Is it possible to smell desperation coming off of a political advertisement?

This is the new ad that the Romney campaign has playing right now in Ohio, a state that either he is just behind President Obama, or tied with President Obama, depending on which poll you read.

Based on the ad above, and the incredible amount of bullshit that it contains, the Romney campaign is clearly VERY concerned.

There is a lot in the ad to criticize, but perhaps the MOST egregious is the charge that Chrysler is sending its Jeep manufacturing jobs over to China. Which so incensed the Vice President of Communications that he spoke out to set the record straight:

Gualberto Ranieri, Chrysler’s vice president of communications, criticized those stories Thursday even before Romney made his comments.

“Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China,” Ranieri said. “It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China, for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation.”

In fact, Chrysler is investing $500 million at its Toledo North Assembly Plant and plans to add 1,105 new workers by the third quarter of 2013 to build an all-new SUV that will replace the Jeep Liberty.

A spokesperson for the Romney campaign declined to comment

So did you get that? Even BEFORE Romney used this talking point during his campaign stops, and before this ad was put together, it had already been called out by Chrysler. Yet the Romney campaign, hoping that nobody knew it was a lie, used it anyway.

Like I said, does anybody else smell desperation from this ad? Because I certainly do.

Not exactly desperation, more like the familiar stench of ineptitude that characterized earlier times in the disgraceful Romney campaign. Who can forget the big launch of their app featuring a misspelling of the word America? All the dumb shit Mitt said on his European tour? The fact that he painted his face dark orange in an attempt to win the Latino vote? I was beginning to fear that they got their shit together. I, for one, welcome the return of dumb mistakes to the Romney campaign!

    Re-elect President Obama

A second term for President BARACK OBAMA would be a better outcome for Ohio, Michigan, and the rest of the country — and would offer more hopeful prospects for the next four years — than would his replacement by his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney. The Blade recommends the President’s re-election.

During his administration, President Obama has provided pragmatic, steady, centrist leadership that has served the nation well. He has dealt effectively with economic recession at home and turmoil abroad, much of which he inherited from his predecessor. The stimulus he promoted — along with the auto and bank bailouts — helped prevent the recession from becoming a depression.

Mr. Romney blames what he calls the still-dismal state of the national economy on the President’s inept stewardship. The challenger says his experience as a business executive would enable him to slash the federal deficit, create 12 million jobs, restore fiscal stability, and accelerate economic recovery.

In fact, Ohio’s current unemployment rate is 7 percent — nearly one-fifth lower than it was when the President was inaugurated in January, 2009. Nationally, the jobless rate has dropped substantially over the past year and also is lower than when Mr. Obama took office.

Jobless rates are still too high. But imagine what the economies of Ohio and Michigan would look like today if Mr. Obama had not presided over the federal rescue of Chrysler and General Motors as they emerged from bankruptcy in 2009.

That rescue was vital to Ohio, which depends on the auto industry for 850,000 jobs — one of every eight. It has preserved and created assembly and parts production jobs in Toledo and across the state.

Without it, Chrysler and GM likely would have gone out of business and the domestic industry and supply chain would have collapsed, taking Ford with them. Instead, U.S. automakers now are preparing to achieve huge gains in the fuel efficiency of their cars and trucks.

The auto bailouts began under a Republican president, George W. Bush, but Mr. Romney has continued to oppose them. In last week’s debate, he claimed disingenuously that he would have supported federal “guarantees” of private investment in the automakers.

But in the depths of the Great Recession, no such investment was forthcoming. A high-powered businessman — and the son of a Detroit auto CEO who plays up his Michigan roots — might be expected to acknowledge that.

    Reform and invest

President Obama’s health-care reform is poised to insure tens of millions of Americans who now lack medical coverage, while reducing the federal deficit. The financial reforms he guided into law are curbing the abuses on Wall Street that contributed greatly to the national and global economic meltdown.

As he seeks to limit spending, Mr. Obama understands the economic importance of results-based investment in such things as alternative energy, transportation, job training, and infrastructure repair. His Race to the Top school reform program and emphasis on community colleges are prescriptions to ensure there will be enough workers to fill high-skill jobs. His agenda contrasts with that of Mr. Romney, for whom tax cuts — especially for the rich — are an all-purpose nostrum.

In foreign affairs, the President has ended one war begun by his predecessor in Iraq, and is overseeing an orderly troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. He ordered the attack that killed Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 2001 terror attacks on this country.

Mr. Obama assembled the international coalition that helped free Libya from four decades of Moammar Gadhafi’s tyranny, without putting U.S. troops in harm’s way. The tough economic sanctions Mr. Obama and U.S. allies have imposed on Iran offer the prospect of forcing that country to give up its development of nuclear weapons.

In challenging the President’s first-term record, Mr. Romney has displayed a chronic eagerness to say anything he thinks will win him the support of the audience he is addressing at the moment. That raises the question of what he truly believes: He has changed positions so often on so many basic issues — health care, women’s rights, government regulation — that it seems his only fixed principle is his own advancement.

Mr. Romney has largely repudiated his moderate record as governor of Massachusetts. The Obamacare that he condemns is based on his own effective health-reform program.

His economic “plan” consists of popular but conflicting imperatives: cut tax rates by 20 percent, increase military spending while exercising budget austerity elsewhere, reduce the deficit without raising revenue. He refuses to resolve these contradictions, other than to pledge to close tax “loopholes” and eliminate deductions he won’t identify. His top-down approach would shift tax burdens from the nation’s wealthiest Americans to the middle class.

I can smell the desperation in this ad, but does it equal votes for Obama? That's my main concern. These Rethugs stick together, folks, and they will show up in droves on Nov. 6.

I hope the GOP never recovers from this election. To put out candidates who lie, who think women are not smart enough to decide when to have children, who think rape is a joke, who want to pull the rug out from social and medical programs that work and help and that WE PAID for, to demonize the unions that insure a middle class, to demonize teachers and underfund schools to prove that they can't work, to put religion into government...this party has become the party of hate and greed. Whenever they say Obama has 'divided us,' I just shake my head. It is the GOP who refuses to give any help to our vets, who starts more war, who bullies and lies and will do anything to keep the rich white men in power. Disgusting. Despicable. UnAmerican.

I really believe Romney thinks that he has the election already won. I live in Jax, FL and have already gotten 2 phone calls about a Romney victory rally on Oct 31. Note that this is before the election.

If there is anyone reading this blog that lives in a swing state, please go out and vote for Obama because this arrogance simply disgusts me.

To quote a poster on HuffPo:

"People should be clear on what will happen when and if Romney gets elected.

The state of Massachusetts raised $500 million in new revenue during Romney’s first year in office from fees, more than any other state surveyed. Romney proposed 33 new fees along with increases in 57 existing fees, resulting in higher costs for birth certificates, new car purchases, driver’s learning permits, firearms permits, professional licenses, and billboards advertising, as well as for many state services. He also increased state gas tax, generating about $60 million per year in additional revenue. Many of the fees posed a hardship on those who could least afford them, such as fees for the state to provide certification of blindness and a photo identification card for the blind. The proposal also called for a $50 fee for tuberculosis tests and a $400 fee for those who tested positive. The cost of putting a loved one in a nursing home was increased 8 times by Romney.

Massachusetts Northeastern University economist Andrew Sum, who has researched Romney's record, said the state lagged the U.S. average during that period in job creation, economic growth and wage increases. As a strict labor market economist looking at the record, 'Massachusetts did very poorly during the Romney years,' he said. 'On every measure you've got, the state was a substantial under-performer.'"

Chris Hayes had a discussion about this on "Up" awhile back. Thanks for the link, it shows what a Romney boasts as "Business Experience" and his "job creation" creds are a lie.

I just saw Rachel Maddow talking about this. It is outrageous that Romney told this lie in his speech last week. Despite being called out it is beyond outrageous they are playing these ads. Romney is resorting to scaring Ohio to vote for him setting up Obama to blame for the loss of more jobs to china.

The Romney campaign made a big mistake to malign Chrysler. I hope Romney and Ryan are tying a noose of lies around their necks.

With damage control, truth out there, maybe Romney will F himself losing big in Ohio.

OT My soninlaw ran the Marine Corps Marathon Sun. am in Washington DC. When his wife asked if he would run with the pace group I suggested if he wanted to be fast to run with Paul Ryan. We laughed like hyenas:)

Romney made an ass of himself about Libya. He is not presidential material IMO.

I honestly do not understand why ANY retiree would vote for Romney/Ryan due to their wanting to change Medicare and put retirees on a voucher system which the majority could not afford.

If they go w/Romeny they are uninformed idiots and I'll be one pissed off American!

Romney is projecting. He took the auto bailout $$$ and made millions while bankrupting Delphi and sending the remaining jobs to China.

He busted the UAW and left NO jobs.

Beside that, this ad is just pathetic! Has anyone seen so many of these old cars on the road in such great numbers lately?
Chrysler struggled for years, was sold to the Germans, who struggled to redesign the cars and re-brand the company. Now the Italian's "Fiat" division has taken the brand and totally overhauled the image and quality, build it here in the US, and I'm glad they called Mitt out on this "Jeep" lie.

I smell bull shit in this ad, and the people buying into it smell fertilizer.

"Obama took the auto industry into bankruptcy."

Is this NOT what Bishop Romney has been claiming was the successful idea that President Obama stole from him for the past year? The man is not "two-faced", he's "poly-faced". It comes from the long pure lines of polygamy in the family.
