Tell me again that there is no GOP "War on Women." Update!

Just take a moment to look at that graphic from today's vote on the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Oh, and it is not ONLY women they are at war with.

This from Mother Jones:

Republicans had held up the law for more than a year over provisions designed to protect undocumented immigrants, Native Americans and members of the LGBT community. In a separate, earlier vote, the House rejected an alternative, stripped-down VAWA pushed by House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor, instead embracing the bipartisan version of the bill the Senate passed last week.

The Senate version of the bill, however, was itself a modified version of Democrats' original bill, passed after Democrats acquiesced to Republican objections and removed a section that would have made more visas available to undocumented victims of domestic violence who help law enforcement prosecute their abusers. But the Senate's compromise bill wasn't good enough for the House Republican leadership, who introduced an alternate version that removed protections for members of the LGBT community and made it harder for tribal courts to prosecute non-Indian abusers.

Just to provide some context:

Thursday's vote was much closer than 2005, the last time the Violence Against Women Act was reauthorized. This year, the bill passed 286-138, with just 87 Republicans joining all 199 Democrats (one Democrat did not vote). In 2005, there were only four "no" votes.

And look at the groups of people that this act will help protect, women, gays, and immigrants. The VERY people that the Republican party has admitted they need to do a better job of reaching out to.

Well good job so far morons!

If this does not absolutely prove beyond any shadow of the doubt that this Republican party is overrun with most misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic group of chubby old men in all of Washington D.C., I don't know what will.

You know in the sixties women symbolically burned their bras to demonstrate their independence, perhaps now is the time to burn their Republican party member card to demonstrate the same.

Update: Just what in the hell is wrong with Michelle Bachmann?

Courtesy of Star Tribune:

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann was the lone member of Minnesota's congressional delegation to vote against the Violence Against Women Act, a law credited with raising awareness about abuse of women

A woman hating woman.

I think it is high time that Minnesota kicked this batshit lunatic to the curb.

I have no respect for any woman who is a member of the RCC and now I add, or the Republican Party.

I was just thinking about how the recent attacks here in Alaska on women and minority rights are going to backfire bigtime on these A-holes. They are giddy with power right now and putting forth all their much beloved legislative stupidity. But piss off a bunch of Alaskan Ladies and they'll do much more than just change their political affiliations. It will be like waking up a grizzly bear in her den.

I live far from Minnesota, but sent a small donation to Bachmann's Democratic opponent last fall. We need to back up each other by supporting anti-Tea Party candidates when we can. I live in an entirely blue state, so my voice can be heard only with a donation.

While the Republicans are looking to make voting more difficult for minorities, they forgot that woman are the majority. If Hillary runs in 2016, they had better watch out, because women have this wonderful characteristic of remembering every wrong and slight against them. The Republicans didn't learn anything from Romney's "binders full of women" and Ann's "I love you women" remarks. They did not get a majority of women's votes. And now, the Republicans are just making it easier for Hillary in 2016.

The Republican majority in the House is split. This reality was revealed today in a painfully obvious way when sane, moderate Republicans joined the Democratic minority to pass the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), while the Tea Party version failed to garner enough votes to be more than an embarrassing reminder of their extremism.

President Barack Obama: “I was pleased to see the House of Representatives come together and vote to reauthorize and strengthen the Violence Against Women Act. Over more than two decades, this law has saved countless lives and transformed the way we treat victims of abuse.”

“Today’s vote will go even further by continuing to reduce domestic violence, improving how we treat victims of rape, and extending protections to Native American women and members of the LGBT community. The bill also reauthorizes the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, providing critical support for both international and domestic victims of trafficking and helping ensure traffickers are brought to justice.

“I want to thank leaders from both parties – especially Leader Pelosi, Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Senator Leahy – for everything they’ve done to make this happen. Renewing this bill is an important step towards making sure no one in America is forced to live in fear, and I look forward to signing it into law as soon as it hits my desk.”

We've been trying to get rid of Crazy Shelly for years. She almost lost in 2012 so I predict 2014 her ass will be kicked to the curb.

War and IGNORANCE, for certain! P.S. Don't miss the comments, some of them are hysterically funny, and right on.

    Republican’s ignorance of trans-vaginal ultrasounds

During a town hall meeting last week, Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) claimed to be ignorant of trans-vaginal ultrasounds and their recent involvement in the debate over abortion rights.

Duffy was asked whether he supported the Woman’s Right to Know her Unborn Child Act, which would require a woman to receive a trans-vaginal ultrasound prior to terminating her pregnancy. Top Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature have said the bill was a “priority” and “long overdue.”

But Duffy said he didn’t know what a trans-vaginal ultrasound was.

“I haven’t had one,” he remarked.

His comment was greeted with laughter.

“I haven’t heard of it,” Duffy added. “And just like I told you I’m pro life, and I know that you are too, but I’m not willing to say I’ll support what you’re talking about because I haven’t seen the bill, even though we’re probably in agreement on that issue.”

The Republican lawmaker has described himself as “100 percent pro-life without exceptions.” During a debate last year, Duffy called the group NARAL Pro-Choice America “disgusting” because they supported “late term abortions and partial birth abortions.” He has supported a number of anti-abortion bills in Congress.

It's FRIGHTENING to witness the absolute thickheadedness of people who are making laws in the country.

As a woman who has had this procedure, as a medical necessity, I can tell you that it is extremely unpleasant, even when you know it's being done for the sake of your baby. An anonymous radiologist enters the room, and violates you with a large, hard, cold wand, for what seems like forever, then leaves with hardly a word, while you get dressed and, in my case, had to wait for the results. Imagine if this sometimes painful and invasive procedure were forced on any pregnant woman who wanted to control her own destiny.
If one of these Republicans' wives were forced to endure this procedure, he wouldn't be able to go home that night. If one of the MEN, only one, had something simiiar inflicted on him before he could pick up his Viagra prescription, the matter would never be heard of again.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Shelly "Clueless" Bachmann. She's going to wake up one day and realize she's been, for all intents and purposes, gay married all her adult life.

Yeah, the Republican rebranding effort isn't looking too good.

Sorry, but I do not believe she will EVER "wake up to that". There is too much riding on it.

And she has convinced herself it isn't true. Unfortunately for her, she is too stupid to EVER rethink a situation base on new - or even EXISTING - evidence.

What's AK Rep. Don Young's excuse for not voting on VAWA?

What person wouldn't vote for this bill? Seriously, 138 nays? And the one and only woman, Michelle Bachman says Nay? What the fuck is wrong with congress. This should have been at least a 98% vote to pass this bill. I'm happy it was passed but what had to be given up in this bill? It makes me uterally sick to my stomach.
