Matt Taibbi's Rolling Stone article on Mitt Romney is a MUST read.

The set design in perfect for Romney's big convention speech.
Courtesy of Rolling Stone:

The great criticism of Mitt Romney, from both sides of the aisle, has always been that he doesn't stand for anything. He's a flip-flopper, they say, a lightweight, a cardboard opportunist who'll say anything to get elected.

The critics couldn't be more wrong. Mitt Romney is no tissue-paper man. He's closer to being a revolutionary, a backward-world version of Che or Trotsky, with tweezed nostrils instead of a beard, a half-Windsor instead of a leather jerkin. His legendary flip-flops aren't the lies of a bumbling opportunist – they're the confident prevarications of a man untroubled by misleading the nonbeliever in pursuit of a single, all-consuming goal. Romney has a vision, and he's trying for something big: We've just been too slow to sort out what it is, just as we've been slow to grasp the roots of the radical economic changes that have swept the country in the last generation.

The incredible untold story of the 2012 election so far is that Romney's run has been a shimmering pearl of perfect political hypocrisy, which he's somehow managed to keep hidden, even with thousands of cameras following his every move. And the drama of this rhetorical high-wire act was ratcheted up even further when Romney chose his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin – like himself, a self-righteously anal, thin-lipped, Whitest Kids U Know penny pincher who'd be honored to tell Oliver Twist there's no more soup left. By selecting Ryan, Romney, the hard-charging, chameleonic champion of a disgraced-yet-defiant Wall Street, officially succeeded in moving the battle lines in the 2012 presidential race.

  1. My favorite part, evidence of how the titans have "evolved" since the days of philanthropists like Carnegie:

"We try to hide religiously," explained Steven Feinberg, the CEO of a takeover firm called Cerberus Capital Management that recently drove one of its targets into bankruptcy after saddling it with $2.3 billion in debt. "If anyone at Cerberus has his picture in the paper and a picture of his apartment, we will do more than fire that person," Feinberg told shareholders in 2007. "We will kill him. The jail sentence will be worth it."

I tend to think we're so far past Earth's carrying capacity that it doesn't really matter who gets elected, but there are stooges, and then there are the truly evil. Mitt fits into that category nicely, as do the Koch brothers.

Right on man! Evil enough to kill the homeless and elderly and non-white classes. Throw in a few kitties and puppies too.

yeah gryphen you're not kidding, it IS a must read. I read this earlier today and I was floored. the man has absolutely no right to be talking about the debt of the country and government running up debt with other people's $ since that's exactly how he made his fortune (other than the inheritance). oh, and he's all of a sudden going to decrease the debt when he's spent his entire life increasing the debt of others? what a fuck head. I am amazed that any WORKING person could support such a shit. this guy has no concept of life as a worker but he sure knows how to put workers out of jobs in order to enrich himself. disgusting.

It is a very good article.

Too bad the average voter will not understand what is written; and how bad Mitt screwed many companies and thousands of employees.

Mitt has 666 on his scalp ..and he keeps it hidden.

O/T - Scarah posted on her FB that FAUX has CANCELED all of her appearances tonight! Maybe they FINALLY realized she is sabotaging the republican party? Aw, and ALL she was going to do was wish McCain well........uh huh. Here is what she posted:
"I’m sorry Fox cancelled all my scheduled interviews tonight because I sure wanted to take the opportunity on the air to highlight Senator John McCain’s positive contributions to America, to honor him, and to reflect on what a biased media unfairly put him through four years ago tonight. Granted, our honored and esteemed war hero has gone through much more than the liberal media can ever do to him in their efforts to harm this patriot. I look forward to hearing his words to his fellow Americans tonight more than any of the other convention speeches. God bless John McCain. Thank you for everything. And happy birthday, my friend."

She looks more and more like a raving drug addict.

Tell me Fox never noticed? It would be fun to be a fly on the wall for these conversations.

She sounds more pleasant than usual in that FB post. Would like to know what it is actually about. Why wouldn't they want her to honor the McCain? Is he the one that got them to pull the plug on her? I betcha the real story is hilarious.

Great article but, and it is a big but, who is reading it? The Taibbi article on the Fed bailout of Bain also is great. These should be required reading for anyone who plans on voting BUT, again, people like Romney don't care and people who hate Obama don't care. So that leaves those who distrust Romney to read the articles.

As long as Fox News is the most watched channel on television and the rest are considered "librul", preaching to the choir is best description for thoughtful and intelligent writers such as Taibbi.

I read Matt's article this morning, I have been a huge fan for years. His work on McCain really opened my eyes 4 years ago too, he is one of those few journalists that actually understands this financial stuff...I urge anyone to read all his stuff. What I found most interesting, and I read this somewhere else, is the Bain investors really didn't make huge profits, around 30% which is the basic profits made from just regular investing. Bain itself made these ridiculous profits by management fees only. So it seems Robme really was not as smart as people think he is, he is simply a thief, specializing in tax schemes. The $10 million government bailout is just icing on the cake..its like Syndly Whiplash is twirling his moustache as he laughs at the rest of us. I don't think his family has a clue to what their father really is and George Robme must be turning over in his grave.

I suspect his eldest son has a clue, as he's gone into the same line of work, and like his father was connected to a Ponzi scheme in Texas, and who himself is angled to make money off of the destruction of public education in favor of for profit charter schools.

  11. Yeah, G, Tiabbi did it again. One of the only true journalists we have left.

Mindbending details about how rMoney profited through putting others in debt. What a slimy fucktard. I hope he loses in a landslide.

  12. A lot of people read Rolling Stone. Had a subscription for years. Matt was on Martin Bashir today and said that Romney is just like Gordon Gecko from the film "Wall Street." Great writer; great article.

    Read it!!!
What a horrible specimen of humanity Romney is. If he wins, we are all so screwed. If there was any justice, not only would he lose, but he'd end up being called to account for all of his financial skullduggery.

I watched "Wall Street" a couple of months ago and wrote on various blogs that Romney fit the story exactly. Frightening as hell and I'm glad someone else got everyones attention about it.
