Serving time in prison is SO much easier when you have 11 million dollars waiting for you on the outside. |
Former newspaper executive Rebekah Brooks received a payout totaling more than 7 million pounds ($11.2 million) following her resignation from Rupert Murdoch's British newspaper group last year, the Financial Times said on Tuesday.
Brooks, the woman at the heart of a scandal shaking Rupert Murdoch's media empire and the British government, is awaiting trial next year on multiple charges in relation to phone-hacking by reporters at one of her papers.
The FT cites two people with knowledge of her compensation as saying the payout consisted of cash and pension payments as well as an allowance for legal fees and the use of a chauffeur-driven car.
Two of the people cited by the newspaper said the payout also included substantial claw-back clauses for her former employer, News International.
These entitle News International, the British arm of News Corp., to recover some of the payment from Brooks in certain circumstances, according to a third person familiar with the details of her exit package.
A spokeswoman for News International declined to comment and a spokesman for Brooks could not be reached for immediate comment.
Okay so Brooks was paid over ELEVEN MILLION dollars when she left Murdoch's employ under a cloud of suspicion, however there is a clause which states she must return a portion of this money "in certain circumstances?"
Would those "circumstances" include testifying against her old boss? Because I have to say that it kind of looks that way.
Does it look that way to everybody else, or am I missing something here?
And how does this NOT make both her and her employer look even MORE guilty?
can't wait for the trial-- this should be interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat is how the rich shut up pie holes. It worked with Roger Ailes and Judith Regan (the Bernard B. Kerik affair) .

Rebekah knows where ALL of the bodies are buried (figuratively speaking). If $11M keeps her quiet, that's a small price paid for "Keep the Old Crook Out of Prison" insurance. Murdoch has blackmailed many UK politicians, and likely several here in the U.S. with his criminal "info gathering" enterprise.
ReplyDeleteWell, we know Murdoch is guilty. I am really surprised that these people will go to jail to cover for him, but I guess money really can buy silence. I can only hope that he gets his eventually, and that Fox goes into the crapper as well. It would be fun to see O'Reilly, Greta, Hannity and the rest of the fake journalism crew crawling around looking for pennies in the street, because who will hire them? Rush? Beck? And they won't have an 11 million dollar payoff waiting for them. Oh, and dear Sarah too. Just who will want anything to do with WonderMouth when Fox is done wuth her?
ReplyDeleteHow are these types of nondisclosure agreements, when they concern holding back information that would show someone committed a crime, a CRIME? Isn't it collusion? Aiding and abetting? I just don't understand how they can get away with it.
ReplyDeleteGenerally unenforceable to the extent of revealing information regarding a felony when questioned by law enforcement or under subpoena by a grand jury.
DeleteOf course, the remedy for breaking the NDA is a civil action. Breaking an NDA is profitable if the upside value of the information to a third party is greater than the value to the 2nd party to NDA.
This is probably what was done with Ms Brooks---she received additional funds to shut up when the heat was turned up on RM.
Jesus, she looks like a throw-back from 17th century Salem in that outfit.
ReplyDeleteRebekah could pose for a Bride of Chucky doll in that photo.
ReplyDeleteUmmm...that's one SCARY looking redhead!
ReplyDeleteIf it looks like a fuck, excuse me, duck, sounds like a duck, it's Murdoch.
ReplyDeleteMitt needs two binders for that mug! Good Job if you can get it! Sit in jail, get free meals, health care and entertainment with eleven million gaining interest waiting for you.
ReplyDeleteWhen is it Murdoch's turn?
