There were so many great clips from last week's Daily Show that I literally could not include them all. However this brilliant segment from Samantha Bee simply cannot be missed.

Okay THAT clip alone should win this show its next Emmy.

This was my daughter's favorite. For some reason, the younger girls think the Republicans just don't want women to have any rights. Gee, I wonder what gives them that idea?

Mustsee video of Paul Ryan and wife dismissive of a consituent's concern about wages at a parade on Labor Day 2011. Young man asks if he needs to work at China's wages - Paul Ryan asks him if he wants a piece of candy.

take the time to watch this...
every one who knows a young person will hear them in the young man's plea...
and then, 'would you like a piece of candy?' and Ryan's wife with her manufactured Stepford grin...

Wow, a piece of candy and a packer's schedule?? Did he know he was being filmed? Seriously, this is how to connect to the young voters and get them interested in voting.

  4. As with the surprising (to me) misconception :-) that disappointed Hillary fans would all gravitate to Sarah Palin, the Repugs seem to think that if they succeed in making choice (abortion) illegal, that it will go away.

History tells us otherwise. For much of our history, abortion has been illegal, almost impossible, and risky. Nevertheless, women have attempted it out of their desperate insistence on making THEIR choice prevail. Even when unsafe and illegal. Even Mitt's relative Ann Keenan, when her Mormon world dictated otherwise.

So let's say the anti-women initiatives are all legalized. Women will still make their own choices, only now illegally and at risk of death. Like Ann Keenan did.

Precisely. A desperate woman who doesn't want to be pregnant will not remain pregnant just because it's the wish of someone who won't have to be responsible for that child once it's here.

A few wackos did "switch" to Sarah Palin, meaning they weren't real Hilary supporters to begin with. You cannot reconcile Hilary with Sarah Palin. Other than the fact they are both women, pretty much all other details are polar opposite.

At this point, anybody who is a Sarah Palin fan is basically mentally and/or emotionaly ill.

I watched the night it aired and I know I drove my husband crazy asking "Are they listening to themselves? People really can't be this cognitively dissonant, can they? Is this for real?"

Yes, they CAN have that cognitive dissonance. The whole Republican mindset is "Right for me but not for THEE". They are special, you see, better than everyone else.

You may as well feel sorry for Mittens after Dirty Harry stole his thunder. To make it worse after the huge mystery guest build up what does he get? Romney cuts him out of the RNC2012 video to advertise what a great Republican achievement.

You don't mess with Clint Eastwood but Romney threw him under the bus. I heard it was Romney's idea to have him do that dumb skit. Romney, the jerk, is throwing an 82 year old man under the bus. In this situation some would think the President is the one to treat a disgraced old man like garbage. No, it is just the opposite. ROMNEY TREATS EASTWOOD WORSE THAN TOILET SCUM.

Oh the hypocrisy! Is the entire population of the GOP unself-aware? My favorite one is, "This is America! You're allowed to make your own choices!" Well, unless you're a pregnant woman.

The hypocrisy is blatant but the way she leads them on with the personal freedom bit is just priceless. Only one woman seemed to have moment where she realized the idiocy of what she said.

This is what happens when critical thinking is frowned upon. It is completely lost on these folks who tout individual freedoms and choices, that they refuse to endow those rights to pregnant girls and women.

The cover of in Touch Weekly displayed the benefits of this very privilege in featuring the Fertile Myrtle's, Bristol and Sarah.

OT, but was browsing around the web and ran across this little patriotic, interactive gem. It reminds me of the National Sarah Palin 4th of July Bridge March (or Hoveround Parade) that never happened, a few years back. All I can say is "oy vey"...I don't think it's satire:

BTW, the Samantha Bee segment is great, but I still loved Jon's take on "A Fistful of Awesome" and the fantasy Mayberry America that occupies the GOP's empty heads!

I always thought that Republicans were amazingly stupid. Can those delegates not hear themselves speak? It's all about choice and individual liberty???? Then that means that they are all "pro-choice"! You cannot have it both ways - lots of choice for Mitt Romney but not for women.

By the way, THIS is what you criticize the GOP For, yet don't criticize Axelrod OR Obama for the same behavior. This mini "rant" is from my super-liberal friend who works in public policy in DC.

"Yeah, I kind of think when I see stuff like that that these people believe (and I think there is a lot of evidence to support it) that the american public really just cannot understand (probably from lack of time or effort, not from stupidi
ty) political and economic issues, so they have to dumb it all down to positive spin talking points that somehow fall in like with what the status quo common sense is.

So they were talking about the debt, and Chris Wallace was doing a good job as a good conservative journalist getting his conservative talking points across and calling Axelrod out when he would not answer questions in any meaningful way. He kept talking about how Obama would "stabilize the deficit" and "get it below 3 percent of GPD" and Wallace was like "when are you going to deliver a balanced budget" and Axelrod would respond with "Romney has a 5 trillion tax cut plan that would force him to raise taxes on the middle class and add to the budget deficit and we are lowering the deficit to stabilize it at 3 percent or less of GDP" and wallace would respond "when are you going to deliver a balanced budget that's what needs to happen" then axelrod would respond with the exact same speech and around and around it would go.

I wanted to be like Axelrod stop. Let us break this cycle and just say what you really believe...the government running deficits is a GOOD thing. We need the government to run deficits, cause that grows the economy. In horrible economic times like this the deficits naturally need to be large and attempts to bring them under control will only stifle economic growth. Balanced budgets and budget surpluses are not good because that is government taking money out of the economy. However, while the economy improves you want to "stabilize" the year to year deficit at around 3 percent of GDP cause that will allow you to continue to grow the economy while paying down the total debt relative to overall GDP. That is the liberal/democratic position in this country. Let's own it for once because that is actually the responsible thing to do, and it is what is best for the country. (I will say I really really think the Republicans truly understand and believe this to be true as well, that deficits are good and we need them to grow the economy, which is why no republican plan is actually at all serious nor comes close to balancing the budget. Instead, the only use the deficit as a scare tactic to try and ram through spending cuts to social programs they don't like.

So...that is the conversation that annoyed me. And I am ending my political rant that people probably don't care to much about."

Oh and it's pretty telling how a group is reporting the number of teens who have their driver's licenses has plummeted. While it's true that the people who want a car will find a way to buy one, but it's telling that many seem indifferent.

A constitutional amendment outlawing abortion with no explicit exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

Repubs will change the language, no more abortion, they can soon just call it murder. They will need to build more private prisons and create more jobs to house all those women criminals and murderers. They can lighten up on the drug war and keep America the number one incarceration nation. Weathy wemen need not be concerned as they will have to resources to take care of any problems.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_incarceration_rate

"The United States has about 5 percent of the world's population, but we have 25 percent of the world's prisoners - we incarcerate a greater percentage of our population than any country on Earth" Michael Jacobson "The Price of Prisons," states that the cost of incarcerating one inmate in Fiscal 2010 was $31,307 per year. "In states like Connecticut, Washington state, New York, it's anywhere from $50,000 to $60,000"
A fiscally responsible team will crunch all the numbers and decide who to tax for these expenses.

Mittens is confusing. What is he the leader of? The Republican Party and the Republican Platform? He is an individual who can have a choice, so he does not agree with the platform. What happened to the days when people use to hash out issues? He gets a choice while leading a platform that doesn't allow all women a choice. Now it is all about deflecting and confusing and just out and out lying.
