Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Just in case you thought I was exaggerating about Les Mis.
"We've been to funerals of family members where we cried less."
Gryphen, I saw it yesterday and thought it was SPECTACULAR!
It make me so grateful that I wasn't born during that time in history, and deeply respectful for the people who fought so hard against the oligarchy. The courage, the bravery.
I thought Ann Hathaway was stunning in her role and her voice was gorgeous.
I nearly gagged when they had to go through the sewers, but then it showed such a deep love for his daughter and the goodness of Jean Val Jean.
The music, the costumes, the makeup, the photography, the amazing talented children with their crystal voices...all of it, was breathtaking.
That those actors could sing and act and cry all at the same time was impressive. That takes some major concentration.
Russell Crowe needs to breath from his diaphram when he sings, he was the least impressive for me as far as the singing. Hugh Jackman really showed his talent in a whole new way and I really can't rave enough about Ms. Hathaway.
I had seen the stage play and I have to say that I enjoyed the movie so much more. Thought the professional singing voices from the stage play were better, the story was much easier to follow in the movie. I could watch it again in a heartbeat.
Finally, I left the movie grateful that I wasn't a poor woman during that period in history...geesh.
I don't need to see the movie to cry. Many years ago one of the touring companies was coming to Roanoke, VA. I had a grand total of $100 to spend on Christmas for my 7 kids. I asked them if they'd rather have tickets or presents. I must have done something right, because they all opted for the $15 nosebleed seats at the Civic Center. There wasn't enough for a ticket for me, so I waited outside.
They were amazed. Thanks to the public library, we listened to the soundtrack over and over. When the local public TV station ran the Albert Hall performance, we videotaped it and watched again and again.
About 10 years later, Les Miz again came into my life. My oldest son was killed in an accident, and the song "Bring Him Home" was part of his funeral service. I'd held it together until that song, but then I broke down, knowing how much joy that music had given him.
So yes, I'll go see the movies, but I'm bringing a towel. Don't think a box of kleenex will do.
I saw this yesterday and thought of you!
ReplyDeleteTMZ is reporting that Tawd's brother is getting divorced. The story is also on the Daily Mail.
ReplyDeleteDidn't even know Tawd had a brother. Who the hell cares about the nobody brother of a nobody husband of a nobody shrew?
DeleteIsn't it good that there are movies made to help us release all our pent up tears?! Pretty cheap therapy session.
ReplyDelete"Pennies From Heaven" (Steve Martin/Bernadette Peters)is of the same genre.
DeleteYeah, I read the book a long time ago. I think I'll skip the movie.
ReplyDeleteShe's all verklempt!...and they're all talking amongst themselves.

"Les Miserables" translates to "the miserable ones"
ReplyDelete-- those in the audience.
I'll pass, I could barely stomach Chicago and that one Nicole Kidman was in.
ReplyDeleteKidman was not in Chicago. It was Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago.
DeleteKidman was in Moulin Rouge
The Trailer Trash family are divorcing like flies!!!
ReplyDeleteNow it's Todd's brother & his wife after 12 years -- split in July.
One of the comments at Huff:
"That "traditional Christian family value" thing...how's that workin for ya?" (LOL!!!!!!)
