So Gryphen, how big is the survey group in which we allegedly lead all these categories?
I CAN believe we lead in teen pregnancy because of the idiocy of teaching only abstinence, or even worse, just not talking about sex with our teens.

What is the entire "nation pool"?

Are you including countries like Nigeria and The Congo?

It doesn't matter whether third world nations are included or not. The FACT that we are #1 in ANY of those categories among first world nations is an abomination.

How sad indeed....I would bet we lead in other high quality areas as well. How about making millionaires out of no talent grifters, or the high morals in our politicians, equality between the races....etc. I chat with people all over the world and we are of late, quite a laughing stock. We are the melting pot of the world, the good, the bad and the ugly.

What is the Ranking of Alaska in TEEN PREGNANCY RATES? Next, Per Capita, how does WASILLA rank?

    1. I don't know Wasilla's rank, but I recently saw a national ranking. Alaska was #1 followed by either Alabama or Mississippi.
The good news today is the teen rate is down to the lowest since 1946.

This is a bit misleading. There are more people in the US than nearly every country listed there. How did they determine this because the US will win just based on that, sheer number of people. I realize China is listed, and still.

    1. Statistics are adjusted to the number of crimes, etc. per population, and then compared(they taught us that in school, remember?). So no,a higher population will not skew the outcome-that is why the adjustment is done. They do it here in the U.S. with statistics every day because of the huge population differences between the States.Without adjusting, one could not compare Alaska versus California for example.

We truly are one sick nation in just about every matter...especially in our government!

So, which of those categories are per-capita, and which are total numbers? The graphic doesn't indicate this, and there does not appear to be a link to its source. :-(

BTW, it is still the case that if I click Preview commenting as my TypePad ID the preview only appears on the screen for 1-2 seconds, and then vanishes. Not helpful!

(I previewed this as Name/URL, changed the mode to TypePad, and then clicked Publish without making any further change to the text—in case anyone cares.)

    1. If Puerto Rico is in the running against the US, then something else is definitely wrong about this piece, since PR is part of the US. Wonder what Snopes has to say?

and we just about stand alone in the number of people who die because they don't have health care, also too, the number of people who lose everything they own because they had the temerity to get sick. You betcha!

Though teen birth rate is decreasing. Of course America is #1. We're the happiest nation and the most free. Let's NOT change one thing or we will end up worse off than Europe.

Yay! Us! indeed. Makes me wonder where our priorities are. We're number one in starting wars and building other nations while we play ostrich on our own turf.
