Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey
Oops, the illustrator of this map obviously forgot that Colorado is now a blue, hippy-lovin', mj-smokin' state with a tiny speck of a red Colorado Springs.
Not a lot of new information came out yesterday, after the story was broken by Deadspin.com on Wednesday afternoon. You might want to check out the original deadspin.com article and go from there. The other players are South Bend Tribune, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Notre Dame, and representatives of each.
The life cycle of this story is going to be longer and more interesting than the Lance Armstrong if this kid doesn't finally come out and tell the truth and explain why he specifically lied in so many I stances, even after he had informed Notre Dame of the hoax. Notre Dame has questions to answer as well, one of which is why they sent a videographer to help support a fund raiser in honor of the deceased girlfriend ( who did not exist ) when they knew already that the whole thing was a hoax and that the girlfriend NEVER existed, other than an online and twitter persona.
I began seeing a lot of parallels between Sarah's supporters' behavior in blindly defending her and calling all sceptics "haters", and sure enough, there are similar charges being made by the die-hard faithful. Words are being parsed in press releases issued by T'eo as well as Notre Dame. Reputations are on the line, and potentially a big 1-st round NFL contract is at risk for T'eo.
I have a gut feeling of where this is going to go and why it's happened, but I'd love to hear reaction and gut feelings from within the IM readership community. The Wednesday article in Deadspin.com is the breaking story and was an excellent, objective reporting piece, exactly what was never investigated in the Wild Ride case for our dear friend, Sarah.
It's not a short piece, but I read it twice and then proceeded to the comments. Lots of snark and insider stuff in the comments which is entertaining but might bog someone down, but many are straight forward and there's some great analysis. Plus theres the handful of T'eo and ND die- hards fighting to protect their brand, and it's obvious they are trying to skew or admit facts, most of which is words out of T'eo's mouth himself in interviews in which there are transcripts and in some cases, tapes of old interviews, some audio and some video.
Lots more to follow, and once again, it's the people searching for the truth versus the myth makers supported by the hypocritical religious right, who are trying to deflect and obfuscate from the truth. Some major branding issues and damage control going on right now. Distancing, spinning, lying, avoiding comment in the press by a notorious attention-whore. Even a father who apparently will lie and make up shit to support the myths developed to give his son positive national press and increase his popularity to make him into a candidate for College Football's Highest Individual Honor, the Heisman Trophy. Fortunately, Manti T'eo came up just short and finished 2nd. But as he showed with his performance in the National Championship game, he's merely a good player on a pretty average ND team, and Alabama took them to the woodshed and T'eo was not even a minimal factor in the game. All hype and no performance. Check it out.
Thanks, Boney BB, had been hearing about this for the last couple days, and never got the chance to really check it out. Stuff like this just fascinates me, because the basic premise(s) are that people truly WANT to believe in a hero/idol, and that there's a sucker born every minute. Can't wait for the day when the MSM reveals how Sarah the Conservative Cartoon Character was developed, groomed, packaged and marketed (IMO this was planned way before March 2008), the many deceptions and how they unfolded, and who exactly was/is responsible for the truckloads of cash to finance this human circus (I'm banking on the Dominionists, who want to take those Seven Mountains at all costs). And above all, how it all eventually collapsed like an old card table. And I may be waiting for a long, long time.
Palin couldn't live without her sports analogies. Why? Because she and Bristol were so locally famous for all their sports achievements? Because she remained active with sports? Her great reputation as a runner?
Palin needs and wants to be compared to greatness in sports. The analogy has been vital to her rise as a once powerful player in the Republican party. When she and Bristol are able to open up with more than Bible verse renditions and speak again, perhaps they will carry on with the sports analogy theme.
Bro Chuck has taken a lead with Track Palin, the military and teaching young boys how to shoot. Chuck is more sympatico with their family friend, Ted Nugent, who is also famous for his love of young females.
Frankly I'm proud to live in a state that conservatives think is controlled by "union thugs"and is in the "socialist belt." Unfortunately at the moment Michigan is in the throes of a tea party takeover and our carpetbagger governor only pretended to be a moderate to get elected. But I'm confident that we'll once again emerge as a proud union state with those "socialist" tendencies that the conservatives hate so. Beaglemom

ReplyDeleteThat's about right from my neck of the woods
ReplyDeleteShouldn't the Heartland say Rill America Fly-Over Country?
ReplyDeleteG, I'm sure you're aware of the firestorm that deadspin created with their exposé of the hoax of the Notre Dame linebacker Manti T'eo. The journalists neglected their due diligence in not fact-checking sources and failed to follow upon inconsistencies in the stories, time lines and situations described differently by participating parties. Lots of parallels to the fake pregnancy hoax in that the purpose of the hoax was probably multi-fold: to: to support in the myth-making of a extremely devout Mormon kid who was the surprising unexpected superstar leading Notre Dame (cue the angels to sing anytime you mention "America's greatest Catholic Institution---academically, athletically, and in every other facet.

DeleteWhat's the difference in a non-existent girl friend and a non-existent pregnant Governor?
