Hey I just have to say that I am one atheist who LOVES Christmas. Always have.
It was always a very special holiday in my house growing up, and my mom went all out to celebrate it. Still does to this day in fact.
I just wish the Christians had not watered down the Saturnalia celebration quite so much. For instance we could bring this part of the early Christmas festivities back:
The earliest Christmas holidays were celebrated by drinking, sexual indulgence, singing naked in the streets.
Though I have to say that living in Alaska would keep much of that naked singing to a minimum.
I'm sure O'Reilly will be right on this come Monday. He'll be angry that atheists are now trying to take over HIS holiday.
ReplyDeleteJust one more nonexistent war from the right. How come they aren't against REAL wars that, you know, kill people?
I believe FOX, using O'Reilly as its mouthpiece, is actually seeking to increasing its evangelical viewers to help attract advertisers. I also believe FOX has used him several times in the past to the same for different groups, although I can't recall any at the time. O'Reilly is their go to guy when they want to get a view point out. The same goes for FOX and Friends. I thought it was interesting when Gretchen Carlson stated "It's not what I believe" when Geraldo Rivera challenged her on something she stated last week.

ReplyDeleteSissypants!
Please, Gryphen!!!
ReplyDeleteI sing in a choir which has many members in their 60s, 70s and above. I DO NOT want to see them singing naked in ANY location, at ANY time of the year!
And, while I am at least a decade younger than most of them, I do not wish to inflict the vision of my unclothed body frolicking in the streets on any of them either, thank you very much!
Why do you hate Christmas?
DeleteA little strategic decorative garlands might do the trick ya know.

ReplyDeleteI guess that shrinkage is a real concern.
I have NO idea what you are implying.

Or ride a horse!
Deletelol! You guys too funny! Thanks for laughs on a Sunday morn!
DeleteHeck, I'm a pagan and Buddhist and I still go whole hog on Christmas. I'm the first one to send out those cards right after Thanksgiving! I've taken to making presents for most of the people on my list. I just decorated our tree tonight. I love the season!!!

I actually like the sentiment conveyed by that tree. I would hope it's accepted in the spirit it's given. But I don't see an angel on the top, religious symbols among the ornaments, nor a nativity set so someone's bound to find it offensive, a mockery of their faith, and how DARE (clutching pearls" "Those ATHEISTS" steal our holiday!!!
ReplyDeleteThose early Christians really knew how to party!
