Courtesy of The Phoenix:
Hey, I know about that binder! And guess what -- Mitt Romney was lying about it.
What actually happened was that in 2002 -- prior to the election, not even knowing yet whether it would be a Republican or Democratic administration -- a bipartisan group of women in Massachusetts formed MassGAP to address the problem of few women in senior leadership positions in state government. There were more than 40 organizations involved with the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus (also bipartisan) as the lead sponsor.
They did the research and put together the binder full of women qualified for all the different cabinet positions, agency heads, and authorities and commissions. They presented this binder to Governor Romney when he was elected.
I have written about this before, in various contexts; tonight I've checked with several people directly involved in the MassGAP effort who confirm that this history as I've just presented it is correct -- and that Romney's claim tonight, that he asked for such a study, is false.
Here is the video of Romney's "Binders full of women" comment.
This, of course, should come as no surprise to most of us who have been paying attention, since Romney lies like other people take a breath, But the fact that he made such a misogynistic statement, that is ALSO completely full of shit, is really quite an achievement, even for Mitt the Twit.
I find it hard to believe that Mitt would stoop so low as to actually tell a lie.
ReplyDeleteIn a civilized country, they have a better understanding of misogyny.

Imagine if Mittens had to deal with someone like Gillard on a regular basis!
From this month's Good Housekeeping interview with Ann Romney. What are Mitt's weaknesses?
Delete"I guess the thing I'd say is he had to learn to control his temper a bit when the children were young. In other situations, he's quick to flare, and I've seen him learn to control that, too. Most people have a very hard time changing their behavior, and I've been impressed that he's actually seen [his temper] as a weakness and worked on it."

Thanks for the links. I hate to admit that at first I was puzzled and not really getting it at all what "binders full of women" meant but now I'm starting to get it! Romney looks like a mean CEO in that picture.

Gov. Palin: Good Debate, Vote!, Thank You for Bristol
Posted on October 16 2012 - 11:55 PM - Posted by: Jasmine Velasco | Follow Jasmine on Twitter!
Governor Palin via Facebook:
We had a really good presidential debate tonight, and I hope every American is energized to get out and vote in three weeks. I also just want to give a quick thank you to everyone who supported Bristol & Mark. I know how much they appreciated the support. Now Bristol can head home just in time to enjoy Alaska’s new fallen snow!
Speaking of the debate, a few words come to mind:
Governor Romney: Strong. Confident. Visionary. Has a plan.
President Obama–Angry. Defensive. Petulant. Dour. Desperate (any time you have to bring up Big Bird and Planned Parenthood again, you are reaching).
What words come to your mind?
What comes to mind is that Sarah Palin has never seen the word "dour" before and doesn't know how to pronounce it. I think, therefore, that this is totally ghostwritten.
DeleteI heard no plan from Mr. Romney; my words for him are rude, gormless, vague, mysoginistic, liar.
The President: sincere, controlled, factual, thoughtful, intelligent, steady. A leader.
The words that come to my mind are: Sarah Paylin you are too stupid to come in out of the rain. That is an old saying that should be multiplied many times as it pertains to you.
DeleteI'm trying to be nice here, but Bristol had NO business even being on the DWTS show this year (or any other). She is not a dancer (more a plodder) has no personality and has not been taught how to be gracious. Of course one must be taught by a person who actually has grace and that surely is NOT you.
I will be so happy when you retreat to your dead lake and leave the rest of the world alone. Do you have no awareness of how much you are disliked and in fact ridiculed all over the world?
Poor Tri-g and Tripp. They really don't have a chance do they?
Dry up an blow away.
The picture with this post is so revealing. The true Romney. Who wants to see that face in the White House? And ANNtoinette Romney had a face on her like a can of worms after the debate. The Mittster is not going to get lucky for a long time. Mama was not pleased. "Stop it!" Stephanie Miller already has a song parody: Doors' Riders on the Storm = Binders Full of Jizz.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this picture was taken at the exact moment that Defense Attorney Obama got Candy Crowley to agree with him that he had immediately described the attacks in Libya as a terrorist attack.
DeletePlease proceed, Governor. With these three words, he neutralized that false talking point from Romney, and the fox news animated assholes.
That was a beautiful smackdown. Doesn't Mitt look like he just bit into a turd?
I love Stephanie Miller! She and her crew are too funny. If anyone out there hasn't had a chance to listen to or watch her program (where I'm at, it's on Current TV) find her! She's worth it.
DeleteCrackin Cnarlie, You nailed it!
DeleteI love this screen grab, reminds me of the one Gryphen often uses of the quitter - the same "whyle E Cayote" stunned look.
My gosh, that picture of Romney says a lot about him, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteUnderneath that gentle, caring, man of the people and of faith, 7/11 cooking-eating grandfather lies an evil man bent on lying and cheating his way to the White House.
It's 'his turn' by Heavenly Father, and nothing is going to stop him. Not truth and facts, that's for sure.
And I especially love the little outline of a smirk you can see on PBO's face!
Obama/Biden/All Democrats 2012!
Women are notoriously subservient in the Mormon religion. They are taught to obey men, marry young, obey men, have as many children as they possibly can, obey men, keep a clean home, obey men....etc. etc. etc. One need look no further than Mrs. Romney.
ReplyDeleteF'ing pig! It takes a narcissist to lay claim, stealing credit for what someone else did, grandiosely spin boasting it was his idea and his people did it. Then claim he is the one and only in the country to have accimplished this distinction. Barf
ReplyDeleteIt is no surprise the campaign staged showcasing the Ryan family volunteering at a kitchen. The pretense of supporting the 47% scrambling to deceive is worse then their beliefs dismissing people take no responsibility for their lives.
Teaching their children to make deceptive false impressions cheating to win is immoral. Yet again, uber religious extreme people who lie and cheat to win. The Palin, Romney and Ryan kids could form a
Pathalogical Liars club.
he looks like one mean mother fucker
ReplyDeleteI agree wholeheartedly and raise you a hundred fold.
Deletea picture worth a thousand words...
ReplyDeleteOh and how awesome was it that Mitt was able to accommodate women staffers so that they could get home in time to put dinner on the table!? Wow, what a guy.
He wouldn't know that they left early in that Romney was absent whole or in part 417 days of his 4 year term. 212 in year 4 alone.
DeleteI call that 'He quit but didn't tell anyone'. It's a Rethug thing you know!!
the original absentee governor
DeleteI thought this was better:
Delete"We’re going to have to have employers in the new economy [...] that are going to be so anxious to get good workers they’re going to be anxious to hire women."
OMG! the economy is so great! Guess I can take a chance on hiring a woman now!
what a fucking asshole.
Exactly, Marz!
DeleteOh yeah, us wimmen LOVE being home in time to make dinner. Remember Ann making Welsh Cakes on "The Today Show"?
Delete"Gosh, before they have children, they should think about getting married first"
Was the one that made me say WTF? Bishop Romney knows women, alright!
And women, of course, just have children by themselves. What about the men who contribute? Don't they count?
DeleteLike many cultish religions, the Mormons don't allow women in any position of leadership.
ReplyDeleteIt's painfully obvious from Romney's life, and his allegiance to his Mormon cult that he doesn't like women "teaching or having authority over men"
That quote happens to come straight from the misognyist character in the bible known as Paul of Tarsus. He wrote that as his private opinion in a letter to a young man called Timothy
Paul also wrote this nonsense to a man named Titus,
(Women are) "to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God"
Got that ladies? They want you barefoot, pregnant, and married to your Maytag.
These private opinions have now achieved superstar "word of god" status , and of course those hateful sentiments have been adopted by nearly all male Christian supremacists in evangelical circles.
If you had Romney's private thoughts revealed, he'd much rather work with men only.
He will have to accept some women in his cabinet if he gets elected, but you can be sure that he will not have a women VP, a woman chief of staff, and the big spots like Defense, State, Treasury, or Attorney General will only go to men.
AND if he can get away with it, they will ALL be Mormons.
DeleteThere's that wonderful photo again: Mitt Romney as Richard Nixon in his last days in the White House!
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
There being so much made of the President's 'style' in the first debate with regard to his head down, his smiling -- when is the media gonna talk to the issue of pics like that above and the eye brow raising over the Libya comment and many others.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't the 'angry black man' last night.
It was the 'extremely angry white man'.
How about the "extremely angry rich white man"?
DeleteWillard pulled out of his appearance on The View on Thursday earlier this week but his wife will still appear -- at least as far as I know as I haven't heard any different.
ReplyDeleteBut -- it should be interesting to hear the lies as ANNtoinette Romney spins the BS her husband spewed last night.
It was unbelievable offensive. He made it sound like he had to search far and wide and get a ton of people to help him find some women who could possible fill his cabinet positions.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the fact that he completely ignored (avoided) the topic of pay equity and reinforced his ideas about a woman's place. We all know Mormons believe women shouldn't work outside the home once they are married and that they should be married young.
Romney really showed himself last night. He's a liar, mean-spirited, anti-equal rights, unpresidential in every meaning of the word, and completely unqualified.
Love your comment, jk!
DeleteMitt is The Insensate.
(funny how close this name that I call him is to the name of his business in Freeport)
Do you think Romney has to send people to men's groups to find acceptable men to work for him. I also couldn't believe Romney saying women need special work hours because of taking care of their family. And aren't men lucky at work because they don't have to have special favors by their company to work around their family's needs.
ReplyDeleteRomney and Ryan are like Palin compelled to lie to make a bigger impression when they could tell the truth. Instead they may get an immediate win yet it is followed by a greater loss when demonstrable truth comes forth. They are mistaken that they are entitled to discredit and lie about other people aka use then abuse people.
ReplyDeleteOT I hope there is an opportunity in the next debate to slam Romney for exploiting the Libya tragedy to win the presidecy viewed by his own party as inappropriate. Another valid point is the potential
danger, his disregard of facts for self serving gain,
and wreckless choices in the midst of international
crisis. Contrast that me first to country and world
first. True leaders do not exploit tragic deaths, acts of terror
Damn straight!
DeleteMitt's a typical chickenshit Republican. There will be no need to bring up Libya at the next debate, because the President slammed Mitt's door shut on that subject last night. No way the chickenshit will approach that topic again.
True leaders, like President Obama, aren't afraid to man up and take responsibility for their actions!
Obama 2012!
The comments on the you tube video are hilarious! Mitt once again puts his foot in his mouth with another lie and creates nothing but fodder. I'm a female and I do find his remarks offensive but you really have to look at it with laughter because this idiot is just stupid and thinks he can bamboozle everyone when he speaks.

ReplyDeleteThat's the face he made a second before he tripped his daughter-in-law in that friendly race.
ReplyDeleteWho was Romney looking at with that evil death stare?
ReplyDeleteThat pic is SO evil looking.
His son's face is equally creepy!
ReplyDeleteJ is for JOSH ROMNEY
My feelings on Mitt Romney's sons have evolved from "My, what a handsome bunch of strapping men!" to "What a creepy bunch of mini-Mitts." Case in point: this is Josh Romney's actual face during the debate last night.
Yikes.

DeleteI can hardly wait.
Queen Ann needs to remember to never, ever, use the middle finger to scratch her face...ever! I absolutely loved that picture of her. And..yes..that picture of Josh is very revealing and very scary.
DeleteI know next to nothing about his sons. Is Josh married? Is he the one with twins born via surrogate? Where is his wife..home fixing dinner?
The debate was a thing of beauty. The President beat Mittens lies with the Truth and MRobme didn't know how to deal with the TRUTH. That pic is worth a 1000 words. It shows his rage at being bested and what a complete and utter Prick he is.
ReplyDeleteWhen righties try spreading the lie that Obama himself does not give women in his administration equal pay just point to this 2011 Annual Report to Congress on White House Staff:
ReplyDelete"Since 1995, the White House has been required to deliver a report to Congress listing the title and salary of every White House Office employee. Consistent with President Obama's commitment to transparency, this report is being publicly disclosed on our website as it is transmitted to Congress. In addition, this report also contains the title and salary details of administration officials who work at the Office of Policy Development, including the Domestic Policy Council and the National Economic Council -- along with White House Office employees.

Romney is a nasty fellow, the hate that sits just under the surface of this man scares the bjesus out of me. His economic plan will punish women just for asking for equality. He is total bs.
ReplyDeleteA genuinely nice man (like Pres. Obama) really does not need to keep trying to prove that he's a good guy. If your beliefs and your actions and your rhetoric say otherwise, nobody gives a damn if you're a good family man, churchgoer and father.
DeleteIf you didn't get to see the debate last night, be sure to watch the last two minutes on this video clip in which President Obama makes a compelling argument for re-election in his closing summation.
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/mhJS3jy5-AM
Romney has a nasty look and is a nasty man! I don't know why ANY woman would cast their vote for him as he does not support us in any way, shape or form.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama won the debate. MSNBC played the video clip showing President Obama saying the actual words 'act of terrorism' in the Rose Garden - standing beside Hillary Clinton. Romney lied about it and the moderator caught him doing so! Yea!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Mittens' penchant for panderiffic flip-floppery and prevarication is baked into his character and his campaign. How else to explain the unofficial motto of Team Mittens: "Lie! Lie! Lie!"?
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, that I was secretly hoping that Romney would slip and blurt out some comment along the lines of one of his fellow rightwingnuts, and call women "farm animals."
ReplyDeleteHis "binder" comment is having about the same effect!
Lets hope that even the millions of women who have bought into the idea that they are somehow not quite equal to men, find this to be just the item they need, to get wise to what the Republican Party has in store for them.
He never ran across any in his Harvard Law classes, or Harvard Business School?
DeleteIs his life so narrowly focussed on Mormons that he never noticed women of achievment -- or thought about them>

You know who probably liked and benefited the most from Romney's 'binders full of women' comment? Paul Ryan.
ReplyDeleteYep, took the heat and conversation off of his ridiculouly phony washing dishes photo-op.
Did you notice the sour expression on Queen Ann's face while the President was besting her disrespectful little hubby? Romney was quite unimpressive throughout the debate- just basically regurgitating the same old lies and distortions. And Her Majesty certainly seemed pissed! You can't win (or buy) them all, Mrs. Romney
ReplyDeleteI hope this face gets tons of media time...he is the boss that every person alive has hated all their lives!!! This is the real Robme, an evil, heartless man with the totally sub servant trophy stephford wife. Ugly, mean and totally entitled blow hole and you know he meant every single word he said in the 47%, its a shame you really can't bring in more of the Mormon thing as that just feeds into his core beliefs. If anyone could be possibly undecided at this point doesn't read or watch anything but Fox..his life record is out there and its horrible. I am looking forward to the shows in Freeport...that should open their eyes about how he makes his money and China.
ReplyDeleteSo, does anyone know if "Eskimo Annie Oakley" has weighed in on this controversy?? Cause, I'm sure the turd from the Tundra will want to get her mug back on on TV to offer her adoring public her thoughts on this uproar. I mean, it's been almost 24 hours since her offspring got the boot off DWTLosers and there she was, 'tearing' up in the audience.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting comment I heard today was that Romney looked like he was orchestrating a hostile takeover, and thinking back, it's so true.
ReplyDeleteThe whole"Binder full of women" comment was off-putting and seemed odd from the moment he said it. Why am I not surprised it's a lie?
Monday's is on Foreign Policy - can't wait because it's something he has no "story" to go with.
hmmm. Maybe because at Bain, he kept a binder full of targeted companies to circle around slowly and while he and his colleagues assessed the potential profits before moving in and exterminating them?
DeleteWe all saw how well the Repuglican search committees do...look at their VP selection last time around. All the super qualified women who could have filled that position, and look who they picked!
DeleteRegardless of what Mitt's stance on women's issues or women being involved in government is, he still faces an uphill battle and must pull ahead of Obama in Ohio if he wants any hope of winning in November.
ReplyDeleteI've written a nice little piece on this very issue on my own blog that hopefully brings clarity to the entire election in a few short paragraphs.
Whoa, that picture. Volde-mor-mon.

I honestly think President Obama and VP Joe Biden are going to win this upcoming election in a landslide in spite of what the media is projecting daily.
ReplyDeleteCan hardly wait. Romney is a liar and one nasty, evil man!

As a Mount Holyoke grad and resident of the Bay State, I particularly liked this comment posted on Crooks and Liars:
ReplyDelete"Random thought: In the state of Massachusetts, with more colleges per square foot than any state in the union -- including Harvard, M.I.T., Tufts, Boston University, Boston College, Smith, Wellesley, and Mount Holyoke -- and Mittens had to form a special search committee to find "qualified" women for his administration?"
Also from Crooks and Liars website:
http://occupyamerica.crooksandliars.com/diane-sweet/romneys-binders-full-women
I concur, as a Smith graduate. But let's not forget the astounding state university system.
DeletePlus all the corporations and companies centered in Boston. Did he never hire any women at Bain? The Olympics? His campaign?
I never hear Mitt speak about men as having any accountability in single parent situations. My father abandoned his family and did everything he could to shirk even financial responsibility. Romney comes across as if he believes females get pregnant just to live as a single parent. Maybe his religious beliefs has him out if touch with reality. He seems to blame women as if males have no accountability.
