New Rules: Bill Maher shatters myth that Obama ruined America.

Courtesy of Politicususa:

It just doesn’t feel like Obama has ruined America. Republicans used to talk a lot about this thing called the stock market, and how it helped not just the rich, but middle class folks whose pensions and 401ks depended on it, well now they never seem to mention the stock market. Perhaps, because under President Blackenstein the Dow has doubled, or as Republicans call it, devastating economic news. Now, there certainly still is poverty in our country, but it’s obviously among the underclass that you don’t see. The very people that today’s Republicans could give a sh*t about, so I don’t understand why they’re all so upset about the economy, except of course, it’s their big issue. So they have to pretend that America is a rotten compost where people are eating cat food and wiping their ass with the Pennysaver. And weirdly, Obama kind of has to pretend that too, because if he doesn’t, then he’s out of touch.

So we all wind up living in this fictional picture of America that actually would be more appropriate for the year before Obama took office. Remember 2008? I do. That’s when Lehman Brothers collapsed and the market froze and they measuring GM for a pumpkin lot. And when you opened your bank statement you saw the drowned Japanese girl from The Ring, and then you died.

And yes, I am saying we can keep blaming Bush for that. It’s the same as blaming rats for the Black Plague. Just because you’re sick of hearing historians saying it doesn’t mean it stopped being true. George Bush left a flaming pile of dog sh*t on the White House steps, and now it’s gone, and Mitt Romney has a hell of a nerve running on the idea that I’m going to fix the economy by restoring the policies of the party that destroyed it.

Well said.

Thanks Gryphen! The part about visiting the malls, any mall, and seeing how busy they are was spot on!

    This part slayed me-

Bill Maher is a national treasure!

This part was awkward, but he somehow got through it with a straight face

Even at the height of the downturn, I remember standing in a bicycle shop, feeling rather stupid, for buying 2 bikes for $400 each.

I'd heard unemployment was almost to 10% and going by what they said on the news each night, we would all be diving into dumpsters to get food, any day now.

So, imagine how I felt to have to stand there for 45 minutes to give my money to this retailer, as they processed about six people ahead of me, all buying bikes that ran in the $1,800 range.

So, I finally left, wondering, "WHAT recession?" I mean, really...think about it: even if 10% of the people were out of work, that still means 90% were doing as well as they ever did.

And Maher is correct: you have to fight your way through huge crowds all spending money like crazy, more and more every day.

So, how is it the Republicans are able to convince everyone that we're going to Hell in a hand basket, and need to change who is in power, so badly?

I'd say we are all doing pretty damn well!

    I love Bill Maher!!!

We are going to be in such a world of hurt if the Mittens is elected. Time to assure ourselves for continuing improvement with the help of President Obama. Vote Republicans out of office across the nation!!!

Maher is 100 time worse than Rush. Why won't your liberals discuss the tax hike in 2014 and the medicare cuts Obamacare will institute?

    Those are VERY Real.

Anon 9:41. I want to present a different experience than your bike shopping. I have a different perspective perhaps that I was in my mid fifties when the economy crashed. Older people who saved, invested in retirement plans, home equity reeled when an adult lifetime of fiscal responsibility vanished in weeks 40-60%. Monies that grew over decades can't be saved in 5-7 years. People in their 20's to 30 have decades to catch up and have not worked extra, made sacrifices, made do to send kids to college, be financially independent in retirement. They are not as affected and age favors recovery the younger one is.

The more prime area I moved to had great small

shops in two areas. Suddenly these businesses

closed down some after 30 years of business.

Reality hit when 1/3 of thriving shops were vacant.

I still had my job however we were called off, days
without pay or forced vacation days over two years.

Those empty stores gradually had new businesses started in them. This past year I could work overtime. The stock market rose and my retirement and other savings has been restored and my kids will have an inheritance. I got to hire people for home renovations and improvements. I again bought stuff from local stores and bigger ticket items.

People who did not own a house, have savings, investments mistakenly thought let banks fail, let auto manufacturers fail for they did not comprehend how devestation would impact them like being laid off. I am glad I chose to invest in Obama as pres for me, my family, grandchildren and country.

The SOS would have resulted in great depression probably.

The picture of the mall that Bill Mayer profiled was not in America. It is the Eaton Centre in Toronto Canada
