Stress of Fiscal Cliff negotiations reached climax days before deal as John Boehner tells Harry Reid to "Go f**k yourself."

Courtesy of Politico:

House Speaker John Boehner couldn’t hold back when he spotted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the White House lobby last Friday.

It was only a few days before the nation would go over the fiscal cliff, no bipartisan agreement was in sight, and Reid had just publicly accused Boehner of running a “dictatorship” in the House and caring more about holding onto his gavel than striking a deal.

“Go f— yourself,” Boehner sniped as he pointed his finger at Reid, according to multiple sources present.

Reid, a bit startled, replied: “What are you talking about?”

Boehner repeated: “Go f— yourself.”

The harsh exchange just a few steps from the Oval Office — which Boehner later bragged about to fellow Republicans — was only one episode in nearly two months of high-stakes negotiations laced with distrust, miscommunication, false starts and yelling matches as Washington struggled to ward off $500 billion in tax hikes and spending cuts.

I LOVER this kind of stuff because it demonstrates the kind of raw emotion that often drives these negotiations. By the way I would just like to point out that House Speaker Boehner said this to the Majority Leader only days before completely capitulating and handing the Senate everything they wanted.

But hey I guess it make Boehner feel all manly to curse at Reid right before he fell to his knees and gave in like a prison bitch.

By the way I found this great gif that to me eloquently sums up the Teabaggers attempts to derail or modify this bill.

Yep, that about sums it up all right. (Oh it can also be used to illustrate Sarah Palin's career path as well.)

Oh, if Boehner had only known that the president had sold out but Harry threw the concessions papers in the fire!

Krugman Labels Obama as the Wimp That Threw it All Away.

The GOP won this battle, they did not lose. You had better read the bill, you dip sticks. Permanent extension of the Bush tax cuts below $400,000, permanent 15% dividend tax, 17% from 19% spending of GDP, ETC., ETC., ETC.. This is part of what the GOP wanted from the git-go.

    1. It unprofessional and unseemly to the office he holds.

To brag about it only makes it worse.

I sure hope the Republicans replace crybaby Böhner when the new house convenes. He hasn't been what you'd call an outstanding leader.

Thanks for that gif. It looks just like my kitty with about the same degree of grace.

I will watch it a million times.

  6. I hope the kitty was all right.

As to Harry Reid, he was neither the one doing the fucking nor the one getting fucked.

Böhner brought it all on himself. Him and McConnell. But ultimately it was the GOP, who gave in and even enabled the 'baggers and their queen, Grover, who ultimately fucked the Republicans. Obama just enabled the process.

I can't say I love everything but it was an OK compromise.

I was OK with the $400,000 limit but not so happy with the inheritance tax aspects. But I understand it is small steps and this is a small step in the right direction.

Now I want to see Böhner and the Republicans and especially the 'baggers get supremely fucked over the cutbacks. I was to see a lot of defense cuts with none to Social Security and Medicare. I want to see that prescription debacle totally rewritten to benefit the people and not the pharmacorps.

That would be a good start.

The thing with the inheritance is this, if it is in cash it is easy to liquidate it for taxes. if the inheritance is land or other goods, it has to be sold first. That can mean family farms have to be broken up and sold in pieces ruining the land in the process or making sure it is folded into some corporate farm. That's one small reason why that inheritance tax limit should be higher than seems "fair".

    2. You know? I'm sick of family farms being used as the blah blah excuse.

How many family farms are we talking about? More than $4 million dollars? Really?

That sounds more like corporate farms.

And anyone with a $4 million farm can get an account or lawyer to help them around the inheritance just like the big boys.

My Dad has no farm and certainly doesn't have $4 million or an account or a lawyer. But he's managed to set up a trust and limit the damage any inheritance taxes would impose.

Enough with the American Gothic excuse. Because that's all it is. An excuse for them that can to avoid paying their fair share. It just continues and exacerbates the income in equity since that money will be sequestered rather than going back in to the economy for redistribution. That's right I used the word redistribution. It's not evil. It's like circulation for the body. And the body of the U.S. is festering with stagnation.

I'm a farmer. Most of my neighbors are farmers. Some of those farmers are indeed relatively wealthy compared to me (my farm estate value is more along the line of about $500,00 or so). But not a single one of my fellow farmers here, even the wealthy ones who indeed control multi-million dollar farm operations, will be impacted by the estate tax because we are smart enough to know about effective estate planning and business structuring. The farm family argument is bogus and people who bring it up as an argument against the estate tax prove they have no idea what they are talking about.

    Um,

John BONER is right behind Joe Biden for the Presidency, as far as the succession line goes.

This man is unfit for ANY office, public or private!

How is his obvious alcoholism, old boy network and ANGER problems NON-ISSUES????

What he should have said(but has way too much class to) is this:
After I finish with your mom, maybe.

He would never have said it to Biden. He doesn't have the balls. Boner would only say that to someone who might be shocked. He would never say anything to someone who would throw it back twice as hard.

I don't understand why anyone would vote to put Boehner (the alchoholic from all reports I've read!) back in there as Speaker of the House. And, Cantor would be worse. I detest the Republicans in Congress and hope as many as possible are voted out of office this next go around.

Every photo you see of Boehner w/either President Obama or people on the 'other' side - always shows him with a sneer on his face.

Some men should take Boehner out to the back of the House and beat the shit out of him. He does not speak for the American people and is nothing more than a jerk and asshole!

The way he spoke to Harry Reid (who is always a gentleman and soft spoken) is wrong and shows Boehner to be nothing more than a bully! Fuck him!

When "we" lost in 2010, one of the most painful transitions was Nancy Pelosi resigning her position and giving the gavel to Boner.

One of the most glaringly disgusting changes Boner made to the "Club" was to REINSTATE A SMOKING POLICY!!

You read that correctly. Nancy Pelosi had declared the Club Non-smoking for the health of all members AND WORKERS, but BONER the alkie refused to forego the Brandy AND CIGARS of the old boys club he was so desperate to bring back.

So he allowed Smoking once again in the club.

      What fucking progr-ASS.

What I've noticed is that the media continues to hype things up - cliff, cliff, cliff - February and March!!! There should be a limit put out there as to freedom of press. This is getting old.

Also, no one is giving President Obama credit for doing what he has been talking about since he ran for office the second time.

The Republicans are assholes!!! Boehner and McConnell especially.

Christie is saying the same to Boehner. The REPUGS are falling apart. All they need to look even more pathetic is for Grifter Granny Palin to spew her Incoherent Rants again. She must not forget that the RNC 'KICKED HER TO THE CURB' during their Convention.

"Go fuck yourself" is WHY I can't wait for more estrogen to infiltrate higher offices of power in Politics. This next senate is the beginning.

Mr Orange Weepy thinks he's a big shot, disrespecting someone who's older and far wiser than he will ever be. The ones with the big mouths are compensating for their, ahem, "'SHORT'falls".

Go ahead, Boehner, make my day - TRY doing the same to VP Biden.
