President Obama killing it at the Alfred E. Smith dinner last night.

Now I think that Obama knocked it out of the park last night, but to be fair, and as non-partisan as I am able to be 18 days before an election, here is Mitt Romney's routine for comparison.

I loved his line about using his middle name.

Romney was petty, small, highly unlikeable from my viewing.

    Mitt Romney's Pregnancy Problem

...A far more ominous tale in the Romney canon also took place that summer, one that has been largely swept under the rug as the former governor of Massachusetts challenges incumbent Barack Obama for the presidency. There have been no songs written about it, no cartoons, no gags on late-night television, no magazine covers.

It was in August of that year, shortly after the Romney family returned from their vacation to Lake Huron, that a pregnant woman in her late 30s—Carrel Hilton Sheldon—was informed by her doctor that she had a life-threatening blood clot lodged in her pelvic region.

In treating the clot, Sheldon was administered an overdose of the blood thinner Heparin, an overdose that not only resulted in significant internal bleeding, but also extensive damage to her kidneys, to the point where she was on the verge of needing a transplant. Her life was clearly in peril.

Sheldon's doctor advised her that the overdose of Heparin might have also harmed her 8-week-old fetus and, given the possible fatal repercussions to her, he recommended that she abort her pregnancy.

Sheldon, a mother of four at the time (a fifth child had died as an infant), was then a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), outside of Boston. The LDS leader in Massachusetts at that time, called the "stake president," was a Harvard-trained physician, Dr. Gordon Williams, and he counseled Sheldon to follow her doctor's advice to terminate the pregnancy and protect her own life, so that she could continue caring for her four living children.

"Of course, you should have the abortion," she recalled him saying.

Hey Gryphen, is this how it is in Anchorage?

    1. Yes, I'm afraid that it still is like that in many places. Though to give this the benefit of the doubt the direction was probably phrased to inform the worker to keep "drunk natives" out of their establishment.

There are a number of homeless people in and around Anchorage, and they are often both native and inebriated.

However if your question is about racism in Anchorage, then yes we have plenty of that. Especially against the native population.

Yes, that was my question, and thank you for taking the time to respond. So sad wherever racism exists related to any culture.

THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE endorses OBAMA!!!

A Bishop in the Mormon faith is not getting endorsed by the city newspaper that is home to the Mormon church.

I think this is a pretty BFD.

    Too many Mitts

    Obama has earned another term

    2. The Salt Lake Tribune should know Governor Romney pretty well. I think we should listen to them. Likewise, the people of Massachusetts will vote overwhelmingly for Obama. Or is the Right-Wing echo chamber claiming MA is in play along with every other state?

I heard about that today on the radio and thought that it was a major slap in Romney's face. But reading it had a much better impact!

So Ryan's state is turning blue, and now Bishit Willard's OWN mormon go- to paper hits him with this!

Ouch, he's probably doing a "Gino" by the side of the road.

Hey Toasty - use "Boney Boo Boo", it matches your new avatar perfectly!

The price of wealth is having to endure Romney's sense of "humor".

Wiki has a couple of interesting bits about this dinner:

During the 2000 dinner George W. Bush joked, "This is an impressive crowd. The haves and the have-mores. Some people call you the elite. I call you my base".

It is widely believed that all attendees, even famous speakers, must have assets in excess of $30M US to be invited.

Once again Romney comes off looking like a rude, arrogant, spiteful, condescending, petty little bastard. Is it me or have the GOP dropped all the "elitist" jabs against Obama this time? Kinda hard to call the President an elitist when they have a 1/4 or 1/2 billionaire on their ticket.

Obama was funny, as one is supposed to be at these sorts of things, poking fun at himself and the season.
Romney was mean -- making fun of his opponent. He doesn't know what's appropriate, or fair. Or funny.

Very clearly expressed analysis of the editorial board's review of both candidates.

Holy crap! You can't get elected dog catcher in Utah without being heavily into the Mormon cult.

I'd love to see Alaska's largest newspaper come out and endorse Obama.

But when the editorial board has a Palin wiggling down in its pants..I guess that won't happen, huh?

I didn't say which Palin, by the way..

The POTUS was fantastic. He looked like he was really enjoying himself, his humor is genuine and his jokes were appropriate for the venue. Usually it's mostly self deprecating jokes with a few "jabs" at the other candidate, nothing too sharp nor offensive.

Romney, apparently, never got that message. The slimy prick went for the jugular, his humor was forced, and his shifty eyes kept waiting to see the reaction before he robotic-ally went back to his list to deliver the next barb. Clearly out of his element.

I'm so glad President Obama showed how classy he is.

OT I got a google ad with Billy Graham, next to it in big honking letters it says "VOTE BIBLICAL VALUES" Tuesday, november 6

    It leads to BillyGraham.org
