Well it looks like John McCain got his way. John Kerry to be named Secretary of State.

Courtesy of ABC News:

Sources tell ABC News that President Obama has decided that he will nominate Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to be secretary of state.

For a variety of reasons including the finalization of the process, other pending Cabinet decisions, and — more immediately — the national reaction to the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the news will not be announced in the next few days.

I am sure that Senator Kerry is more than capable of doing the job, but I am certainly not happy that the Republicans walk away from this feeling like winners after the hatchet job they did on Susan Rice.

And here I thought John McCain might get tired of doing things to harm America after inflicting Sarah Palin on the country.

Too bad I don't believe in hell, because I would certainly like to think he had a special place all reserved for him there.

  3. Well, fuck. Way to cave to the GOP. Now they think they're calling the shots.

And if that asshole Scott Brown takes Kerry's seat, it will be even worse.

What was wrong with Chuck Hagel? Why even bother to interview him

Thinking you're calling the shots is not the same thing as calling the shots.

Scott Brown can't win, and Hagel was always going to be Secretary of Defense.

John McCain is one of the most DESPICABLE human beings that I've ever witnessed breathing oxygen in the public arena. He befouls the halls of Congress. He defiles the honor of this country. He snarls and spews and spits and pontificates as if anything he says is worthwhile. It isn't. It's opportunistic, overly dramatic, dishonest and full of partisan hackery. He's always been a lowlife loser...yep, Sarah's 'soul mate' for sure. This country would be a better place if John 'spilled his guts like a coward' McCain had died in that POW prison. And yes, I MEAN IT.

However, Susan Rice may or may not have been President Obama's first pick, we don't really know that for sure, though the gloating of the Graham/McCain/Ayotte trio is sickening.

John Kerry has served long and well and we'll see if the GOP keep their promise of a swift 'vetting' process to full approval. I won't hold my breath.

Yes, he DID spill his guts for the "hero" he is. He's damn lucky he didn't win 2008 because the Palin mafia would have had him poisoned within a year to make it look like an "accident" just like they have done so many others that have got in their way.

Peas in a POD. Match made in hell.

  5. And now we have one more fight we need to step up and win...no victory for the GOP or Scott Brown or any of those miserable connivers who have orchestrated this. We can do it again. We will never be able to relax and let our guard down against these vile people. Did anyone doubt that they would be back with their sneaky tricks?

And I wish John Kerry all the best in his new position.

You are SO right! The only reason the GOP has won things is that they NEVER relax. They NEVER let their guard down. They are always planning years in advance how to cheat the people. The only way we can fight back is to take a lesson from them...we can NEVER relax. We will not stop, can not stop. EVER.

Two words: Barney Frank. Heard of him? He could be appointed the interim senator for the next two years...He's a stout (no pun intended) liberal.. and his appointment would prohibit the conservaturds from gaining a foothold....

  9. I think that maybe this was a bargaining chip used to get John Boehner to agree to the taxing of the 2%. Word has it he has agreed to a deal with the President. Still, both are speculations.

Your avatar sends a cold chill up my spine.

I don't think the President would use a Sec of State nomination as a bargaining chip. It's a very important position. Besides, he has no need to bargain with Boehner, as he has already won.

I think the President nominated exactly who he wanted in that position.

    2. Dancingthroughlife7:03 AM

Cracklin Charlie, just because it was used as a bargaining chip doesn't mean Obama gave anything up. He just held his cards close to the vest and waited for McCain et al to put on their little show. If he wanted Kerry in the first place, waiting to announce it gave him leveraging power with the GOP: 'I'll agree to nominate Kerry and give up on Rice (wink, wink) if you're willing to make some concessions on the fiscal cliff issue.' This way he got two things he wanted instead of one, playing the GOP in the process. Our President has made many moves that people questioned at first which then revealed themselves to be wise choices.

We in Massachusetts are ready for Scott Brown, or whoever the GOP decides to throw into the race. He was a one-trick pony, and there won't be another Republican from this blue state for many a year. They can smirk all the way to the special election, when they'll get their tails kicked.

Let us not ever repeat the democratic malaise/indecision that happened in mid term elections 2010. We will NEVER give up. We remain Fired Up & Ready to Go Massachusettes! Thanks for giving the rest of us faith in your citizens voice and with Obama the master chess player we will keep it up! Our votes and awareness do count in every election no matter how big or small. Learned that lesson from everyone in Alaska who ever voted Mayor Palin into power and lived to regret it.

Oh by the way, I was watching Scott Brown's concession after he lost the election. I couldn't believe how long it went on. He continually was winking and obviously schmoozing the audience and high-fiving his friends from the podium. I got disgusted watching him like he thinks he's a movie star milking his last speech for all it was worth & turned the channel. I went back 20-30 minutes later and he was still there! I was surprised he wasn't pimping out his daughers' talents by then - I was expecting him to any minute. Longest and most pompus concession ever in history!

The very last thing on their little minds it to SERVE the people. They serve the NRA, Grover, the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson- NEVER US.

You know the republicans fought and fought to make sure Elizabeth Warren was not confirmed as the head of the newly created Consumer Protection Agency.

She then went on to defeat a Republican Senator that would have skated to a win otherwise. In the campaign he showed his true colors with the American Indian insults, demeaning a Harvard professor in a highly educated state that takes great pride in their Harvard University, and admitting that Scalia is his favorite SC justice in a left leaning state. He voted against the Lilly Ledbetter act, voted against the appointment of Elena Kagan and anything to do with the environment. He lost by a large amount and the people of Massachusetts are not enchanted with him as they once were. He has an uphill battle for him.

Besides Senator Kerry only has two years left and he would have to campaign again in 2014. He will either wait until 2016 or try to run for Governor.

I am not from Massachusetts but live 2 miles from the border in the now heart broken state of Connecticut.

Someone did a great article on the Huffington Post shortly after the election on all the things Republicans have done to obstruct that has backfired on them. Wish I could remember them all.

I find great solice in that and the fact that McCain has the Palin poison cursing thru his veins. He may have won the Susan Rice battle but lost even more respect, if that was possible. He will die in disgrace, I feel that in my bones.

And of course I trust Obama's long game.

McCain will die in disgrace and the nation hates watching what he has done - his open hate towards Susan Rice - let alone towards Obama. His true colors are out. What a phony balony but then again look who he picked for VP who he will protect until his dying day which cannot come soon enough.

Maybe John Kerry wants to run for President in 2016???

I don't think McCain won anything in this battle. Once again, as is his pattern, he acted rashly, criticizing an intelligent, well-qualified individual who had not even been nominated. And to top it off, the un-nominated candidate was a highly educated, accomplished woman. Do you think McCain will now be so quick to get his creepy doll face on teevee and criticize John Kerry? Not likely.

Result: The President's real nominee for Secretary of State is easily confirmed, Rice is still UN Ambassador, and McCain ends up looking like a dick, again. Suck it, John.

Why didn't Old Senile John McCain nominate Sarah Palin for Secretary of State?

If McCain was comfortable with the Wasilla Hill Billy being an old man's heartbeat from the nuclear codes then Sarah should be more than qualified to be Secretary of State.

I don't know...I think McCain WANTED the President to nominate Susan Rice. I think the GOP was itching to have her to pile on for a couple of months, and they tried to bully the President into nominating her.

I would think they would find John Kerry a much more formidable opponent in their obstructionist wars; and, I believe that he is no good friend to the oil companies, or the megabankers.

This President is so good at politics...he sat back while McCain and the GOP shot their obstruction wad over a candidate that was never even nominated. Smooth sailing for the real nominee. Sometimes they make it too easy for him.

Bless Kerry's heart, he's got a tough act to follow...but he'll do a great job as Secretary of State. And I don't really think the Democrats are all that worried about Lightweight Scott Brown. He won't be able to get much financial support from the big money guys, having just had his ass handed to him by Elizabeth Warren.

McCain thinks he "won" something, but I don't think he's prepared for whatever POTUS has in mind. McCain's just not smart.

As usual I agree with the basic opinions here, he is scum and disgraces the Senate with word and deed. I urge all to read the true story about McCain done in Rolling Stone by the great Matt Taibi, it opened my eyes to this fraud during the 2008 election. His entire life has been a hoax, esp the war hero part, his nickname was "songbird" in the Hanoi Hilton. When you see Arizona re elect that horror of Jan Brewer...can you wonder how they keep McCain? One of the many states that need to wake the frig up. I will keep the faith of our pres as the chess king and how he plays the long game, it all seems so trivial when you consider those precious babies and their beloved teachers. If only life and death were fair.

  23. Why does it have to be winners and losers. President Obama is no doubt very keen and happy with John Kerry as SOS. Nothing gets by him that he doesn't want. The GOP in the Senate will have a problem arguing against Sen Kerry - so it will be a fast and easy confirmation.
John McCain is senile - and has no power. Sarah Palin seems to be starving herself into a nothing.
