John Cornelius will be ordained a Roman Catholic priest this weekend — and with the blessing of his wife they're giving up their sex life.
Cornelius, a father of three, will become the first married Roman Catholic priest in New York — and Sharyl, his wife of 33-years, has agreed to the whole celibacy thing.
“We have decided to do that voluntarily,” Cornelius told WGRZ-TV. “I have always had friends that are Roman Catholic priests and I appreciate what they've given up to serve God and the priesthood.”
Cornelius, 64, is a former Episcopalian priest who converted three years ago to Catholicism. He said his old church had gotten too liberal for him.
“There was the ordination of the homosexual priest in New England,” he said. “Then it came time for women's ordination. ... It may have been okay for other people, but it was just too much for me.
“I needed someplace where there was order,” he added.
Okay not to be shallow, but looking at the two of them in the picture at the top, do we really believe that either the wife or the husband are going to be missing the sex? Somehow I think that celibacy has been a part of their marriage for quite some time, being ordained a Catholic priest just makes it official.
And they say that gay rights will not have any effect on heterosexual marriage. Really ? Look what it did to this "happy" couple!
Though to be fair it seems that the ordination of the gay priest just about pushed him over the edge, but it was the ordination of those sinful women as priests that proved too much for Father Misogyny here.
H/T to Joe My God.
Watch for further developments as Sharyl marries her best friend Susie.
ReplyDeleteI'm in no way coming to this couple's defense, but people over 55 do actually have good sex lives regardless of looks and body fat. Who do you think takes all the Viagra?
ReplyDeleteYes dear, but those people LIKE each other. This woman probably jumped for joy when she heard she wouldn't have to fake it for Mr Titchy Todger any more!
Delete* I just love British slang!
“I needed someplace where there was order,” he added.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't be too long before he'll be calling 911 to come get the ball gag and handcuffs off
or
boinking all the little kiddies in the parish.
(Honestly why (why, WHY, WHY!!!) do these two people think anybody is interested in their penis/vagina activity. They look boring as hell.)
He’s no Brad Pitt, but I’d still sneak it… who’s to know? Then he’d have his forbidden fruit and he’d be happy.
ReplyDeleteI hope he gave her a Trojan Twister as a parting gift....
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm afraid to ask but what is that?
DeleteWith a handle like "tinytwotone" I figured you'd know all about things like this ;-)
DeleteNFSW, maybe...

Sounds like a story from the Onion.?????? Strange.
ReplyDeleteSo many headlines from the right wing sound as if they are from the Onion. I often wonder how the Onion can keep going with all the competition.
DeleteHeh. I'll bet the wife was MORE than happy to agree to a celibate 'relationship' with him.
ReplyDeleteI imagine there was no action in that marriage anyway.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to shock you, but "unattractive" people have sex. Lots of it. I mean, look around.
DeleteWomen were ordained as priests long before Bishop Robinson came into the national spotlight. The guy needs to get his facts straight if he is going to get all huffy.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess, he would rather be associated with a church that is full of pedophiles...
ReplyDeleteGood point. Nothing says conservative" like sexual perversion. everyone agrees that pedophiles are preferable to women.
DeleteOh I am sure Mr. Softee is giving up a lot here.
ReplyDeleteHere is a link detailing the ordination timeline of women.

further, mr. cornelious has also vowed that he will no longer be requiring the need for a neck.
ReplyDeleteLOL the BEST comment over there:

She probably suggested it!
I've been Episcopalian all my life and I like it for all the reasons Cornelius doesn't. Forward, non--judgemental thinking and we aren't Bible thumpers.
ReplyDeleteYou hear few Episcopalians trying to convert people. We're taught to let actions speak--not words--and if people want to follow you to the Episcopalian faith because of your actions, that's fine. But don't push.
Very accepting.
I wish Cornelius well and think he will be happier elsewhere as he says.
I think the 'conversion' was her idea when she realized he would have to be celibate.
ReplyDeleteYes, also because if he didn't have a job he would be around all the time.
DeleteBlatant discrimination is "order"?
ReplyDeleteFuck you too, dude. You'll fit in just fine with the child rapists and Nazis.
Catholic priests cannot be married. I have heard of older men joining the priesthood as widowers, but never as married men...celibate notwithstanding.
ReplyDeleteAgain, good grief. What next?
ReplyDeleteMy late brother John was a Catholic priest, and I learned a lot about the Church from him. This guy is missing the whole point of Catholic clerical celibacy -- it's not just giving up sex, but giving up having any "special" relationship with anyone other than God. This guy thinks he's gonna have his Catholic collar and still maintain his special relationship with his wife and that will be okay as long as they don't screw? Wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn some countries where being openly a Catholic could be a death sentence (see: Communist countries before the fall of the Soviet Union), the Vatican would ordain "secret" priests, most of whom were married. The Vatican waived the vow of celibacy for these priests as a necessity to keep the Church alive.
Mind, in the same circumstances, they never considered ordaining any women.
I was taught in Sunday School that having a vocation to be a priest, or brother, or nun, was an inviolable command that came from God. Anyone who attempted to interfere with this vocation was committing a grave mortal sin. So, if a woman has a true vocation to the Catholic priesthood, and the Vatican denies her ordination.... OMG BENEDICT IS SOOOOO GOING TO HELL!!!!
Damn! Another solid marriage RUINED by "teh Gay"!What's this world coming to?
ReplyDeleteHere's to you! Bishop Robinson! (Jesus loves you more than you man know, oh oh oh!)
That was brilliant.

Honestly, though...
ReplyDeleteIt's VERY easy to give up beer
when you haven't had a drop of alcohol for YEARS.
Willingly give up sex even though the church does not require it. He might be shocked to find out that there is a movement among Catholics to allow women to be ordained and allow all priests to be married. Among us Catholics there is a strong reform movement occurring.Women religious has quite the following. I'm catholic and i question people who convert becasue their church has become too liberal. Catholics themselves can be quite liberal. Good luck to him.
ReplyDeleteWhen did "celibate" change its meaning? At one point it meant that a person did not marry which did not mean that the person gave up sex as evidenced by Popes with bastard children. Now it means not having sex? That's a crock -- look at all the "celibate" priests having sex with young boys!
ReplyDeleteTo which his wife replied "free at last, free at last, thank the lord I'm free at last."
ReplyDeleteYou beat me to it.....
DeleteHis wife looks like a perfectly normal middle-aged woman. Don't make stupid sexist assumptions about people's sex lives by looking at photographs. The best lovers I've had have all been very average looking.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting story indeed. I recently became ordained as a minister by the Universal Life Church. While I did grow up Catholic, I decided that being a minister for the Presbyterian Church was a better fit for me. Good luck!
