There is a lot of news to report, but let's face it, this is all ANYBODY will be talking about today. The Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant.

Courtesy of the New York Daily News:

The future king of England and his beautiful bride are having a little prince — or princess.

The royal palace announced Monday that Prince William and wife Kate, the duke and duchess of Cambridge, are having a baby.

“The queen, the duke of Edinburgh, the prince of Wales, the duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news,” the palace said in a statement.

The royals spilled the beans after lovely Kate was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, more commonly known as morning sickness.

Now I am not really much of a "royal watcher" so I have not been keeping up on the doings across the pond with this lovely couple, but I did happen to hear a rumor earlier that the Duchess might be expecting, but then there was never any follow up. Until today of course.

I'm glad that THEY got to announce this news instead of one of Rupert Murdoch's sleazy tabloid phone hackers.  It just seems so much more dignified this way.

Now like I said I am certainly not a royal watcher, but if I were I think that this couple would be my favorite. I have always had a great admiration for how Prince William has conducted himself, and dealt with his mother's tragic death and incredible scrutiny he has been under since his birth, and Kate Middleton is incredibly classy and reminds me very much of the late Princess Diana in that she is still seemingly unaffected by her new station in life and does not act spoiled or entitled.

Isn't Kate the Duchess of Cambridge? Isn't Sarah Fergusan the Duchess of York, what you wrote in the title?

    1. Hey, you fooled me anyway, G. I just look at the pictures on the front of tabloids when I go through the grocery store. But unlike all-around expert Sarah Palin, I do not devour them or even pick them up.

Okay, here's my marketing idea for the day (Best of all, it's FREE!)

If you want to increase clicks from cinder-block-head guys like me, put a photo of Pippa on your blog every day. She's mighty perty, and Kate ain't bad either.

Not that there couldn't have been. These two have been an item for a decade and they lived together (shared a flat) for some time. Guess Kate is better at remembering to take her cramp pills.

This news actually brought a tear to my eye.

Way back in the day I like so many others watched the wedding of Charles and Diana. Again like so many others, I developed a fascination with Diana, and bought many magazines with her (and later, her and William) on the cover, including British magazines dedicated to royalty coverage.

The interest gradually waned as we all aged, but it did renew a bit when Kate Middleton entered the picture. I no longer believe in fairy tales and happy endings, but if there are any two I might wish that for, it's these two. And the reason is the same as what you stated, Gryphen. They are class acts under the most relentless and merciless pressure.

I do hope they have a little girl.

  7. I sure hope the paparazzo treats her better than Diana. If they don’t, they’ll be up against William and even Harry; those guys won’t dick around like Charles.

Royal-watching is one of my guilty pleasures.

My husband mocks it but he watched The Queen (loved it!) and The King’s Speech (loved it!). I think he generally likes the people, it’s the monarchy as an institution he deems useless and predatory.

  8. The Brits got it slightly wrong: hyperemesis gravidarum is not just "morning sickness," but such severe nausea/vomiting that ginger ale and saltines don't do the trick. The pregnant woman needs to be hospitalized for intravenous rehydration and monitoring.

Ask the mom who's had it!

    1. I had it, too, with my second son and was hospitalised for a week! Of course, that was 31 years ago; I'd assumed they'd made strides in treating it.

She has my sympathy. I had "morning sickness" my entire pregnancy, sometimes to the point of not keeping anything down for days. Never was hospitalized (couldn't afford it), but I'm glad she is getting help.

It was the forgetting and then the screwing and then the telling others that abstinence was not realistic (so true) and then making $$ off telling other vulnerable girls that they should be abstinent. You should be sued by every pregnant teen who attended your silly speeches.

Diana was beautiful, but seemed kind of neurotic and depressed - not as mentally healthy as Kate.

There's also the fact that Charles always loved Camilla where, as far as we know, William only loves Kate.

Both of these things make Kate much more fun to watch than Diana was.

Kate is much more stable of a personality than Diana ever was. Also, Diana was "thrown to the wolves" pretty much and didn't have a clue as to what Royal Life was really going to entail. And it doesn't help when you are in love with your husband who is in love with someone else.

Kate is smart, educated, well-grounded and has the love and support of her husband who WILL NOT let happen to Kate what happened to his Mum.

Congrats to the Duke and Duchess and I hope Kate gets over this part of her pregnancy quickly and then can enjoy the fun parts of growing a baby.

Remember when she tweeted Dr Laura who was dropped from Talk radio for saying the word *nigger* 11 times within just a few minutes to a female African-American caller during her show... Sarah told Dr Laura to "Don't retreat...RELOAD".

Princess Diana produced an "heir and spare" for the Windsors. Kate will be 31 when this baby is born. Getting the second one out by age 35 shouldn't be too hard. Especially because she doesn't have to produce boys.

The Windsors have run a fairly successful breeding program since the disaster of Victoria's hemophilia genetic mutation. But Prince Harry is a wildcard. To keep him out of the line up, they'll probably push Kate for a couple extras. AND get her offspring into the breeding program as soon as possible.

Kate was not born into the "aristocracy", i.e. she was a "commoner". Presumably that will introduce some genetic variety into the "royal" strain.

And it doesn't hurt that Kate is photogenic. The offspring have a good chance of keeping the creaking monarchy nonsense going for another century.

The Brits are good at breed management. They do well with horses too.
