Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey
I thought the part with the President was heartfelt and genuine, but the rest of it bothered me. This boy was too aware of the cameras on him, and it felt like his situation was being exploited. This one could backfire with some voters...
Although his reading is slow and a bit disjointed, this is typical of a child reading at this age since they are still decoding the written words. I thought the kid was fantastic. It certainly worked for me!
9:26 I was defending the video...I loved it and Ian. I was trying to refute the "...boy was too aware of the cameras on him..." I didn't think this at all, but thought his reading might have caused someone to think that. I am a democrat to the core and have been for 32 plus years. Try not to attack so quickly.
The real question is why did you donate to a billion dollar campaign when you don't have a steady paycheck? Most IM readers seem very intelligent people but I've yet to read any comments questioning the whole super pac crap and the candidate with the most money wins. Wouldn't be better if each candidate had a pre-set equal amount of dollars to go with? Dear Jeebus, Americans really ARE brainwashed tools.
Dear 9:13 -- that's what public financing of elections and other legislative efforts tried to to. The Roberts/Scalia court struck all those restrictions down with Citizens United last year. You can blame the "free speech" fat cats for the out-of-control spending.
Yup, it could backfire badly. But it's not all that important anyway because Mitt is going to remind him: You said you would halve the deficit and you've doubled it! Can't wait!
Ian's mom here. We weren't acting. Ian struggled with reading because he's actually very shy. His dad couldn't appear fully because he's still active duty, just not deployed. Thanks, everyone :) he was grateful for this opportunity. He genuinely hates war all together and feels the civilian casualties are the worst part of all.
Pleases past the Kleenex
ReplyDeleteYup, need Kleenex now. BRB.

DeleteThe Dem voters are an intelligent lot, we don't think the way you do.
Your comment is ridiculous. Don't bring that negativity here.

DeleteThat was perfect. I was having a pity party day, and that helped me snap out of it!
ReplyDeleteFortunately I had a highly absorbent cloth table napkin already in my lap... *snif*
ReplyDeleteVery sweet. And yes, the right-wingers will try and exploit this little boy, but we know the truth. It's heartfelt and poignant.
ReplyDeleteHow in the hell do think they can exploit this? Get your mind out of the negative.
DeleteI'm not a troll, I've donated five times even though I don't have a steady paycheck - but why didn't the father appear in this piece?
ReplyDeletehe's probably still in uniform and this is a political ad
DeleteI would think that the father elected not to be on camera. His son wrote the letter and he probably wanted the focus on him.

Perhaps he wanted the attention to be only on his son, who is the one who wrote that sweet letter.

Soldiers in uniform cannot appear in politcal ads.
ReplyDeleteI think that he would have been in the ad, except that you can't have soldiers in uniform in a political ad.

DeleteTotally staged. Bad actors all of 'em.
ReplyDeleteThis is fucking sick.

Yep, this made me tear up.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ian.
"...need some Kleenex..."
ReplyDeleteI did. That's a good story, one of thousands. Too many aren't as happy in their endings.
Get our soldiers out of Afghanistan ahead of schedule.
Jesus, that's powerful stuff.
