Obama’s Osama bin Laden Ad Is a Well-Played Attack

The president’s new ad trumpeting bin Laden’s killing may well politicize national security, as the GOP complains. But Obama’s just taking a page from a playbook the Republicans have trusted since 2001.

The image of the president who got Osama, engulfed by cheering soldiers in the country where the terrorist plotted the 9/11 attacks, is a statement in and of itself.

    ...
The contretemps began with an Obama Web ad, narrated by Bill Clinton, not only praised the president’s decision to order the raid on the Pakistani compound where bin Laden was believed to be hiding but suggested that Romney might not have made the same call. Outraged surrogates and other Republicans cried foul, and Romney himself claimed that “even Jimmy Carter” would have given the order to capture or kill Osama.

There were three problems with the GOP counterassault.

First, both Joe Biden and Robert Gates, then the Pentagon chief, opposed the Osama raid based on limited intelligence—making clear it was no slam-dunk.

Second, Romney was on record as having said of bin Laden back in 2007: “It’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.”

Finally, the longer the tit-for-tat went on, the more the campaign’s focus remained on the president’s singular foreign-policy achievement.

Romney seemed to recognize as much, toning down his language in a CBS interview Tuesday morning and saying that Obama deserves credit for the fateful decision.

  5. first of all its a very effective ad cause it reminds the people that bush couldnt get the man he claimed responsible for 9-11 but obama could.

so naturally the right wing media seeks to undermine it.

but the idea that anyone cares a rats ass that obama is politicizing it is pure fantasy because all events are political and the repigs are constantly criticizing obama and his foreign policy.

this is not only a winning issue for obama but he should do more ads of the same type.

As Jon Stewart pointed out, the only reason Republicans are pissed about the ad is because THEY didn't get to run it. The faux outrage is ridiculous.

Marco Rubio's Speech Proves Obama Has the GOP Beat on Foreign Policy

...Obama’s foreign policy has paralyzed the GOP by laying bare just how much Republicans collectively refuse to fully commit to one grand, unifying possibility in international affairs — including the possibility of stepping away from sweeping principles and playing it by ear for a while. Republicans’ spasmodic flurry of attacks, complaints, and self-pitying diatribes is so intense that they have succeeded in shuddering themselves into a state of frozen paralysis. Call it the political equivalent of encephalitis lethargica.

The worst of it for the GOP will come when they realize that the possibilities Obama has created actually call into question whether Republicans can ever again restore committed unity to their foreign policy within the framework of their party.

  9. I love the Obama Diary. It has a very touching story on it now. Also, pix from his Afghanistan visit. The military personnel look so young! But, they are obviously thrilled to meet the president by the looks on their faces and they crowd around him. He makes me proud.

Still slobbering over your pres who has just made sure your Afghanistan war is going to continue until 2024?

Then if you are you must have come to the realization that it's all necessary to preserve US oil interests in the ME and keep the oil flowing in your direction. I mean, eventually all the phony dreamed up reasons won't do anymore.
    luv from Canada.

Still stupid? Didn't know Canada is part of NATO and Canadian soldiers are also fighting in Afghanistan? Do you think Canadians depend only on its own oil? If you think that, you are wrong:

I don't believe you're from Canada, and you can take your "luv" and shove it.

Haven't you read about our glut? We are lousy with crude oil with no place to refine them. Our thirsty market with such fungible commodities where the scientists flag the molecule to feed our planes, trains and automobiles seem to have no market.

Be prepared for a fight, because we are not drinking your kool-aid. Its on bitches, and President Obama's ad is just the beginning in 2012. Your puppet Willard, is going to get his ass kicked.

Obama’s winning strategy on foreign policy

For the first time since the early 1960s, the Republican Party enters a presidential campaign at a decided disadvantage on foreign policy. Republicans find it hard to get accustomed to the fact that when they pull their favorite political levers — accusations that Democrats are “weak” or Romney’s persistent and false claims that Obama “apologizes” for America — nothing happens.

I love Jon Stewart's mannerisms, he's even funny with the sound off. Yeah, the Republicans have a frontal cortex problem, especially the white haired bloated chipmonk himself, John McCain. But this is just the beginning of the Party of No's problems.
