The sporting world’s best-known Christian will deliver a 20-minute sermon at a Texas church this weekend to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Joe Champion of the Celebration Church in Georgetown, Texas, said he had no idea why the Jets’ newest addition picked their “Easter on the Hill” worship service for his appearance.
But he made it clear that Tebow’s role this Sunday is similar to his gig with Gang Green: He’s not the first-stringer.
“It’s not a Tim Tebow show,” Champion told KVUE-TV. “It’s not about celebrity. There’s really only one celebrity that we are going to honor and highlight.”
A crowd of about 30,000 — well less than the usual turnout for a Tebow Sunday appearance — was expected at the Celebration Church in Georgetown, Texas, according to Yahoo! Sports.
“Obviously it’s our Super Bowl,” Champion told KVUE-TV. “Easter is the resurrection of Christ, which we celebrate in our faith. We feel like it’s going to be a testimony to the community. We want it to be a family event.”
Yep, nothing says respectful religious service like having a self aggrandizing attention whore come to your church and distract people from the central message represented by this most holy of days.
What, was Sarah Palin already busy?
I don't like seeing his display of faith on the football field! I'm sick and tired of religion being crammed down our throats in just about everything we see in our country today!
ReplyDeleteHe went to the correct place today to show his faith - in a church where others agree with him.
I think these christians in our country today should keep their beliefs to themselves. There are many of us that don't believe, or agree, with them to which we normally keep our mouths shut. But, I sense that changing!
Oh Puke! This guy comes off as a fake to me.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday baby jesus.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you right now this is not going to sit well with a lot of people out there. He's a football player and his self-promotion and self aggrandizing is going to wear thin pretty fast.
ReplyDeleteIt already has!
DeleteThere seems to be a difference in the services of Protestant churches. On the classical side, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, etc. there is more emphasis on ritual and rational discussion. On the Evangelical side there is more emphasis on music and charismatic preachers. People seem to choose what they are most comfortable with. If Tebow can inspire some people with the Easter message, I see no problem. The church is the appropriate place for that.
ReplyDeleteAt least Sarah's has integrity and doesn't broadcast her churchgoing, something they do engage in.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, he's more than an ATTENTION whore. He's a giant pussy hound.
If Sarah doesn't broadcast it, she doesn't do it. There's nothing to broadcast because there's no churchgoing involved.
DeleteThe Palin family very rarely attends church in Wasilla. It's been noted by many that actually do attend and are REAL christians!
DeleteTimmy works for free on church issues.. Sarah, not so much. Plus there was that chance Jesus would show up and ask, WTF, Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI apologize for this digression, but I was thinking about timelines. Sarah and Todd purchased the plot of land next to their home In July 2009 right? I just remember is was during the summer.
ReplyDelete-Her last day was July 26, 2009.
-She spent part of August presumably writing this much anticipated book.
-Track was home by Oct 2 because he got a ticket that day. Pictures of his homecoming outside the house were (publicly) posted by Sept 27, 2009 showing all the family, fall leaves, no snow, light hoodies, and a giant pile of dirt with work trucks in the background. Alaskans, would this be August or September? My guess is mid Sept.
-Sept 23, 24 Palin in Japan for speech
- To homeowners who live in custom built homes, when are your blueprints drawn up? When would they have to be to break massive ground by August?
My take is, after McCain lost, Palin was approached in secret about her future career. Look at ALL the outside business related stuff she immersed herself in, much of it I stumbled upon accidentally, as it wasn't publicized. MY take is her whole path was ALL orchestrated by some higher influence. Her dreams where given the go ahead and voila, resignation. Isn't that how all influential people gain ground? No man is an island.
Now how much did Todd know? He was with her most trips in the first half of 2009, on top of his own public engagements and even some replacing her presence. I think Todd probably knew about her dreams and the people talking to her. But didn't know how/when she'd resign.
breathe...
DeleteWhat is your point? It doesn't make sense - much like Sarah Palin!

I think you are on to something with this line of thinking...remember Creepy Chuck said..."Baldy doesn't make her own decisions" in a NY Times article. Another thing...during the campaign the McCain camp found out that the Toad was going behind their back and telling donors to "hold their powder" for 2012!
I'm sure it was the NeoCons who brought her greedy ass to the table who were telling her what to do...but since Baldy is INSANE and loves to "go rogue" they couldn't control her crazy ass...here's a link to the Vanity Fair article that Michael Gross did about Baldy that caught him a lot of flack...but it is definitely one of the best articles written about Baldy that shows that Baldy is CRAAZZZY and is unable to LEARN! Oh and I love the title which is of course very familiar!

Here's the opening paragraph....
Sarah Palin: The Sound and the Fury
Even as Sarah Palin’s public voice grows louder, she has become increasingly secretive, walling herself off from old friends and associates, and attempting to enforce silence from those around her. Following the former Alaska governor’s road show, the author delves into the surreal new world Palin now inhabits—a place of fear, anger, and illusion, which has swallowed up the engaging, small-town hockey mom and her family—and the sadness she has left in her wake.
And for Krusty at 1:14PM....STFU...you crazy stalker and call your damn brothers and sisters!
Sarah Palin would not be herself in a Church. She couldn't talk about "LIMP, IMPOTENT, NO COJONES, MAN UP" like she calls PIMP DADDY TOAD at home while THROWING CANNED GOODS AT HIM.
ReplyDeleteone fucking fraud after another and the american people cant wait to make them famous and rich.
ReplyDeletethis guy is the perfect republican.
self absorbed exhibitionist closet case white guy who pretends to be a christian for his personal ambitions.
this guy is jerry falwell in a football uniform.
That's funny, JadeZ. I just wish I could get the image of Jerry Falwell in a football uniform out of my mind. Blech!
DeleteSpot on - football doesn't last forever - getting ready for the next gig
DeleteIf you want to go to church at Easter - why not just go along and sit in the back row - BIG FRAUD
CNN Guest: Today Show Hurt Its Journalistic Brand By Letting Sarah Palin Co-Host

WOW - what a Palin take down!!
DeleteThat's so phony and such a lie… such a FILTHY lie. She's such a hypocrite. She's so inauthentic.
Jiminy Christmas, let the man practice his ridiculous religion. This is America.
ReplyDeleteThe Denver Broncos liked Tebow, but they hated the ¨noise¨ surrounding him. Opposing teams would have a hard time preparing for Manning´s passing and Tebow´s running. Denver wanted to keep Tebow, but they knew the nut cases would start chanting for Tebow after Manning had a bad half. The NFL knows this. The ¨noise¨ hurt Tim. His manager, Jimmy Sexton, had this to say about the ¨noise:¨ ¨It has scared off teams interested in him.¨
The NFL is about winning games. You cannot win a Super Bowl without passing from the pocket, something Tebow needs to learn. The NFL knows the rabid evangelicals know little about football and have other agendas, including religion.
I say let the dumbshits self-destruct.
If Tim doesn't know how to pass in the pocket by now, he never will. He was damned lucky in his lower talented venues (college, high school) to have an excellent line and game built around him. The Jets are going to wish they'd never hired him.
DeletePastor "Joe Champion". Riiiight...
ReplyDeleteI wonder why the guy isn't using his real name? Hiding a past in gay pr0n? Witness protection program? His last name is really "Hussain"? Hmm...
He seems like he believes in what he is doing. Just hope that is not some false god he is dealing with.
ReplyDeleteExpected 30,000, but it was reported that only 15,000 actually came.
ReplyDeleteNow when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
ReplyDeleteAnd when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
Luke 18:22-23
Randall, I'm not real big on scriptures and all that but, after reading your comment above ,it seems to me that Anchorage baptist temple could benefit from same. Like say, they could take the money that they are going to waste on some 230 foot monument to idiocy on their property and give that to the poor. And then they could take the money they spent promoting hatred and bigotry, (prop 5) and give that to the homeless. Oh yeah, some real fine upstanding christians. Tax evading assholes.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous:
DeleteI've actually been to the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA. It took my breath away to see the naked opulence; the waste of so much money.
And in my head all the phrases from the Bible about feeding the hungry, giving to the poor - came to mind.
It nearly brought me to tears.
The multi-million dollar bell tower...
The fabulous fountains and statues...
The Cathedral itself as well as the stainless steel commissary/souvenir shop...
And that's not even to mention the several mansions the Schuller family owns.
All tax-free of course.
Praise Jesus.
1. When the 'Tebowing' becomes the focus instead of the game, it's disruptive and needs to stop or be done in private. If I want to see praying, I'll go to church. If I want to see football, I'll watch the NFL. Enough.
ReplyDelete2. The focus of an Easter service should be the spiritual message, not the genuflecting football player (dressed in weathered jeans, no less...how inappropriate!).
One of the reasons I left the church many years ago was because it became a business, not a way to help the poor and less fortunate. I suspect that Jesus would not approve of the very public exhibitions in the football stadium after every play. If Tebow feels the need to publicly profess his faith and bring others into the flock, he is welcome to join the clergy, but keep it out of my football.
Nice tolerance.
ReplyDeleteThe guy isn't CRASHING THE MASS! They are obviously glad to have him.
But, yeah, the priest just wants to make sure that everybody knows they are ALL there to praise God.
Tebow was spending his childhood summer vacations helping his parents with their charity.
Are you all hoping he falls down, painfully and publicly? So you can be vindicated in your nastiness?
Gee, I hope that works out for you. Tough thing for Tim and all the people he inspires but whatever, right?
Tebow and Jeremy Lin.
ReplyDeleteGood (at times AWESOME) athletes,
Brought to the fore front of the American viewing public,
Exaggerated narratives,
Part of a publicity hurricane that has less to do with either individual,
But Much More to do with the constant consumer-news-info tainment
That we demand.
We demanded the stories,
And the media has agreed to supply them. Somewhere along the line the news
and accuracy portions have suffered greatly.
Tebow and his "praying" should Not even be a story,
Not at this point, anyway.
Just a pathetic attempt by the media to create false outrage.
You don't like it? Tough, that's freedom.
I bet you would find a lot more people that find DRIVING DRUNK from events, like football games, a MUCH bigger concern to society.
Or not.
Keep fighting the good fight of stomping on an American's religious freedom and keeping that beer flowing until those very last minutes when everyone climbs in their cars to drive home.
