Courtesy of HuffPo:
"White people vote for white people like it's going out of style," Maher said during the New Rules segment at the end of his first post-election episode. "And like most things white people do, it's going out of style."
In other words, Maher quipped that Republicans have "the same problem as the Beach Boys: Their fans are dying."
This is going to make some racist heads explode.
It was a great show last night with a panel that included Andrew Sullivan, James Carville, and later Samuel L. Jackson, But it was almost ruined for me by the inclusion of S.E. Cupp, who spent the entire show spreading stupid all over the set.
Though I enjoyed watching Sullivan and Carville shut her down, it all seemed a little unnecessary so soon after the smart people won such a huge victory last Tuesday. (By the way I have NEVER struck a woman, but I REALLY wanted somebody to knock that ignorant bitch on her ass. That was wrong of me right?)
Update: For those who missed the show, here is a link so that you are not left out of the fun.
No you are not wrong... MORE bitch-slappin is in order... Did you also know that she was 'replaced' yesterday on her normal 3 pm show 'The Cycle'.... TOAST...
ReplyDeleteHar.... Har... Har....
Did you also know that she was 'replaced' yesterday on her normal 3 pm show 'The Cycle'.... TOAST...
DeleteDid you know that yesterday she was on Bill Maher's panel, on the opposite coast? Do you feel that somebody should have paid for an hour's satellite time, for her? Of course she wasn't on The Cycle (so I watched it, for once).
(By the way I have NEVER struck a woman, but I REALLY wanted somebody to knock that ignorant bitch on her ass. That was wrong of me right?)
ReplyDeleteNO! I'll help you..
Me too!
DeleteWTF is wrong with her? Stuck on stupid?
Retard! And trying to look like Palin with the fug glasses! FAIL!
This is the ERA of Smart Liberal women! Not retards who want to "look" smart but wearing glasses!
Fuck off all con women. Your FAIL!
And especially Mann Coulter!
"...it all seemed a little unnecessary so soon after the smart people won such a huge victory last Tuesday."
ReplyDeleteGiven your urge to strike S. E. Cupp, its seems that the right-bashing was all-too necessary, Gryph. The right has it coming...12 years' worth by my reckoning.
You’re forgiven. There are women who will follow a guy from room to room screaming until they are pushed away. I don’t blame a man for protecting his space.
ReplyDeleteEither Sully or James could get rid of her with one open-handed shove.
Wow. Just not neccessary at all. Gryphen was joking around; it is never ok to be physical like that with a woman, even if she is following and yelling like you say. Men follow and yell, too, and the poor woman can't hit him can she? Sorry, but you're not a real feminist until you condemn all violence against women; you are a feminist with an asterix that says 'unless she asked for it of course!' which is the typical given male excuse for all violence against women. You should be ashamed. All violence sufferers KNOW your excuse is simply the easy escape route ALL their attackers seek to use as a defense.
DeleteS hort E. Cupp Babbles Republican Talking Points just like Sarah Palin, only more COHERENT.
ReplyDeleteknock her
ReplyDeleteyep, that's wrong
I am a true fan of Mahr but sometimes he does a lousy job at guest line-ups. I agree with wanting to bash S.E's face in, I don't watch the new show Cycle because of her..but Bill needed a conservative more like David Frumm as he acknowledges the GOP problems, even Michael Steele would have been better. She is Ann Colter lite, without the hate speech....totally ignorant of facts. I enjoyed listening to Mason and the value of legalizing pot makes soooo much sense, the overcrowding and waste of money in prisons...and increased revenue thru taxes and growers. Talk about liberty...the tobacco companies have been ready for years with logos, marketing, everything ready to go. Alcohol and prescription drugs are what kills.
ReplyDeleteSE Cupp should not be invited anywhere. She's not house trained. I downloaded David Frum's book Why Romney Lost.($3.99 on Kindle) Once you get through the BS about Obama being a lousy president, you do get some red meat about the arrogance and stupidity of the Romney campaign. Good thing, the Repubs will never take the advice - or the responsibility for the loss.
DeleteAgree..S E Cupp never adds anything to the discussion. It used to be people like her were kept in mental hospitals. Not sure what it says for this country that we pay people like her to be on shows. She and Ann Coulter just say nasty things for the shock value.
ReplyDeleteThe gal drove me nuts on the show last night too - I'm sure Sullivan wanted to knock her block off!! Love Carville, his smile and great sense of humor! And, Bill was as good as always as was Samuel Jackson!
ReplyDeleteNever miss the Friday night show and strongly recommend it to others.
Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteFirstly -- you would not have been wrong!
But secondly -- you would not have had to as I know myself -- I would have beat you to it.
P.S. -- I'm Female!!!! And would have decked that bitch into the next century!!
I was so irritated by Cupp's insistent blather I could not concentrate on Carville and Sullivan, whom I really wanted to hear. Cupp is a detriment to Mahar's otherwise generally delightful show.
ReplyDeleteWhen we talk about the conservative bubble, we’re generally talking about the Fox-Rush-Drudge information bubble, and the people who reside in it. This is the information loop that allows any willing right-winger to live in a world where the opinions they already are the only ones that get recited back to them, and the opinions they will one day have get fed to them so they can later recite them and hear them being recited back again, and around and around we go, all without any having to hear any opposing viewpoints expressed beyond – possibly – those of tokens like Kirsten Powers and that old school Irish Dem who periodically loses it and tells Sean Hannity to go fuck himself. I think his name is Bob Beckel or something. And I’d like his job some day.
ReplyDeleteIf you’re a conservative, wherever you turn, the bubble is there. If you want to get your news on TV, you have Fox. If you’re the type who frequents talk radio, there’s Rush, along with a dozen other Rush clones. If you want to get your news online, you get all the links you want to read assembled for you by Matt Drudge, complete with misleading headlines, bad pictures of Hillary Clinton and Michele Obama, and a smattering of racism. Anywhere a Republican wants to turn for news, there’s a friendly face. And by “friendly” I mean the “smiling veneer over the contemptible inner core.”
Check out one pin prick in GOP bubble. If you skip over the blame the deadbeats comments, some of the comments are interesting:

Anon at 4:11 pm. I have a feeling that Mitt Romney gathered money from his rich pals much the way he "harvested" businesses bought up by Bain Capital and then ruined them.
DeleteBernie Sanders said, "Republicans are trying to push through a benefit cut to veterans, the disabled, and seniors by disguising it as a tweak to the system. Sen, Sanders told reporters, “We do not honor our disabled veterans by cutting their benefits. In my view in this country means anything it means we keep the promises we make to the people who put their lives on the line to defend us.”
ReplyDeletehttp://www.politicususa.com/bernie-sanders-slams-gop-plan-reduce-deficit-cutting-veterans-benefits.html
The plan is broken up into seven different parts, focusing on topics that include manufacturing, energy, small businesses, education, taxes and the deficit, healthcare, and Medicare and Social Security. While a lot of crucial details are still missing, it's a start to understanding what another four years under Obama would look like.

I don't think Fox News, AM radio, etc. really shape public opinion that much, I think they really just tap into a market for people who want to have their opinions/biases confirmed. Just like you go to church and listening to the sermon helps you to maintain your faith, listening to Rush Limbaugh every day maintains your faith in your politics. Rarely is either going to convert nonbelievers, the goal is just to keep the masses energized.
ReplyDeleteThis is what the minimal effects model suggests, but it's really difficult to believe. I see too many people go loony for infowars and Limbaugh after being relatively sane.
I agree with your post. What is the minimal effects model? I am truly interested to know.
DeleteRemember back at the beginning of his term when Obama was saying that Limbaugh is the unelected leader of the Republican party? And some GOP congressman denied that, but within 48 hours offered profuse apologies to Rush for any perceived disrespect? I wish the president had kept bringing that up.
ReplyDeleteI've never like S.E. Cupp and would have loved to see Rachel Maddow take her down with the facts, which she is totally capable of doing.
ReplyDeleteM from MD
I second that! Cupp spouts talking points and it makes her seem immature while Rachel does her research, enlightens us & knows her subject!
Delete-Colleen
Oh that would be GREAT! Please Please Please, Rachel, schmoose her by saying you're both on the same network, and you'd love to hear her opinions on your show... Or, better yet, have Rachel replace Crystal Ball for one program.

ReplyDeleteLIMBAUGH: But isn't it -- Sylvia, isn't there a -- I'll whisper this so nobody else hears, isn't there a racial component to this? The Cubans -- not, you know, I mean --
CALLER: A lot of times, and I'll be very frank and honest with you, knowing all of the markets I know, they're very -- a society that's -- they're very close to their Cuban roots. And I know some of the older-population Cubanos eventually want to go back to Cuba. And they don't want to let it go.
LIMBAUGH: But the Republicans get a large part of the Cuban vote, particularly South Florida, already. And it's oriented -- I can't win here, I just can't win. It's oriented -- the reason that the Cubans are not that popular, of the Hispanic divisions you've talked about -- it's a race thing.
CALLER: Yes, it is.
LIMBAUGH: It's a race thing. They're just not quite dark -- as dark, and they're oriented toward work.
CALLER: No, the thing that we -- and I'm going to say "we," collectively -- the thing that we all have in common is Spanish. And that is something that -- we're very proud that we can speak a second language. It's helped me in my career.
Sometimes I wish he would just let it all out. I mean, how many more sponsors are going to pull the plug on him? Maybe he thinks the gold investment guys and Lifelock wouldn't have it. I just want to see him to go down in horrible bigoted flames before he dies of a heart attack, is that so much to ask? Do it for me Rush, I wanna see you burn.
I don't like the conservative guests that Maher has had on his show. They all seem to belong to the same school of "If I keep talking loud enough and long enough maybe someone will believe me, and maybe I'll believe the crap that they are making me say." Not one of them makes a good point. They seem to just resort to some childish playground stunt of saying "nah nah nah" and sticking their fingers in their ears.
ReplyDeleteThen, reading everyone's comments about Cupp (I didn't like her either), I realized what Maher has been doing. He has but conservatives out there who are just plain awful, saying stupid things. Yes, they are awful, but Maher is actually doing them a big favor by putting their "stupid" on parade. After all, Christine O'Donnell was a regular on his ABC show, and people tuned to to see the wacko gal who performed some kind of witchcraft on an altar. Maher is the reason why Christine had to make that "I am not a witch" commercial.
So, what Maher is secretly doing is exposing those people for the idiots that they are. They look foolish and say foolish things, and they create enough of a tension in the conversation to keep people interested. Some of the greatest moments on a Rachel Maddow show was when she interviewed one of the few Republicans willing to appear on her show. She cut them up into small pieces. Otherwise, all that MSNBC or Bill are doing is preaching to the choir.
I used to think that Karl Rove was the evil genius behind George W. Bush and the current bunch of Republicans. The best thing that showed Rove for what he was was Rove himself when he stubbornly kept doing his math while Fox News called the election for Obama. And, if you think about it, no matter how much we laughed at Sarah Palin and attacked her, in the end, Sarah was her own worst enemy, too. Give those guys enough rope and they hang themselves. Thanks, Bill, I finally got it.
I think you have a point there about Maher and I totally agree.
DeleteThanks, you saved me from having to comment - If Bill didn't have all that footage of Christine, she might have squeaked by and won.
DeleteThe man is a genius!
LOL great show!
ReplyDeleteWhat has me a little riled up today Gryph is that the Supreme Court is going to review the Voting Rights Act of 1965 because Shelby County in Alabama (of course!) is challenging the constitutionality of portions of the Voting Rights Act.
The Republican-owned SCOTUS learned quickly that this election couldn't be bought by all the money in the world since they ruled behind our backs that "corporations are people". So now all of a sudden their going to "review" their case which was filed in 2010 and was previously over-ruled in May! I don't trust them.
There needs to be a big microscope focused on the old white men in the SCOTUS. Hopefully their gerrymandering is about to go out of style. Lets's talk about that Maher, Colbert & Stewart!
-Colleen
Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteWhile Cupp was annoying she was nothing compared to a recent show with two rupug dudes who absolutely REFUSED to come out of their bubble and admit facts. They talked over everyone else again and again so I just muted it until Bill got to new rulez. One idiot repug is okay for contrast but two idiots in the bubble makes the show unwatchable.
