Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) warned fellow Republicans this week, saying President Barack Obama's inaugural address had convinced him that the president was undertaking an effort to "annihilate" the GOP.
"Given what we heard yesterday about the president's vision for his second term, it's pretty clear to me -- should be clear to all of you -- that he knows he can't do any of that as long as the House is controlled by Republicans," Boehner said during a speech at the Ripon Society on Tuesday. "So we're expecting over the next 22 months to be the focus of this administration as they attempt to annihilate the Republican Party."
Boehner continued, claiming that the broader goal of the administration was "to just shove us into the dustbin of history."
You know this reminds of me of a suicidal man who accuses another man of murder for not taking his gun away before he shoots himself. Arguably the only people the Republicans can blame for the destruction of their party is the choices made by Republican party.
However if Boehner is unwilling to be that circumspect, there is another person that he could legitimately blame for the demise of his party, and that would be Sarah Palin.
As any Alaskan can tell you allowing Palin to be associated with you is the kiss of death.
Whether it be dairy companies, a natural gas pipeline, reality shows, cable news outlets (Which by the way we now know for certain has cut her loose.), or certain well known politicians..
...the curse of Palin is sure to doom them in the long run.
After the debacle of the two Bush terms the Republicans desperately needed to choose a presidential candidate with gravitas, and they seemingly did that with John McCain. But then his campaign was bullied into adding one of the most inept politicians on the planet, and essentially turned the GOP into a laughingstock only fit for ridicule by late night comedians.
Then they allowed Palin to tease the low hanging fruit usually relegated to the extreme fringe of the party with hints at a presidential run of her own, which garnered her undeserved attention that she then used to bring focus onto a truly ridiculous group of Constitutional retards, so blatantly clownish that they wore teabags and tricorner hats on their head, who were nonetheless successful in placing political IED's into the Congress and Senate which have sabotaged EVERY attempt to successfully govern since their arrival.
Not all of the blame can be laid at Palin's feet, there is still plenty to go around, however if John Boehner is looking for the single most damaging decision the Republican party has made in the last four years, and the trigger for the problems they are facing today, they need look no further than a dead lake in a tiny methamphetamine saturated town in Alaska.
Well said!! Just let them keep talking. I'm curious about how 2014 is going to play out with all of the Gerrymandering and voter suppression. Even serious push back won't affect certain house seats.

ReplyDeleteWhat a well written article on Palin in a NIGERIAN blog of all things.
I think that the Republicans have done a pretty good job without any outside help. All that President Obama has to do is laugh at them.
ReplyDeleteYep, they did it to themselves. With all their dirty tricks and instead of compromising on real issues they insisted on attacking women's health care by defunding Planned Parenthood and voter suppression. Their candidates during the primaries also did much to destroy their party and Sarah Palin turned out to be a big tease...keeping everyone guessing with her family vacation bus tour as to whether she'll run...a bunch of idiots. Also trying to redefine rape didn't help either. They have no one to blame but themselves.
ReplyDeleteMinority Leader Mitch McConnell said that "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."
ReplyDeletePAYBACK'S A BITCH
Really, John Boehner at this point has lost any shame a normal person would have. To admit your party is so disastrously easy to destroy---and even though you have the house (the most do nothing house in about a hundred years) that the President will destroy what is left of the crazy right wing because he made an amazing inaugural speech about his beliefs. . .
ReplyDeleteJohn really knows why his party is about extinct--and the only thing President Obama has to do with it is the GOP went cousin humpin' crazy and chewed off their own legs when he was elected.
They don't need help. It's one of the few things they excell at.
ReplyDeleteThey are doing a great job on their own. Check out New Mexico house bill 206 introduced by state Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R), would charge a rape victim who ended her pregnancy with a third-degree felony for "tampering with evidence." Yup that's the way to win people over.
ReplyDeleteAnd a woman to boot. She should be ashamed. What if her daughter was raped, traumatized and impregnated? What if her daughter's future mental stability depended on an abortion? What kind of woman would tolerate such madness?
DeleteBeaglemom
The really sad part is that every woman who is raped needs access to the pill that does not terminate a pregnancy at all, but keeps the sperm from meeting up with an egg. No pregnancy, no abortion. Yet the GOP hates that as well...see, every man's every sperm is precious and a life to be...wonder when they make masturbation and wet dreams illegal, this party of small government?
DeleteNot every rape results in a pregnancy. This would prevent women from reporting the rape. And if the baby is evidence, will they keep it in the police station along with the other evidence? Now, the baby is their responsibility. Good Luck with that.
DeleteI wound hope women would report rape because they've been victim of a crime, a sexual assault, not just in the cases where they might be pregnant. It's not a matter of "having a good excuse" or "proving someone else is to blame" for a pregnancy. Why allow a pregnancy to occur from a rape if it can be prevented in the first place?
DeleteDo you think that the police department is going to recover the fertilized egg from a woman's uterus to prove rape? Um, I'm a guy, and could probably stand to learn a thing or two about recovering evidence from a rape victim, because I've never had direct experience, but I'm pretty damn sure that's not what the samples of DNA thst are collected with a rape kit. Correct me if you know something I don't, but recoverable DNA might include semen sample, hair, skin under finger nails, etc. And waiting 9 months later to use a baby as "evidence" only to be left at the police station is a ludicrous suggestion.
I'm not really sure if you've thought this through, but I'm willing to listen.
Ah, but 11:32, don't you know? HER daughter wouldn't GET raped! She's a good girl who dresses without being provocative!
DeleteSTUPID SHIT! (The bill author, I mean.)
That will only guarantee that rapes don't get reported.
DeleteWhen you realize the mouthpieces for the Republican party are the Fox Network, Rush, and our beloved Sarah Palin, it is hard to pin the blame for the demise of the GOP all on the President. Fox, Rush and Sarah has made this once great country a laughing stock of the industrial world. This is one of many YouTubes which graphically illustrates the downfall of the GOP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqBLUIJ-zYc
ReplyDeleteWho in their right mind would choose the rambling, babbling idiot Sara Palin over the reasoned intellectual Joe Biden? I think I know and it scares me....
Well Johnny Boy, what else does one do with common dust BUT put it in the dustbin? Heck fire, you've been walking that unGreen (Orange?) Mile since you started paying attention to Grover Norquist, Karl Rove, and the Foxsters.
ReplyDeleteOnly the GOP can annihilate the GOP. The moderates are cowed by the T-baggers and until that changes, and reasonable people step forward, the GOP is annihilating itself.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, this is your best post.
ReplyDeleteAs a former Palin supporter, I wholeheartedly agree with every word.
I watched the palinbots go from voting for Sarah Palin to become the Vice President of the United States of America to voting for Bristol Palin on DWTS.
I watched the Republican primaries and shook my head when every candidate answered, ¨Yes,¨ they believed Sarah Palin would win the election if she ran against President Obama.
In the past four years I donated a total of $108,200 to President Obama and the Democratic Party in my name alone.
Oh, come on Boner Boo Hoo.... The American People have rejected the agenda of the Tea Party and the right-wing fringe of the old GOP. You've done it all by yourself.
ReplyDeleteExcellent post. Every respectable Republican in the country should be ashamed and outraged that their party has been hijacked by lunatics. Every good Republican who sat by and did nothing as they watched the freak show debates deserves what has happened. Apathy goes hand in hand with the Palin debacle in killing the Republican party.
ReplyDeleterp
I don't blame SP, I blame McCain for picking her and letting her run wild. McCain and his pals, most of whom are behind the curtain.
ReplyDeleteSeems like there was a pre-cave-in McCain and a post-cave-in McCain. My sense was McCain got taken hostage right before the RNC, in that last-ditch effort to win. So he and the pals permitted a lot of deceptive and unethical things, the Palin Preg Hoax being one of them. And now the cover-up of it.
The Klown Kar Kandidates offered by the GOP in the primaries would have been enough to sink the party. On top of that, the endless lies and gaffes of Romney and Ryan. I don't recall Pres Obama saying a word, except to chuckle "They shoot first and aim later" about some stupidity or another.
As the GOP implodes, we can expect to hear lots of noise. Lots of "not my fault." Lots of "unfair!!! Booohoooohooo!!" Yup. Just the usual process for bad losers.
After GW Bush was elected to his second term, Karl Rove was congratulated on his grand plans for a permanent majority. Later on, McConnell announced he was going to sabotage President Obama to a single term.
ReplyDeleteNow in the teabagger era, Republicans are whining about being relegated to the dustbin of history!
Bush did not win either election.
DeleteAfter the 2006 midterms, Rove resigned his babysitting duties for George W. Bush and went home to be 'with family.' Only...he didn't.
DeleteHe divorced one wife, and found another and in the meantime started putting together his master plan to discredit and annihilate Hillary Clinton, whom he thought would be the 2008 Democratic nominee. He was so sure of it..Obama's rise in 2008 caught Turd Blossom by surprise. Caught him with his pants down..which, by the way, is probably what his previous wife did also...
Mental picture of Turdblossom with his pants down is a disgusting thought. Mind bleach needed here stat!
DeleteCrying and whining is what Boehner does best.
ReplyDeleteBoner is always crying about something. The party of personal responsibility has to blame someone else for their own stupidity.
ReplyDeleteHehehee...so true!

ReplyDeleteCONFIRMATION! Palin’s Contract At Fox Has Not Been Renewed!
http://malialitman.wordpress.com/2013/01/24/confirmation-palins-contract-at-fox-has-not-been-renewed/#comment-61400
If anyone in the GOP had listened to President Obama's inaugural address, they would have realized that he did include them because he talked about "we, the people" and that includes Republicans if they want to be included. That's the problem here. President Obama and the Democrats are not trying to annihilate the GOP. The GOP is annihilating itself by becoming ever more intransigent and irrelevant. The GOP has no leadership. John McCain is not sane enough to be the party leader and who would want Mitt Romney as leader.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Republicans in Congress need to sit in their "naughty chairs" and contemplate their behavior. When they apologize to the American people and start representing us (as they swore to do when they took their oaths of office), we might accept their apology but we will demand that they start acting like adults who care about the country and not like recalcitrant children.
Beaglemom
The Repubes don't think of "We, the people...." They think of "You the suckers...."
DeleteGreat pic of Johnny Mac's comb over! What a douche, a total ignorant douche he is. And of course, so is the overly bronzed man, Boehner.
ReplyDeleteThe Republican Party and its many delusional members brought this downfall totally on themselves. And after two ass-kickins' they are still in denial.
"It's the media's fault, Obama's fault, they didn't get their message out well enough"...blah, flippin' blah. They tell themselves these epic lies and cry, cry, cry.
And the Repubs can lay much of the blame on Fox News, also.
I remember hearing Rush Limbaugh, right after the election in 2004, tell his audience, "Democrats, it's over. Your party is through." Someone ought to remind him of that...
So Boehner flat out admits that he plans to NOT work for anything the President mentioned, for another two years? Wow. Just wow. I thought maybe he would think at last that he is there is govern, not block. He is there to help Americans, not fight with the President over nothing. He is there, Ohio, tom work FOR us, not against us. Can you not find one qualified Dem to run against this moron, please?
ReplyDeleteThat's fine. In two years he'll be up for re-election.
DeleteWe can only hope his sorry ass will end up in the unemployment line.
Over my lifetime (almost 70 years now) we've had lots of Republican presidents with Democratic Congressional majorities. Never has the Democratic Party ever behaved so disgracefully! I hope that the Dems keep pounding the Republicans in Congress in their districts/states. Voters need to know that these imbeciles are not doing the job they were elected to do! Let's boot them all out in 2014! And, in the meantime, let's keep reminding these Republican blowhards (by phone or email) of their gross incompetence and failure to represent their constituents. "Dr. Dan" is going to hear from me often, just as Dave Camp did when we were unfortunate enough to have him as our Congressman.
DeleteBeaglemom
Oops. I should have written "Never has the Democratic Party ever behaved as disgracefully as the 21st century Republicans."
DeleteBeaglemom
As one of their own, Colin Powell, stated these "idiot presentations", I.e. Palin and the birthers are ruining their brand. Hell, I'm all for it. Keep it up idiots!
ReplyDeleteObama wouldn't waste his time planning to annihilate the Republican party.
ReplyDeleteThey're doing such a bang up job themselves.
tsk, tsk.... guess the rethugs didn't realize Palin was a gateway drug to doom and oblivion.
ReplyDeleteDang, how embarrassing it is to be a Repug these days!! Couldn't happen to a smarmier bunch of ragtag imbeciles.
The horrid Republican party needs zero help from President Obama as they've assuredly made themselves look like idiots the past four years.
ReplyDeleteThe way I see it is that the repubs are doing this to themselves! I'm waiting for the day that the party implodes on itself!
ReplyDeleteDoes having a liver that's annihilated by alcohol cause a person to turn Orange?
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteThey don't need Obama's help in this at all, not while they're doing a dandy job of self-destruction all by themselves. Still, this sort of talk, along with all that the Lefties want your guns foolishness is meant to spoke their brainwashed followers. Now, factor in the ways that certain Republican controlled states are determined to maintain their false majorities via aggressive gerrymandering and rigging the next election by changing the rules as apply to the Electoral College and you will see that things are more perilous for the future of this country than we thought. What is being done is increasingly akin to plotting a coup.
ReplyDeleteI was so concerned about what they're doing that I felt compelled to write the President yesterday. He needs to know that we're aware of what's going on and that it concerns us as well.
M from MD
In the same speech, Boehner claimed that many high level republican operatives have been calling him in despair, and of course, he painted himself as the Rock of Gibraltar, and said he told them everything will be alright. Yeah, right. The only way everything will be alright for the republicans is if they abandon their offensive policies, work with the president instead of against him, and show up in the House more frequently and WORK. I can't think of anyone I know who earns what they earn and works so little. I've seen people who show up for work late on too many days get fired, but because of extreme gerrymandering, these tools keep getting paid and keep using the benefits we pay for. I don't understand some republicans who scream about our deficit and national debt being too high but still vote for these folks. True fiscal conservatives would have shown all of them the door in the last election. This tells me that their claim to be so concerned about their kids' and grandkids' futures is a bunch of BS.
ReplyDeleteOld Man McCain ought to hide his face.... What a waste of tax payer funding.
ReplyDeleteThat's his face????
DeleteHey, Orange man, he who dealt it, smelt it!!
ReplyDelete(Good choice of photos, Gryph! Boehner has the same look on his face that I imagine Sarah did on her honeymoon)
Have you ever seen three stooges as pitiful as Boehner, McCain and Baldy?? Pathetic.
I suppose it stands to reason that those who have been actively destroying themselves by means of (among other things) shameless projection of their own worst character on Obama would in turn think it was he that had been doing it to them all along.
ReplyDeleteSorry..this is off topic for this discussion but I wanted to be sure you are saw on TPM that Benjamin Netanyahu is struggling to stay in office. The Sarah Palin curse continues! How many people has that woman taken down? She really is toxic!
