Mitt Romney's "Binders full of Women" comment in last night's debate was not only incredibly offensive, it was also incredibly untrue.

Courtesy of The Phoenix:

Hey, I know about that binder! And guess what -- Mitt Romney was lying about it.

What actually happened was that in 2002 -- prior to the election, not even knowing yet whether it would be a Republican or Democratic administration -- a bipartisan group of women in Massachusetts formed MassGAP to address the problem of few women in senior leadership positions in state government. There were more than 40 organizations involved with the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus (also bipartisan) as the lead sponsor.

They did the research and put together the binder full of women qualified for all the different cabinet positions, agency heads, and authorities and commissions. They presented this binder to Governor Romney when he was elected.

I have written about this before, in various contexts; tonight I've checked with several people directly involved in the MassGAP effort who confirm that this history as I've just presented it is correct -- and that Romney's claim tonight, that he asked for such a study, is false.

Here is the video of Romney's "Binders full of women" comment.

This, of course, should come as no surprise to most of us who have been paying attention, since Romney lies like other people take a breath, But the fact that he made such a misogynistic statement, that is ALSO completely full of shit, is really quite an achievement, even for Mitt the Twit.

From this month's Good Housekeeping interview with Ann Romney. What are Mitt's weaknesses?

"I guess the thing I'd say is he had to learn to control his temper a bit when the children were young. In other situations, he's quick to flare, and I've seen him learn to control that, too. Most people have a very hard time changing their behavior, and I've been impressed that he's actually seen [his temper] as a weakness and worked on it."

Gov. Palin: Good Debate, Vote!, Thank You for Bristol
Posted on October 16 2012 - 11:55 PM - Posted by: Jasmine Velasco | Follow Jasmine on Twitter!

      Governor Palin via Facebook:
We had a really good presidential debate tonight, and I hope every American is energized to get out and vote in three weeks. I also just want to give a quick thank you to everyone who supported Bristol & Mark. I know how much they appreciated the support. Now Bristol can head home just in time to enjoy Alaska’s new fallen snow!
Speaking of the debate, a few words come to mind:
Governor Romney: Strong. Confident. Visionary. Has a plan.
President Obama–Angry. Defensive. Petulant. Dour. Desperate (any time you have to bring up Big Bird and Planned Parenthood again, you are reaching).
What words come to your mind?

      Delete
    3. Anonymous1:00 PM

What comes to mind is that Sarah Palin has never seen the word "dour" before and doesn't know how to pronounce it. I think, therefore, that this is totally ghostwritten.

I heard no plan from Mr. Romney; my words for him are rude, gormless, vague, mysoginistic, liar.
The President: sincere, controlled, factual, thoughtful, intelligent, steady. A leader.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous1:10 PM

The words that come to my mind are: Sarah Paylin you are too stupid to come in out of the rain. That is an old saying that should be multiplied many times as it pertains to you.
I'm trying to be nice here, but Bristol had NO business even being on the DWTS show this year (or any other). She is not a dancer (more a plodder) has no personality and has not been taught how to be gracious. Of course one must be taught by a person who actually has grace and that surely is NOT you.
I will be so happy when you retreat to your dead lake and leave the rest of the world alone. Do you have no awareness of how much you are disliked and in fact ridiculed all over the world?
Poor Tri-g and Tripp. They really don't have a chance do they?
      Dry up an blow away.

Women are notoriously subservient in the Mormon religion. They are taught to obey men, marry young, obey men, have as many children as they possibly can, obey men, keep a clean home, obey men....etc. etc. etc. One need look no further than Mrs. Romney.

It is no surprise the campaign staged showcasing the Ryan family volunteering at a kitchen. The pretense of supporting the 47% scrambling to deceive is worse then their beliefs dismissing people take no responsibility for their lives.

Like many cultish religions, the Mormons don't allow women in any position of leadership.

It's painfully obvious from Romney's life, and his allegiance to his Mormon cult that he doesn't like women "teaching or having authority over men"

That quote happens to come straight from the misognyist character in the bible known as Paul of Tarsus. He wrote that as his private opinion in a letter to a young man called Timothy

Paul also wrote this nonsense to a man named Titus,

(Women are) "to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God"

Got that ladies? They want you barefoot, pregnant, and married to your Maytag.

These private opinions have now achieved superstar "word of god" status , and of course those hateful sentiments have been adopted by nearly all male Christian supremacists in evangelical circles.

If you had Romney's private thoughts revealed, he'd much rather work with men only.

He will have to accept some women in his cabinet if he gets elected, but you can be sure that he will not have a women VP, a woman chief of staff, and the big spots like Defense, State, Treasury, or Attorney General will only go to men.

  14. It was unbelievable offensive. He made it sound like he had to search far and wide and get a ton of people to help him find some women who could possible fill his cabinet positions.

Not to mention the fact that he completely ignored (avoided) the topic of pay equity and reinforced his ideas about a woman's place. We all know Mormons believe women shouldn't work outside the home once they are married and that they should be married young.

Romney and Ryan are like Palin compelled to lie to make a bigger impression when they could tell the truth. Instead they may get an immediate win yet it is followed by a greater loss when demonstrable truth comes forth. They are mistaken that they are entitled to discredit and lie about other people aka use then abuse people.

OT I hope there is an opportunity in the next debate to slam Romney for exploiting the Libya tragedy to win the presidecy viewed by his own party as inappropriate. Another valid point is the potential
