On Sunday President Obama gave one of the most powerful speeches of his life, in response to a terrible tragedy. For a few football fans his message fell on deaf ears.

Courtesy of Deadspin:

NBC pre-empted the first quarter of tonight's 49ers-Patriots game to show President Obama's speech at the Newtown memorial for victims of the Sandy Hook shooting. As you might expect, many football fans didn't take kindly to this. (So, too, some Bob's Burgers fans.) Here are those idiots, led by someone who claims to be a Division II football player in the state of Alabama.

There are quite literally dozens more over at Deadspin which you can see by clicking the link at the top. Interestingly enough a number of the Twitter accounts have now been closed out, or made private, or the tweets themselves are simply missing.

From what I read while researching this the individuals involved received a substantial amount of flack for their incredibly insensitive statements. As well they should.

Somebody on another thread mentioned how sad it was that the people in the Newtown auditorium where the President gave his speech last night had to remain sitting while he exited the building.

That is indeed sad, but we surely cannot blame the Secret Service for an abundance of caution while protecting a man that has become the MOST threatened President in US history.

A little O/T but timely: RAM or some other hack wrote up a screed for $arah.

Now maybe even in the midst of her feuds and fights, she has moments of regret and reflection.

None of us will likely know, but she says this today:

    Quote:
I am so overwhelmed by the miraculous answers to my prayers that the comforting, secure hope I cling to is too inexplicable for a simpleminded person like me.

Ok, $arah, (RAM) you hit all the high points here like CLINGERS, and PRAYERS.

But $arah, tell us you are not simple minded, are ya really, also too?

The RW talking points are to bury their heads in the sand until someone figures out how to handle their assault weapons problems.

Palins aren't going to watch the news, services about Sandy Hook. It is more like when Bush told people to go shopping.

Yes, Sarah is too simple-minded to write her own Facebook postings. Her NRA worship is more important to her than sympathy for murdered adults and children. Sarah Palin needs to STFU until she is ready to confess about the PIMPING and THE FAKE Birth of Trig. Sarah Palin is IRRELEVANT.

In Sarah's mind the shootings are all relate back to her. She doesn't dare but I'll bet in her mind she's going over and over what she would say if she could give another blood libel speech.

I engaged with the hermaphrodite on the DeadSpin article going by the name of Liz Micheals who claimed to be an ex California Anchor woman...anyway I followed her from twitter to facebook and commented to her there. She had NO remorse whatsoever, and was the most vile hateful person I've ever encountered. I compared her thought process - which was all over the place - to Palin, and guess what? She's a massive fan! Surprise, surprise! I found it very difficult to believe she was an anchorwoman with those looks to be honest. Let us just say that her outside reflected the inner absolutely perfectly. I got her to engage with me by first offering her a shred of sympathy, thinking that it was a harsh punishment (years of unemployability) for something that could have been a stupid mistake...but no, she was actually very proud of the attention and what she had done, and was even stumping for a possible radio show. I told her good luck with the job hunt, that she would probably have many long years of sleeping til noon ahead of her and that even wingnutty sites would veer clear, though maybe Stormfront would offer her an opening! What a horrific person. She deserves every bit of sorrow coming her way. I rechecked her facebook page today and her ramblings are scrubbed clean and her page is very short on 2012 postings now. She couldn't take what she dished out!

Newton's residents have been battling the stockpiling guns issue in their little town recently to no avail."...in the last couple of years, residents began noticing loud, repeated gunfire, and even explosions, coming from new places. Near a trailer park. By a boat launch. Next to well-appointed houses...."

"...recent efforts by the police chief and other town leaders to gain some control over the shooting and the weaponry turned into a tumultuous civic fight, with traditional hunters and discreet gun owners opposed by assault weapon enthusiasts, and a modest tolerance for bearing arms competing with the staunch views of a gun industry trade association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which has made Newtown its home...

Something needs to be done,” said Joel T. Faxon, a hunter and a member of the town’s police commission, who championed the shooting restrictions. “These are not normal guns, that people need. These are guns for an arsenal, and you get lunatics like this guy who goes into a school fully armed and protected to take return fire.

....We live in a town, not in a war.”

Scarborough: My Views On Guns Have Changed After Massacre

Joe Scarborough said on Monday that the massacre in Newtown had forced him to rethink his "long-held" belief about gun rights.

In a lengthy monologue, Scarborough talked about how shaken up he had been by the killing of 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday. He noted that his children's ages averaged that of some of the murdered victims.

"From this day forward, nothing can ever be the same again," he said. "... Let this be our true landmark ... politicians can no longer be allowed to defend the status quo."

He said that he was a "conservative Republican" who had been solidly aligned with the NRA during his time in Congress, and had previously held libertarian views on the Second Amendment. But he added that Friday "changed everything":

"I knew that day that the ideologies of my past career were no longer relevant to the future that I want, that I demand for my children. Friday changed everything. It must change everything. We all must begin anew and demand that Washington's old way of doing business is no longer acceptable. Entertainment moguls don't have an absolute right to glorify murder while spreading mayhem in young minds across America. And our Bill of Rights does not guarantee gun manufacturers the absolute right to sell military-style, high-caliber, semi-automatic combat assault rifles with high-capacity magazines to whoever the hell they want.
It is time for Congress to put children before deadly dogmas. It's time for politicians to start focusing more on protecting our schoolyards than putting together their next fundraiser. It's time for Washington to stop trying to win endless wars overseas when we're losing the war at home ... For the sake of my four children and yours, I choose life and I choose change."

CNN anchor Don Lemon on Monday made an impassioned plea for more stringent restrictions on assault weapons like the one used by Adam Lanza in last week's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.

"Who needs an assault rifle to go hunting?" Lemon said during a broadcast on the cable news network. "You can't even use the prey that you kill with an assault rifle if you indeed do it. No one needs an assault rifle to go out and shoot a deer. No one needs an assault rifle that's capable of shooting 10, 20, 30 rounds off at the same time to shoot a duck or to shoot quail. It does not make sense."

NFL Player Victor Cruz Honors 6-Year-Old Shooting Victim By Wearing His Name On Sunday

NFL player Victor Cruz, wide receiver for the New York Giants, plans to honor 6-year-old shooting victim Jack Pinto by wearing the boy’s name on his cleats and gloves during Sunday’s game. Pinto was a fan of both the Giants and Cruz and after learning this, Cruz reached out to Pinto’s family to offer his condolences.

The Giants’ star receiver wore the name “Jack Pinto” on his cleats and gloves during the Giants’ tough, 34-0 loss to Atlanta in honor of a six-year-old boy killed during the mass school shooting on Friday morning. Cruz called Jack’s family after learning he was a huge fan of Cruz and the Giants.

Jack was such a big fan of Cruz that his family is even considering burying him in Cruz’s No. 80 Giants jersey, Cruz said. “It was very humbling to hear how big of a fan he was and how they were thinking about putting my jersey on him for the services,” Cruz said. “It was an emotional time. It really shows you what type of effect that athletes have on kids. Not just seeing you on TV. They want to be you. They idolize you. They wear your jersey everywhere.

“It really showed me how real it is to be a role model. It was definitely humbling for sure.”

It finally happened. Just now. While reading the comment above about Jack Pinto. I broke completely down and went into the snotty sobs. You see, this is the first time I've cried since I heard about this. I knew I would, just didn't know when and where.

As I started reading that comment, a song came on the radio. I crumbled, finally. This was the song.

Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow. But if we are wise, we know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on me when you're not strong. And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on. For it won't be long til I'm going to need somebody to lean on.

If there is a load you have to bear that you can't carry. I'm up the road, I'll share your load, if you just call me. Thanks, Bill Withers.

Of course, that's not the entire song. Just a couple verses.

I've been silent since Fri. I haven't left a single word anywhere. I have no words. Still don't really. But I've done a LOT of reading.

Fellow humans and Americans, What the fuck is wrong with us? We are sick. We are broken. What IS it going to take? Does anyone really believe that the solution is to day after day after day get on the net and start slinging insults and name calling? REALLY?

Has this EVER solved anything? Do you think it's constructive or destructive? Is it helping an already explosive situation? Does it help when different groups of people daily, hourly, are going thru the: "You suck." No! You suck. Well you're an idiot. Oh yea, you're a moron. So what, you're a cousin humper. Really, you're white trash. Your mom is ugly. Fuck you, your dad is a baby humper."

Come on EVERYBODY, aren't we better than this? Or are we? Please, just think about it. Am I part of the problem? What can I do to try to make it better?

You know what gang? If we don't stand together, we ARE going to fall apart.
