I missed these pictures of the President meeting with college students in Charlottesville, Virginia from last Wednesday, which is a shame because they are amazing!
On a day where temperatures reached 84 degrees, the President still managed to attract a crowd that numbered close to 7,500.
Enthusiasm gap my ass!
You know seeing these pictures really makes me hopeful that even with ALL of the bullshit that the GOP is throwing at the voters of America, that they will STILL do the right thing for this country.
Well let me update this bad boy: Here are a few pictures from the President's visit to Urbandale, Iowa just today.
Damn, that's impressive!
(H/T for the photos goes to the Obama Diary.)
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
ReplyDeleteFORWARD!!
YES WE CAN if we get control of the house and senate and then NOTHING will stop the betterment of middle class America!
Great pics. Tho 84 in C'ville isn't all that hot.
ReplyDeleteI'm an Alaskan through and through. So when the temperature exceeds the high seventies I am reduced to a puddle of whimpering perspiration.
Delete84 degrees sounds hot to me.
But I STILL would have shown up to see the President.
LOL -- Here, it has been 100 all week. We're thrilled to have it down to JUST 91 today.
DeleteIf it's 84 degrees and humid it's miserable. It's still darn hot to stand in the sun for any length of time. Still, I also would have shown up and waited to see President Obama, I'd just dress for the occasion and have lots of ice water nearby and wrap ice packs around my neck. Works beautifully.
DeleteI'm thrilled to have it down to 100F as well. It was a 115 in June. You're such a wuss, Gryphen. Ok, ok, I admit I get hypothermic when it reaches 30F, so I guess we're both wusses.
DeleteAND those aren't all college students and teachers.

Today! WHOO HOO!
ReplyDeletehttp://theobamadiary.com/2012/09/01/they-came-in-their-thousands-2/
How did they get all those people there??? They must have bused them in from Tampa.
ReplyDeleteLook at them...they're seething with anger! They're so disappointed with his broken promises! He will never get them to vote for him again!
just kidding! Also good pics from yesterday at Ft. Bliss.
Obama/Biden 2012!
Fired up! Ready to go!
ReplyDeleteHey,it was in the mid to upper 90's in Fort Collins, Colorado on Tuesday, and the president attracted a crowd of 13,000 there.
I've seen similar crowds in photos for Romney (on the FB page of friends :{.) I've wondered if they've been photoshopped, so I wonder if this has been too?
ReplyDeleteOff topic but sort of related:
What if bakers & entertainers (amateur or otherwise) go to the polls and sing and perform NON-PARTISAN, NON-POLITICAL skits & songs to entertain the people waiting in line and support their effort to be heard, as well as pass out cookies and cakes and trail mix, etc. I live in a blue, blue, blue state so probably not worth much around here, but there's a swing state a few hours from me. Hmmmm. Might even send a message to the voter suppressors that their efforts not only didn't work, they backfired.
That's one of the craziest comments that I have ever read on here....and I've been reading IM for 3+ years.
DeleteHuh?

lolwhut?
DeletePlease post a picture of Romney with a similar crowd. And not at the convention, but how about one at a college campus.
DeleteWe all know you don't have any friends, just Facebook pages you've manage to wheedle yourself on to.

DeleteOver 40% of UVA students are in the ¨social register.¨
ReplyDeleteYuck.
Nevertheless, this insignificant factoid adds illumination to our President´s appeal. The man has traction.
Obama is not the President of black people - he is the President of thought and ideas.
I am so glad the convention is over...let all the lies really sink in. The Voter ID laws are getting thrown out and the GOP congress wannabes are running away from Lyin Ryan's budget. I hope Obama has enough money to last in Oct when you know he is gonna be slammed. I just wish the IRS moved faster on Rove's GPS and those other so called non-political groups that are tax exempt and are able to hide their donors. Now that would be something having his krap exposed.
ReplyDeleteDang! The GOPPERS must be ever more delusional than I suspected. Mitty just can’t seem to get traction. (or satisfaction!)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure MrsAnneRmoney doesn't get much satisfaction either. Can you imagine being in the sack with ol' Mittbot? Ick!
DeleteI don't even need a hint of that in my head. Ewwww!
DeleteM from MD
And the problem is Obama's Fault!!
DeleteJust for laughs, pull up any video with Romney, and try to imitate his blinking, eye darting, and swarmy smirk while waiting for the audience to react.
...but will they be allowed to vote come Nov?

Awesome! O/T How is Chuckles book tour going, with Chuckles Jr??
ReplyDeleteIt is very heartening to see those crowds and I hope there are many more to come.
ReplyDeleteThe backers of Willard the Weasel and Lyin' Ryan will stop at nothing to get their puppet in the White House, and if that happens, we're all fucked.
Yay! I love looking at the real America! Looks so hopeful. I am really trying to stay positive that President Obama will get a 2nd term after watching the RNC craptastic show this week. Boy, just watching what little I could handle, was so depressing.
ReplyDeleteI live in Seattle and the Stranger has a great article about being at the RNC that I thought IM'ers might want to read. Very well written and so true!

Thank you Alicat. That was so good!
DeleteJust wanted to point out to my Alaskan friend that 84 degrees in Virginia, plus given this summer of 90s and 100s, was probably no big deal for those who came to see Obama.
ReplyDeleteEven here in Wisconsin, 84 after days of 99+ seems only slightly hot.
Love the huge crowds, though!!
Failing the Commander in Chief Test
ReplyDelete...So Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan, when you are asking whether we are better off today than four years ago, I have some suggestions of some people to ask. Ask military members and their families if they are better off without multiple tours to Iraq and painful family separations. Ask veterans if they are better off with the educational opportunities offered by the New GI bill of Rights. Ask the vets who were excluded from earned veterans' care by the policies of the unmentionable previous president. Ask the spouses who have found it easier to transfer professional credentials to new duty station states due to the work of Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. Ask the formerly homeless vets who have been the beneficiaries of another Obama promise kept. And, stealthily of course, no sense stirring up the bigots, ask the thousands of gay and lesbian servicemen if they are better off not having to live a lie.
Mr. Romney, you raised the canard of an Obama "apology tour" that never happened and said you were going on a jobs tour. Hold that thought. You need to go on another tour first, a tour to apologize to our troops and our veterans for snubbing them so egregiously.
Mr. Romney, you have not the faintest idea of the struggles that military members and their families face. And you do not understand that their lives are much better than four years ago. You have not experienced anything like the trauma of war and its aftermath. Before you can claim to be qualified as Commander in Chief you need to talk to the troops and the vets and listen to their stories, their hopes and their fears and ask your sidekick to do the same.

Awesome, heart-warming Reddit thread about how people are better off now than they were 4 years ago:

I wonder if the DNC will make a skit with an actor yelling at an empty chair with these excellent points?
DeleteJust kidding!
ReplyDeleteI saw some pictures of the President on Iowa today - an even bigger crowd. When I look at pictures of Obama, I see America in the crowds. I can't say the same for Romney/GOP events.

Everything you think you know about it is wrong: stimulus saved the US economy, and only Republicans stopped it working better
ReplyDelete...But, in exhaustive detail, Grunwald points out how everything you think you know about the stimulus is wrong. While the Recovery Act created 2.5 million jobs, stopped the country's economic hemorrhaging and launched a weak recovery, its long-term, transformative impact is the real story.
According to Grunwald, the stimulus measure was "the biggest and most transformative energy bill in history", and "the biggest and most transformative education reform bill since the Great Society". It was also a "transformative healthcare bill", the "biggest foray into industrial policy since FDR", the "biggest expansion of antipoverty initiatives since Lyndon Johnson", and – ironically, for a president oft-accused of raising taxes – the "biggest middle-class tax cut since Reagan". It rebuilt bridges and paved roads; weatherized and retrofitted homes; and spurred the move toward high-speed rail.
It pumped an extraordinary $90bn into the clean energy industry, propelled the US battery industry and expanded rural broadband adoption. It revamped the country's unemployment system, tackled the challenges of homelessness, began the digitizing of millions of health records, and fostered education reform through the innovative Race To The Top program. It doubled renewable power generation, significantly expanded solar production and basically birthed the country's transition to a low-carbon economy.
In short, while Republicans blast the bill as socialist government spending run amok, the stimulus has, in just a few years, transformed America and laid the foundation for future economic growth. To paraphrase Vice-president Biden, that's "a big fucking deal". So, the question is: why is the first we're hearing about it?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/aug/27/why-obama-should-run-success-stimulus
The stimulous kept my company and it's 187 employees working, bualso gave us the cushion to t it keep all our present employees and get our construction co. to be cert. as a "green build" Co.
DeleteI owe President Obama a few hugs :)
I owe him quite a few hugs myself. My mom's on medicare and, among other things, her dyalysis treatments AND medications are now covered. One medication (649 a month) she needs wasn't covered before and is now.
DeleteI sent my first born to College with the help of pell grants and a partial scholarship. She's on our health coverage, which is a huge relief.
The stimulus gave our local business area a huge boost, along with a new train station, roads, bridges and an overpass. New home construction is edging up for the first time in years.
And that's not on campus. U of VA denied the Obama campaign an on campus location dues to costs for security and potential disruption to first week of classes.
ReplyDeleteFeel the love!!
ReplyDeleteAnd whether President Obama has the funds to last in October depends on us.
A friend who lives near Charlottesville said that the local press did not give the event very much coverage. Sure looked like an amazing and happy crowd to me, and on a warm August day.
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
Those pics are so heartwarming! I see men and women, old and young, suits and t-shirts, a very diverse crowd... Black, White, Asian, Latino (and not just one or two of each "minority"). It's a microchasm of the US -- these are "my" people!
ReplyDeleteHere's to 4 more years! Obama/Biden 2012!
I agree! And the looks on their faces are also heartwarming: love and respect, as opposed to anger and hate.
DeleteI thought the GOP would take some notes over the past 5 or so years, but they STILL don't get it. They don't realize that while, yes, you can mobilize a group of people with the power of hate, but you also turn a lot of people off when you do that.
ReplyDeleteLet's get the vote out for our President, people. We love him, and we want him reelected.
ReplyDeleteAnd to help that, perhaps organize events to help those caught in voting lines to enjoy themselves, to not be hungry or thirsty while they wait, and wait and wait. Start a sing-a-long, or provide a mime act. Pass out cookies. IN addition to the regular stuff of knocking on doors, providing rides, etc.
DeleteSeriously, Anon 3:06, if you've got time, energy or money to spare, please put it to work helping to GOTV. Call, canvass, enter data, give rides to the polls, help with voter IDs.
DeleteBut in the name of all that's holy, DO NOT INFLICT MIMES or bad music or cookies on voters waiting to vote--unless your intention is to have people not vote . . .
When voters are in line, all they need is the assurance that they will be allowed to vote, and there won't be any early closing of the polls or other illegal tactics. And yes, there's an app for reporting that and those who support our President will be doing that.
I live in NH and was fortunate enough to see my president in Windham, NH a few weeks ago. An event like that takes your whole day, car in line at 0730, bomb sniffing dogs checking every car, standing in line for hours waiting. Then it was into the high school gym for hours more to wait, it must have been more than 90 in that gym, packed full, and every face was beaming! People were friendly and helpful while waiting. When he spoke, I can assure you that there was no enthusiasm gap! Like I said, I felt fortunate to be there. Many folks had come from Massachusetts, which is NOT Romney country, I always got the impression that they felt a bit scammed by him. I was in the front of the crowd, so I was able to make my way to the rope line when he was finished speaking. He made time to make contact with as many people as possible. I got a quick handshake and when I said "thank you" to him, I got THAT SMILE. Incredible. I have started volunteering for his campaign, I give an hour or two once a week entering data from the canvassers. I recommend that anyone interested in really helping, just contact your local Obama 2012 office and show up. Every little bit helps.
ReplyDeleteLucky, lucky you to be there and get a hand shake.
DeleteDue to the media you'd think that President Obama and VP Biden had no following and that he was going to lose the upcoming election! Assholes!
ReplyDeleteI truly suspect differently in spite of what the liars Romney and Ryan) project to the USA. I have numerous Republican friends (yea, grew up w/them and worked throughout my career w/them!) and they absolutely hate President Obama. Didn't idiot Sarah Palin project the 'hate' word so horribly into politics four plus years ago?
I LOVE the Obamas and the Bidens and the people that are serving in their Administration. They are to be thanked exclusively!!!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Obama 2012!
ReplyDeleteWhen they panned the camera during the RNC, there were many empty seats in the background. There were photo ops where Romney had a stadium behind him with so few people, they put a huge american flag behind him to block it.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the reception our President gets is heartwarming, it only makes me want to work harder to get out the vote.
My child attends ISU in Ames, Iowa and was able to obtaine one of only 6,000 tickets available for people to get. It was quite and experience and seemed to be well received.
