This map is based on the polls and analysis over at the Huffington Post. If you head on over you can see how they determined these numbers.
And this was BEFORE President Obama came out in support of gay marriage and we learned that Mitt Romney was an evil little asshole in high school. Imagine what the numbers could look like in the next month or so.
Of course there is no part of me that feels like being cocky, or getting my shoes ready for our victory lap.
I am still all too aware that there are millions of dollars ready to spend on negative attack ads against Obama, and tons of Republican dirty tricks to look forward to, but still this does put a little more air in my little blue balloon of hope.
I don't even want to assume a landslide. Too many people will not turn out if they think their vote is covered by the majority. We need to get out there and revive the excitement of 2008. And MAKE it a landslide- make a statement to those angry women, minority, and gay haters.
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel even more positive about our President now than I did then. Come on folks, let's GO FORWARD!
Come on Karl Rove and Koch brothers, your boy Willard is getting his ass kicked. When will the stealing, lying, cheating, and buying of the 2012 election begin for the GOP. Oh I get it, you guys will just wait for your Supreme Court to overturn the results. Or maybe those Diebold voting machines will have an unexpected hiccup. Oh, I get it, all minorities, gays, middle class residents, and Medicare/Medicaid recipients, will be declared illegal immigrants.
ReplyDeleteCome on GOP, what's your plan?
Stop it! Enough of this. We want a fair election, you act like you want them to try and steal.
Delete"Can you say landslide?"
ReplyDeleteOK, Gryphen, you totally baited me and I'll bite ...
Remember, remember, the sixth of November. Democratic LANDSLIDE!!!
Yes, it's too early to start counting chickens (before they've hatched). Polls are pretty much meaningless until after the summer conventions and Mitt chooses his veep (remember McCain in 2008).
ReplyDeleteBut Mitt can't help himself, he's a privileged entitled bully, the exact opposite of Obama, who was on the receiving ending of bullying (because of his race; the book about Obama's mother described one of her friends witnessing such taunting and Ann Dunham's response was "he's used to it.")
Romneybot is INCAPABLE of empathy, and his awkwardness stems from the fact that he has no ability to view the world outside of the 1%.
But really, the focus needs to be on the economic inequity which started in the 1970s and is now taken as a fact of life. The banks are still treating the economy as their own personal casino: "JPMorgan discloses $2 billion in trading losses"
http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2012/05/10/jpmorgan-discloses-significant-losses-in-trading-group/?hp
You know, the more I think about the fact that those responsible for demolishing the economy during the decade before Obama took office have suffered no consquences the more infuriated I get.
DeleteObama needs to go back to "the only thing standing between you and the pitchforks" is me when dealing with Wall Street. Restore sanity to banking operations, bring back Glass-Steagall (which separated banks from the hedge-fund casinos also known as the "investment" side of business).
I don't know what caused Europe's troubles, but our economic problems can be laid squarely on the doorstep of unregulated greed and fraud.
Nobody is counting chickens before they hatch.
DeleteI agree don't start counting chickens. People will not vote because they will assume the President will win. The GOP is counting on voter suppression and low voter turnout so they can steal the election again.
DeleteI truly hope the GOP voter ID laws backfire and and there is a huge Dem turnout. What will they do after they lose in 2012 and their trickery didn't work?
ReplyDeleteI think TX will have a better showing for President Obama than people think. Women are riled up here, too, like all states. Hope.
The thing with Texas is, the Dems there do not vote.
DeleteGET THOSE TEXAS DEMS REGISTERED AND READY TO VOTE. Have registration drives there.
A huge Dem turnout is vital. 2010 like apathy will sink us.
DeleteI must say, I was surprised when the Obama people took on the Clinton machine (and it was a machine), and won. I think Obama is capable of setting traps even Rove wouldn’t recognize.
ReplyDeleteHowever, no premature victory laps… that’s just tempting fate.
I'm with you on this, it was astonishing that our President came out ahead of Hillary. If it had been any one else other than him, they would have been defeated. He is one smart, cool dude. I'm trusting that he will stay at three moves ahead of the vile maneuvers of the Repukes, they bought and sold the Supreme Court in 2000 and stole the vote via Dielbolt in 2004,here in Ohio....what's next for them?
DeleteBut,if he already has the electoral college sewed up and I am pretty darn sure he does, it's looking mighty fine. Paul is going to hurt Romney mightily, he is toast. Lots of hard core party voters just won't be able to vote for him. Luckily, us 99%'ers beat out the 1% in numbers alone in voting power.
Dems, get every Dem you know, registered and ready to vote this fall. WEB NEED to get those voters in. Every vote counts.
ReplyDeleteFor the love of God, do not become complacent based on graphics like this! We need to be vigilant and speak to as many young/marginalized people as we can. I will never willingly go back to the dark days of wanting to emigrate abroad based on our leadership.
ReplyDeleteAll my fall-back countries are in austerity now : (
DeleteEveryone with a camera phone; take a picture of the screen when you vote. Call me crazy but these voting machines are made and maintained by a Rethug company. They have already "malfunctioned" in New York recently and "mis-counted" votes.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
DeleteOh hell yes we are Anon 5:16. The older women in my family, all Republicans, are pretty hot. Hot enough to vote for Obama. My mom is seriously considering it and that is shocking to me. She's conservative, but she's not stupid.
ReplyDeleteNot counting any chickens here, either, we've all got to get out the vote. We work the phones for OFA, and it's been a pretty wild week! Almost everyone we call are pro Obama, usually four out of ten need information, but we've got to keep our eyes on the prize.
ReplyDeleteCareful- if all the toss-up states go to Romney, then he wins.
ReplyDeleteLet's not ever be complacent! Remember 2000.
Premature victory laps, oh yes they're so very lovely and fun.
ReplyDeleteFor my part, I'll be damned if I'm going around stamping out endless brushfires of NewGOP lies and invective... particularly since there is sure to be a set of doozies for election eve. For me, it's one talking point and one talking point only--and they introduced it themselves:
Gasoline was $1.80 a gallon when Obama took office.
If there is a more stark or direct illustration of the state of the world economy at that point I don't know it. If folks are too fool to understand that, then it's irremediably lost anyway. Too much information yields confusion only, and endlessly tossing spaghetti against the wall is cheap and easy, you're dancing to their tune to clean it up (the old "I just want to hear the bastard deny it!" strategy) and best remember Keep It Simple and It's The Economy Stupid.
Where was gas only $1.80 when Obama took office?
DeleteI distinctly remember Bush being questioned about the fact that gas was over $3.00 and what did he have to say about the fact that it was heading for $4.00. (Which of course he answered with his usual clueless smirk, that he hadn't heard anything about that).
