Man charged with terrorist threats after pointing AK-47 at his own daughter over grades.

Courtesy of My Fox 9:

A St. Paul man has been charged with terroristic threats for pointing an AK-47 rifle at his daughter during an argument over the fact that she got two B's instead of straight A's in school.

According to the charges, 52-year-old Kirill Bartashevitch recently purchased the AK-47 due to fears that such weapons would be banned under President Obama's push for gun control legislation.

St. Paul police learned of the Jan. 13 incident after Bartashevitch's daughter sent a text message to a Central High School classmate, saying her father pointed an AK-47 at her. The message was seen by the classmate's mother, who reported it to a school social worker.

In an interview with the social worker, the victim said they were arguing about her grades when she swore at her father and said she "hated" him. At that point, Bartashevitch grabbed his newly-purchased gun and pointed it at his daughter.

The girl's mother said she stepped between the two, and that Bartashevitch pushed her to the ground and pointed the gun at both of them. The daughter said she wasn't scared because she didn't think the gun was loaded.

Bartashevitch admitted having a physical confrontation with his wife and daughter, and admitted to pointing the gun at both of them. He said the gun was not loaded and that he checked the chamber before pointing it at them.

St. Paul police searched the Bartashevitch home and found ammunition and receipts for two gun purchases. One receipt was for Bill's Gun Shop, dated Jan. 22, 2013. An employee of the gun shop confirmed Bartashevitch sold an AK-47 style gun -- specifically a 7.62X54R -- for $150.

The other receipt was for Frontiersman Sport, Inc., also dated Jan. 22, 2013. The gun shop confirmed Bartashevitch sold a newer AK-47 clone rifle -- a Cal-Zastava PAP 70 7.62X39 -- for $375.

This gun was purchased legally by a man who obviously passed his background check and then days later was pointing the weapon at his wife and daughter. So much for the argument that only criminals use firearms in a dangerous manner.

Somebody please tell me again how stricter gun laws and and bans on assault weapons would NOT keep Americans safer.

I cannot get over the idea that this man pointed a weapon at his own child, in order to frighten her into compliance. What kind of POS thinks like that?

Maybe he is the kind who thinks we need to drive our students as hard as the Japanese do so we, too, can have a high suicide rate!

For two "B's" instead of all "A's"?

    Asshole.

More proof that these weapons should not be in the hands of civilians. Pulling an assault weapon on your child over some damn grades.

No, Gryph, not a POS - a human being.

We humans - any of us, all of us - are capable of being irrational at times. It's built into us maybe in part from having evolved from savages. But for whatever reason - we are all capable of, even prone towards, making a stupid, irrational mistake.

And that's exactly why it's important to not have such an explosive weapon close at hand for those rare times when we do.

  5. If you have a Kindle, you can get the entire book described below. Some salient points made include:

Much of the opposition to gun control stemmed from paranoia about the federal government, King argued. "These guys and gals actually believe that dictatorship will follow disarmament, with tanks in the streets of Topeka."

He assured gun owners that no one wanted to take away their hunting rifles, shotguns or pistols, as long as they held no more than 10 rounds. "If you can't kill a home invader (or your wife, up in the middle of the night to get a snack from the fridge) with ten shots, you need to go back to the local shooting range."

The mockery continued when he noted semi-automatics had only two purposes: to kill people, and to let their owners go to a shooting range, "yell yeehaw, and get all horny at the rapid fire and the burning vapor spurting from the end of the barrel".

King noted that homicides by firearm declined by 60% in Australia after strict gun controls were introduced. And that about 80 people die of gunshot wounds daily in the US.

In a line sure to affront the NRA, and delight the gun-control lobby, he added : "Plenty of gun advocates cling to their semi-automatics the way Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson clung to the shit that was killing them."

Gryphen, that's only the half of it. Last night, conservatarian radio personality Mark D. Levin (nee Morrie D. Finklestein) explained to America the true impact of that Obama character's single-handed destruction of the U.S. Constitution by his ill-timed recess appointment of members of the National Labor Relations Board.

Yes, Obama's "destruction" of the Constitution! And that's putting it mildly! It's not an exaggeration to say that with that one unconstitutional act, Obama did more damage to the United States than all the wars and political conflict in the history of the known universe. (Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration...)

Here's a quote from Levin's brilliant analysis and impassioned call to action against this dark-skinned man with the funny name who claims to be president: “I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.”

    Wow.

Really makes ya ask yerself "why isnt Brigadier General Mark D. Levin president", donut?

  9. The daughter probably should have been scared. If he was stupid enough to do what he allegedly did, then he was stupid enough to play with his shiny new ammunition and have fun loading the gun, etc., and then not make absolutely certain that it was unloaded before putting it away.*

*Put away = keep handy for threatening family members.

How many times have we heard the words "I didn't know the gun was loaded", after someone accidentally shot and killed a loved one, a friend, while pulling the gun on them, playing with the gun, etc?

  10. WTF is wrong with getting a couple of Bs? Seriously?

And sure, in a fit of rage he grabbed his gun and checked carefully to make sure it was unloaded before he pointed it at his wife and daughter. I believe that.

Doesn't matter even if he DID check to see no round was in the chamber.

All weapons are assumed to be loaded at all times, and you never point at something you don't intend to shoot.

Well, guess what? If he hadn't had the weapon he would not have been able to point it at his child and wife. The logic is clear and simple. A person is far more likely to use a gun if that person has a gun. I hope that, for his paranoia, he loses his "right to bear arms" permanently as a result of this episode and is sent to anger management classes after a psychiatric assessment.

  14. "An employee of the gun shop confirmed Bartashevitch sold an AK-47 style gun -- specifically a 7.62X54R -- for $150"
This story has a couple of glaring inconsistencies..AK47s use a 7.62x39 cartridge, as do most Russian "assault rifles". The 7.62x54R cartridge is used in bolt action rifles like the Mosin-Nagant - mainly surplus from WWII that sell at gun stores for around $100-150. These rifles are available as "curio and relic" firearms w/o a background check.
It looks like a nut case pointing the closest weapon available at his recalcitrant family in a case of impotent rage. Maybe a prescription for viagra would help?
The story itself, by identifying the rifle as an assault rifle, loses my belief in its veracity throughout. Anti-gun hysteria ginning at its finest.

A curio or a relic, whatever its vintage, can still shoot and kill.
      What is hysterical about that?
Most of these gun nuts would be safer getting themselves a case of Viagra. Then they could feel they were manly men without taking out their families and neighbors as collateral damage.

A column in The New York Times this week by a woman who has struggled with depression begged politicians to make it harder for her to buy a gun -- for her own self-protection and for those around her.
Sad people, crazy people -- the solution to their problems are just a hair-trigger away for them.
Why on earth would this man believe he needed TWO, much less one, AK-47s? Would he shoot them simultaneously? When the Volvo-driving communists had made it up his driveway, to leave poisoned sushi for his cat, he could take out every last middle-aged, grey-haired ACLU member who was chanting on his street corner? What? What are the fantasies of these crazy people?

His poor daughter -- clearly any deficit in her report card was caused by the subhuman DNA she inherited from her father.
Who goes out to spend more than $500 on guns and ammunition because a legally elected President has been inaugurated Are there voices in his head, telling him the Mexican gardener will soon be living next door?

One of the many illogical arguments gun advocates proclaim is the "It's okay that I pointed a gun at my daughter/displayed my gun in a shopping mall/need to have a gun at my side at all times because IT'S NOT LOADED."

Okay, WTF? To me that just screams insecurity issues. You are brandishing an instrument whose sole purpose is to kill, but it's okay because it's not loaded?

  19. If this poor excuse for a human being, let alone father, had any understanding of responsible gun ownership at all, he would have known there is in fact no such thing as an unloaded gun. Some people DO make a valid case for gun removal laws. This guy is a perfect example.

"Kirill Bartashevitch is charged with two counts of terroristic threats for pointing the gun at his daughter and wife. Bail was set at $20,000 with the conditions Bartashevitch have no contact with his daughter or wife.

If convicted, each charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine."

    Is this punishment enough?

How does anyone get over having their father or husband threaten their lives? And for what?, two "B"'s being the lowest grade? Trying to protect you child from her insane father?

  23. Anonymous12:45 PM

Why would you point a gun at your child? Really, why?

What's the thinking here? Why do people point guns at others - defensive ("I shot her before she hurt me"), preventive ("Stop or I'll shoot"), coercive ("hand over the money or I'll shoot.")

There really isn't any other purpose for pointing a gun.

You don't say, "Look, I mean business" with a gun.

What exactly was the message he was trying to convey to his child? "I'm so angry with you I will kill you?"

What kind of monster does that?

I,m with you Paul. Apparently, this father is so intelligent he expects his children to come up with nothing except A's. instead of pointing a gun at her,he could have asked what was bothering her or could have asked if he could help. My father used to stand beside me and smack me, scream at me,never thinking that maybe, he was the reason. He moved us as a family at least twice every year. I was in fourth grade and and gone to six schools. When he left to enter the service, I was so glad, I never wanted him to come home. I feel very sorry for that girl, being intimidated in that way. A child never forgets that treatment.
