Investigating "The Good News Club." A fundamentalist Christian club that inserts itself into public schools to proselytize to young children.

Here is a portion of the post I wrote about the book which inspired this investigation:

In 2009, the Good News Club came to the public elementary school where journalist Katherine Stewart sent her children. The Club, which is sponsored by the Child Evangelism Fellowship, bills itself as an after-school program of “Bible study.” But Stewart soon discovered that the Club’s real mission is to convert children to fundamentalist Christianity and encourage them to proselytize to their “unchurched” peers, all the while promoting the natural but false impression among the children that its activities are endorsed by the school.

Astonished to discover that the U.S. Supreme Court has deemed this—and other forms of religious activity in public schools—legal, Stewart set off on an investigative journey to dozens of cities and towns across the nation to document the impact. In this book she demonstrates that there is more religion in America’s public schools today than there has been for the past 100 years. The movement driving this agenda is stealthy. It is aggressive. It has our children in its sights. And its ultimate aim is to destroy the system of public education as we know it.

Our public education system is constantly under attack by  conservative and religious forces, and this is just one method at their disposal to be used to usher in the end of public education.

P.S. I know the video is a little longish, but I urge you to take the time to watch it as the information is quite astonishing and should be seen by as many people as possible.

The other method is sex negative (aka abstinence only) programs through RCC Hospitals. The contradiction in this is that the RCC is arguing that these hospitals shouldn't have to provide BC to employees because it is essentially an arm of the RCC mission. In which case sex ed programs are public school paid and endorse so should not be in the schools.

All this faith freedom bullshit would die down if non-Christian groups started pressing for their right to proselytize to young impressionable kids also too.

Gah!!!! It's simple NO RELIGION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS!! These so called Christians need to keep to themselves. Imagine if there were an Islamic after school program in a public school somewhere. Those "Good News" people would have a fit.

    Some more info here.

    1. The constitution does not promote Freedom from Religion but Freedom of Religion. When things are optional we have freedom. If we have not option, we have no freedom to choose.

    2. Constitution provides for Freedom of Religion not freedom from religion. Without a choice, there is not freedom. Sounds like you would prefer a country, a school and a life wherein there is no choice for persons to choose Religion, Jesus or Christianity or any other religion.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if one of the kids tells them to essentially drop dead and walks out?

(I suspect I already know the answer.)

In early Dec my grandchildren brought home flyers from school concerning a "gift drive" the school was promoting. The children were asked to pack shoe boxes with various items for needy children. I thought that sounded like a great idea. There was a list of items that could be included such as toothbrushes, small toys, etc. I assumed this was a project the school had thought up. At the bottom of the flyer what did I find but Franklin Graham's organization!! That was a bit of a surprise. I did not participate and thought at the time I needed to get in touch with the school to tell them why - but at the time my mind was on other things - both of my husband's parents were in their last days and we were so preoccupied. But - the point I wanted to make with this is that religion creeps in in various guises.

    1. If we come out with a cure for cancer, should we keep it a secret or advertise it to the world? Of course, humans always want to live longer. However, the sinful (selfish) nature of humanity is such that we don't consider the eternal consequences of our life without God. This is why there must be people who are willing to look foolish, in your face, telling you that God loves you and will forgive your sin, if you will only repent and believe. Otherwise, on our own, no one would. This would leave a world complete with lost souls.

In my small, rural Indiana town, the Good News club was nothing more than a way for members to get their drugs under the noses of the moderators, who frequently had the kids over and served alcohol at their HS seniors' grad parties.
It was also a place to "hook up" and the pregnancy rate for the club as a lot higher than for the general population of the public schools.

A few yr ago my grandchild brought home a flyer that said they could bring in canned goods, to school. It wsn't just going to food pantry but a church mission ( I will not name). The kids would just drop them off at school, they could get up to 40 points on grades. split them any way they wanted or just on one grade. I couldn't believe this because the kids weren't really doing anything, it was the parents that could afford to go out and buy more canned goods, that their kids were getting the grades improved. ( if it were an extra credit project of a class and each person got so many credits, and they went and did all the work)Another time I was going through his back pack and found a bible ,asked him how that got in his backpack, he said he got it at school. The school is locked down and act like your not welcome there, but let the Gideons in to hand out bibles, and he felt he had to take the bible. They do that because children are taught to listen to adults and don't want to do anything that makes them feel different. That is why it shouldn't be allowed. They never stop trying to inject religion onto others.

Ann Coulter Booed During John Stossel Debate After Criticizing Libertarians, Gay Marriage (VIDEO)

Ann Coulter was booed by a crowd of students this week after she made comments criticizing libertarians and gay marriage.

Coulter appeared on Fox Business Network's "Stossel" on Thursday, during which she got into a heated debate with host John Stossel and a roomful of libertarian students.

The show was taped at the International Students for Liberty Conference in Washington, D.C.; around 1,400 students were reportedly in attendance.

The conversation took a bitter turn when Stossel -- an outspoken libertarian himself -- and Coulter began discussing the country's drug war and marijuana legalization. She said libertarians spent way too much time talking about drugs when they should be talking about government regulation and employment policy — and that they were just "sucking up to liberals."

"Libertarians and pot," said Coulter. "This is why people think libertarians are p-ssies." (Mediaite's Andrew Kirell, who was at the debate, wrote that though the word was bleeped out in the broadcast, Coulter definitely dished out that particular insult.)

Stossel went on to ask Coulter about gay marriage. “Why can’t gays get married?” he asked.

“Well, they can,” Coulter said. They have to marry a member of the opposite sex.”

At this point, the room erupted in boos.

O/T but The Crypt Keeper's Daughter seems to be on a rampage:

Ann Coulter Lashes Out At Republicans And Latinos Over Immigration Reform

Ann Coulter has given up on the Latino vote.

In an opinion piece riddled with errors and unattributed statistics, the conservative columnist lashed out at Republicans working to pass comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship, saying that Latinos will never vote for the GOP because they are too poor and government-dependent.

Coulter begins her article by grossly overestimating the undocumented population, asking “why do Republicans want to create up to 20 million more Democratic voters, especially if it involves flouting the law?”

In fact, the total undocumented population stands at about 11.1 million, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

There's also no reason to assume that undocumented Latinos would automatically vote Democrat if they gained citizenship. Not all U.S. Hispanic citizens vote and some 27 percent of them voted for Mitt Romney in last year’s presidential election.

Repeating a line routinely offered by the Mitt Romney presidential campaign last year, Coulter notes that polls indicate that immigration is not the number one concern for most Hispanics.

But that doesn’t mean it’s a non-issue for Latino voters, as Coulter claims when she says “Trying to appeal to Hispanics with amnesty would be like trying to win over baseball fans by shouting ‘Go Yankees!’ at a Mets game.”

    In fact,

Pope Benedict XVI Resigned Partly Because Of Powerful Vatican Gay Lobby, Italian Paper Claims

Was the pope under the influence of a secretive "gay lobby" within the Vatican itself?

That's the claim put forth by Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica.

On Thursday, the popular paper published an article alleging that Pope Benedict XVI's decision to resign this month was partly prompted by a report that accused Vatican officials of being under the influence of several internal lobbies, reportedly including a gay one.

The Irish Times reports that Benedict commissioned the report after the Vatileaks scandal broke last year. The report, written by a trio of cardinals, concluded that "various lobbies within the Holy See were consistently breaking" the sixth and seventh commandments, "thou shalt not commit adultery" and "thou shalt not steal."

(The sixth commandment referencing adultery has historically been tied to the Catholic Church's doctrine banning homosexuality.)

The nearly 300-page dossier would be passed on to pope's successor, the report added.

Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, released an arguably vague statement about the accusations.

"Neither the cardinals' commission nor I will make comments to confirm or deny the things that are said about this matter," he said, according to the Guardian. "Let each one assume his or her own responsibilities. We shall not be following up on the observations that are made about this."

The Guardian also reported that a separate Italian daily, Corriere della Sera, mentioned a "disturbing" dossier in an article published soon after the pope's resignation announcement.

Scandalous revelations involving the Vatican and gay sex have been published by La Repubblica before. In 2010, the newspaper revealed wiretaps and police documents that showed a Vatican chorister and an elite papal usher had been involved with a gay prostitutes ring. Both men were dismissed from their duties, the Telegraph notes.

La Repubblica's allegations are only the latest in a string of theories relating to the pope's sudden departure, which has prompted rampant speculation.

Benedict himself has further confused matters with his Ash Wednesday homily, in which he referenced vague internal "divisions."

“I am thinking in particular of the sins against the unity of the church, of the divisions in the body of the church," Benedict said, according to the Washington Post.

  11. What's the difference between Evangelicals and the Taliban? NOT A DAMN THING. Both seek to IMPOSE their religion, their morality, their beliefs and their ways of life on the rest of us.

It's not religious instruction - its indoctrination. Its being bludgeoned with religion, its about their strict and narrow version of "gospel" being imposed. Its about propaganda, and intimidation, and bullying in the name of Christianity.

That is NOT what Jesus intended at all...

  14. Yes the bible taught that Saul was to obey God in the genocide of the Amelkites. However, this must be tempered with the fact that upon the New Covenant through Jesus, this old ways were to be outdated by this newer and better covenant Heb 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord:I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God,and they shall be my people.
