Conservative columnist claims that President Obama is responsible for "internal civil war" among Republicans.

Courtesy of Mediaite:

Sean Hannity brought Charles Krauthammer on his show tonight to discuss President Obama‘s role in the ongoing fiscal cliff negotiations. Both Hannity and Krauthammer agreed that Obama has been to hardline in trying to negotiate with Republicans, but Krauthammer gave the president some credit for managing to effectively tear the GOP in half over whether or not they can compromise with Obama on raising tax rates.

Hannity sardonically celebrated Obama’s return from his Hawaiian vacation to deal with the impending cliff. Krauthammer admitted he doesn’t “begrudge [Obama] his holiday,” but he does have an issue with how the president has been dealing with the fiscal cliff negotiations. He did, however, give Obama his due credit for a stunning accomplishment amidst the ongoing talks.

“He’s been using this, and I must say with great skill–-and ruthless skill and success–to fracture and basically shatter the Republican opposition… His objective from the very beginning was to break the will of the Republicans in the House, and to create an internal civil war. And he’s done that.”

Krauthammer said Obama has been pushing the GOP since winning reelection to focus on raising tax rates because he knew it would be a sore subject between differing factions of his Republican opposition, and his interest in scoring a partisan political victory outweighs his desire to seriously deal with the national debt.

Okay look as you know I have already been VERY impressed with this President. But if he is actually manipulating the Republicans as Krauthammer claims, while at the same time THEY were doing everything in their power to discredit him and block his policies, then I am ready to bestow Godhood status on the man.

It would essentially make him one of the greatest Presidents, not to mention Democrats, in American history!

"I told you, I got this."

Excuse me, but the republicans southern strategy, embracing fundamentalist nut-jobs, dumbing down politics, and putting the village idiots (oops, I mean teabaggers) in a position of power has come back to roost mr. krauthammer.

Exactly right. The VERY DAY that Mr Obama was sworn into office in 2009, the hard core Teapubs, and core leadership members along with Norquist met in secret to plot their strategy.

Mitch (turtle boy )McConnell publicly stated afterwards that his Number one goal was to ensure that President Obama was a one term President.

That is not democracy, it's civil-political war, and the entire country has suffered as a result of such myopic policy and near treasonous sentiment ever since.

The Teaparty, along with the ultra religious right, and the Koch brothers are responsible for the civil war in the Repub party.

They got exactly what they deserve by running candidates like CHristine O'donnell, and Sharron Angle, never mind the Rape brothers (Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock).

Losing the Senate to Dems was the result, only proving my point more emphatically.

The Republican's simply will not accept, or admit that Bush has a much larger stake in our debt than Obama. That's not what they want you to hear, or the unfunded policies he put in place such as increasing the Medicare prescription drug benefits, cutting taxes when we already had deficit spending, and best of all, financing the Iraqi invasions with money borrowed from China that very few people knew anything about, including Congress. Nor did they want you to know how long Bush's unfunded mandates and borrowed would increase our deficit in the future. And even now the Republican's are still trying to protect the rich who are a major contributor to their campaigns and who also have the lowest taxes since the 50's.

At least with Obama, he has worked to lower our deficit spending and is now, rightfully so, calling to raise the taxes on the rich.

Not willing to bestow "godhood" status on Obama, because I don't believe in god, but that being said, I do hope he stands his ground and just lets us go over the cliff. It is the only way to fully recognize our Democratic agenda; tax cuts for the wealthy and decreased military funding. It might hurt in the short term, but it has to happen. I hope he stands firmly and lets it happen.

I agree with you totally on this! To actually get Krauthammer to admit that the Republican party is fractured is a big triumph for all that is good in the world. They are such a bunch of fools but that's what you get when your only mission after 2008 was to make Obama a one term president. When that failed, they had nothing left. Serves them right.

"... internal civil war..." !!!! Ever heard of an EXternal civil war?

Furthermore, the Republicans are doing a fine job of warring among themselves, no need to credit President Obama. Even with the good voters eliminating some of the more moronic threats (Todd Akin?), the Republicans have plenty of material to destroy themselves. There's still enough angry, rich, white, straight(?) men in the upper echelons to keep the Republican party in disarray until it disintegrates under the rapidly approaching demographic pressures.

It's interesting that Krauthammer admits the Republicans aren't smart enough to end the infighting for the greater good, like preserving the party or

    RUNNING the F....ing government.

Republican whiners accuse liberals of considering President Obama our god, which no liberal does. We simply recognize and rejoice that he is smart, educated and effective and will probably be considered as one of the best presidents of modern times.

It is becoming more and more apparent that conservatives actually do see him as a god, and it drives them fucking nuts! They assign superhuman powers to him and they whine that he is using those powers against them. So much easier than facing their own deficiencies and correcting them.

They are demonstrating so very clearly that overriding fear that white bigots have always had about black men, that irrational racist fear that drives them to marginalize and dehumanize them. They absolutely cannot believe or accept that most of the country voted for him and support him.

I am so proud of President Obama and his family.

Many of the Tea-vangelicals actually believe that President Obama is the antichrist of biblical fame.

Most of the Christian supremacists also believe we are in the "end times".

That fact alone is very central to their thinking, and we are SOOOOOOooooo fortunate that Caribou Barbie never ended up in a position of power.

Can't you just see $arah meeting with the Joint Chiefs of staff with her push-up bra, a 1950's style wig, and naught monkey shoes?

  15. I think this is less a stealth master plan and more a happy perk.

Face it. The Republicans did this to themselves. They did it by allowing the 'baggers to have veto power over every little thing, thus gridlocking every and all hope for progress. They did it by bowing down and worshiping Grover Norquist. They did it through their past years of obstruction and single minded goal of making sure Obama never got re-elected.

    And then he did.

I think the fracturing of the Republican party is only a delicious by-product of what has become business as usual in Congress.

If the Republicans are smart, they'll dump Böhner asap and get a real leader. Someone willing to accept reality and compromise and develop some bipartisan agreements.

If they want to blame this on Obama, like they do everything else, well then, that's Okay too. It will just strengthen his legacy and justify Time's choice for this year's Person of the Year.

When Nixon became vice president, the rush to self-destruction began among Republicans. It took a few decades but, since no one ever emerged who put country before party, today is the result. They cannot blame the Democrats for their present plight. Republicans have been selling their souls for votes for a very long time now and there is no one left in the Republican Party who can even remember caring more about the American people than whatever it is that 21st century Republicans care about. When the last Republican senator who opposed Nixon during Watergate died, the last decent Republican died.

Absolutely correct. First it was to the religious right and then it was to the corporations. Like cheap hookers, they will sell themselves to anyone who can come up with the right amount of money, regardless of ethics or morality. The only principles that the GOP hold are to obtain money and power. This will eventually lead to their destruction when enough of the American people recognize that they are an insignificant means to an end for the Republican Party.

...With Obama’s reelection, the Defense of Marriage Act became known as the Defense of Straight Supremacy Act (DOSSA) and was quickly dumped. Liberals throughout the nation celebrated. Christian fundamentalist protestors filled the streets but then retreated as gay orgies bloomed in broad daylight on every street in America. Heterosexual couples immediately felt the effects of DOSSA’s collapse and their marriages began to disintegrate with the sheer force of erotic energy in the air and water supply. Closeted homosexuals left their marriages in droves. Many heterosexuals divorced because the institution was no longer “sacred” now that they had to check the same box on forms as their LGBTQQIA colleagues and neighbors, not to mention family members they’d shunned or disowned.

Obama made the landmark decision to come out of the closet and announced that both he and Michelle were gay. Like so many, theirs was a marriage of convenience. While Democrats were disappointed to see the first family separate, no one was surprised. Finally, there was a politically correct explanation for Barack’s ability to dance and Michelle’s biceps. Barack became the first gay single father President and Michelle the first lesbian First Lady. After their divorce, Michelle and the girls (and Bo) continued to live in the White House while Barack rented a studio apartment a short commute away. Michelle eventually remarried Rachel Maddow and the first daughters had two moms. Barack remarried Chris Rock (after he also came out) and the first daughters had two dads.

As each year passed, Obama’s legacy ensured that the homosexual agenda to take over the nation and then the world gained momentum. Homosexuals entered a new era of enjoying basic human civil rights while wielding maximum political power. By coincidence, the Senate and Congress were both 100 percent gay when the United States of America was renamed the United States of Queerica.

When Obama passed the baton, he once again made history. A fat activist, Islamic Fundamentalist, Cadillac-driving welfare recipient who was equal parts African-American, Cuban, Vietnamese, Jewish, Palestinian, Native-American, Italian, and Unknown Origin who identified as a stone butch LGBTQQIA single mother of four children (from four sperm donors) became President of the United States of Queerica.

With the election of President Quintasia Hussein Minh Castro Mussolini Laughing-Fox, there was a brief bubble of controversy when it was proven that President Laughing-Fox was not an American Citizen but born in an underground bunker in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

omg, there's so much more...the religious rights' nightmare imagining of Queerica.

As I set out to write this political satire, I was trying to fathom some of the more extreme Republican/Tea Party & Christian Fundamentalist fears about gay marriage rights & another 4 years of Obama that have been circulating. “What is it they’re afraid of?” I’ve been asking myself. However, the farther I took this farce, the more I realized that their worst nightmare (legally & socially) HAS BEEN—OR STILL IS— status quo for the LGBT community. When satire and reality blend so smoothly, you know there’s a problem.

Solving the debt problem is not urgent.

Solving the economy problem IS urgent. Tax increases on middle-class and poorer people, plus reduced spending (i.e., major layoffs) will push us back into depression/recession. Tax increases in the wealthy are only fair.

The basic rule for gov't is spend in recession, cut back in prosperity. Otherwise you just make a recession worse, and prosperity turns into inflation.

I was talking to my sister the other day about the difference between the Kennedy family and the Romneys. The Kennedys, while coming from a family dynasty of wealth and power, have always felt the need to give back by means of public service. They believed that they owed the American public a debt because of the good fortune that was bestowed on them, and they have found many different ways to repay that debt.

The Romneys, on the other hand, feel that the world owes THEM everything and that good fortune and success should be bestowed on them just because they deserve it and it's 'their turn' to be in the fancy white house.

Quite a dramatic difference in perspective and most likely the reason that so many middle class and poor people have always supported the Kennedys.
