Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey
I'll never get these tea people. They rant on about how they don't need big government anything as they think they're doing it all or capable of doing it all.
Er, they think everyone else should pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, yet not realizing how little they do it for themselves, in all ways, all of the time, etc.
They need big government everything just as much as everyone else.
You called it Paul, as long as I got mine, I don't have to wonder about the programs and playing field that allowed me to do alright or even prosper. Anyone jealous are just haters.
It's so dry here, and so many other places in the southwest, it is scary to think you are one spark away from having a home to not having a home, or worse a life. It takes just a little spark to cause so much damage!
Yes! I'm in Colorado Springs, and even as the fire was going totally out of control Tuesday, we were hearing about people tossing cigarette butts out of windows and even setting off firecrackers. That level of stupidity is criminal, I think!
It's like Sarah Palin, the "iconic mother of a special needs child" mocking fruit fly research. Nevermind that such studies lead to advances in understanding autism spectrum disorders, as recently, human neurexins have been identified as a genetic risk factor for autism.
It's like Bobby Jindal, Governor of Lousiana criticising volcanic monitoring when it's along the same lines of hurricane monitoring, something his coastline desperately needs.
It's like Romney instituting and leading the healthcare reform that is desperately needed (thanks Sarah) and then telling the world that it's wrong when Obama does it.
Whatever. We all know what Mitt, Sarah, Bobby, Rush, Mitch and Boehner stand for when they say they don't like where this country is going and they want to take it back.
Amen. With the global warming deniers in place, and more and m ore droughts and fires (due to God's vengeance on the right, evidently!) we need trained firefighters more than ever before. Or we could just let these states burn to the ground..God's will, and all. And, also too, you don't want people dependent on the federal government now, do you?
And in our town of approx. 16,000 residents in northwest lower Michigan the local government is all about doing in the unionized city fire department and merging it with the county volunteer fire departments in the rural areas around us. Already the fire insurance companies have lowered our ratings and raised our insurance bills due to previous cutbacks in the city fire department. Most of the buildings and virtually all of the houses are wooden structures but, hey, the city does not want to pay into pensions for the retired firemen and does not want to pay for people to sit around the two fire stations that we have waiting for disaster to befall someone. Of course, most people want the city fire department to remain intact so the city fathers are busy looking for ways to end run the need for a referendum on the issue. Oh these teabaggers! And, I haven't mentioned yet that yesterday we were in a high fire danger alert because of high temperatures and wind and dry conditions since early this month. This time of year I always worry about the state and country parks in the area where people always want to have camp fires, not to mention the teenagers who love a good bonfire by the beach.
I live above the bridge, wooded area, and our weather conditions yesterday were similar. We've been on very high fire danger for weeks. And the visiting idiots next door just had to have a campfire. We have wonderful volunteer fire and ambulance people, but they'd be no match for a disaster. We need a larger rescue force to fall back on, and that force comes from the government.
Gryphen, your relentless attacks on Millard "Mittens" Rmoney are getting old. How about looking at some facts before you criticize someone you dont even know personally?
Here are the 5 reasons that Mittens Rmoney deserves to be elected president of the United States.
1) Rmoney isnt wishy-washy like this Obama fella. When Mittens does something, he does it 100%. For example, he is 100% white, while Obama is just barely 50% white. This may not mean much to you, but in certain parts of this country where a man isnt afraid to share physical affection with his sister or cousins, it is VERY important.
2) Rmoney has the best chance of repealing Obamacare because... um... well, because he created Obamacare. Who is better suited to tear something down than the guy who initially promoted it? No More Death Panels!! Huzzah!!
3) Rmoney has promised that every Amercian who dies without health care in the country will be baptized into the Mormon church at ZERO cost to the deceased or their families. They'll handle all the paperwork, say all the gibberish prayifying and protect your loved one's soul for eternity. Isnt THAT better than icky cancer treatment? Hooray!!!
4) Rmoney's unprecendented ability to deftly support every side of every argument - abortion rights, gay rights, health care, etc - gives him the best chance of making the right decision because he supports AND opposes EVERYTHING!!! Let's see Obama try THAT!!!
5) Rmoney's sense of humor makes him the kind of guy you wanna kick back and chug a bottle or two of Dom with (if he's paying). I literally can't stop laughing at his pranks and tomfoolery. The terrified dog tied up on the Rmoney Family Truckster? COMEDY GOLD! The time Mittens - as a very clever youngster - guided a blind teacher into a glass wall? HIGH-LARIOUS!! The list goes on and on. I could sit and listen joyfully for hours to him tell story after story illustrating what a complete douchebag wealthy asshole he is!
Remember, in 2012, to reduce congestion at the local polling stations all states have implemented 'split voting days'. Voters supporting President Obama will vote on Tuesday, November 6th and all voters supporting Mittens Rmoney will vote on Wednesday, November 7th.
November 7th, Vote Mittens Rmoney! Do it for Amercia!
Lifetime Buries Its Bristol Palin Bomb Out Back and Hopes We Don’t Notice
Lifetime has quietly announced that after getting a taste of how much America can’t stand the Palins, they are taking the first steps towards ridding themselves of Bristol Palin’s reality show bomb.
After a horrible debut where Bristol Palin’s much publicized reality show lost near 1.1 million viewers off of its Dance Moms lead in, Life’s a Tripp managed to lose an additional 140,000 viewers. On week one the Palins conned 726,000 Americans into watching their propaganda disguised as reality television, but that number sank to 586,000 for the first half hour of week two. Notice I said the first half hour, because at 10:30 PM, the show lost another 160,000 viewers and fell to 426,000. By the end of episode two the show was down 300,000 viewers from episode one.
Just how bad are the ratings? Consider that Dance Moms did 2.125 million viewers at 9 PM. Bristol Palin came on the air at 10 PM and over 75% of that audience changed the channel. Lifetime has obviously seen enough, but because they were dumb enough to a) Spend lots of money promoting a show starring America’s most despised family since the Mansons, and b) Give the Palin family a season commitment and a paycheck — they are stuck with this show.
Lifetime’s solution to the Bristol bomb that is wrecking their Tuesday nights is to get out of prime time. Effective immediately, Life’s A Tripp has been banished to 11 PM. If the show continues to hurt the network, look for either a quick burn off of episodes disguised as a marathon, or a move to an even more remote time slot.
There are numerous reasons why Bristol Palin’s reality show failed, but the biggest one is that the show is awful. I mean really, really awful. Like bad mockumentary awful. It may be most unwatchable 60 minutes on television. Somebody at Lifetime was fooled into thinking that Bristol Palin’s Dancing With The Stars appearance meant that she was popular. What they might not have known was that Palinbots rigged the vote for Bristol because they thought that it would help resurrect their Joan of Noah’s Ark, Sarah Palin, back from the political dead.
Lifetime got suckered, and like every other individual or organization that has either paid or voted for a Palin, they are now left holding the bag. It looks like the grifting gravy train may finally be coming to an end. Sarah PAC can’t raise money, Mama Grizzle has been reduced to giving speeches for free, and Bristol Palin got the boot off prime time after just two episodes.
Sarah and her crew need to realize that America has been trying to break up with her for almost four years. It is over. We don’t want to see you anymore. Here is your stuff back. Go live your life and please stop calling us, or we will get a restraining order.
Thanks to inaction by Congress, none of these brave Forest Service firefighters have health insurance or other benefits, as they are seasonal employees.
I am always amazed how members of legislatures, both state and national, can wallow in their own benefits and fight to deny them to anyone else. Those four health care reform deniers on the Supreme Court are just as bad. I did not notice that they forfeited their lifetime benefits before trying to do in the ACA. Beaglemom
Beaglemom, exactly my thoughts, except you expressed them more aptly.
Yes, let the elected & appointed officials first give up their own benefits.
Then let the other vitriolic crusaders (Paylump, Limpbaugh, Beckee, etc.) decline any benefits and services they do or have received from the government.
C'mon guys, put yer money where yer mouth is.
Once you anti-President Obama buffoons do that, then maybe you'll have a sliver of credibility. Just maybe, though I doubt it.
I noticed her lips were weird but don't know anything about what kind things they can do to them. I saw her last night and it looked like she didn't have eyebrows anymore as they looked drawn on with orange liner. The contrast between her hair and her eyebrows was freakish. Her whole face had that "plastic just had a bunch of work done" look. She is a ridiculous mean witch.
The reason for her very slow blinking, I do believe, are the fuzzy caterpillars glued to her upper lids. Every time she opens her eyes, it's like the lids are doing crunches.
Sarah Palin Crawls Out from Under Her Rock to Spread More ACA Manure
Poor Sarah. She’s such a trooper as an attack dog. She’s never bothered by cognitive dissonance and she’s blessed to be spared acknowledging the reality that her talking points on Healthcare Reform were awarded the Lie of the Year award in 2009.
It is with deep regret that I come to my conclusion on this matter, and that is that I believe it’s fair to say that the majority of Republicans either cannot read or suffer from a contagious comprehension problem made epidemic due to the epistemic closure of their soured tea bubble. Thus, Sarah Palin has become the Affordable Care Act’s official Clown of the Decade. And no, sadly, I don’t think it’s premature to call it for the decade.
In order to clear this matter up in a manner that even Ms. Palin can understand, I will borrow from DNC Executive Director Patrick Gaspard, who tweeted succinctly, “it’s constitutional. Bitches.”
Palin may want to write that on her hand. It might come in handy one day.
saw her on fox last night and the other entertainer were laughing in there bellies at her,i dont know why they keep stupid employed,u cn tell the smart guy knows a joke, and he knows thats sarah, she look so excited parroting news bites
Yeah, remember GWBush looking out a jet window, then saying he couldn't land because his entourage would gummy things up, and besides, Brownie's on it, doing a great job!
President Obama did the right thing, and there are still some asshats saying it's "too little, too late", "he should be doing his job creating jobs and governing and stuff!", but thankfully, most of the footage I've seen, along with his speech, showed a man who truly cares and has boots on the ground and government planes assisting the firefighters, many of whom don't have health care coverage.
Funny how people complain about "big government", yet have no qualms accepting help when disaster strikes.
I can't imagine those poor homeowners losing everything and having to start over from scratch.
Romney's completely out of touch, and clueless. Can't wait for the debates.
"I can't imagine those poor homeowners losing everything and having to start over from scratch."
That's why smart homeowners like the Rmoney's plan ahead and always have at least two mansions. Is it the Rmoney's fault the 'poor homeowners' you cry about didn't buy a backup mansion? Of course not. Remember, Mittens Rmoney is a self-made millionaire who pulled himself by his bootstraps. Lucky for him those bootstraps were attached to boots he inherited from his wealthy father, but still....
The Rmoneys know that paper money burns but gold melts. That's why all they have at their mansions is precious metals and diamonds. In their safes.
The ocean also supplies plenty of water for the private firefighters. After things cool off the safe can be opened and the diamonds are perfectly good. The gold bars just need to be assayed and remelted.
The accountants can deduct all the old clothes and worn out furniture as a total loss.
The cleanup crew can be fired as soon as they have done most of the hard work. Mitt loved to do this part himself! Mitt's fellow Mormons will volunteer to do the rest of the easy stuff for free. Just like they volunteer to clean the temples each week.
If you look at the aerial photos of the Colo. springs subdivisions, many of those are not poor homeowners. They are very wealthy McMansion owners who will be fully compensated by their insurance carriers, even though they built in high risk areas and built "indefensible" structures.
What about the 11,000 homeless in Denver?--that 11,000 number hasn't changed in 5 years.
Its tragic when anyone looses a home, but perhaps our sympathies can be re-awakened by this tragedy for those who lost their homes to greed and thievery from the banks, who have no insurance to fall back on, no condos to retreat to.
Anon 10:54 p.m., thanks for saying what I've been thinking. No, those are not poor subdivisions.
The even wealthier Cedar Heights area, to the south, was evacuated for days but didn't burn because the houses are further apart and they had spent five years cleaning out brush and taking other fire precautions. That's great, except the subdivision received a FEDERAL GRANT to help them do it--and these are very wealthy people who did not need federal assistance for anything.
I live in Boulder and if it wasn't for the brave, highly skilled, quick responding, large numbered fire fighters, I probably wouldn't have a home today.
Yes, we do love the firefighters! On the news tonight here in Co Springs, there was a story about how people are lining the streets near the tents where the firefighters are staying. There are banners on fences thanking them for their service, and people stand at the curbs with more signs whenever the shifts change.
And President Obama rocks. I thought his comments were very appropriate and graceful. On our local FOX NEWS AFFILIATE, they showed interviews with evacuees who were giddy with excitement from meeting POTUS.
Oh, and in re: to the Congressmen, last election I didn't live here. This time, I will proudly vote for whomever is opposing Lamborn. Maybe the fires have helped people here see the desperate need for available federal assistance...not if Focus on the Family has anything to say about it, but we can always hope.
"Thanks to inaction by Congress, none of these brave Forest Service firefighters have health insurance or other benefits, as they are seasonal employees."
It's a damn shame, isn't it? And knowing the palins make millions for nothing just rubs salt into the wound. Stay safe.
Gryph, read your blog every day an appreciate it. Could you try to use the word "firefighters" instead of "firemen?" A small thing, but not unimportant. Our thoughts are with Colorado and the brave men and women fighting these fires.
While I personally feel for the people of Colorado. It is too bad for that the majority of their voters placed GOP members in congress that fought the expansion of those firefighting funds. I hope every democrat in Colorado reminds their displaced GOP neighbors and friends who wanted MORE help for them. While I realize some may say this is not the time to discuss politics, I have to disagree THIS is exactly the time to be discussing that issue.I hope the IMers from CO are save and sound.
Believe me, I have been telling this to my GOP family members here in Colorado Springs for the past four years (ever since Sarah Palin single-handedly removed the blinders from my eyes and convinced me to become a Democrat). The problem is that "there are none so blind as those who refuse to see." They've slammed their minds shut, installed triple bolts and Yale locks, and thrown the keys far into the abyss of their Rush-fueled ignorance.
This is an example of my parents' logic: I tell them about the *objective and neutral* Pew study that found that conservatives get more positive media coverage than liberals, ergo "the liberal media" is a myth. The response? "Well, obviously that study was done by liberals pretending to be neutral, because otherwise their findings would have shown the media's liberal bias."
The mayor of Colorado Springs is asking for federal aid. This is the town who lowered taxes and reduced services in 2010.
Rep. Doug Lamborn traveled to Colorado with the President on AF1 - this is the only member of Congress who purposefully skipped the State of the Union address because he didn’t agree with President Obama’s policies - but good to have a photo op in AF1.
I am continually amazed that the President even speaks to these people - let alone helps them.
This is definitely the time to discuss such issues - ram it down their throats - those who don't want/need - the govermint.
More firemen? More policemen? I guess in Romney's world there are no female firefighters or female police officers. To me, Mitt's use of those antiquated terms shows just how out of touch that guy really is. Welcome to the 21st century Mr. Romney - where a girl can grow up and be anything she wants to be...
In Mo-Mo land females are supposed to be broodmares and stay home to pump out more Mo-Mos (more tithing). RMoney is scared to death of any female not his mom or wife. Most Mormon men are and they are especially scared of gentile (non mormon) females. Now you know why he is more wooden than flesh, over half the world's population scares the shit out of him.
I have really close friends in Livermore, CO. that were evacuated in the High Park fire - 6 days. They were able to return home on Thursday and this is what Linda posted. Read it. We don't need any more firefighters - really?
An update through tears, we had to load up this afternoon, we were simply underfoot at our friends house, they had renovations planned and we were just in the way (although they wouldnt have said as much if I were to rip their fingernails out one by one!). We loaded the last suitcase and Mike got a call, WE GOT TO COME HOME!!!!! It smells horrible up here, like the hinkiest burnt socks ever and all the food in 2 fridges and 2 freezers had rotted! Someone back east said I wasnt even appreciative that my house hadnt burned, asshole! But tell ya'll something, standing on our front deck and looking at roads that were actually driveways that now lead to a pile of ash is a hard thing to see, I guess its gonna really kick my mind tomorrow, although this fire is far from over I cant help but feel survivors guilt! I drove in to our development, (all 30 or so houses in I dont know how many acres) and was stopped by cops so they could check my I.D. the deputy that checked it said "thank you so much for evacuating - we really do appreciate it!" I just lost it! I said "Thank ME? no THANK YOU!" I couldnt hold back the tears and neither could he! Another officer came over and took my shoulders, he said "We know this is rough but the fire crews are going to switch shifts around 6P.M. please dont worry when you see them and Welcome Home!" Shit, what awesome people! So here we are, Im NOT going to unpack but I just took about 15 bags of rotten food down to the dumpsters, the disgusting thing is over two weeks ago when this catastrophe first started we had a party, forgot that peeps brought shrimp and crab meat that has been festering for 17 days in over 100 degree heat! Holy Cow! I took that nasty crap down by myself, I say that gives me 6 months of not having to do a thing! It literally took 3 soaps and rinses to get the stink off but we are being threatened by homeless bears! Opened one freezer drawer (keep in mind I am a vegetarian) and the bottom was flooded by no less than an inch of watery blood! Want to post photos of our return but not sure how long it will last and find it incredibly distasteful for those who have lost their homes. Just a visual for themind, there are rows upon rows of fire lines that the hot shot crews dug to stop the flames from advancing, there are driveways that are leading to piles of white ash where several nieghbors houses once stood! Man, how we were spared is a question that will haunt me forever! Although, like I said - still am not unpacking cause just from the smelll Nthe air and reports from our neighbors who have the insie scoop we arent out of the woods yet (poor choice of words yet so appropriate!) THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WELL WISHES AND PRAYERS!
Thanks for posting this. I know people who didn't lose their homes are indeed dealing with survivor's guilt. And WTF--you come back to devastation and some creep scolds you for not being flowers and rainbows because your home didn't burn but your neighbors' did?!
My dumb sis is a teabot,She bought a house on a flood plane in jax,fl. her house just got flooded by trop. storm debbie. She had no flood ins. wonder if she wants a bailout from the govt.?
this fire started 2 miles from my home. I am so fortunate to only have been evacuated for 20 hours and to have not lost anything other than my peace of mind. Many of my fellow citizens have lost everything and/or have been evacuated from their homes for a week now. Thank you Mr. President for coming to share our grief and offer your comfort. You are truly a good and compassionate man.

DeleteSarah Palin Crawls Out from Under Her Rock to Spread More ACA Manure
ReplyDeletePoor Sarah.
It might come in handy one day.
http://www.politicususa.com/sarah-palin-affordable-care-act-clown-decade.html
saw her on fox last night and the other entertainer were laughing in there bellies at her,i dont know why they keep stupid employed,u cn tell the smart guy knows a joke, and he knows thats sarah, she look so excited parroting news bites
DeleteYeah, remember GWBush looking out a jet window, then saying he couldn't land because his entourage would gummy things up, and besides, Brownie's on it, doing a great job!
ReplyDeletePresident Obama did the right thing, and there are still some asshats saying it's "too little, too late", "he should be doing his job creating jobs and governing and stuff!", but thankfully, most of the footage I've seen, along with his speech, showed a man who truly cares and has boots on the ground and government planes assisting the firefighters, many of whom don't have health care coverage.
DeleteThat's why smart homeowners like the Rmoney's plan ahead and always have at least two mansions.
DeleteThe ocean also supplies plenty of water for the private firefighters.
DeleteWhat about the 11,000 homeless in Denver?--that 11,000 number hasn't changed in 5 years.
Its tragic when anyone looses a home, but perhaps our sympathies can be re-awakened by this tragedy for those who lost their homes to greed and thievery from the banks, who have no insurance to fall back on, no condos to retreat to.
Rmoney can't be bothered with only two mansions. He has five in NH alone, all in his wive's names.
DeleteAnon 10:54 p.m., thanks for saying what I've been thinking. No, those are not poor subdivisions.
DeleteThe even wealthier Cedar Heights area, to the south, was evacuated for days but didn't burn because the houses are further apart and they had spent five years cleaning out brush and taking other fire precautions.
ReplyDeleteColorado loves fire fighters!
Unfortunately the congressmen the CO voters put into office don't.
DeleteYes, we do love the firefighters! On the news tonight here in Co Springs, there was a story about how people are lining the streets near the tents where the firefighters are staying. There are banners on fences thanking them for their service, and people stand at the curbs with more signs whenever the shifts change.
DeleteAnd President Obama rocks.
DeleteTo COalmost Native: (wouldn't let me reply)
ReplyDelete"Thanks to inaction by Congress, none of these brave Forest Service firefighters have health insurance or other benefits, as they are seasonal employees."
ReplyDeleteWhile I personally feel for the people of Colorado.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, I have been telling this to my GOP family members here in Colorado Springs for the past four years (ever since Sarah Palin single-handedly removed the blinders from my eyes and convinced me to become a Democrat). The problem is that "there are none so blind as those who refuse to see." They've slammed their minds shut, installed triple bolts and Yale locks, and thrown the keys far into the abyss of their Rush-fueled ignorance.
DeleteThis is an example of my parents' logic: I tell them about the *objective and neutral* Pew study that found that conservatives get more positive media coverage than liberals, ergo "the liberal media" is a myth. The response? "Well, obviously that study was done by liberals pretending to be neutral, because otherwise their findings would have shown the media's liberal bias."
You can't win.
The mayor of Colorado Springs is asking for federal aid. This is the town who lowered taxes and reduced services in 2010.
DeleteRep.
ReplyDeleteIn Mo-Mo land females are supposed to be broodmares and stay home to pump out more Mo-Mos (more tithing). RMoney is scared to death of any female not his mom or wife. Most Mormon men are and they are especially scared of gentile (non mormon) females. Now you know why he is more wooden than flesh, over half the world's population scares the shit out of him.
DeleteI have really close friends in Livermore, CO. that were evacuated in the High Park fire - 6 days. They were able to return home on Thursday and this is what Linda posted. Read it. We don't need any more firefighters - really?
ReplyDeleteAn update through tears, we had to load up this afternoon, we were simply underfoot at our friends house, they had renovations planned and we were just in the way (although they wouldnt have said as much if I were to rip their fingernails out one by one!).
DeleteMy dumb sis is a teabot,She bought a house on a flood plane in jax,fl. her house just got flooded by trop. storm debbie. She had no flood ins. wonder if she wants a bailout from the govt.?
ReplyDeleteSure she will, it's okay for her to have a bail out but no one else. Typical Teabagger.

ReplyDeleteA national disgrace...
this fire started 2 miles from my home.
