In Alaska on days like this which drain us of our vitality, and leave us empty and feeling inconsequential, it only takes a moment to cast our eyes upon the beauty that surrounds us to remind us that we are part of something amazing and breathtaking.
Despite what you might hear from some this place is not here to serve the needs of man, it is here to humble man with its presence, and inspire us to overcome our petty troubles and strive to achieve our potential.
At least that is how I have always seen it. And how it has always worked for me.
P.S. Yes these are also pictures from my friend the very talented Dennis Zaki.
what a beautiful sight! thanks Uncle Gryff for bringing such beautiful images on such a solemn anniversary.
ReplyDeleteThis is OT, but...

...NBC decided to skip the 9/11 Moment of Silence to talk about Kris Jenners Fake Boob implants. They defended themselves to politico by saying that they talked about 9/11 throughout the show, but when keeping up with a Kardashian trumps a Moment of Silence that most every other cable network and radio station observed, someone in program scheduling really needs to reevaluate their priorities. im sure someone is going to be losing their job over this sign of such massive disrespect.
wow nice camera. super creative. very diverse grouping. what bold composition!
ReplyDeleteThere is a reason why we call it God's country. :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteOh the pitbull is begging to put off her leash and Billo is cheerleading her all the way.

Bill also may be tricking her and showing how really dumb Sarah is. The main thing most consultants have said not to do is call Obama names because his favorability is so high. She is so stupid.
DeleteSarah hit Facebook, too talking about "growing a big stick." She's just a filthy, sleazy, dirty mouth. Utter trash.
Calendar quality photos!

ReplyDeleteBreathtaking photos. The farthest north I have been is Idaho and although it's beautiful as well, I'd love to see Alaska. The hubby played in Valdez New Years of 2000 and said it was unbelievably majestic. You're a lucky man!
The earth is full of beautiful wonders and every state has theirs as well as mine. What gorgeous pictures Dennis took! However, I am sorry to say that we won't be back to Alaska until the Palin family melts away completely. I know a family of 21 - Great grandparents, grandparents, parents and children & babies. Every year they always had their family reunion by going on a cruise to Alaska. When Sarah arrived on the national scene they now go to Hawaii for the last 4 years. Sorry to say that but it's true. On the other hand Palin probably has attracted some tourists....especially of the right wing type. Anyway, enjoy your beauties and your winter!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to visit Alaska, thank you for sharing. I have spent most of my life on either coast and sitting on the beach fills me with that same wonderment you must feel living in a place so damn beautiful. I surely hope our government remembers to preserve your state now and in the future.

ReplyDeleteThat sums it up! Add the Aurora Borealis, But to me, Alaska's greatest resource is it's people.
I love the calendar idea! Dennis's photography is top notch!
I was struck by that observation, too, Anita! Pretty profound.
DeleteOn another note, my gosh...look at that Technicolor blue sky. Beautiful photography of just a perfect landscape.
