On a day where temperatures reached 84 degrees, the President still managed to attract a crowd that numbered close to 7,500.
You know seeing these pictures really makes me hopeful that even with ALL of the bullshit that the GOP is throwing at the voters of America, that they will STILL do the right thing for this country.

DeleteIf it's 84 degrees and humid it's miserable. It's still darn hot to stand in the sun for any length of time. Still, I also would have shown up and waited to see President Obama, I'd just dress for the occasion and have lots of ice water nearby and wrap ice packs around my neck. Works beautifully.

ReplyDeleteHey,it was in the mid to upper 90's in Fort Collins, Colorado on Tuesday, and the president attracted a crowd of 13,000 there.
I've seen similar crowds in photos for Romney (on the FB page of friends :{.) I've wondered if they've been photoshopped, so I wonder if this has been too?

What if bakers & entertainers (amateur or otherwise) go to the polls and sing and perform NON-PARTISAN, NON-POLITICAL skits & songs to entertain the people waiting in line and support their effort to be heard, as well as pass out cookies and cakes and trail mix, etc. I live in a blue, blue, blue state so probably not worth much around here, but there's a swing state a few hours from me. Hmmmm. Might even send a message to the voter suppressors that their efforts not only didn't work, they backfired.
That's one of the craziest comments that I have ever read on here....and I've been reading IM for 3+ years.

I am so glad the convention is over...let all the lies really sink in. The Voter ID laws are getting thrown out and the GOP congress wannabes are running away from Lyin Ryan's budget. I hope Obama has enough money to last in Oct when you know he is gonna be slammed. I just wish the IRS moved faster on Rove's GPS and those other so called non-political groups that are tax exempt and are able to hide their donors. Now that would be something having his krap exposed.

Ask military members and their families if they are better off without multiple tours to Iraq and painful family separations. Ask veterans if they are better off with the educational opportunities offered by the New GI bill of Rights. Ask the vets who were excluded from earned veterans' care by the policies of the unmentionable previous president. Ask the spouses who have found it easier to transfer professional credentials to new duty station states due to the work of Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. Ask the formerly homeless vets who have been the beneficiaries of another Obama promise kept. And, stealthily of course, no sense stirring up the bigots, ask the thousands of gay and lesbian servicemen if they are better off not having to live a lie.
Mr. Romney, you raised the canard of an Obama "apology tour" that never happened and said you were going on a jobs tour. Hold that thought. You need to go on another tour first, a tour to apologize to our troops and our veterans for snubbing them so egregiously.
Mr. Romney, you have not the faintest idea of the struggles that military members and their families face. And you do not understand that their lives are much better than four years ago. You have not experienced anything like the trauma of war and its aftermath. Before you can claim to be qualified as Commander in Chief you need to talk to the troops and the vets and listen to their stories, their hopes and their fears and ask your sidekick to do the same.

While the Recovery Act created 2.5 million jobs, stopped the country's economic hemorrhaging and launched a weak recovery, its long-term, transformative impact is the real story.
According to Grunwald, the stimulus measure was "the biggest and most transformative energy bill in history", and "the biggest and most transformative education reform bill since the Great Society". It was also a "transformative healthcare bill", the "biggest foray into industrial policy since FDR", the "biggest expansion of antipoverty initiatives since Lyndon Johnson", and – ironically, for a president oft-accused of raising taxes – the "biggest middle-class tax cut since Reagan". I owe him quite a few hugs myself. My mom's on medicare and, among other things, her dyalysis treatments AND medications are now covered. One medication (649 a month) she needs wasn't covered before and is now.
DeleteI sent my first born to College with the help of pell grants and a partial scholarship. She's on our health coverage, which is a huge relief.
The stimulus gave our local business area a huge boost, along with a new train station, roads, bridges and an overpass. New home construction is edging up for the first time in years.
And that's not on campus. U of VA denied the Obama campaign an on campus location dues to costs for security and potential disruption to first week of classes.

Those pics are so heartwarming! I see men and women, old and young, suits and t-shirts, a very diverse crowd... Black, White, Asian, Latino (and not just one or two of each "minority"). It's a microchasm of the US -- these are "my" people!

When voters are in line, all they need is the assurance that they will be allowed to vote, and there won't be any early closing of the polls or other illegal tactics. And yes, there's an app for reporting that and those who support our President will be doing that.
I live in NH and was fortunate enough to see my president in Windham, NH a few weeks ago. An event like that takes your whole day, car in line at 0730, bomb sniffing dogs checking every car, standing in line for hours waiting. Then it was into the high school gym for hours more to wait, it must have been more than 90 in that gym, packed full, and every face was beaming! People were friendly and helpful while waiting. When he spoke, I can assure you that there was no enthusiasm gap! Like I said, I felt fortunate to be there. Many folks had come from Massachusetts, which is NOT Romney country, I always got the impression that they felt a bit scammed by him. I was in the front of the crowd, so I was able to make my way to the rope line when he was finished speaking. He made time to make contact with as many people as possible. I got a quick handshake and when I said "thank you" to him, I got THAT SMILE. Incredible. I have started volunteering for his campaign, I give an hour or two once a week entering data from the canvassers. I recommend that anyone interested in really helping, just contact your local Obama 2012 office and show up. Every little bit helps.

ReplyDeleteWhen they panned the camera during the RNC, there were many empty seats in the background. There were photo ops where Romney had a stadium behind him with so few people, they put a huge american flag behind him to block it.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the reception our President gets is heartwarming, it only makes me want to work harder to get out the vote.
My child attends ISU in Ames, Iowa and was able to obtaine one of only 6,000 tickets available for people to get. It was quite and experience and seemed to be well received.
