A little beauty to cleanse our palate before we toddle off to dream land.

Downtown Cordova, Alaska
A bunch of delicious Silver Salmon
The area around town is quite scenic
Cordova at night
The harbor, also at night.
These pictures are once again courtesy of my friend Dennis Zaki, who just finished filming a commercial in Cordova.

He thought you would all enjoy these amazing pictures.

I thought you might as well.

Beautiful. It makes me sad that I missed another Alaska summer. I do plan to make up for it over the next year. Thanks for sharing Dennis and Gryphen.

Be aware. Romney's Agricultural Advisors are MONSANTO partners & lobbyists. Monsanto was HUGE client of Romney / Bain.

"The Nation’s investigative report has uncovered how Mitt Romney personally helped Monsanto shed its string of toxic chemical-related scandals and reinvent itself to dominate American agriculture. Monsanto, an early Bain & Company client, was so impressed with Romney that they started bypassing his superiors to deal with him directly. Romney’s close relationship with then CEO John Hanley prompted his boss to create Bain Capital to keep Romney from leaving and taking their largest consulting client with him."

The association of Monsanto, Romney/Bain goes back to 1977 as Romney helped them navigate through their lawsuits. He etch-a-sketched them -- like he's trying to etch-a-sketch himself again this week. Romney will do anything for Monsanto.

"As the 2012 Farm Bill seems destined to languish until after the election, Romney would undoubtedly approve the “Monsanto rider” tucked into the House bill that would render the USDA impotent in blocking unsafe or untested products, forbid outside studies of Monsanto products’ safety, and exempt itself from environmental law. It would also allow Monsanto to rush clearance of its not-yet-approved “Agent Orange corn,” designed to resist that same defoliant that led the company to pay out a $180 million settlement to 52,000 contaminated troops during its Bain years."

Obama wishes 'L'Shana Tovah' (Daniel Strauss, thehill.com)

President Obama released a new video recognizing Rosh Hashnah and Yom Kippur on Thursday.

The video comes ahead of the two Jewish holidays. Rosh Hashnah begins Sept. 16 and Yom Kippur begins Sept. 25.

"As we look forward to the beginning of the Jewish High Holidays Sunday night, I want to extend my warmest wishes to all those celebrating the New Year," Obama says in the video. "This is a joyful time for millions of people around the world. But Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are also opportunities for reflection. They represent a chance to take stock of our lives and look forward to the coming year with clear eyes and renewed purpose."

Gryphen, this is O/T but I didn't want to trust my memory to save it for a more related post.

A commenter at the NPR website recommended this:
    http://www.icivics.org/

It is set up to help teachers or anyone to learn/teach what used to be taught in our public schools as 'civics'.

To stay the fight with the fear-mongering RWNJ, having this knowledge will help in counteracting their arguments. If we share with our friends and children, this will make us all better citizens.

I was just about to tuck in for the night when I came across this article.

    http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/has-palin-forgotten-power-obscurity-and-fate?page=0,2

I started reading thinking it would be a nice night cap- nodding off with visions of Scarah stuffed into cave real estate already claimed by a real Grizzly Mama when I read these comments:

    By Paul Singer | September 15, 2012 - 4:54pm:

perhaps you might want to ask why the DNC wants to vote god out of there platform.. why they want to divide America on racial and class lines before you show to a national audience ... what cold Alaska covet-er you are

    by LastGirl | September 15, 2012 - 7:02pm:

Paul, it is apparent you did not watch the DNC. You are only going by what someone said was said. If you had watched the convention, you would have known that; 1) the Pledge of Alligence was recited and "one nation under God" was not left out; 2) besides the Pledge, God was mentioned by several speakers.

Please do me a favor. Lock Sarah Palin up in a cave somewhere in Alaska. The lower 48 is tired of her and her money grubbing family. She refers to the media that she panders to as lame stream. That is the media that pays her a million dollars a year.

Please take her back. We are tired of her.

LG, You haven't seen anything yet.

(Eeeek! Cue your choice of scariest movie music)

Now I'm going to be up half the night watching "Friends" reruns and trying to shake the image of that Trilogy of Terror doll. ((shudder))

I love these posts! Thanks for sharing Alaska with your readers.

    O.T.

My nephew and his partner are visiting next month for Equality Forum. He shared this link, and I thought I'd share it with you.

This is why President Obama fights for marriage equality.

Ah, Cordova. Mom and I lived there, she longer than me, back in the 80's. Beautiful, special place.
