Courtesy of the New York Daily News:
Hours after President Barack Obama called on Congress to ban assault weapons, one man's protest raised some eyebrows at a Utah store.
An Ogden woman snapped a few photos of a man standing inside a J.C. Penney on Wednesday with a big gun slung over his shoulder.
The man, identified as Joseph Kelley, 22, told The Salt Lake Tribune he wanted to demonstrate that the weapons aren't dangerous when handled by law-abiding citizens.
Kelley said he's a former member of the military and alerted police in advance that he would be carrying the weapon, which he identified as an unloaded AR-15.
Kelley was also carrying a Glock 19c on his hip.
You know I realize that his guy probably thought that he looked super damn cool and intimidating, and had fantasies of single handedly stopping an invasion from Iran or Mexico with his strap on penis extender, but all that I got from seeing this guy is that he is extremely insecure and terrified of the world around him.
Which by the way are EXACTLY the kinds of people who, in my opinion, should NOT be allowed access to weapons like that.
You know when they talk about screening people for mental illness before letting them buy certain weapons, how is this NOT a huge red flag that somebody needs a psychiatric intervention?
I just read a comment on Raw Story where the commented stated that he lives around people. Because he lives around people he feels helpless without a gun. Unfortunately many of the "crazies" in today's society do not pass the criteria of mentally ill. Trying to determine if a person is likely to be a danger to himself or others is very difficult. Just look at our "crazies". They are misinformed and the belief system is all out of whack. They are angry because they feel they are wronged. (Unfortunately that is a fact of modern life.) Some are armed to the teeth because the government is coming any day for their guns and they will fight to the death to defend them. But would they really shoot up someone? Would they take to a mall, or street and start shooting? Probably, not unless they are late teens or early 20s and male etc. etc. Their guns and bold talk make them feel like "SOMEONE POWERFUL", not someone who is helpless without a gun.

I'm really sorry if anyone is offended by my saying this, but that's just stupid to want to play "dress up" as a mass murderer in a public place like that. We make fun of old ladies who dress like teenagers when they go out in public dressed in appropriated for a particular venue, and rightfully so, although lots of older gals know how to pull it off by not going way overboard and advertising "I'm a skank on the prowl."
ReplyDeleteThis is about the same mentality of my brother and I when we were both under 7 years old and just had to wear our cap guns on our hip and our cowboy boots to the grocery store. No, we didn't shoot up the place bc our Mom would've made us put the guns and caps up for a few days if we had popped them inside even once. But we really thought we were a couple of cowboys packin our pistolas.
Grow up, kid. You're just asking for trouble by causing unnecessary anxiety for people out doing shopping and whatever. Hopefully none of your fellow gun goons feels threatened and feels like he has to stand his ground.
We totally agree with you. This man's behavior simply screams "I am afraid and implies he has a serious mental unbalance. If a woman showed up a JCPenney's wearing a locked chastity belt and carrying an aluminum baseball bat because she was worried about being raped, people would think she was over-the-top. He many not have that gun loaded, but who around him would know that.
ReplyDeleteHe is not sending a message about safety. He is sending a message of fear - telegraphing his own paranoia ad creating fear in others. How can anyone know he is one of the "good" guys
He should think about how kids who have been traumatized by the Sandy Hook shooting must feel seeing him trotting about like this.
Yes this true. My daughter who is not not one to be scared easily thought twice about taking her daughter to the mall to see Santa. They have gone to the same mall for seven years to see the same Santa, the perfect Santa. She said while they were in the mall and waiting to see Santa she was nervous the entire time, scanning the mall and could not wait to leave. A few days later we turn in to her street and she sees a fire truck with flashing lights. The first thing out her mouth is "OMG,I wonder what happened and I hope every one is O K." Then she sees a Santa jump off the truck to bring her candy. The look on her face changed in a second from fear to a smile. Kids should not have to be AFRAID.

So this guy is in his early 20's and male. I have a right to be very very afraid of him and anyone else who thinks they are proving their manhood by walking in civilized society dressed like a guy who escaped from boot camp with his guns. And yes, they feel helpless without their nice pacifiers. I have to wonder how many of these guys were bottle fed, had pacifiers until they were 4, and still wet the bed.
ReplyDeleteThis just makes me sick! I do not understand why Americans are allowed to carry these type guns in public. All it does is create fear in some and others to what to deck the asshole. But, they won't because they have no clue if his guns are loaded.
ReplyDeleteWhat is our country coming to? There should be a limit as to freedom of speech (some of what is in print is actually treason!) as there should be in gun ownership.

IT'S ALL A LIE:
ReplyDeleteBy now everyone has seen this propaganda piece put out by the NRA claiming that the Obama girls have armed guards at their school. There's only one problem: That claim isn't true. Shame, shame, NRA, for living in such a deep silo you actually relied on a Breitbart.com report without any fact checking.
J.K. Trotter at The Atlantic picked this up late Friday:
You can see what's going on here. An erroneous report on Breitbart.com, the conservative activist news website, led NRA officials to believe that Sidwell Friends employs armed guards. (Breitbart seems to have misread a job posting for a security officer.) The NRA even appropriated Breitbart's argument: that the existence of such guards at an elite private school reveals Obama as an out-of-touch elitist, unaware of his own hypocrisy. From Breitbart reporter A.W.R. Hawkins:
Shame on President Obama for seeking more gun control and for trying to prevent the parents of other school children from doing what he has clearly done for his own. His children sit under the protection guns afford, while the children of regular Americans are sacrificed.
Hawkins adds:
If you dismiss this by saying, "Of course they have armed guards — they get Secret Service protection," then you've missed the larger point [...] that this is standard operating procedure for [Sidwell Friends], period.
It's worth noting here that Breitbart is not an underground website, and the report the NRA ads refer to is not obscure: it currently boasts over a thousand comments, and was shared on Facebook or Twitter by over 143,000 people.

DeleteUnless it's someone a pastier shade of white than him. And older. Or a woman. Or any combination. All of us old crackers get a +1 from the judges and DA's who are mostly elected officials. We vote like no other demographic. Plus we're wealthier and more politically active than some 22 yr old thug who may or may not have even paid his NRA dues. This gun nut doesn't even understand the politics of the moment well enough to put a target on his own back like he's doing to himself. It's a shame his bagger brothers-in-spirit don't yank his chain and set him straight. Not every old fart is as scared of his gun as he will be when he's forced to use it in a split-second decision in a situation where he sees himself as having the upper hand because "his gun is bigger". That just ain't how the world works, yellow belly, yellow shirt, whoever. The coroner is on salary and he'll be at work today regardless of whether or not yellow shirt is as smart as he thinks he is or as stupid as he appears to most. In my youth, I witnessed a few old timers who weren't afraid to give an ass-whippin to a smart-ass punk that the boy's daddy should've done so he wouldn't put himself in that position. When you've seen death up real close and personal and been forced to kill or be killed, putting some punk on the ground holding his dick and crying to his mama for being disrespectful is just another walk in the park. He'll learn or it will just be painful every time he takes a piss for a while. And don't even think about getting a stiffy, bagger boy.
NRA Fueled Loonies Are Now Threatening Democratic Members of Congress
ReplyDeleteThis is straight out of the right’s playbook. We have now moved on to the part of the process when the Republican base has been whipped into fear by the NRA and their Fox News led conservative media, so they are now threatening Democratic members of Congress.
http://www.politicususa.com/nra-fueled-loonies-threatening-democratic-members-congress.html
I can think of one way to react to that guy. I would seek out the store's manager and explain that I can't shop in that store for fear of my life. At the drop of a pin, that nut will start firing at anything and anyone. If enough people tell the manager the same thing, then the store will have to choose between letting the guy with the rifle-- or the law abiding folks who are frightened of what he might do enter the store. The store can provide security if Yellow Shirt is afraid to shop there. I would make sure that the store knows that if they allow him in, they are losing my business.
ReplyDeleteMy initial reaction would be screaming running to management saying just what you said. The over the top emotional hysterics are a necessary component initially to such stupidity.
DeleteI think I would point and laugh as loud as possible and use words such as eunuch, neutered and castrated generously sprinkled with penis substitution. And I would pull out my camera and blatantly take pictures, especially when he turned around.
DeleteWhen I divorced, I gave away the two rifles in the house -- rural area, livestock to put out of their misery situation. One rifle had never been fired; the other just a few times.
ReplyDeleteI also have a bunch of psychiatric issues. So, tell me, does giving away the guns make me normal?
Not everyone who does something you don't approve of is a psycho. Just sayin'.
What are you even trying to say? Your simplistic attempt at logic is a stunning fail.
DeleteI am only slightly relieved that he is a 'former' and not current member of the military.
ReplyDeletePerhaps he is confused about the difference between Iraq and Utah. I know that both names start with a vowel and have four letters, but someone might want to remind him that he is no longer in a war zone and is unnecessarily causing terror in the people he encounters. Carrying a weapon like that...in JC Penney, for crying out loud!!!
As for weapons not being 'dangerous when handled by law-abiding citizens', I have two questions for him. Does an unloaded weapon slung on your back have any purpose other than to inspire fear? And, if it IS loaded in order to have some protective function, how can it possibly be safe when it is hanging on your back, out of your reach but well within the reach of anyone walking past, including children?
And just what kind of additional protection does an UNLOADED gun give him? Here is someone looking for publicity not protection!
ReplyDeleteA cane upside his head by a senior walking in the mall for exercise and this wimp high-tails it home to his buddies to brag bout how he was scaring all the women and children at JCPenney. Delete'Gun Appreciation Day' Inspires Activists To Come Together To Fight For Stricter Laws
ReplyDeleteActivists are scrambling to mobilize support for the gun-control initiatives proposed by President Obama on Wednesday while opponents are signaling they’re ready for a fight.
A “Gun Appreciation Day,” the first of its kind, is set for January 19, two days before Obama’s second inauguration, a date that coincides with the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, which is celebrated as a day of service.
East Texas Congressman Steve Stockman (R), who has called for Obama’s impeachment over his support for tightening the nation’s gun laws, has endorsed the date because of its proximity to the official start of the president’s second term.
Gun Appreciation Day, said Stockman, will allow “Americans nationwide to show their support for gun ownership by turning out en masse at gun stores, ranges, and shows from coast to coast.”
As opponents to the president’s initiatives prime for their day on the range, ColorOfChange.org, MoveOn.org and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee were just a few of the groups uniting supporters for the coming fight over guns.
Obama, who acknowledged his policies will be derided as “a tyrannical, all-out assault on liberty” by “pundits and politicians and special interest lobbyists,” has also enlisted the help of his grassroots supporters in Obama for America.
Rashad Robinson, executive director of ColorOfChange.org, an online civil rights group, tells TakePart his organization will be putting pressure on corporations that support the National Rifle Association and its allied advocacy group, the American Legislative Exchange Council.
“For us,” says Robinson, “it’s about taking on the wide range of laws that allow guns to be readily available in communities around the country, and holding political leaders and corporations accountable for the ways they’ve allowed the gun industry to have so much power over our political system.”

And counselmen in Travis county Texas are waging a war on gunshows(highest population of any county in Texas, we may have lost this vote, but it is far from finished.
DeleteThere were 5 'accidental' shootings at three different gun shows today. What a perfect example of what happens when you carry loaded weapons without knowing how to do so safely.
DeleteIf Lance Armstrong pays for what he wastes in water, we can thumb our nose at the revenue lost from having to kowtow to these nuts. If not Travis, nowhere is possible. But if Travis supports banning/heavily regulation the gun show circuit, it's a first step to chipping away at Tejas until the nuts have to listen to the people, not just those lining pockets.
DeleteThousands Plead With Walmart: Stop Selling Assault Weapons
ReplyDeleteWalmart Assault Weapons Protest Gains Momentum As Hundreds Of Thousands Demand Action
This week, thousands across the United States put pressure on retail giant Walmart to stop selling assault weapons and ammunition.
According to an earlier report by The Huffington Post, Walmart is facing "increased criticism for continuing to sell assault weapons" in the wake of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., last month.
On Jan. 15, dozens of activists and gun violence survivors gathered for a rally at a Walmart store in Danbury, Conn., and delivered four petitions. With a total of more than 300,000 signatures, the petitions called for the world's largest retailer to stop selling and advertising assault weapons in stores.
"Walmart is making it easy and appealing to purchase an assault weapon. Assault weapons cause mass murder and should be left for law enforcement and military. Civilians do not need to have any assault weapons in their homes," writes one Change.org petition. "Advertising is something that creates wants and needs. To create a want for such a weapon only promotes violence."
More than 113,000 people have signed the Change.org petition so far.
According to a Friday news release, thousands more have stepped forward in the past few days to demand that Walmart pull assault weapons and ammunition from its shelves.
"Since the petition delivery on Tuesday, more then [sic] 10,000 people have taken to Walmart’s Facebook page to register their voices and urge Walmart executives to honor their 2004 pledge and stop selling assault weapons and ammunition," the release said. "Additionally, organizers from SumofUs.org, MomsRising and Courage Campaign report that more than 2,500 Walmart customers have placed calls to Walmart corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas urging the company to stop selling assault weapons in all of their stores. More calls are expected today and throughout the weekend."

I don't consider him to be a "law-abiding citizen." I consider him to be a lunatic and any police officers who permitted such behavior ought to lose their jobs. Of course, it's probably legal to "open carry" weapons in Utah.
ReplyDeleteI think that anyone who is so insecure that he/she cannot go outside without a weapon should be required to wear a day/night glow holster with the unloaded weapon padlocked into it. Then they can walk around armed to the teeth if that's what excites the person but the rest of us can see just how inadequate he or she really is.
Beaglemom
I have a hard time believing that such a chunkmeister is a former soldier. They've really cracked down on fitness.
ReplyDeleteAlso- so what if he told the police he'd be there and the guns were unloaded? That just tells the crazed killer what to do to prevent the cops from being called before he starts.
Personally? If I walked in to J.C. Penney and saw that, I'd be back in my car in a flash, and on the interstate quicker than that. And I would not be back to J.C. Penney for a long, long time. And I would call ahead to ask the policy regarding weapons in the store.
ReplyDeleteCompanies with brick and mortar consumer operations need to think this thing through, because no one really needs to shop at the mall anymore.
Carrying a big dangerous gun on your shoulder in public will definitely make your penis grow larger. Telling people that you pump iron works just as well and isn't as hazardous to your health.
ReplyDeleteGuns make a guy's penis larger? Oh my. Well, yes, sort of, at least to those ignorant of science. Actually, it just makes a male gun goon THINK his penis is bigger than it was before, but that's just from the blood flow engorging the shaft of his penis because he's sexually aroused.
DeleteNow you can explain ito the next gun goon that you see in the mirror. evrn if it happens to a special someone looking over your shoulder while giving you a reach-around. Just tell yourself, er, your gun goon 'buddy' that it's the same phenomena that occurs when he's around 10 and 11-year old boys, Creepy Junior. OR younger co-workers, if you're married with a couple of sons and you're a miserable scum fucking around behind your wife's back again. "He" will know EXACTLY what you are explaining. But of course, you'll want to measure him 'before' and after, just to provide REAL objective 'data' for your 'lab partner, won't you, Mister Family Man?
You're a sly one, aren't you, Fat Boy? Just really clever and all that shit, aren't you (in YOUR dreams)? Allways trolling them youngsters. You'd think a middle aged guy like yourself had at least learned by the age of 50 that keeping your pants zipped up around young'uns would make your life a little less stressful.
But then again, as you were quoted as saying. "What do I know? I just grew up with her (referring to your LITTLE sister, Sarah (Heath) Palin).. Sounds like a mea culpa to me. Just saying'.
Four paragraphs of anger and venting in response to two lines of sarcasm is a bit over the top, don't you think? I wonder which one of you owns a gun...
DeleteThem white ignorant gun totin' "men" remind me of the soldiers in Dances with wolves..the one taking a dump while looking at the purty pichures on the Lt Dunbar journal would be a far right Palin and West fan today.
ReplyDeleteIf it is UNLOADED, in what way is this anything more than what you stated; a penis extender that you can wear outside your pants.
ReplyDelete"I could take that weapon away in a second" was exactly the reaction of my ex-paratrooper dad. And when I replied "would he still be alive?", the response was just a curt nod.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the above conversation was a decade ago, it could have been about this idiot in the yellow shirt.
Yellow shirt's guns look laughably like a hood ornament penis enhancer. His weapon handling would be mocked by any trained soldiers/officers.
(Yes, my dad taught me to shoot. And my puny 22 rife was snatched from my hands and swung toward my head many, many times to teach me about what can happen.)
Yellow shirt wants to instill fear because he gets pleasure from it. He wants to control people around him. Quite likely a domestic abuser. And undoubtedly a bully from childhood.
Clearly is propaganda against guns. There is no truth in this ridiculous story.
ReplyDeleteANYONE who thinks they need an assault weapon is crazy!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not gun owners that are scary in general. It's the ones that must force their gun interest on others, by wearing them in public, like an in-your-face way. It's the bravado that is irritating. Most law-abiding gun owners don't usually tote their guns for public consumption and for showing off; there's a certain element of that certain kind of owners that need to show off, show how tough and macho they are.
ReplyDeleteIt's those kind that are intimidating to the rest of us. Don't they realize that a mom and her little kids shopping in a J.C. Penney store see the armed guy and, with the recent massacre on everyone's minds, frantically think this guy might go ballistic? Why can't the public just be allowed to enjoy their outings without suddenly wondering if the guy with the gun is (mental) or (sane).
NRA TP = National Rifle Assn Tea Party??? Nope, Try Again (That's what SHE said)
DeleteSelf-doubt just comes naturally with THOSE PEOPLE, the gun goon phallic fetishists. If you want to see a scared little man, tell him to leave his assault weapon in the car and come inside and make passionate love to you, and you won't be able to find his manhood for the rest of the evening, even with a pair of weezers and a 20x magnifying glass. Even the kind that are illuminated. It's more likely that the poor boy will shit his tightie-whities and make up an excuse about needing to feed his pet turtle, and making a quick exit home to his momma and sister (is he referring to the same person?).
NRA TP = Never Really Able To Perform
Been there, done that. If that decal is on his truck or his Facebook page, take a pass. He's not worth the dinner and a movie. Stay home and wash your hair. Or the dog. Or both. But don't bother returning his call, unless you're hungry and can go for a good laugh. But do the early-bird, so you don't waste an entire evening humiliating a NRA TP guy just for the lolz
Well, he could just wear a shirt that says "It's not how deep you fish, it's how you wiggle your worm".
ReplyDeleteMuch less threatening.
I wouldn't bother checking the LITTLE NRA BOY out, 'cause if he needs that assault rifle to feel like a man, he probably couldn't shoot fish in a barrel. Ask to see his worm, and the NRA boy's bait will be looking for a rock to hide under and go subterranean.
DeleteIf you don't know that he's one of those ALL TALK NRA types until you're already out with him, ladies, just take a deep breath, let it out slowly, and Relax. Then order a snifter of cognac AND one of EACH from the dessert tray/menu, and resign yourself to keeping your panties on, rather than humiliating the little fella by laughing in his face when he disrobes.
Then when the dessert order arrives, order another glass of Courveoisier and tell the wait person or steward to keep the damn glass full until I say when or until I leave.
By the time you're done with the desserts and a few glasses of the good stuff, ask to see that worm NOW. Be sure to have your iPhone charged and recording when you do, so you don't have to tell the story 100 times to your girlfriends. They can visit your Facebook and relive the experience as many times as it takes to become viral and for Daniel Tosh to hear about it and do a special. NRA feature.

ReplyDeleteI think that all Americans that shop at J.C. Penney should write to the managers of the stores, in their specific towns/cities, and tell them they will NOT shop in their stores UNLESS they NOT allow people in their stores that display guns.
ReplyDeleteThat should stop this crap from occurring. Same thing if they appear in other chain stores/shops throughout the USA.
An all out effort will stop this!
Call the store gm directly and politely ask for their district manager's name and contact information and the same for their regional manager. Then explain what you have to say to the store gm. Make sure you have his direct contact info and mail him a follow-up recap of your conversation, S well as a cc to the DM and the RM. You might even want to cc an attorney friend just as an attention getter only. You will get communication, action, follow-up and follow-through if you are polite, firm, and reasonable. Threats and yelling are counter productive. Going to legal dept relieves the local stores of their responsibility to manage the situation. You should never need to go higher than the regional level bc the operators at Tess levels can get things done and want to put little problems to bed before they snowball on them and wind up on their boss' to-do list. Helping make these people at these levels to be informed and to appear responsive to the needs of their customers will only help you leverage a win. If you get a commitment that is in your favor, thank them for taking action and confirm in writing after the fact. Email is less effective than a professionally written letter bc these mgrs get hundreds of emails daily. But when a customer takes time to write and edit a professional presentation, the mgr will probably have the letter in his shirt pocket u til it's put to bed bc he's going to assume that his boss probably has the same letter on top of his desk, too. I say his /he not because it will likely be a male, but just bc I am busy but lazy and still want to help you. You don't have to be overbearing or threatening. Just fair, reasonable, and persistent where need be. They want your business, I assure you. Help them help you. Good luck!
DeleteVP ( for Competior)
i would think the stores would ask these people wearing guns to please leave. what about the right to refuse service to anyone?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing, that cashier doesn't look too happy. If someone refused him service, much like a pharmacist refusing to fill "Plan B", I wonder what his reaction would be?
DeleteMoney talks. If the citizens refused to go to shopping malls until such time that such large penis extenders were outlawed in public places, the Chambers of Commerce would quickly polarize the GOP.
ReplyDeleteThis guy may want to "demonstrate" that seat belts work when crashing into a brick wall while doing 90 miles an hour. Or "demonstrate" that someone CAN survive going off the Niagara Falls in a Barrel, and I'd be perfectly ok with it.
ReplyDeleteIf you wanna "Demonstrate" you "gun" "works", you may like the company of a woman, and ruining one's shopping experience won't help get you one, just saying!
Epic Fail.
Your dad obviously understands that this punk won't be loading OR dreaming of reloading when he's gasping for air after his trachea is crushed with one blow. Oh we can save the patient after we remove his weapons from his person. But he's going to be uncomfortable until the threat is neutralized completely. I guess this punk would rather have a 2nd amendment debate or have someone try to stand their ground with a pocket knife of a pair of nail clippers. Sir, your Dad gets it but "yellow shirt" is just setting himself to be punked.
ReplyDeleteJC Penny should have management throughout the US in their stores stop people from coming in with visible guns like this asshole did! Call your JC Penney stores in your area and tell them you won't shop there unless they stop guns being on display like in the photo. Kids are with their mothers - it would be a frightening experience to all.
ReplyDeleteWhat is wrong Americans. Stand up! We have to do something to stop this crap. Make calls - write letters - stop shopping in stores that allow this.
I don't care for open carry as a gun owner. But if its legal... whatever. I've heard the reasons and I would still conceal carry all day long. If you want a huge target on you that says "Shoot me first" - go for it...
ReplyDeleteBut on the other side:
I just think its funny that people go with stereotypical remarks like "Penis extension" would have a cow if I used any derogatory remark about any other group of people.
But what can you say about close minded bigoted, prejudiced people that use old worn out lines?
