Hillary Clinton supporters launch SuperPAC in anticipation of her run for President in 2016.

Courtesy of The Hill:

A group of Hillary Clinton supporters is launching a campaign to draft her to run for president — the first major push from an outside group for her to run.

The group, “Ready for Hillary,” filed as a super-PAC with the Federal Election Commission late last week and plans to roll out a website in the coming weeks.

It has already been active online, with nearly 50,000 Twitter followers and almost 30,000 people following the group on Facebook

The effort is being spearheaded by Allida Black and Judy Beck, two longtime Clinton supporters who were on Clinton’s Virginia Women’s Steering Committee in 2008 and helped her raise more than $100,000.

And so it begins.

By the way there was another item the other day that did not get much coverage but which seems to indicate that the President has already decided who he wants to succeed him.

This from Business Week:

Last week campaign disclosure reports revealed that Hillary Clinton had finally retired the debt from her 2008 presidential campaign—with a little help from the guy who beat her, Barack Obama. Clinton’s debt once totaled more than $20 million, although it had dwindled to about $250,000 by last year. That’s when a team of top Obama donors decided to surprise Clinton, and thank her for her loyal service, by raising enough money to pay off her bills. As secretary of state, she was forbidden from political fundraising.

According to a person involved in the effort who did not want to be named talking about internal fundraising strategy, the effort was launched last April by Steve Spinner, a California finance chairman for the Obama campaign; Jane Stetson, the former Democratic National Committee finance chairwoman; and Henry Munoz, the incoming DNC finance chairman. The challenge was tougher than it may appear, since it required a particular kind of donor. In order not to run afoul of campaign finance laws, the Obama team had to find people who had not already given Clinton the 2008 maximum primary donation of $2,300 or maxed out their total federal candidate donations during the 2012 cycle ($46,200). And of course, those people also had to be warmly disposed toward Clinton and still have plenty of free cash on hand.

This along with that unprecedented interview on Monday does not lave much doubt, at least in my opinion, that Hillary's 2016 campaign and the support of President Obama is essentially  one of the worst kept secrets in Washington.

I know a lot of people, including a lot of you, are not happy with the idea of having another dynasty in the White House, and are equally concerned that Hillary is the candidate that the Republicans had been preparing to fight in 2008, so they have an arsenal already at hand.

But to that I would say that if we are going to have a dynasty in the White House I would MUCH prefer to have another Clinton in there than to have Jeb Bush suddenly jump in front of the line. And don't think for an instant that he is not considering it. He most definitely is.

As for the idea that the Republicans are ready for Hillary, I challenge that as well.

The Republicans thought they were ready for the 2008 Hillary Clinton, NOT the 2016 Hillary Clinton.

Right now Hillary enjoys an approval rating of 69% while back in 2008 she was weighed down with poll numbers in the low 40's.

Since that time she has demonstrated the kind of professionalism, integrity, and hard work that has gained her fans on both sides of the aisle not to mention a large number in the middle.

Democrats NEVER get to hold onto the White House more than two terms anymore. Republicans do it all the time, but Democrats have not done so since Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman. That is just under sixty years ago!

As we all know President Obama is a chess player extraordinaire, so the probability that he is putting his pieces in place to hang onto the White House past 2016 is a no-brainer.

Everybody LOVES Joe Biden. I love Joe Biden. But Joe Biden is often almost a parody of Joe Biden sometimes, and in an election he will really just be another white guy running for the office who will elicit good support but not incredible support.

Right now there are millions of women who have ALREADY decided to vote for Hillary, even before she declares her intentions. By the time the actual primaries start Hillary will be so far ahead of the field of potential candidates that I doubt that very many of them will even bother show up. Which by the way includes Joe Biden in my opinion.

If you think about it there really IS no other candidate who has Hillary's credibility.

Experience in working with the Senate and Congress? Check!

Experience working with foreign dignitaries overseas? Duh!

Understanding of how to pay down the deficit and repair the economy? We do remember who her husband is right?

Ability to stand up to the Republicans? Do I need to play those Benghazi hearing tapes again?

Let's face it Hillary Clinton has it all, and her age will certainly NOT be a deterrent going forward.

If President Obama is serious about wanting the Democrats to hang onto the White House, and there can be no doubt that he is, and wants the next President to support and expand upon his polices, then there really is no better choice than Hillary Clinton.

I'm just saying.

Sorry, as an independent, I just couldn't vote for her. That said, I wouldn't like Biden either. I just don't think she'd make a very good President and she bears too many grudges. We need someone with fresher ideas who would bring people together and she is too divisive.

    1. Too divisive? Between who, the Dems and Republicans?

If you think anybody will be able to unite those two parties right now you are living in a candy coated dream world.

However she WILL bring the Democrats, and the REAL Independents, together in a big way.

Now go troll someplace else, the grownups have things to discuss.

HIlary Clinton seemingly forgives her husband - no holding a grudge there.

Hilary Clinton works FOR the guy that she was running against. She took the subservient role. And she did a fantastic job. No grudges there.

Hilary Clinton is very smart, and probably better able than most to know who is friend and who is foe. Grudges are for idiots involved petty politics. I see lots of evidence of politics (as would be required by anyone) but no evidnece of petty politics by Clinton. Not trusting people who aren't trustworthy isn't the same thing as a grudge.

Gryphen at 11:11. Go troll someplace else? "Grown-ups" have things to discuss? I am a 53-year-old business owner who is both politically informed and politically active. I have followed Hillary Clinton's career since the beginning and, while I admire her, my opinion against her candidacy is both informed and my personal right as an American. I have read your blog since your beginning, but I feel that I can no longer support you if this is how you attempt to quell the honest opinions of others. Good luck to you, sir, and goodbye.

Biden will most certainly have to express a desire NOT to run in order for this to work or the Dems will end up with the classic "split party" scenario which will give the office to the Republicans.

I think Hillary would win hands down and will support her. I've always supported President Obama - both races - and like the support he is giving her. As to Joe Biden - love him too. Wonder who she'll have on the ticket w/her?

The Republicans are already campaigning against her if you watch them. They don't have a viable candidate to run against her and they know it.

  5. I support Hillary and would, of course, work and vote for her, BUT, I am concerned about her age. Both at the first term and at her second term. She'd have to choose a man much younger than she is - nothing uncommon there - as VP. (And, no, I am not a "concern troll".)

Hillary and the President looked so young and vigorous in their interview: it put my age concerns to rest. Plus Hillary can do more for her health in the next few years, now that she will have time to rest, reflect, pursue her lifelong love of learning -- be really ready for that campaign.

She could prob fake a pregnancy really well, too. No slip-ups.

I agree about Hillary's age. I LOVE her, but she would need to choose a young governor or Senator to be her Veep, someone fairly moderate, in order to really solidify her support. I still wonder whether she'll run, too... I think she's slowly, slooooowwwly warming to the idea, but will bow out if she senses that Uncle Joe really wants it.

    1. Sorry Balzafiar I can't.

The group I am talking about are those women who were huge Hillary supporters during the 2008 campaign, and who only grudgingly voted for Obama when he won the primary.

These are the same women that the McCain campaign cynically believed they could tap into by putting a person with a vagina on THEIR ticket.

Those are the voters that have been waiting to vote for Hillary for four, soon to be eight, years, and that's who I was speaking of.

However, and you can check me on this if you want, my understanding that even those of us with only one X chromosome will be allowed to vote for her as well.

      So there you go.

  14. Well Palin will never run again - and I sure hope the dems don't fall into the trap that the GOP want them to be in - of supporting Hillary Clinton & being so upset when she doesn't run.

It is quite ghastly to talk about two such very different women in the same sentence - but thinking non stop about 2016 and talking about "Hillary" all the time when here is a current President, doing amazing things seems rather sad.

But .... did anyone see the "town Hall" of Sec Clinton - sure was an amazing question/answer session from a very intelligent woman (no answers written on hands - no notes)

  15. I think it's early to be talking about Hillary or Biden in terms of running in 2016. Neither are spring chickens anymore and we don't know what sort of stresses will be in store for them in the next three years. Hillary is still recuperating and Biden is in his 70's. I ain't takin' nothing for granted right now, but am taking a wait and see approach to both of them.

I supported Hillary early on in 2007-8, but was disappointed over the way she was campaigning...she seemed more concerned about winning the election than being chief executive so I switched to Obama, never regretted it. I love Hillary but three red flags there-her health, her age, and tends to hold grudges. If this was 2003 I would support her. Joe Biden...love him too but his age scares me too. He would be older than St. Ronnie was when he took office. I'm still pulling for a Wasserman Schultz/O'Malley or Schweitzer ticket or vice versa.

Way back a long time ago, when I was a freshman in college, like many people I took Psychology 101. And promptly forgot most of it. But something stuck and it has surfaced lately when considering Hillary Clinton. I just googled it as you can, to make sure I got it right......using Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs...remember this now? The pyramid which has the top of the pyramid describing "self-actualization". Does this sound familiar? Google it and read about it, Hillary Clinton is a self-actualized person. She truly is. As is Barack Obama. As was Albert Einstein, FDR, MLK, Ghandi and many great people who accomplished so much. She is complete. And as such a person she has the skills, the experience, the integrity, the humanity to be a fantastic president. I will support her for president. She has "it". The fact that she is a woman is just a bonus!!

  18. I don't even want to think about the 2016 campaign starting already. Ugh. But, that said, I would vote for Hillary. I didn't vote for her in 2008 because of her vote for the Iraq war and I didn't want to go through another "Clinton v GOP" like we did in the 90s. Of course, now we all know it wouldn't have mattered if Chuckles the Clown was President. The GOP would still be the party of No. Hillary is head and shoulders above anyone even thinking about running on the GOP side - even Chris Christie. Hillary's time as Secretary of State has made her an unbeatable candidate, in my humble opinion.

  19. Anita Winecooler6:31 PM

I was a fan of Hillary's early on, and once I read Obama's book and learned how he thinks, I switched and didn't look back.

I love how Hillary handled herself after Obama won. Bill eventually changed his tune and their service to the world and our country is quite an accomplishment. Hillary hit the ground running as Secretary of State, she worked hard and kept a pretty low profile until the Ben Ghazi attack, and even then, she showed she has what it takes.

Her experience generally, and specifically her service as Secretary of State would be great assets in a commander in chief. Add Barack Obama's experience and campaigning prowess, she'd be hard to beat!

If she decides, I wouldn't hesitate to support and vote for her.
