68 Nobel prize winners endorse Obama's science policies.

Courtesy of American Progress:

The Center for American Progress Action Fund today received an open letter co-signed by 68 Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry, and medicine. The letter strongly endorses President Barack Obama’s science policies. “America’s economic future,” the letter begins, “depends on our ability to continue America’s proud legacy of discovery and invention.”

In the letter the Nobel Prize-winning scientists contrast President Obama’s programs to train young Americans in science and technology, strengthen science-based decisionmaking in government, and increase investments in science and innovation while Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s budget proposal would slash these investments. Indeed, according to the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) budget plan, which Gov. Romney endorsed, would invest fully one-quarter less in nondefense research and development compared to the president’s plan.

“The Nobelists’ commitment to a prosperous future built on innovation is in the finest spirit of the Founding Fathers and expresses a core American value,” said Jonathan D. Moreno, Editor-in-Chief of Science Progress Action and Senior Fellow at CAP Action. “In this time of economic recovery, we must keep our eye on the horizon by investing in the science, technology, education, and workforce we need to stay on the cutting edge and compete in a world economy where success is increasingly determined by our ability to out-invent and out-innovate our competitor nations.

THIS is why the Republicans are trying to destroy public education and defund scientific research. Because the smarter the populace, and the more they know about their reality, the less they are likely to take things on faith and to support the Republican party.

As evidenced by these highly educated individuals, when you reach a certain level of education, you simply cannot support a party that does not understand math, respect education, nor desire to expand knowledge of the world around us.

The GOP is a party that has demonstrated time and time again that they do not respect intelligence, they respect obedience.

Science and education will lead us forward (where have I heard that word lately?) and out of the Republican's dark ages they want us to regress to.

Seriously, Republican Christian conservatives would like the U.S. to be governed by the Bible. They want laws written and upheld according the what is written in the Bible.

If you are a female, if you are middle-lower class, if you are a minority, if you believe in science and education and you vote for Mitt Romney you are an idiot and you deserve what you'll get.

Mr G: thank you for posting this. I'm so glad to read it.

It contrasts perfectly with Romney's making a joke of global warning during the debate -- that Pres Obama intended to address rising sea levels. Romney expected a laugh and got a small one, while I watched with my jaw agape at that way too ignorant comment and reaction.

Well, just wait until we have more derechos and Katrinas and water shortages as well as floods and extremes of heat and cold -- except by then the task will be harder if not impossible.

So much is riding on this election.

Outstanding, President Obama! You are doing a great job and leading us in the right direction!

I detest the Republican Party and Romney and Ryan especially.

In order for the USA to continue moving FORWARD, get out and vote for OBAMA/BIDEN if you haven't already!

I've voted and it was a pleasure marking my ballot AGAIN for OBAMA/BIDEN!

Well, the economists like him too!

By a large margin they rate his overall economic plan more highly than Mr Romney’s, credit him with a better grasp of economics, and think him more likely to appoint a good economic team (see chart). They do not hold the perpetually disappointing recovery against him; half of respondents graded his record as good or very good, compared with just 5% who said that about George Bush in our poll four years ago.

    Science?
It's a scam, and the work of the devil.
Notice that the word doesn't even appear in the bible.
