When Mitt Romney loses he plans on blaming the "liberal media." However before you blame something, you have to make sure it actually exists..

"I was the perfect candidate, but the media kept asking me all of those freaking questions!"
Courtesy of the New York Times:

On Sunday, Mr. Romney’s running mate, Representative Paul D. Ryan, got right to the point.

“It goes without saying that there is definitely media bias,” Mr. Ryan told “Fox News Sunday.” “I think most people in the mainstream media are left of center and, therefore, they want a very left-of-center president versus a conservative president like Mitt Romney.”

And ostensibly tendentious coverage was cited last Wednesday in a letter addressed to the “Biased News Media” and sponsored by the Media Research Center, which defines its mission as “holding the liberal media accountable for shamelessly advancing a left-wing agenda.” The letter said in part: “This election year, so much of the broadcast networks, their cable counterparts and the major establishment print media are out of control with a deliberate and unmistakable leftist agenda.”

It was signed by conservative royalty, including Brent Bozell, Gary Bauer, Ed Meese, Tony Perkins, Rush Limbaugh and Richard Viguerie. It included a list of chronic offenses and concluded, “It is time the American people turn you who are offending off, once and for all. You have betrayed their trust.”

The mainstream media are frequently indicted suspects when the rink tilts against conservative causes. But it seems worth pulling apart that notion, especially in a landscape where ownership of the megaphone is increasingly up for grabs.

The reporter, David Carr, goes on to point out exactly how muhc of this so-called "liberal media" is in fact anything but.

Even if legacy media still maintained some kind of death grip on American consciousness, it would be hard to claim that the biggest players in those industries are peddling liberal theology.

Think about it. What is the No. 1 newspaper in America by circulation? Why, that would be The Wall Street Journal, a bastion of conservative values on its editorial pages and hardly a suspect when it comes to lefty news coverage. (Though it’s worth pointing out that the paper has published some very tough coverage of Mr. Romney.)

What about radio? Three of the top five radio broadcasters — Mr. Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and the recently departed Michael Savage — have outdrawn NPR’s morning and evening programs by a wide margin. In cable television, Fox News continues to pummel the competition.

Many Republicans see bias lurking in every live shot, but the growing hegemony of conservative voices makes manufacturing a partisan conspiracy a practical impossibility.

Not only THAT but even the self described liberal media are often owned by corporations which benefit mightily when Republicans are in power. (For instance MSNBC is owned by corporate powerhouse General Electric.) We are told that the corporations do not involve themselves in editorial decisions, but I think we all know that there has to be some pressure applied from on high once in a while. (The sudden demise of Keith Olbermann's career springs to mind as a prime example.)

No Mitt the Twit and the Republican party will undoubtedly do their best to make the flame out of this gaffe riddled campaign somebody else's fault, but in fact I think that behind the scenes they will have to admit to themselves that their candidate was a joke.

And a bad joke at that. One that nobody laughed along with, but that EVERYBODY openly mocked.

And the fact that he was chosen, so soon after the debacle that was Sarah Palin, also means that the bad joke is spreading, and now threatens to diminish what is left of the Grand Old Party's badly damaged reputation. Soon NOBODY will take them seriously as a legitimate political party.

Well I don't know about anybody else, but THAT certainly cracks me up!

Spot on, Gryph! Just remember, iMers, it's not over yet. After 2000, does anyone trust elections? The GOP will try every nasty trick in the book if they think they're losing.

I thought MSNBC was bought out by Comcast about a year before KO "left"?

Cracks me up to hear "libril media bias" when all these stations are owned by RWNJ big Corps!

But yes blogs, now that is a different story and since most people don't watch teevee due to its RW Con bias blogs rule!

  2. And then there's that nasty fact that, when you look closely at the policies President Obama actually advocates (as opposed to the zombie lie straw men that Rush, Sean, Tony, Gary and their sock puppets Mitt and Paul attribute to him) he comes out as a center-right politician. But of course the truth isn't an element of the Koch Teabagger crowd.

OT, and don't want to hijack the thread, but here's the latest reason why "Twinkletoes" probably will make it until the last gasp of DWTS (just posted about an hour ago from a Sea commenter):

"Voting on [Sarah's] Facebook for Bristol is still open 3 more hours until 11AM EST/8AM Pacific Time. If you log off, then on again, you can vote 12 times using the same FB name and as many times as you want."

Now...do these numbnuts still want to say that Libruls are lyin', cheatin' scum?

This thread is not about Bristol, so why do you drag her into it?

Yeah, the cheating and rigging the votes has begun in full force. Gives her more chances to show off her lack of talent.

The fact that Mitt is not a culture warrior but still manages to have no ability to appeal to the Independents and lost his last chance at the White House will only serve as a wake up call to the so sorry state of the Republican Party that is today.

George Will, not Rush Limbaugh. Barry Goldwater, not Rick Santorum. Lisa Murkowski, not Sarah Palin.

The GOP will have to re-examine itself, and realize, the grown-ups have left the building and it's time to get them back for a measured, healthy check and balance to the liberal agenda.

Doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to discern who'll be the adult in the room at tomorrow's debate. President Obama has already said "issues," and Romney says "zings." It's all they've got.

    Dear ABC:

Re: Dancing with the Stars Television Program

Not that I really give a shit personally, but having the ability to game 50% of their score by 3rd party "voters" rigging the scores makes this "competition" a complete farce. It currently rewards neither the competitors who are most talented nor those who work the hardest to improve. It merely rewards those lesser competitors who are linked to a network of biased individuals who are willing to cheat on behalf of an individual on the show. This undermines not only the integrity of the competition but also the integrity of advertising sponsors and the network itself.

Currently, this situation is most prevalent in the case where one of the “stars” is a relative of a recently failed politician who still has a skeleton organization of volunteers already trained to systematically skew the results of on-line polling via unethical practices of multiple voting and other deceptive representations.

Sure, ABC is able to prime the pump and collect important information on the voters through their social media and tracking cookies placed on hard drives all across America by "allowing" viewers to be a part of a completely rigged and unethical voting process.

Perhaps the value of the data collected is more valuable than the brand equity that is eroded in the short-run, but managing operations in such a crass, cynical manner which is averse to all of our society's values of rewarding fairness, honesty, hard work, and celebrating exceptional skill development--- the Voters most influencing the score results are likely not the most valuable in terms of purchasing metrics that advertisers seek to include in their reach nor in value of the audience represented on the network's advertising card.
    .
    .
    .

This is a poor strategy for long-term brand development and although it appears to be successful in the present, the opportunity cost associated with running this type of shoddy operation can only be described as a brand-killer over the long haul, and it fails to maximize profits and brand equity by limiting the demographic segment.

In particular, your more intelligent consumer, and thus affluent, in most cases, is repelled by brands which have a negative affiliation with such dishonest practices. If you wait until the masses tell you via boycott, the result might be dear air time where an advertising message was inserted the previous day.

    .
    .
    .
If you are unfamiliar with a brand which was white-hot just 4 years ago but is now gasping for the oxygen needed to keep even a minimal flame, examine the case of Sarah Palin, who is, in fact, dragging down the current value of your franchise.

  10. If anyone reading is from our nation's wonderful Dairy State, please send Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan a block of cheese to go with their WHINE.

Ugh. Their victim mentality is past the point of being irritating; it is now simply boring.

I was a Republican but I NEVER sat at the table with these pitiful, whiny faux-victims. They are beyond pitiful.

  12. See liberal bias at every turn is spot on.

I understand their newest thing is now scrubbing the polls of their liberal bias. When you do that, suddenly Obama and Rmoney are neck and neck.

    Really?

To me it reeks of the voter purging their attempting with I.D. laws, etc.

The only way they can win is to cheat and they are in a constant state of denial about their clown prince.

Talk about failure to take responsibility! Thy name is the Republican Party.

A headline in the Navelgazing blog at the OC Weekly reported yesterday that “Christian legal eagles” vow to fight a new California law which protects minors from abuse by professional mental-health therapists.
The blog post cites a single antigay group, the Pacific Justice Institute, which it describes as a “Christian legal defense organization.”

It kills me every time they call the media liberal: This propaganda they have going and that too many believe. This only one or two genuine liberal tv oases on television: Current TV and MSNBC. You can find rather more beacons of common sense on the internet - thank goodness.

Of course it's liberal media bias, what else can account for Mitt's entire political career? What liberal bias? Seriously, the network news is sugar coated fluff and pablum, the formula always includes a "feel good" segment.
We just had a post that proved the sunday shows, especially MTP are more centrist and biased to the right. So what's left?

Fox News, Mitt's "go to" channel, purports itself as "news" when it's far right wing propaganda and commentary. CNN, with few exceptions, is the same format.

Ok, what's left? Msnbc and Current. They lean left, but when the news is reported, it's usually more toward the center. The commentary is backed up with facts, and presented as commentary, not news.

You basically make your choice of news source, but to some progressives, msnbc isn't "left" enough.

The irony of it all, is President Obama's entire first term addressed a lot of left and center left issues, yet he's moved closer to the center than Romney.
