Politically for Democrats it is a beautiful day and the sun is shining bright, however there are dark clouds on the horizon.

Ricky Watson hugs President Obama in gratitude for the repeal of DADT. Watson is a gay man who was kicked out of the Air Force 25 years ago
Currently there is nothing but good news concerning the 2012 presidential election.

Just look at these numbers courtesy of Esquire:

Not only that but the President's premier policy decision, the Affordable Care Act, is having a very positive impact and becoming more and more acceptable to the people of America. Especially the young people of America:

In all, over 3 million young adults age 19-25 now have health insurance thanks to a provision in Obamacare that lets parents keep their young adult children on their plans up to age 26.

Essentially if the election were held tomorrow, the President would DESTROY Mitt Romney.

That is of course, if the Republicans were planning to let the people decide this election.  And as we have seen time and time again, the Republicans have NO interest in the will of the American people.

This from Greg Palast, the man who discovered Karl Rove's "voter caging" strategy:

Karl Rove - "Turdblossom" as Bush called him - has a computer-data-mining system called DataTrust, which he's joining up with a data-mining computer system set up the Koch brothers called Themis. These are voter-eating machines, designed to juice the attack on voter rolls by GOP secretaries of state. Ready for this? Over 22 million names were purged from voter rolls in the last two years. Those figures are from the US Election Assistance Commission - hidden in plain sight. And who gets purged?

Black voters, Latinos, Native Americans. In Colorado, the Republican secretary of state purged 19.4 percent of voters - that's one in five! In the book, she's the Purge'n General. Obama took Colorado in '08. He can kiss it goodbye.

My co-investigator and I, Bobby Kennedy, called the secretary of state of California, a Dem, who told us her GOP predecessor blocked 42 percent of new voter registrations because they had "suspicious" names - like Mohammed. For this reason, despite massive voter drives and the increase in Latino citizenship, Hispanic registration has dropped by 1 million since 2008. Caramba!

In all, 5,901,814 legitimate votes and voters were tossed out of the count in 2008. In '12 it will be worse. Way worse.

This is why it is imperative that we are EXTREMELY vigilant and make sure that not only do WE vote but that we help others, such as minorities and the elderly, get the opportunity to vote as well. And that includes Romney voters as well. We should not discriminate.

We are in a war my friends, and stakes are to protect the foundations on which our nation was built.

The Republicans are constantly pimping their version of "freedom" and "values" but they care about none of that, virtually every decision they make is to retain power. And if they cannot hold onto it legitimately, well then they will use every dirty trick at their disposal.

In 2000 they used the Supreme Court, in 2004 they used Diebold machines, and now they are trotting out aggressive voter suppression. All to retain power and block the implementation of laws that would keep their corporate overlords from making obscene amounts of money.  Money that is then spent willingly on THEIR reelection campaigns.

And the cycle continues.

Remember "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. and then you're a Republican."

"data-mining computer system set up [by] the Koch brothers called Themis."

Themis is the Greek Goddess of Justice who personifies the order of things established by law, custom, and ethics.

    That's pretty damn ironic.

Yes indeed and very sad. What happened in FL will be repeated nationally. I'm very afraid that despite Mitt being a complete disaster and the GOP intending on ripping every last cent they can from the 99% that the GOP has an iron clad lock on this election.

Yes, voter fraud. V serious. But there's another shoe waiting to drop: dirty tricks.

Vigilance. This is such an important election.

Totally OT: Okay, I'm sorry this doesn't have anything to do with this most excellent thread (I think God wants Obama to win ;) but you've got to watch Ann Coulter today vomiting some sort of tripe about how terrible Obama is yadda, yadda, yadda. Now, what she is saying isn't what's so funny about the spot but it's the hideous left-eye false eyelashes she's sporting. Fox Noise must have gotten a discount on the economy size of false eyelashes cuz all the girls in Ailes' stable are wearing them. Gretchen "Air-Head" Carlson was wearing the same pair that Ann was. Gretchen's left-eye false eyelashes were so big you couldn't even see her eyes. Who thinks that's attractive? Maybe an Obama supporter is doing make-up over there and are just trying to make those old hags look even more whorish than they already are. It just looked stupid!!

  6. Calling George Orwell to a white courtesy phone. I have never given much creed to conspiracy theorists, but my mind is changing. Here we have a systematic effort to illegally cut out millions of legitimate voters; a higher tech recap of the hanging chad debacle, and in a related note, what are the links, if any, between the right wing conspiracy and the Innocence of Islam video that conveniently peaked close to 9/11 with a promo effort touched by so many arch conservatives?

"(we should help everyone vote) And that includes Romney voters as well. We should not discriminate."

Um... Are you serious? That's a terrible idea.

"Rmoney voters" have BILLIONS of dollars, some of it spent in evil ways, on their side. We don't need to - and shouldn't - help them do anything.

This is war, dude. We shouldn't stoop to their level and do anything illegal, unethical or immoral. But we sure as shit don't need to make their job any easier. Their agenda is LITERALLY committed to helping nobody but the rich.

We MUST discriminate. (And also vote against the bastards.)

I live in Colorado; our Secretary of State is a Republican- Scott Gessler, not a "she". (Unless I misread the article). I will be doing research on the CO facts; there have been many groups watching, critiquing and publicizing Gessler's actions- the publicity caused an end to his plan to challenge 1400 persons, based on 14,000 letters sent. The Post and most county clerks complained that they could accomplish what he wanted before November.

Gessler's two very public searches, one with KS, turned up.... 4 in the first case, and maybe 47 in the second- most registered to vote in error by counties when they applied for drivers licenses using a green card- legal in our state.

    CO almost Native

If you were a troll I would blast you because your essential point does not come through in your post....but it seems like you might have some interesting info?

Please try again, starting with "The Post..." What is going on there? CO is critical....

      thanks

I moved to a new town went to town hall and registered to vote. Never was asked for an I.D. but I live in Massachusetts. The clerk told me that I would get confirmation in the mail in a few days and if I didn't call. I got a letter of confirmation in the mail which I plan to bring with me when I vote. I doubt that I will need it but I'm thinking that some of these register to vote drives which help people to get the proper I.D. should also tell people to bring that confirmation letter with them as well. Imagine if these people register and get the I.D. but are still turned away? If they have the confirmation letter with them then they can push back and say NO I AM A REGISTERED VOTER AND HERE IS THE PROOF!!

i think I am most amazed at looking at this graph that shows Region: 54 blue and 37 red in the west vs. 65 blue and 28 red in the east. Someone educate this Canadian because I am thinking that the west has always been more blue than the east. Is this just due to population?

The west most likely includes states like Utah & Idaho which are conservative and will pull down the blue #s from California, Oregon, & Washington while the East region is the northeastern states which are all blue/leaning blue.

I have to disagree with this graphic. I am white, 59, and we earn over 100,000, and we are voting for Obama. So someone please poll ME!
And my mother, who is 82 and lives on SS and doesn't need healthcare because she never goes to the DR., is also voting in Ohio for Obama, Sherrod Brown and anyone else not GOP!

No one polls me either!!! I'm registered as 'non partisan', in good financial shape, retired and planning on voting for anyone NOT Republican in November! I voted for President Obama and VP Joe Biden last go around and assuredly will this time!

Romney and Ryan really scare the hell out of me. Get friends and family out to vote - make sure everyone is registered and has the proper ID.

Thank you for posting that photo of President Obama getting that hug, Gryphen. Even with Mr Watson's face partly hidden you can see the emotion on his face surrounded by the joy of everyone around them, it's a beautiful scene to behold.

For those of us in blue states who may be at a loss as to what we can do to help, there's an organization called voteriders.com. Here is their mission statement:

VoteRiders is a non-partisan, non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that all citizens are able to exercise their right to vote. Through resources and media exposure, VoteRiders supports on-the-ground organizations that assist citizens to get their voter IDs and inspires local volunteers and communities to sustain such programs and galvanize others to emulate these efforts.

Gryphen - I know I'm a little late to the party, so this comment won't be seen by many. But I hope you will include this info in a future post. If you or any of your readers know of any other specific organizations that assist the disenfranchised, that info would be appreciated too. It's not enough to shake our heads or get angry.

To paraphrase President Obama, "Don't boo - get out the vote!"
