Rupert Murdoch poised to gain a media monopoly in America, and the FCC poised to just let that shit happen. WTF Obama administration?

Courtesy of Truthout:

Unsatisfied with his media empire in the UK and Australia and his several media holdings in the United States like TheWall Street Journal, the New York Post, and Fox News, Rupert Murdoch wants more. He wants a media monopoly.

Murdoch is currently jockeying to buy the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune, which just so happen to be the largest newspapers in the nation’s second and third largest cities. That will add to his current media empire in the United States, which includes the most watched cable news network in the nation, Fox so-called News, and the most circulated newspaper in the nation, The Wall Street Journal.

The only thing standing in Murdoch’s way of full-spectrum media domination in America are Federal Communication Commission rules that forbid one company from owning both a newspaper and a television station in one community. Murdoch already owns local television stations in both Chicago and Los Angeles.

But according to sources within the FCC, Chairman Julius Genachowski is quietly planning to scrap those rules. Under pressure from major media moguls like Murdoch, who see big bucks and huge political power in a consolidated national and local media, Genachowski circulated a new order to other FCC Commissioners that would allow for cross-ownership of TV and newspapers in the nation’s twenty biggest media markets.

A similar effort was made in 2007 by George W. Bush’s FCC, but it was shot down after the Senate voted to repeal it and a federal court blocked it. Not to mention, 99% of the public comments the FCC received opposed that media consolidation effort.

But, undeterred, Murdoch and other media moguls kept lobbying, and now President Obama’s FCC is expected to consider these rule changes again in December. And if Americans don’t get involved in this issue and pressure the FCC to say “no,” then Murdoch and his billionaire buddies will likely get what they want, which is complete domination of our news media.

Okay what part of Rupert Murdoch has poisoned the journalistic integrity in America, and is a cancerous tumor on the spine of our media that should be removed immediately, don't these people get?

In short we don't want to give this Australian douchnozzle MORE influence and power, we want to take the influence and power he already has away!

And by the way isn't Murdoch still under investigation by the FBI?

Since when do we break the rules in favor of those in charge of criminal organizations who are currently under investigating by the federal government? (Fox News is complicit in helping to steal two presidential elections so yes they are a criminal organization in my book.)

Now if you will excuse me I have to go bang my head against a wall for a few minutes.

Son-of-a-bitch!

Update: You can sign a petition to let the FCC know you are against allowing Murdoch more dominion over our media by clicking here.

It doesn't say the Obama administration is going to allow it to go through -- just that they are considering it again. I think the point of the article is to freak people out so that they leave comments against it on the FCC page.

Just because Murdoch is 'poised to do it', does not mean it is going to happen

Dear FCC, please don;t give the sharpei anymore news outlets. His itchy skin condition makes him irresponsible and nasty, and he just lifts his leg on journalistic integrity.

Major poops. One of my columns used to run at the Los Angeles Times and I still write for two Chicago Tribune offshoots -- would hate to see MurCock become my new boss.

  10. This is standard operating procedure in America for the 1% who want what they want. You just keep trying over and over until you finally get your way.

The absentee landlord who owns the property next to me did this. He paved his entire front yard, over the allowable limit. But since it was done code enforcement gave him a pass. Then he applied for a curb cut for a driveway, which should have been illegal since there was less than a car length between him and the next curb cut (4 ft.) He was denied three times. The fourth time he got an idiot that didn't know the law, didn't check, was lazy or just a complete moron. It was approved and we lost two parking spaced on the street so he could have his driveway.

These people know. You just keep applying, keep trying over and over until you eventually get your way.

It is why we must be constantly diligent about net neutrality. They've tried and failed several times. But they'll keep at it until they own and control the net.

    Then we are totally screwed.

The U.S. welcomed his money with open arms and were only too happy to make him an American and give him the power to destroy the culture. IIRC no Americans were calling him "Australian" - as though it were an insult - in their rush to make him one of their own.
