Obama campaign introduces interactive tool "The Life of Julia." Republicans immediately attack it, so obviously it must be effective.

One of my tools for measuring the effectiveness of a decision made by the Obama campaign or the White House is how quickly and aggressively it is attacked by the GOP.

In this case the Republicans wasted virtually NO time.

Courtesy of the LA Times:

Republicans quickly took to social media to mock the promotional tool, using the hashtag #julia to turn the ad into a joke, drawing comparisons between the Julia of the campaign and the Julia featured in the dystopian novel “1984.” They describe Julia's life as one in which Obama's policies lead to Social Security’s insolvency and cause her economic suffering. "

#Julia the 23 year old is living with her parents in the Obama economy," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said.

Can I just say how incredibly humorous I find it that the GOP attacks this tool based on the NAME of the character, simply because it is similar to a character in the book "1984?" Especially considering that it appeared the entire purpose of the Bush administration was too rapidly bring "Big Brother" into our lives as quickly as humanly possible?

Personally I found the tool to be quite effective.

Let me know what you think.

Don't be too quick to judge the GOP, I'm sure any minute now they'll reveal detailed information about how Julia would be better served by THEIR policies.

ROFL Of course I'm joking. They won't do anything but mock Obama's policies and counter with shallow jingoistic platitudes that are counter to historical precedent and backed up with nothing.

They are scared, and since they are the ones that have no record to run on, they are projecting that onto the President, who has a fine record of accomplishments despite the dsepicable behavior of the right and the media. Go Obama! Four more years, and a progressive Congress!

That's all they have is to find a non issue and gnaw on it like a dog with a bone, instead of dealing with the facts.

    Obama 'Gimmick' Successfully Trolls Republicans

The Obama administration successfully trolled the RNC, and they had to spend part of their day using their social media platforms giving their opponents their due. In the world of high-information, high-octane partisans, this is no big deal -- all over Twitter today, such people gave worthy snark. For the fence-sitters, however, who knows? Maybe they found "The Life Of Julia" convincing.

Obama Campaign Crushes Romney with War on Women Ad

...Mitt Romney is pallin’ around with transvaginal ultrasound pushers.

The Republicans are making this sooo easy. Mitt Romney’s top surrogate in Pennsylvania is the man who told women to “just close your eyes” during a transvaginal ultrasound. You want some painful, small government up your vagina and in your doctor’s office? Vote Romney!

Mitt Romney shares a lot of Governor Tom Corbett’s “ideas” about women’s rights and today, Romney is “proud” of Corbett’s endorsement.

    Just close your eyes.

The Obama campaign came out shouting on this issue tonight. All they had to do was put Romney’s quote of being so proud of Corbett’s endorsement next to a quote of Corbett’s and they were done. That’s it. That’s the ad (see above).

No need to lie, no need for fancy spin. They reminded voters, “President Obama, however, said of the GOP’s assault on women’s rights: ‘When it comes to what’s going on out there, you’re not going to close your eyes. Women across America aren’t closing their eyes. As long as I’m President, I won’t either.’”

Those aren’t just words, because this President has done more for women’s rights than any president in modern history, starting with his first few days in office, signing the Lily Ledbetter Act. Obama chose Joe Biden as his VP, and Joe has a strong history defending women’s rights and advocating for bills that protect women from domestic violence. Obama chose Hillary Clinton as his SOS, and she takes her advocacy for women’s rights and freedom around the world as she represents the United States.

They have a Council on Women and Girls, so that all federal agencies take into account women’s issues on policies and legislation. “Within months of taking office, President Obama created the White House Council on Women and Girls with the explicit mandate to ensure that every agency, department, and office in our federal government – with the policies they draft, the programs they create, and the legislation they support – takes into account the needs and aspirations of American women and girls. Over the past three years, the Obama Administration has worked tirelessly to promote equality; enhance women’s economic security; and ensure that women have the opportunities they need and deserve at every stage of their lives, from obtaining training and education, to succeeding in the workforce and supporting their families, to retiring with dignity and security.”

This administration is an historically pro-women’s rights administration, and that ain’t just talk. It’s in the policy.

They have nothing else, that's the only explanation. All they can do is whine, piss, and moan. As many have said, President Obama could cure cancer, make all of us millionaires, and send every child to college and they'd STILL bitch about him. If he were white, he could act as stupid as Bush all day and you'd hear crickets.

    1. Actually, not true. They hounded Bill Clinton incessantly for eight years, spending 100s of million of dollars investigating, and all they came up with was him lying about a blow job....for which they spend millions more trying to get a guilty verdict on the impeachment.
Not condoning Clinton's behavior. Just pointing out that they hate ALL Democrats, but the fact that President Obama is black just blows their hatred out of proportion to anything else.

Sara, You are absolutely right. In fact I thought the same thing. Republicans do not want to see the country move forward - at least not when a member of the opposition party is in the White House. And I personally find that to be treasonous behavior.

War over #Julia: Has Obama campaign set a trap for Republicans?

The Obama campaign's 'Life of Julia' Web infographic shows how government helps women from cradle to grave. Republicans have pounced on it as 'nanny state' excess. But the #Julia Internet meme has taken off.

Republicans Redefine 'Julia' in Their Image

...But the Republican response has been largely reactionary, and it’s brought women’s issues back in the spotlight in a week when the Romney campaign just wanted to talk about the economy. This marks the second shift this week to issues on which Obama holds more ground – on Monday, the president had the nation talking about the successful killing of Osama bin Laden with a speech from Afghanistan, and today, even with dismal jobs numbers out, Julia will likely continue to color the debate.

Even as Republicans mock Julia on Twitter, they’re sending more people to the Obama campaign’s website, and this is one battle where Obama clearly leads, as a mid-April nationwide poll gives him 49 percent support with female voters over Romney’s 39 percent.

The Washington Examiner's Phillip Klein writes that the Julia meme indicates Obama is winning, with the Romney campaign "taking the bait" and merely parrying Obama's moves.

The GOP is running scared. They know that Willard is a chump. He has no position on anything, until Karl Rove gives it to him. Sounds familiar (Bush).

Of Course! A factual campaign ad is "patronizing" yet not knowing what the Lily Ledbetter Act is about, denial of funding for women's heath, and transvaginal probes aren't "patronizing"?

Durn Julia, should have married up better (I'm kidding, yet not kidding about:)
    Ann Romney's $1,000 t-shirt:

    http://www.bagnewsnotes.com/2012/05/romney-watch-whats-in-a-t-shirt/

I found it via CrooksandLiars.com daily roundup.

She can wear $1,000 t-shirts, that's her choice, yet it says again how clueless and out of touch she is compared to the vast majority of us. The rest of us who have to buy clothes on sale, using coupons, saving up to buy clothing, thinking of how many years clothing might last (buying not what's trendy, yet what will wear well for several years or, knock on wood, hopefully much longer).

Anyway, thank you Romneys, for pointing out again, you really aren't like the vast majority of us.

    1. Beaglemom has it, in a nutshell.

The GOP has nothing to offer women but the back of its hand. Julia matter-of-factly gets her education, uses contraception, undergoes surgery without bankrupting her family, eventually chooses to have a child (no mention of The Man, which undoubtedly really chaffs the GOP), maintains a career, etc. All good things!

This is what the Democrats need to do:

    state the facts.

I don't know WHY Democrats waffle around and constantly RE-act from the defensive position...

when all they have to do is STATE THE FACTS.

And as the Republicans get snottier and snottier about "Julia"...
the more women will quietly walk over to the Democratic side of the aisle.

I think it's perfect! The morning joe crew were waving their hands in the air, undies in knots They felt it misrepresents Obama's accomplishments, but here's the weird thing.

After the break, they showed a graph of the gap Romney has vs Obama with the Female Voters, Romney barely hit thirty and Obama was over sixty percent.

Did they forget the segment before that? Joe dismissed the graph, as if the numbers didn't mean anything.

They showed the cold endorsement from Santtorum, then showed Michelle Bachmann all enthusiastic about Romney - it was like poultry in motion!

The GOP is going to get wicked early, and Obama will turn it to his advantage.
