New ad from President Obama demonstrates why he is often called "the only grown up in the room."

Courtesy of the Huffington Post:

President Barack Obama speaks directly to the camera for the first time in this election cycle in a new TV ad released by his campaign on Monday, outlining "the choice" before American voters. The minute-long spot features the president contrasting his vision for the country with that of presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

"Over the next four months, you have a choice to make," Obama says. "Not just between two political parties, or even two people. It’s a choice between two very different plans for our country."

"Sometimes politics can seem very small," Obama says at the end of the ad. "But the choice you face, it couldn't be bigger."

I think that is a very mature ad which addresses the very real choice we face this November and, in my opinion at least, does NOT distort Mitt Romney's campaign promises.

Of course the Romney campaign did not see it that way. This from Romney spokesperson, Amanda Henneberg:

President Obama believes that government creates jobs, not hard-working entrepreneurs and small-business owners. Not only are his ‘you didn’t build that’ comments insulting to job creators, but they also reflect how unqualified he is to lead our country toward an economic recovery. Instead of meeting with his Jobs Council, he is busy holding fundraisers, playing golf and trying to tear down Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney will never be too busy to focus on jobs and the economy and it will be his top priority as president.

Did you notice that in addressing this ad the Romney campaign AGAIN misrepresented the President's words?

And do YOU remember that "These Hands" ad from the Romney camp BASED on their misrepresentation of the President's words? Yeah well as it turns out the star of the ad, Jack Gilchrist, wasn't exactly telling the American people the whole story about how he built his company ALL by himself:

The New Hampshire Union Leader’s John DiStato today reports that in 1999 the business in question, Gilchrist Metal, “received $800,000 in tax-exempt revenue bonds issued by the New Hampshire Business Finance Authority ‘to set up a second manufacturing plant and purchase equipment to produce high definition television broadcasting equipment’…” In addition, in 2011, Gilchrist Metal “received two U.S. Navy sub-contracts totaling about $83,000 and a smaller, $5,600 Coast Guard contract in 2008…”

The businessman, Jack Gilchrist, also acknowledged that in the 1980s the company received a U.S. Small Business Administration loan totaling “somewhere south of” $500,000, and matching funds from the federally-funded New England Trade Adjustment Assistance Center.

“I’m not going to turn a blind eye because the money came from the government,” Gilchrest said. “As far as I’m concerned, I’m getting some of my tax money back. I’m not stupid, I’m not going to say ‘no.’ Shame on me if I didn’t use what’s available.”

Yeah so Mr. Gilchrest built his company with his own two hands alright, AND some much needed assistance from his government,  Which of course was ALL that the President was trying to say.

But of course Mitt Romney knew that, didn't he? He just hoped that the people he was pandering to were just dumb enough NOT to know that.

So essentially Romney has only helped to drive the point of this advertisement home. We indeed have a choice.  On the one hand we have an honorable man who has worked diligently for the American people in the face of almost overwhelming adversity, and on the other a secretive egomaniac who constantly depends on lies and  misinformation to defeat his opponents, and is who barely tolerated by his Republican comrades.

Yep, the choice could not be clearer.

Well, rest assured you lucky peeps that don't live in a swing state, cause these ads from both sides are running ad nauseum. Mitt's strategy of running empty rhetoric, half truths, and and no policy vision is destined to fail. He has yet to articulate any other domestic policy beyond, I'm not Barack Obama.

Watching TV and they just ran a portion of Romney's speech today (before the VFW) where he called our President 'a corrupt president'!

They ran the clip over and over again! This guy is the lowest of the lowest and I cannot even believe he is a candidate for this high office.

Can you imagine him dealing in foreign affairs if elected? He scares the hell out of me! And, to think he's going overseas soon. I don't trust this asshole as far as I can throw him.

My mother isn't a very informed voter. She doesn't stay on top of all of the topics and subjects. However, she had Sarah Palin pegged in '08, just from her body language. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there, like my mom, who can "read" Mitt Romney as the two-faced pretentious liar that he is.

Since all Romney can come up with is attack ads filled with lies, maybe Obama should just run ads refuting Romney's lies? It would be easy enough. Show Romney's ad with DiStato talking, and a ticker underneath showing what's a lie.

    1. And run ads pointing out that Romney and his staff took or destroyed all of his records from his time as governor, so that no one else would know what he was actually doing and why, and who he was talking to and why.
This is the most dangerously secretive man to run for the White House since Cheney became Bush's VP choice.

President Obama is getting some help defending his record toward small businesses from a major player in the corporate world.

Former Costco CEO and co-founder Jim Sinegal endorsed the president’s economic policies and bid for a second term in an email message Monday night to be blasted out by the Obama campaign.

The show of support comes amid an onslaught of attacks by Republicans that paint Obama as anti-business, including a new TV ad by presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney that uses out-of-context remarks by the president to suggest he has denigrated small business owners’ success.

“You might be seeing some ads or hearing some folks say that President Obama doesn’t support small business owners,” Sinegal wrote. “But he understands that small businesses grow and prosper because of individual initiative – because entrepreneurs like you and me do the hard work it takes, and we can’t do it alone.”

There you go again, Gryphen. What's up with you and this strange obsession you have with, um.... the truth? I think we can all figure out why you had to thrown in with the progressives: the GOP wouldnt take you!

On behalf of future-Presidient Mittens Rmoney, I beseech you to stop pointing out the hypocrisy, the half-truths, the flat-out lies, the racist innuendo, the xenophobic dog whistles, and general fear mongering of the Great American Right Wing. The conservatives are close to taking complete control of this country and they DO NOT appreciate people like you and this Obama fella - who seems like a decent guy but just doesn't understand Amercia - from interfering. CUT IT OUT!!!

Off topic, yet still a bit Gilchristeque.

Several years plus ago, I worked for a non-profit. Next door to our building was a law firm. One of the lawyers used to park in our parking lot as he felt entitled to do so.

When my boss politely ask this lawyer to not park in our parking lot, the lawyer's response (I'll leave out the negative attitude and more about him) was his taxes paid for non-profits to be non-profit, this lawyer could do what he wanted to do.

Interesting how some people think that not only does the government owe them something, yet all other people (or our small non-profit) owes them something too. Since he was paying more taxes.

Though I should have asked my boss, although this was 2006, yet if it were now, we should ask the lawyer for several years of his tax forms. Plus the long versions of all forms.

Perhaps back to 1988 when the little non-profit was established. We'll need proof please of the lawyers taxes.

Anyway, Gilchrist, since we're all paying taxes even when the tea says not all people pay taxes, raspberry sound, I'm not going to feel bad for the little bits of this and that I get from government.

Plus I still think, the reason Rmoney won't release his tax forms is Mitt got a refund and probably didn't pay taxes in those years.

I'm amazed...something is really weird! I saw on TV today where Romney called President Obama 'corrupt', but nothing more is being said about it.

What in the hell is going on. MSNBC is not even showing Romney's words...I think Romney is a fucking jerk and cannot even imagine he is 'in the running' for President of the United States.

Thank God we have President Obama!!!!

"Always" - Obama for America TV Ad

"Those ads taking my words about small business out of context; they're flat out wrong. Of course Americans build their own business. Everyday hard-working people sacrifice to meet a payroll, create jobs, and make our economy run.

And what I said was that we need to stand behind them as America always has. By investing in education, training, roads and bridges, research and technology. I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message because I believe we're all in this together."

    President Obama:
"If you got a business, you didn't build that..."

    Voice-over:
"Wait a minute, Romney deliberately altered the meaning of the President's words. Actually, he was talking about, 'building infrastructure and education, not that individuals don't build their businesses.'"

    Voice-over:
"Romney's been caught doing this before. Another attack ad was called 'a blatant fast one for manipulating video of the President'. See the whole tape and decided for yourself."

Since day one, President Obama has made it a priority to keep the sacred trust we hold with those who wear the uniform of the United States and their families.

In advance of the President's remarks at the VFW Convention in Reno, Obama for America released this video that discusses the President's commitment to keeping our nation's sacred promise to our veterans. This video highlights a St. Louis parade organized to welcome our servicemembers home from Iraq.

Stephanie Cutter shares how Mitt Romney's new TV ad blatantly twists President Obama's words on small business owners and entrepreneurs. Mitt Romney is not telling the truth about what the President said, and he is taking the President's words out of context.

President Obama has consistently fought for small businesses and entrepreneurs. The President knows that hard working people turning ideas into successful businesses built the American middle class.

  16. Gryphen, you wanna know what really chaps my hide about you and librul Bolshevik blog buddies? I'll tell you: you're always slamming Mittens Rmoney and yet you don't know him personally.

Now, I'm the first to admit, he's socially awkward, has an odd mincing gait, a robotic speaking style, a tenuous grasp of the truth and likely huge undisclosed tax and investment problems. But at least I'm willing to look beyond his external douchebaggery and try to understand his ideas for this country.

And ya know what, I have to admit Rmoney is kinda awesome! How do I know I know that? Well, unlike the average librul nosebreather reading your defunct blog, I actually went out and purchased a copy of "50,000 Actions I Will Take On Day ONE Of My Presidency to Reverse The Total Destruction Of Amercia Caused By The Blackguard Barack Hussain Obama". (two points about the book: 1) Most online book dealers file it under 'fiction' because its content is so far removed from reality and 2) the second printing removed the word "blackguard" when it was pointed out that there might be a few Americans who find that word offensive. Of course, the 3rd edition has the word "pickaninny" instead so it still seems to be an issue, but let's try to focus on the ideas inside of the book instead of the overt racism, ok?)

So, let's look at Action #1: cut taxes on the wealthy. WOOOO HOOO!!!!! That's the sound I would be making if I were wealthy. Which I'm not. But I'm going to just take it on faith that when a wealthy man says he's going to cut taxes on the wealthy, it's somehow a good thing for me, also, too.

Action #2: eliminate every regulation on business imposed since Rutherford B. Hayes was president. I guess I have to say I like this idea mostly because I've always been an admirer of President Hayes, our greatest 15th president EVER!

Action #3: repeal Obamacare. FINALLY those kids aged 21-26 can slough off the yoke of their suffocating parental units and get their own insurance! And unless I have a pre-existing condition I don't know about or will ever be at risk of losing insurance, I really can't see how Obamacare helps me at all. Plus, I collect those sexy Big Pharma calendars featuring the babes with giant bazongas in naughty nursing attire. I'm just guessing your Obama will put an end to that, too....

Now, Actions 4 through 2500 are just repeating Actions #1, #2 and #3 over and over and over. But that just proves how thorough Mittens will be to wipe out any evidence that Obama was ever president. Isn't Mittens the greatest!!!

But, I assure you that if you take ANY of the remaining 47500 actions, you'll see EACH AND EVERY ONE is an effective way to make this country better overnight. Let's see...

I randomly picked Action #35481. Lemme look.... WOOOOO HOOO!!!! AWESOME!!! Listen to this one: "Re-establish U.S. Army Dressage Corps." YES!!!!! I won't bore you with the details because after all, SATAN is in the details, but this country hasn't had a well-equipped, well-trained dressage corps since 1792 (mostly because of partisan Democratic opposition) and we've suffered dearly ever since.

Thank the Gods our country still has patriotic wealthy people who already have dressage horses and are willing to lease them to the government for $65,000-$125,000 per month. Just see what happens if Napoleon tries to invade Massachusetts once the Dressage Corps is up and running!

And that is why I am endorsing Williard Millard Mittens "Mitt" Rmoney for president in 2012.

    2. I feel angry each time I hear Romney lie and spin his false assignations against business owners making Obama the whipping boy for his deceit. The tactic is malicious portraying the president the opposite in negative distortions.

I would love to see an ad with Papa John and others Romney lied about state the president did not say what Romney lies he did. The republicans are running a distortion campaign. I expect Romney would do the same in office.

Also Romney is guilty of distorting his self. The republican base gets "fired up" the more intense malicious distortions are. Pathetic.

Ann Romney's position is that the American voters already have everything they need to know about how the Romneys live their life. Not much point in watching in a Romney campaign ad. Right, Ann?

Mitt Romney has got to dig up a non-robotic veep candidate who managed to pay an even lower tax rate than Mitt. Mitt's current adverts are feeble attempts to staff off the rising tide of tax disclosure demands. Mitt is behaving like the tax disclosure issue is resolved. He is even stupider than I thought.

I'm in a battleground state, and we're carpet bombed with ads from both candidates, but the ones that really grab people's attention are the President's.
This one is especially effective because it's direct, intimate, and causes the viewer to stop and think.
Romney's taking the President out of context and running with it isn't playing well, despite Brancy's and the Romney team believe.

Romney can't run on being "not Obama", comparing their websites shows who's serious about the job, who has a clear plan, and who connects with the middle class and poor. hint: It ain't Mitt.
