In January, televangelist Pat Robertson told 700 Club viewers that in his annual New Year’s “conversation” with God, the Almighty had revealed to him who the next president would be. Up through Election Day, Robertson harshly criticized President Obama and the Democratic Party while praising Mitt Romney. Then, Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network predicted a GOP sweep, leaving Robertson utterly confounded by Obama’s victory.
'
Today, responding to a question from a viewer who wondered why her business is struggling since she thought God told her it would be successful, Robertson admitted that he sometimes misses God’s message. “So many of us miss God, I won’t get into great detail about elections but I sure did miss it, I thought I heard from God, I thought I had heard clearly from God, what happened?” Robertson replied, “You ask God, how did I miss it? Well, we all do and I have a lot of practice.”
"You have to practice the presence of God, practice the voice of God, practice hearing from God. And then check to see if indeed you are hearing from him." What does "practice" the presence or voice of God mean? Does that mean you are supposed to sift through the voices in your head until you identify the one that is not simply the result of a mental illness, and then do what THAT one says?
You would think that in this day and age the minute somebody claimed that God was speaking to them, they would find themselves in a little rubber room with bars on the window and a fancy new straight jacket to wear.
Or perhaps at the VERY least expect that thousands of people would not believe this person has God on speed dial and send him their hard earned money week after week.
Yes I know, since I am an Atheist I simply cannot be expected to understand. Yeah, bummer for me.
When isolated people have delusional beliefs, it's labeled mental illness.
ReplyDeleteWhen limited numbers of people have shared delusional beliefs, it's labeled a cult.
When large numbers of people have shared delusional beliefs, it's labeled a religion.

Until Pat finally dissolves into drooling dementia will his mic be pulled - at least I would hope they would....
ReplyDeleteGod speaking to Pat Robertson: "Fuck Off!"
ReplyDeleteGod lays it on your heart what to do in situations. Practice my @ss. She wanted to HEAR what she wanted to hear, just like Saint Esther and her bunch. Look how fast they fall, out for themselves in the name of Him. He only gives so much rope....
ReplyDeleteUnless your being sarcastic here, you're really just as cray-cray crazy as the rest of them. It doesn't matter whether your delusions tell you good stuff instead of the bad stuff the righties hear. Either way, it is all in your head and should be the definitive sign to get your ass to a doctor STAT.
DeleteWell, I bet that T.V. preachin' beats working for a living.
ReplyDeletePat had his majic receiver set to the wrong frequency?
ReplyDeleteAs Homer Simpson would say... DOH!
While I am no theist, I would like to think that Satan himself is waiting to sodomize this sorry waste of skin for all eternity once he arrives in hell.
ReplyDeleteHave never understood why many Christians go to church.....and never seem to pay attention.....
ReplyDeleteMy father commented one time that Church goers will cut you off leaving the Church parking lot. The old "me first"!
DeleteI used to hear voices in my head telling me things...then a friend pointed out it was a cell phone...at least I have that...
ReplyDeleteAt least Mr. Robertson is taking full responsibility for having missed the message.
ReplyDeleteIt couldn't have been mis-sent.
Poor senile old man. When you talk to God it's called "praying", when God talks to you, it's called crazy.
ReplyDeleteBut keep those cards and checks coming, folks! The 700 club is feeding the naked and clothing the hungry!
Hate to be the old dampener...but 'talking to god' isn't praying, but simply talking to someone that isn't there, in the belief that someone is not only there, but so disinterested in the other 7 billion people around the world - 5 billion with REAL problems - that he/she has time in their daily calendar alloted to listening to YOU and not only that, but also taking time out to meddle in your life to make things better for some reason.
DeleteThat isn't praying; it's mental illness really, strictly speaking.
And also incredibly egotistical!
No backlash from me at all, couldn't agree more on all points, my response was meant to be sarcasm, I should have worded it more carefully.
DeleteApart from the point that if anyone keeps hearing the voices they should be locked away for their own and the society's protection, isn't it interesting that the voices they hear always support whatever point they want to make and they are always absolutely certain. On Pat Robertson's admission, you can't feel sorry for this poor old buffoon - he deserves the maximum in public ridicule
ReplyDeletePoor Pat... A global loser for so long no one remembers... OR CARES !!!
ReplyDeleteObama’s Culture of Life: Abortion Rate Drops by Largest Percentage Since 2000
ReplyDelete...If anyone’s policies are deserving of the label “baby-killer”, it is the Republicans, right next to “women-killer” given the Republican National Party’s platform which seeks to pass a constitutional amendment that would extend legal rights to the unborn (essentially banning abortion in all cases). This is the same platform Republicans had in 2004 and 2008, and yet “year-to-year variation from 2006 to 2008 resulted in no net change during this later period.”
Republicans lost national security to President Obama and fiscal conservatism to both Clinton and Obama. Now they stand to lose their only remaining banner issue; abortion.
The largest single-year decrease since 2000 happened under President Obama in 2009. But even without these numbers, the data from the CDC supports Obama’s and the Democratic party’s policies as policies that reduce the number of abortions. Their policies seek to reduce abortions by providing low or no cost access to contraception. Obama’s policies are proven by research to actually work to reduce abortion. Obama’a policies also seek to protect women’s lives, thereby creating a real culture of life from either perspective.

Robertson has been blurting out any number of things lately that seem to fall into the category of "It's okay if you're one of us, and male."
ReplyDeleteIt's okay to divorce and leave your spouse with Alzheimer 's, because they're sort of dead anyway. You could convert to Islam, and then you could beat your disrespectful wife. Hey, Gen. Petraeus is a man in a war zone, so betraying his wife is okay.
Oh, that Mrs. Robertson. What a lucky women.
What a horrid little man.
Would somebody PLEASE get this senile, insane, hating, prejudiced fanatic hater out of our miseries?
ReplyDeleteJust put him in a padded room somewhere and LET him talk to God all he wants - and vice versa.
Just get him out of OUR lives!
I got banned when I posted at the lunatic asylum - for calling them out as liars - but how on earth does anyone live and believe the latest statements from the palin worshipers
ReplyDelete1. Something happened in January 2009 that sent the economy into decline!!!
Um NO - that happened in 2008 while GWB was in charge
2. It is the feminization of the West that has weakened the West. Women are all about emotion ...
Should never have given women the vote - this on a website that wants Sarah Palin (a woman) to lead the free world.
This is what home schooling and the bible as the source of all worldly information does to the minds of a % of the US population
