Florida man fires gun into car of escaping shoplifter in order to "mark" the man's car. Surprised when he gets arrested.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

A gun owner in Florida was arrested on Wednesday after he opened fire at a suspected Walmart shoplifter because he said he felt threatened and wanted to “mark” the man’s car for police.

As unarmed 42-year-old Eddie McKee allegedly ran from an Orange City Walmart with stolen merchandise, 35-year-old Jose Martinez pulled out his gun and fired at least five bullets, according to WKMG.

“I saw one black gentleman running from the parking lot, he dove in his car,” a caller told 911. “And there were two older gentlemen chasing him down. One drew a gun, ripped open the guys car door and screamed, ‘Freeze, freeze, don’t move!’ And then fired shots.”

Bullets riddled McKee’s vehicle, hitting the trunk and shattering the back window. Two other cars were also hit by gunfire.

Martinez told WKMG that he was shocked that police arrested him because he thought no one other than the shoplifter was in danger. He said he just wanted to mark the man’s car for police.

Orange City police argued that surveillance video showed that the gun owner was never in danger because McKee was in the process of fleeing when the shooting occurred.

Yeah who would have ever thought that firing indiscriminately into traffic would be considered a bad idea?

Some of these asswipes carry those guns around just hoping for the opportunity to go all John Wayne and shoot some  guy that they think has given them an excuse to end their life. If successful this idiot would have given a death sentence to a man who probably will only be convicted of a misdemeanor.

You know the guy that shoplifted and knocked that lady over is certainly no victim here, but the idea of firing numerous shots in a crowded parking lot because you feel you have the right to do so in response to criminal behavior is EXACTLY why supporting the arming everyday citizens is simply a ridiculous, and dangerous, idea.

Do these asswipes not know the term "ricochet?" Hint: it ain't just cartoon rabbit.

He could have killed innocent bystanders, including kids in nearby cars.

And no amount of classes would help with this idiocy. STUPID CAN'T LEARN. (Kind of reminds me of the Repubes!)

I don't believe that when SoS Kerry said "people have a right to be stupid" he had jackasses like this guy in mind.

The SOB obviously couldn't just look at the car and read the tag, cuz 'he don't read numbers and letters too good'. What a fuck-tard, and I mean that in a good kkkristyun kind of way.

Any "reason" this idiot gave/gives for firing a weapon in parking lot is a story he's telling himself to enhance his sense of manhood.

He responded to an adrenaline surge by yanking out his penis substitute and discharging it. He could very well have killed someone and he did NOT care. His thoughts were focused on his illusion of manhood.

And, yet again, we are left to ask what part of "a well-regulated militia" involves manslaughter of bystanders in shopping center parking lot.

The a--hole was going to kill someone over which was most likely a petty theft at Walmart. What hell does the theft have to do with his ignorant ass?! And it certainly did not warrant a death sentence.
I am glad his ignorant ass got arrested.

"Two other cars were also hit by gunfire. "

This "responsible" gun owner's action is horrifying. And the owners of the two wounded cars have got to be thinking it could have been me!!! as they fill in their insurance claim forms.

Exactly! The Florida "Stand Your Ground" law must go, but tell that to the legislature, and they laugh at you.

Police officers get a lot of training in target acquisition so that they prevent collateral damage. Your average concealed carry fan probably not so much.

Even then trained officers miss with most shots they fire. Not a criticism, just a fact. Idiots like this one and gangbangers are even more likely to miss. Thus the fetish for large magazines. The more bullets they can ejaculate, the better the odds of at least one hit.

And no cop, not even in the movies, is going to fire into a crowd or in a public place to stop a petty thief.

Once again as a Floridian, I'm apologizing for the actions of our red necks that live here in Florida. We of course raise our own red neck's, but because of our weather we get many who move to Florida from up north. You also may have heard this past week about the guy who's dog "shot him" after his dog pushed a gun to the floor while he was driving his pick up. That happened in Florida too. Just don't think we're all that stupid. Stupidity seems to be a disease that you're not only born with, but is also influenced by the environment you grew up in. Red neck fathers like to pass on their red neck way's to their sons. And we all know there is no cure for stupid.

I always recommend that people read Carl Hiaassen, Tim Dorsey and Robert Tacoma if they want a giggle at the expense of the idiocracy in Florida. But hey, you're right, there are idiots everywhere! My father always says "places are just people" and you can move elsewhere but you'll still be surrounded by a certain number of idiots!

We may not think you are all that stupid, but as a family who has annually vacationed in your state over spring break, we are thinking twice and thrice - and likely not this year - or any year that asswipe Scott is your gov.
And sorry, Florida does seem to have a higher concentration of crazy these days - largely because of the mediscooter riding wingnut cheering section egging those still capable of actualizing stoopid on.

I think it's a cultural staycation in blue Chicago this year.

The gun made him so brave! He chased the car on foot and opened the door on a moving vehicle...with a loaded gun on him.

What "value" could whatever the shoplifter picked up have that could justify endangering the public?

    Threatened? By a shoplifter?

I'm not trying to claim shoplifting isn't a crime, don't get me wrong. But shoplifting isn't a *violent* crime. What was the guy going to do, smack him in the head with a Wal-Mart bag?

Sounds like this guy is just trying to throw excuses out to get himself out of jailtime.

In his first interview since November's presidential election, Mitt Romney compared the end of the 2012 campaign to the sensation of getting off a roller coaster.

"We were on a roller coaster, exciting and thrilling, ups and downs," Romney told Fox News' Chris Wallace in an interview set to air on Fox News Sunday on March 3. "But the ride ends. And then you get off. And it's not like, oh, can't we be on a roller coaster the rest of our life? It's like, no, the ride's over."

The Fox interview, which Romney and his wife, Ann, sat down for this week, marks the former Republican presidential candidate's first since losing the race to President Barack Obama.

Ann Romney said she believes the couple has done well with the post-election "adjustment," likening it to roles they have had in their church.

"In our church, we're used to serving and you know, you can be in a very high position, but you recognize you're serving," she said. "And then all of a sudden, you're released and you're nobody. And we're used to that."

She continued, "It was really quite a lot of energy and a lot of passion and a lot of -- a lot of people around us and all of a sudden, it was nothing."

And this is exactly what the gun-nuts overlook when they whine about "losing their 2nd amendment rights":

When you relax laws so that "GOOD PEOPLE" can more easily get guns - that makes it easier for the "BAD GUYS" and "IDIOTS" to get guns, too!

Also: when you tighten the restrictions on gun-ownership, it does NOT lessen the probability for "GOOD PEOPLE" to own guns. It only deters gun-ownership by "BAD GUYS" and "IDIOTS".

NO ONE wants to take guns away from GOOD AMERICAN CITIZENS - but we DO want to take guns away from CRIMINALS and CRAZY PEOPLE.

...and idiots like the moron that thought it would be a really clever idea to whip out his handgun and blaze away at a moving car.
