't seen anything about her wanting birth control for herself. Did I miss something? Not that it matters.
DeleteOne time after surgery for endometriosis, fibroids and cysts I was put on megadoses of birth control for several months. Those hormones were supposed to reinforce the surgery. It had nothing whatsoever to do with birth control. I thought this kind of medical question was the issue the young woman meant to discuss in her testimony.
His disparaging remarks are horrible and he is just an icon who is saying insulting things to those he perceives as weaker than himself.
ReplyDeleteThe other HUGE thing he displays, as do the other ignorant REthugs, is that he doesn't know what birth control is or how it works.
He thinks, and you have to figure the other @#$#holes in the peetarty do as well, that birth control pills function just like Viagra - take a new one to perform.
The ugliness, igorance, stupidity, hatred, racism, faux religion, and deprivation of women's rights ought to be enough for any citizen to get to the voting booth and vote all these right wing nuts out.
Is there any way we can vote and end up with the independents and democrates being the two parties our country has? It is way past time the KKK, Tparty and right wing nuts go sit in the corner and suck their thumbs, as that is one thing they might be capable of doing. They surely have not acted on or proposed, or talked about anything substantive. We are in a static situation due to their empty headed lemming mentality.
Down with their leader - Limpbalz - don't buy anything from any of his sponsors - ever again. This is just another episode of the puke he has been spewing for decades. He should have been gone long ago.
This was simply a gift to the Democrats.
ReplyDeleteNo amount of money could buy the Democratic votes that will result. The youth have been a bit jaded about voting; I think that's all about to change in this election.
I like that: Barack Obama's America. My America. Our America. And rightwingers are welcome to, as long as they can show respect for all, play well with others, and turn off Fox and jockstrap radio.
ReplyDeleteNo cite for this, but I seem to recall that Clear Channel is owned by - Bain Capital! You know, from which Dog-on-Car still receives $M in contracted pay for shares. Not the language he'd have used, but he doesn't mind making a few $ off the fat blowhard either.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet a shiny new dime that Tubbo's Viagra is covered by his insurance plan. The Oxycontin? Not so much. In a world of few absolutes, he's an absolute douchebag.
ReplyDeleteOur president, on the other hand: well, he's just aces in my book!
And Gryphen, please refrain from mentioning that fat fuck sack of shit and masturbation in the same sentence. Thats a mental picture absolutely no one needs in their head...
See Milia Littman's blog for Rush's advertisers.
ReplyDeleteJULY 6, 2006--Rush Limbaugh was traveling with four other men--including the producers of the hit show "24"--when he was detained over a mislabeled bottle of Viagra found in his luggage during a Customs search, records show.
ReplyDeleteA Department of Homeland Security passenger manifest shows that Limbaugh and his four buddies flew from the Dominican Republic on a Gulfstream IV jet owned by Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates his radio program.
Limbaugh returned to Palm Beach, Florida on June 26 with Joel Surnow, "24"'s co-creator and executive producer and Howard Gordon, another of the Fox hit's executive producers (Hollywood agent Jeffrey Benson was also part of the Limbaugh quintet).
With all those guys in tow, it is unclear what the radio host needed with the 29 100mg Viagra pills listed on a seized property receipt.
The passenger manifest was among several documents released today by the Palm Beach County State's Attorney in response to a TSG open records request. Included in the material released was a copy of the handwritten statement Limbaugh provided investigators after he was detained upon the discovery of the impotency drug.
In that statement, Limbaugh claimed that the drug had been prescribed in his doctor’s name “to protect my privacy, given the potential embarrassing nature of Viagra.”
An affidavit sworn three days later by Limbaugh was also released. In that document, Limbaugh explains that the Viagra "was intended for my exclusive use" and that the drug had been prescribed in the name of his drug treatment doctor, Steven Strumwasser. (4 pages)
This is in reply to Rene's comment at 6:28 - the reply button was not working - It is totally irrelevant if Rush was just trying to "get attention" or not. The thoughts, feelings, idiology he voiced are not acceptable. period. He must be denounced for his ignorance and hatred
ReplyDeleteOf course there's a double standard. Rush is untouchable. (Well, we *was*)
ReplyDeleteAnd I wouldn't hold my breath on Greta. See above. She'll be the last in line to attack Rush and only if it's safe for her to join in.
I truly thought Ann Coulter would have made a one-upman me too statement just to get her share of attention. Can't believe she'd allow Rush to steal the spotlight.
Oh, and let me say that when I was on the pill had had no debilitating cramps, was regular as clockwork and enjoyed a clear complexion. That's why I took it, for hormone regulation. My Doctor's never believed me so I just said "I want the pill" and basically self-medicated myself out of crippling cramps and other shall we say inconveniences. Yes, there are other reasons for going on the pill.
Contraception is also prescribed to many women during early menopause to help regulate hormones. It helped me through horrible cramps and heavy bleeding that sent me to the emergency room and left me seriously vitamin deficient and anemic- very sick. Sorry to be so descriptive, but these issues are important and need to be discussed. Keeping them as private matters any allows this continued level of ignorance and dismissal.
Deletemy doctor put me on 'the pill' at age 16 because I had periods that would last for 7-12 days. Not only did I suffer horrid cramping, but I also ran the risk of becoming anemic. After one year I was regular, out of pain and healthy again.
Deletewe never figured out the cause, but the birth control worked so I didn't care.
I do NOT understand why this part of health care is being regulated by a group of men and not women but I'm pretty sure we can vote a crapload of them out in November.
Didn't Limbo ruin the GOP spin that the Blunt amendment was all about 'God's will on earth as it is in heaven?
ReplyDeleteBecause of the word limit I have to make this in 2-3 posts I think.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rush and the GOP clown show for making more people ‘Fired Up: Ready to Go’. Let's not ever forget the story President Obama related of “the little” woman who started that chant long ago, in Greenwood, S.C. Her name is Councilwoman Edith Childs, and she’s gone on to fire up other chants in support of her candidate.
I love how Obama explains what he heard from this lady in the purple hat. It's like listening to the best bedtime story and it always enthuses me so much so that I love to spread and repeat this from Sept. 2009. Hah hah I've even found myself incorporating the slogan 'Fired Up: Ready to Go!' in everyday conversation and activities even when I'm talking to myself lol. I recommend repeating this phrase often! It's very positive.:
THE PRESIDENT: ...Minnesota, we are closer to reform than we've ever been before, but this is the hard part. This is when the special interests and the insurance companies and the folks who think, you know, this is a good way to bring Obama down -- (boos) -- this is when they're going to fight with everything they've got. This is when they'll spread all kinds of wild rumors designed to scare and intimidate people. That's why I need your help. (Applause.)
AUDIENCE: Yes we can! Yes we can! Yes we can!
THE PRESIDENT: You know, there have been -- there have been some of the pundits in Washington who have been saying, well, maybe you've been trying to do too much.
AUDIENCE: No!
THE PRESIDENT: Maybe you've been pushing too far too fast.
AUDIENCE: No!
THE PRESIDENT: And I try to remind them, I said, listen, I never said change would be easy. (Applause.) Change is hard. It's always been hard. When FDR -- when FDR decided that Social Security was something that seniors needed -- (applause) -- when FDR decided -- when FDR introduced Social Security, you know what happened? They called it socialism. But senior citizens decided that, you know what? If I've got some protection in my golden years, that's something that's worth fighting for. (Applause.) When Medicare -- when Medicare was introduced as an idea, they said this is going to be a government takeover of Medicare. But imagine what seniors would be dealing with right now if they didn't have Medicare. Every time we've made progress it's because ordinary people banded together and they stood up and they said, we've got to make progress, and we're going to push and we're going to prod until Washington finally reacts, finally responds. (Applause.)
I've always believed -- because I've always believed that change doesn't come from the top down; it comes from the bottom up. It doesn't start in Washington, D.C.; it begins in places like Minneapolis, it begins in places like St. Paul. (Applause.) It begins with you sharing your stories, fighting for something better. (Applause.) That's how change happens. That's what's happening right now. (Applause.)
AUDIENCE: Yes we can! Yes we can! Yes we can!
About a month later, I've been campaigning in Iowa for weeks -- (applause) -- haven't seen my family -- got some Iowa folks in the house? (Applause.) I'm exhausted. I get into Greenville, South Carolina, about midnight. I get to my hotel about 1:00 a.m. I'm dragging to the hotel. I'm carrying my bags, ready to hit the pillow. And suddenly my staff says, "Sir?" I said, "What?" (Laughter.) They said, "Sir, you have to be in the car at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow -- in the morning." (Laughter.) I said, "Why is that?" They said, "Because you've got to go to Greenwood like you promised."
ReplyDeleteNext morning, I wake up and I feel awful, I feel terrible. I'm exhausted. And I stagger over to the window to pull open the blinds, and it's pouring down rain outside, terrible day. I go out and I get some coffee and open up the newspaper -- bad story about me in The New York Times. (Laughter.) I pack up, I go downstairs. As I'm walking to the car my umbrella blows open and I get drenched. (Laughter.) So by the time I'm in the car I'm wet and I'm sleepy and I'm mad. (Laughter.)
And I drive -- and we drive and we drive and we drive -- hour and a half, we just keep on driving. (Laughter.) Finally we get to Greenwood -- although you don't know that you're in Greenwood right away. (Laughter.) It's not like Minneapolis. (Laughter.) So there's a little field house in a park, and we go into the field house, I walk in, I get a little more wet. I walk in -- lo and behold, 20 people there. (Laughter.) Twenty people. And I'm already thinking about the fact I've got another hour and a half I've got to drive back. (Laughter.) And they're all kind of damp and they don't look like they're that happy to be there. The state rep had dragged them to the meeting.
But that's okay. I have a job to do. I'm running for President, I shake their hand, I say, "How do you do, what do you do, nice to meet you." Suddenly I hear this voice should out behind me: "Fired up?" (Laughter.) And I almost jumped out of my shoes. (Laughter.) But everybody else acts like this is normal and they all say, "Fired up!" And then I hear this voice: "Ready to go?" And the people around me, they just say, "Ready to go!" I don't know what's going on. So I look behind me, and there's this little woman there. She's about 5'2", 5'3", she's maybe 50, 60 years old. And she looks like she's dressed for church. She's got a big church hat. (Laughter.) And she's just grinning at me, just smiling. And she points at me and she says "Fired up?" (Laughter and applause.)
ReplyDeleteWait, wait, the story gets better here. It turns out that she is a city councilwoman from Greenwood named Edith Childs -- that's her name -- and she's also known as the chant lady because she does this chant wherever she goes. She goes, "Fired up?" "Fired up!" "Ready to go?" "Ready to go!" (Laughter.) And she does this at every event she goes to. She's also, by the way, we discovered later, she also moonlights as a private detective but that's a -- (laughter) -- true story. True story.
But she's well known for her chant, so for the next five minutes, she starts chanting. She says, "Fired up?" And everybody says, "Fired up!" "Ready to go?" "Ready to go!" And this just keeps on going. And I realize I'm being upstaged by this woman. (Laughter.) And I'm -- she's getting all the attention, and I'm standing there looking at my staff and they're shrugging their shoulders. (Laughter.) But here's the thing, Minneapolis. After about a minute, maybe two, I'm feeling kind of fired up. (Laughter and applause.) I'm feeling -- I'm feeling like I'm ready to go. (Applause.)
ReplyDeleteAnd so -- so for the rest of the day, every time I saw my staff, I'd say, "Are you fired up?" They'd say, "I'm fired up." "Are you ready to go?" They'd say, "I'm ready to go." (Applause.) And it goes to show you how one voice can change a room. (Applause.) And if it changes a room it can change a city. And if it can change a city it can change a state. And if it can change a state it can change a nation. If it changes the nation it can change the world. (Applause.) It can bring health care to every American. It can lower our costs. It can make your insurance more secure. I want to know, Minnesota, are you fired up?
AUDIENCE: Fired up!
THE PRESIDENT: Ready to go?
AUDIENCE: Ready to go!
THE PRESIDENT: Fired up?
AUDIENCE: Fired up!
THE PRESIDENT: Ready to go?
AUDIENCE: Ready to go!
THE PRESIDENT: Fired up?
AUDIENCE: Fired up!
THE PRESIDENT: Ready to go?
AUDIENCE: Ready to go!
THE PRESIDENT: They can't stop us. Let's go get this done. Thank you, everybody. God bless you. (Applause.)
Love ya all -Colleen
I love that story. I love your president and I love my president.
DeleteFired up and ready to go! :)
Thank you for sharing that gorgeous story of our President. He's a shining Star! I would love to find this video. That little lady was a hoot and so full of life!
DeleteI am SO FIRED UP and READY TO GO!
LANDSLIDE 2012!
I really love our president.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Four more years!
DeleteInteresting thing that came out of Palin's interview with Greta tonight. Greta made sure that she made a point to get it out that the first time that she met Palin was at the 2004 Republican Convention when Palin, mayor of Wasilla, chased her down a hall to meet her. So Palin was at Madison Square Garden in New York in 2004. Very Interesting that this has never come out until tonight and that Greta was the one that made it known...
ReplyDeleteSo Palin was trolling the RNC in 2004 yet this has never been mentioned until now. If she chased Greta down the hall, then I can just imagine her making sure that all men there made sure to know who she was. This must have been when she connected with Greta's husband also.
DeleteThis caught Palin off guard and she tried to move on, but Greta was determined to make a point that this was out there. Could be Greta is FINALLY sick and tired of having to have Palin on like everyone else at Fox, except for wimpy Hannity.
DeleteIf'n i was $arah, Greta's little aside to the world would make me very, very nervous.
DeleteIt would make me fee as if my Fox Friends were trying to distance themselves from me.
Heh heh.
Poor old Palin was likely in NYC hoping to rub elbows and share hair secrets with Ivana Trump and all she got was a lousy t-shirt and a run-in with Greta.
DeletePoor Palin. She was probably in NYC hoping to find Ivana Trump and all she got was a lousy 'I Loathe NY' t-shirt and a run-in with Greta.
DeleteClear Channel is MORMON-OWNED.
ReplyDeleteThink about it.
Women ought to be barefoot, subservient, obedient, and most-of-all pregnant. All the time. And if you don't have enough babies, the Church Elder will come around stressing God's will and the wife's duty. Funny how the pregnancy rates in a town go up a few months after the Elder comes and preaches about God's first commandment to go forth and multiply.
The last thing these Mormons want is for women to take control of our own bodies and lives... even if we aren't Mormon.
Thank you for that information about Clear Channel being owned by a "religion". I will dig into that nfo shortly to fact check. If so, I'll be sure to NOT recommend Clear Channel to the residents of the all the buildings I manage in my very large city, Seattle. BTW as an asset & bldg. mgr. I get bonuses & discounts for recommending certain services to residents of buildings I manage, so yes I do have some influence as my buildings rent to people of many, many and various people from other cultures - you know, the land of the free and multi-culturalism that the tea party hates even though they were born of immigrant multiculturalists parents.
DeleteEvery day I deal with people from many countries and often need the services of interpreters. They look to me for certain advice. I will be sure to steer them away from any sponsors of Limbaugh including Clear Channel.

Salute.... Even Sarah the Monkey Queen is going to end up with a bucket of hillbilly crap poured over her head as a result of this..... Har... Har... Har...
ReplyDeleteI love how President Obama handled this whole situation, what a brilliant man! He supported this courageous young lady wholeheartedly with that phone call. Then he turned Rush's vile words directly on the shoulders of the do nothing GOP.
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud to see everyone, men and women, getting involved, and seeing it take hold. Can't wait for Super Tuesday to see the clowns hemming and hawing and bashing the President.
But this isn't over, we've got to keep fighting the good fight, we need to re-elect President Obama, and hopefully give him a Democratic Congress to do the work of the people.
Our lives and rights depend on it, literally.
Hi y'all !
ReplyDeleteI just woke up here in Europe and I heard that story on the radio (Radio France International). It's the first time I hear anything about the US in this time slot on that broadcast !
And guess what : not only was this segment not positive at all for Limbaugh, but it also gave exposure to the fact that the access to contraception is being challenged in the US - something I never read about in European mainstream media until today.
Thanks to this moron, millions of citizens of the world now know that the US President gave a personal call to Sandra Fluke...
I just checked, the BBC has also picked up the story, it's the most popular read right now (and it's not praising Limbaugh) : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-17241803
Thank you so much for this!
DeleteDavid Letterman made a joke about Sarah's knocked up daughter, and Sarah spent an entire week demanding that his show be tossed off the air, arranging a Hate David Letterman Rally, and demanding apology after apology.
ReplyDeleteYes, the term, "knocked up" is crude. Yes, Bristol had been introduced to the United States as an unmarried teen who was pregnant. She never did get married. But, the truth is that Bristol had been "knocked up," she had been "with child," "had a bun in the oven," say it any way you want. Bristol had unprotected sex while she claimed to have been on the pill-- not to prevent pregnancy but because of her periods. Still, by Rush Limbaugh's definition, Bristol was a slut, too.
Sarah was outraged over the Letterman joke, but she hasn't said anything about Limbaugh's distasteful comments-- worse than "knocked up." Limbaugh now claims that he was just joking, too, well, about the porn movies. He certainly isn't joking about the rest of it. He thinks women take a birth control pill every time they have sex. It doesn't work that way. But then, after four marriages and no children, I don't think that Rush has figured out some other things, either.Or else, he and Newt are enjoying a different kind of marital relations, and the little woman doesn't need to take a pill for that. I wonder what he was doing with that suitcase filled with Viagra in the Dominican Republic-- but that's another story.
I've been engaging in a bit of self-flagellation over in the comments at Yahoo. I'm horrified that there are so many Fox/Rush fans there. There are many comments far more obscene than Rush's that slide right through. I rarely comment there, but I couldn't keep quiet about all the misinformation being spread. Little did I know that the c-word is acceptable, but links - providing facts - are not. These people are not interested in facts. Any comments including facts were given more thumbs-down than up, while the lies and nasty comments were given thumbs-up. One reasonable person questioned why it's acceptable for insurance companies to cover Viagra but not contraceptives. One nimrod actually replied "If you watched Fox you'd know the difference." A lot of people think the insurance coverage is free, taxes pay for it, and, yes, Sandra Fluke needs $3000 worth of condoms a year. On the bright side, I learned some new facts about this controversy while fruitlessly trying to educate these people.

Special thanks to Colleen for lifting my spirits. I know it's a long story, but I highly recommend reading it!
One thing for sure: the Republicans have lost a whole generation of young women, who'll be voting for 50 years +; this is the defining issue that they'll remember about the GOP.
ReplyDeleteThe whole world is hearing about scumbag Limbaugh.

Here's a link to the Reddit campaign to remove Rush's advertisers:

I was in the very first Male/Female Basic Training in Fort McClellan Alabama in 1979. It was so historic that Pres Ford came to our graduation! The whole basic training we were told that YOU are setting the example for women coming next, if this doesn’t work, then that will be on your shoulders to live with. PROVE it to the men and the country that women CAN do everything a man can do, including the military basic training! When we were given the option to do girl push ups or men push up, we ALL choose the mens push ups to prove we could keep up (and sometimes exceed) the men! Let me tell you, there were PLENTY of drill Sergeant’s and other high ups on base that felt women would prove to be too distracting and that women should be separated from the men at all times and tried to sabotage us at every step….
ReplyDeleteThen it got worse…
1979.
18 years old.
The Army.
Germany, sent out to the field for the first time.
The only woman and 1500 men.
I was the Medic, they were Engineers.
Alone, in the dark being watched, only I didn’t know
Vilseck, Germany after two weeks without a shower, we were allowed to go to Tent city for 2 days.
Much Celebrating. Much Drinking. After showers the partying started.
I was invited.

Something wrong….
Room spinning
Dizzy
can’t walk
being carried
pass out
wake up
can’t move
tied up
can’t talk
gag in mouth
voices
someone on me
wet between the legs
laughter
another body on me
tears
another body
all night
over and over again
how many?
Don’t know
too many
over and over again
thrusting
sweaty
pawing
pain
tearing
more laughter
in and out of conscience
how many?
could be twenty
could be a hundred
all ranks
all sizes
all ages
all penises
all thrusting
all sweating
lots of pain
smell of greasy tent
smell of booze
smell of tobacco
smell of man sweat
smell of semen
smell of sex
all thrusting
all groping
all squeezing
all pawing
only one, who when he saw my tears, stopped in his tracks
But he walked out, and another came in to take his place
over and over again
no help
none in sight
all night long
in and out of reality
in and out of dreams
more body’s
more men
more thrusting
how many hours?
finally the sweet release of awareness
awakening
naked
in the showers
bruises and blood everywhere
Pain
oh my God the pain
all consuming pain
my clothing in a pile

put on uniform
met at door, by commanding Officer
stern words about MY behavior
told if I talked, it would be MY fault
Threatened with prison for “enticing”
handed orders to be transfered
Told to pack my bags
Transportation waiting
Warned again
If you talk, you die
or worse
watching blindly as the trees roll by
curling up inside of me
hiding the pain
hoping the pain will fade
as the bruises do
can’t walk, can’t sit, can’t take a shit
blaming myself
Others have
so why not me?
Guilt
it weighs on a mind
remembering what was said
silence it is my friend
denial
lock the pain away
never talk they said
never talk I did
The pain it became my friend
To this day, it never ends.
OMFG get some help, scream as loud as you can, there are people who will listen. You are my age and to have lived with this for so long, OMFG GOOOOOOOOO NOW! I am so sorry for your pain, but you have to make it right.
DeleteYou have spoken now. It was not your fault. As dmoreno56 has said...get some help. You do not have to live with this pain.
DeleteYou are important, you are worthy, you were not responsible. I am so very sorry for your pain. Please care for yourself.
DeleteYou need to speak up.
DeleteBecause they're still doing it.
Romney will have to be very careful criticizing Rush as Bain Capital partnerships are part owners of Clear Channel. Even tho CC probably only provides Mitt with a paltry few million in dividends and compensation. Hey, the guy has mansions and cars to keep shiny, mustn't disturb his revenue stream.
ReplyDeleteKnow what happens when you call Rushbo a lying, evil racist scumbag mysogynist to his face?
ReplyDeleteHe just blushes and says 'thank you'.
Love, love, love that Sleep Train pulled its ads. I went to college with the owner; he and Rush go waaay back to when Rush had his first show in Sacramento and there was only one Sleep Train store. So proud of Sleep Train and all the others that have the guts to pull away from that blowhard.
ReplyDeleteRachel Maddow made an interesting point last night.
ReplyDeleteWhich is that Rush and Romney don't seem to know what the birth control pill does, or why many women use it for reasons other than not getting pregnant. (Much less it is possible to take the pill for more than one reason.)
(She did forget to point out that most of the women who use it are married and their husbands know.)
However it did appear from the clip she ran that Rush and Romney "seem" think you take a pill every time you have sex, (its that aspirin thing again.)
If that is so then you really have to wonder what universe they live in. BC pills became available in the mid to late 60's as I recall, the morning after pill has only been widely available this century.
Which is to say these two man stopped learning when they were still in their adolescence or early teens.
I don't believe that Sandra has said why she takes the pill. After all she may be the woman who lost her ovary to an ovarian cyst due to the lack of access to a medicine that would have protected it.
That could very well explain her passion about this issue.
What do you expect from that fat ass JUNKIE! He and that skank bitch from Alaska probably have the same Oxy drug dealer.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering where all the men in this girls life are? I know this...if someone ever called my wife or girlfriend a slut or prostitute i'd walk into that fat eunuchs broadcast studio or catch him outside and beat the sh*t outa him...thats the way we do thing here in north dakota if anyone disrespects our women...
ReplyDeleteAlthough you seem to be on the right side of this issue, your attitude toward women hardly seems progressive. Ms. Fluke is 30 years old - she is not a girl and "our women" - really? That suggests ownership. We have so far to go...
DeleteJust read that Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans has pulled his advertising from Rush too. Good for him...but wonder why he ever advertised with the jerk in the first place.
