People are beginning to take notice of the fact that the Republicans are destroying the economy to stop President Obama's reelection.

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one term president."
Courtesy of The Guardian:

Why has job creation in America slowed to a crawl? Why, after several months of economic hope, are things suddenly turning sour? The culprits might seem obvious – uncertainty in Europe, an uneven economic recovery, fiscal and monetary policymakers immobilized and incapable of acting. But increasingly, Democrats are making the argument that the real culprit for the country's economic woes lies in a more discrete location: with the Republican Party.

In recent days, Democrats have started coming out and saying publicly what many have been mumbling privately for years – Republicans are so intent on defeating President Obama for re-election that they are purposely sabotaging the country's economic recovery. These charges are now being levied by Democrats such as Senate majority leader Harry Reid and Obama's key political adviser, David Axelrod. For Democrats, perhaps the most obvious piece of evidence of GOP premeditated malice is the 2010 quote from Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell:

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

Such words lead some to the conclusion that Republicans will do anything, including short-circuiting the economy, in order to hurt Obama politically. Considering that presidents – and rarely opposition parties – are held electorally responsible for economic calamity, it's not a bad political strategy.

As Paul Krugman wrote earlier this week, in the New York Times, while a Democrat rests his head each night in the White House, the United States is currently operating with a Republican economy. After winning the House of Representatives in 2010, the GOP brokered a deal to keep the Bush tax cuts in place, which has reduced the tax burden as a percentage of GDP to its lowest point since Harry Truman sat in the White House. At the insistence of the White House, Congress also agreed to extend unemployment benefits and enact a payroll tax cut – measures that provided a small but important stimulus to the economy, but above all, maintained the key GOP position that taxes must never go up.

But as Congress giveth, Congress also taketh. The GOP's zealotry on tax cuts is only matched by its zealotry in pursuing austerity policies. In the spring of 2011, federal spending cuts forced by Republican legislators took much-needed money out of the economy: combined with the 2012 budget, it has largely counteracted the positive benefits provided by the 2009 stimulus.

Subsequently, the GOP's refusal to countenance legislation that would help states with their own fiscal crises (largely, the result of declining tax revenue) has led to massive public sector layoffs at the state and local level. In fact, since Obama took office, state and local governments have shed 611,000 jobs; and by some measures, if not for these jobs, cuts the unemployment rate today would be closer to 7%, not its current 8.2%. In 2010 and 2011, 457,00 public sector jobs were excised; not coincidentally, at the same time, much of the federal stimulus aid from 2009 ran out. And Republicans took over control of Congress.

These cuts have a larger societal impact. When teachers are laid off, for example (and nearly 200,000 have lost their jobs), it means larger class sizes, other teachers being overworked and after-school classes being cancelled. So, ironically, a policy that is intended to save "our children and grandchildren" from "crushing debt" is leaving them worse-prepared for the actual economic and social challenges they will face in the future. In addition, with states operating under tighter fiscal budgets – and getting no hope relief from Washington – it means less money for essential government services, like help for the elderly, the poor and the disabled.

The truly disgusting part of this treasonous plan by the GOP is that it will work. And it will work for the same reasons that these things ALWAYS work, because the Republicans are better at getting their message out, and fundamentally Americans are too lazy to search for the truth behind the rhetoric.

And with the Citizen United ruling allowing hundreds of millions of corporate dollars to buy up all the available space on the airwaves, the Republican message, peppered with misinformation, deceptively edited soundbites, and outright lies, will be front and center in every American's home day in and day out until election day.

And all that we progressives have on our side, is the truth.

A truth that may be impossible for most voters to see under the mountain of money the Republicans will have at their disposal to bury it.

Well I don't know about you, but I HATE to lose! So let's make sure and spread this information far and wide. Post it on Facebook, talk about it in the carpool, tweet it far and wide, e-mail your family, but whatever you do make sure that people know the truth about who is working to help this country, and who is working to sabotage it!

And remember, some of these people may be Republicans, so make sure to speak s-l-o-w-l-y.

    Want to push back?

One of the things Republicans do best is right out of George Orwell's 1984:
    Newspeak.

Instead of "rich people" they say: "Job Creators"
Every time you hear one of your conservative friends/relatives say "job creators" YOU say "Plantation owners."

I agree that the GOP is hell-bent on destroying what we have all in the interest of electing one of their own.

As for Mitch McConnell, that turd needs to be six feet underground. He is an arrogant and dangerous man.

He is also a closeted gay man. Sometimes I thik that secret is what makes him so repulsive. He was in the army for something like 3 weeks, and was discharged for an "incident in the showers" Records sealed (shades of McCain) Then he broke down in tears when one of his "aides" took a new job a few blocks from his office. The man has a wife (beard) and children. Most women would be devastated if their husband CRIED over a fellow worker moving to a different job. If the "aide" was a female rumors would fly, but this particular aide was a guy. McConnell is so repulsive I can't see a woman or a man being attracted to him, with his dead fish eyes.

If some of these gop gay men who try to pretend they are straight would "come out" they would be happier. Keeping their sexual orientation under wraps (or so they think) fills them with hate for people who live their lives as their true selves. They mock Barney Frank, who is honest about himself. He did not marry a woman and have a fake marriage, he is too decent to do that. McConnell is gay, he should admit it and free hmself.

Treasonous Republicans sabotage the economy of the country. The 1% owns the GOP. They'd disappear like a fart in a hurricane if it weren't for Citizens United dumping millions to air lies in PAC ads.

There are so many factors, several of them involve the GOP and their obstructionist goals and "orders" to ensure President Obama's defeat in November.

One of the most divisive elements came into play during the 2010 election (and I have to blame Democrats partly.. for not getting out to vote.. overconfident?). The GOP, and more specifically, the Tea Party, thrust upon us some of the most inept, and dare I say it -- BIZARRE -- congressmen I've ever seen in my lifetime. They're hellbent on legislating morality, contraception, women's health issues, overturning Roe v Wade... NONE of which has ANYTHING to do with getting our citizens back to work or strengthening the economy. It's as if we elected a busload of bobble-headed Pat Robertson clones. And dear leader, Sarah Palin, canvassed for most of these geniuses. She's just as guilty as the rest of them. Putting our country at risk just so she can get her petty revenge... because she didn't win the "contest" in 2008. Most of the others are taking their orders from the 1%, Norquist, etc -- it's all about the party. Sarah's vendetta is personal.

The sooner we can oust these childish idiots, the sooner we can get back to restoring our economy. We have a lot of work to do, and we need people who will work instead of sitting on thumbs and waiting for the next election cycle.

Palin hasn't gotten her revenge, and what makes her even angrier is fewer people are paying attention to her. Once Fox is done with her, after the election, she'll be cast aside and will finally fade away. But, she has done a good job of hiding her ignorance to a group of people who has to have everything explained to them in simple terms, so they can understand. That, and their belief that Palin knows what she's talking about, and FOX feeding on their ignorance is what makes them who they are. I never knew before, as I'm sure many others never realized, how many and how truly ignorant people there are in our country. These are the people who pose the most danger to our form of government, which requires some intelligence of the electorate in order to make informed decisions.

The problem is that Fox "News" gives these people the "assurance" that they are, in fact, receiving the FACTS.

They are watching the "news" - they are "informed voters"! (in their own minds)

Which is why they are SO very dangerous, because they have been "armed" with these talking points that they have.been.convinced.are.the.facts.

So when you, a "liberal" tries to tell them "your facts", they just shake their head and smile b/c they believe that THEY have the facts, YOU are a sheep, and THEY are actually doing what is BEST for the country.

"Whether you believe the Republicans are engaging in purposely destructive fiscal behavior or are simply fiscally incompetent, it almost doesn't matter. It most certainly is bad economic policy and that should be part of any national debate not only on who is to blame for the current economic mess, but also what steps should be taken to get out from underneath it."

The gooptardians knew this all along. This plan was initiated way back in '08 - the day after the election. This is the most cynical of politics and so extreme that the average Joe will find it too far fetched to be real - just like paylump's faked pregnancy. So they will just go with what they hear the most like the sheople that they are.

This is going to be an amazingly ugly election and we will have to fight tooth and nail to avoid a romney presidency.

I hear that 95% of elections are won by the side that spent the most money. Historical fact. As Rachel Maddow said last week, the 8:1 funding is what turned the Wisconsin race around from numbers that went the other way just a few weeks before the Repub ads blitz. Ditto the $1 tax/pack of cigarettes in CA: CA was strongly FOR it just a few weeks earlier.

    We are in HUGE trouble.

And it's not just which party will win -- it's that the Repubs who are quoted, and the behind-the-scenes Repubs who make things happen, show not the slightest grasp of macro-economics. Or even how to tell the truth.

HUGE trouble. Don't forget voting fraud.

In at least one county in Wi, Rock county, Barrett led Walker by 17 points. So all is not lost. Most people going into the polls were against a recall, not FOR Walker. Hopefully these people who voted against the recall will have their eyes opened when Walker is indicted for his crimes. One top aide has turned state's evidence against him, for immunity. Walker could be in prison before too long, or at least on trial.

If you could ( please please) put a link in your important posts on the right With the names and White House numbers of all of these SOBs, I will call them every day until November. I am sure others would also. Most are unhappy or scared ( that would be me)where things are headed. I am so old it is not about me. It is about my daughter and her daughter. My daughter works so hard to keep food on the table and try to pay for health care that when she is home she does not want to deal with this Stuff. So I guess this my job. Her medical is (I think) either a third or forth of her check, yet they have a $5,000.00 deductible to meet. So every time one them gets sick it is like "is this a $300.00 sickness" She says for them to get to the $5000 deductible something would have to be huge and then would she have any money left. I would like my 86 year old Mother to have all the chances that john mccains Mother. He and his Mother have been on tax payer insurance for ever. I want that insurance for my family also too. How would SP/ BP feel if they had to worry about doctor appts, medicine or food. Sure we help but we are not the Romney s or mccains.
We only have one house and if any thing happen to one of us we could lose it.
I do like the way Mudflats use to get every one riled up with a rally call of ...OK we need to start calling these people(with number of course, for us old people) Am I fired up. Am I ready to go. Yes I am. This not for me or other people our age. This for our kids and grand kids. I am so scared that if our President is not reelected our world will change in a way that my kids have never known. I remember a bit how it was for women and kids back then and I do NOT want to go back there. thank you for every thing that you do.

O/t You need to check out Nan someone NY...SP/twin same look same salad.
I do not post here often because every one is so well informed and educated( which i an not but felt this was worth it).

I've seen this in action since day 1. And it's their tactics and money that keep me going. Don't think others aren't taking action.
I went to a friend's "Obama Rally" in a town near here called "Norristown, Pa." It's a town that was founded on working class values and immigrants from many countries.
We converged at a school hall that holds 890 people, and the crowd spilled into the streets. We wore our "Staff" Obama/Biden tee shirts, name tags, and we divided the town into sections. We had russian speakers in the russian area, bilingual speakers in all quadrants.
At the end, we had a short speech from Our President, and everyone was fired up, prepared, and raring to go. They'll be using their packets and getting people proper photo i,d.s for voting day, along with rides to and back from the DMV and to and back from the polls.

Get active in your own community. Even if it's making phone calls, talking to neighbors, every bit helps.

I was amazed at the turnout, the enthusiasm, and the many different age and ethnic groups, especially the college crowd.

Congress has the lowest ratings, and this post is and has been the reason all along.

    Obama/Biden 2012!

When I heard this statement of out and out treason by McConnell, I assumed it must be untrue...although it did smack of a similar gaffe by Glenn Beck who divulged to someone that he doesn't really BELIEVE all that garbage he spews, its for the MONEY.

So, maybe, I figured, McConnell just had this weighing so heavily on him, he spilled the beans on himself.

I waited for news of his arrest. It didn't come.

Oh, right: rich people don't have to worry about breaking laws...I forgot.

So, I then waited for the PUBLIC to go haywire over such a confession of guilt. But nothing.

Then I remembered how this news would NEVER make it to a Fox channel broadcast, so the people voting in their local witch, goblin, or town masturbator, simply due to their claiming to be with the Tea Party, would never know about how they got bamboozled by rightwing crazies who had NO intention of actually DOING anything about the JOBS they had campaigned on.

I've heard many say we need another harsh lesson like we got in 2007, to wake everyone up to how voting Republican is not going to do anyone any good, other than the very rich.

But that means hundreds of millions of people have to suffer like crazy, for YEARS, and the only hope would be if another Obama shows up later, to fix all the problems. We may not be as lucky, next time!

For some strange reason I receive mail sometimes from the RNC. Today I received a survey about what I wanted in their platform. As usual, I wrote on the front page of the document that I never want to receive another piece of mail or another phone call or another email for the rest of my life. I also added that I think (and I truly do) all Republicans in Congress should be tried for treason. Then I stuffed everything back in the return envelope, including the original envelope, and put it in the mail - with the RNC having to pay the postage. If I hear anything more from them, I'm calling the local party and telling them to stop harassing me.

The last Republican administration did its best to destroy this country completely and the Republicans who have been in Congress since January 2009 have done everything to thwart President Obama's steadfast work towards moving the country out of the morass that George Bush left. I think that behavior, done deliberately and with lots of malice aforethought, is treason, plain and simple.
