Chris Matthews: Republicans are using "Cold War CIA tactics to destabilize our own country."
Courtesy of Raw Story:
“If they didn’t like a government somewhere — Guatemala, Iran, the Dominican Republic, Chile — they just brought it down,” he said. “Guess what, Republicans are now using the same tactic here at home. If they don’t like who we’ve elected president, they find some way to undermine the government, discredit its leaders, whatever it takes to destroy it.”
“We are using in this country the same old Cold War CIA tactics to destabilize our own country,” Matthews continued. “Look at the impact of the constant threats to shut down the government on public confidence. It’s all in the ratings. It’s making people forever nervous about the basic ability of America to even have a running government. Is that patriotic? I don’t think so.”
You know I think for the most part Matthews and I are on the same side of the ideological fence, but sometimes I am embarrassed by his bombastic approach to journalism or his over the top criticisms, condemnations, or compliments.
But I have to say that THIS time, though it may at first seem like an over the top criticism, sadly he is dead on.
Yes the Republican party is indeed acting as if they are trying to destabilize this country.
Which begs the question, is it possible to put an entire political party on trial for treason?

I agree with Chris Matthews on this. Totally. But that segment he calls "Let me finish..." always makes me laugh -- if only he would let his guests finish! He's always talking over them, like the second or two satellite delay is just too much for him. Love you Chris, but please: Shut up and let your guests answer your questions!
ReplyDeleteI can not believe we have so many ignorant people in this country. I realize our birthrate has gone down since the baby-boom, but why can't people remember the history of the cold war? Almost everyone between the ages of 7 and 65 has had some access to a computer and can fact-check anything that has been news forever. I'm 73 and know how to use a computer and can fact-check anything I don't agree with or want to learn. I certainly know that anything that comes out of a politicians mouth needs to be checked. We have thousands of laws on the books but these idiots keep making up new laws to suit their fancy. Need some fact-checkers to show these neo-cons there are already laws we need to obey. Starting with Roe v Wade! It is legal to get an abortion in this country. If you don't believe in this law...don't have an abortion. Why make it a crime to do it? If churches don't like the laws on the books, then they don't need tax-exempt status. If their members want to follow their church do it...don't expect non-members to follow their rules. We live in the US and we expect our elected officials to follow laws too. Don't keep changing them to fit their needs or wishes or pay-offs for a corporation to vote their way. Wake up America before they sell us down the drain!
ReplyDeleteAgree with you completely , however, the radical right keeps pushing these restrictive ant abortion laws in the hopes that they can get a case in from of the Supreme Court while they still have a chance to overturn Roe v Wade. That's the end game here. Why Republicans want more babies born is beyond me, cause as soon as that fetus exits the womb they legislate against it with cuts to education , health, and welfare programs.
DeleteAs far as Chris Matthews goes, he always describes himself as "center-left", so I would say you pretty much align with his politics Gryphen, except for religion, Matthews is Catholic.
2:18, I'm not far behind you in age (65) and I couldn't agree with you more.
DeleteWhat's with the current population? Why do they allow such crap to go on?
Simple. A tremendous number of them went through a school system that didn't know how to teach critical thinking as we were taught. That and they are too lazy to actually DO fact checking. They would rather play games on their computers than actually READ!
Yes, they have the greatest source of information in the history of Mankind available to them, but too many of them refuse to use it because they are raised to think like their parents, most of whom never got taught logical and/or critical thinking either.
This ignorance shit began when the Federal Government started to put it's foot into the class rooms in 1964. And it is steadily getting worse.
Sorry, but in my mind they have already sold us down the river. MAYBE, just MAYBE, it isn't too late and we can scream loudly enough that it might get reversed. But I'm not going to hold my breath while I scream, either.
anon@2:18... I am the same age and totally agree with you on all counts! Let's just keep up with our searches for accuracy and accountability.
DeleteIt will keep our minds agile and our tongues sharp...;)
The 'ignorance shit' as Leland says (and I might add laziness) is why the idiots rely so heavily on people like limbaugh to tell them what to believe. They don't bother with googling or investigating the facts. The corrupt in power know this and use these mouths to send their false messages out.
Delete"If rush said it, it must be true!!"
lol!

Well, duh...Of course the Republicans are doing this. The whole mantra of the GOP/Christian conservatives in this age of an African-american president is to do their gosh-darndest to see him fail. The Republican Party would let and is letting this country go down a toilet because they cannot stand that a black man and a black Democrat to boot, is in the White House.
ReplyDeleteAnd, you will surely agree with him again once you view his show today. He nails Sarah Palin and aggressively claims that all she will be remembered for is being a quitter.

He's a hundred percent correct! And yes, they should all be tried for treason.
