Female pundit receives death threats for appearing on Sean Hannity show and daring to suggest that educating men would stop more rapes than arming women.

Courtesy of The New Civil Rights Movement:

Zerlina Maxwell, a liberal pundit and political analyst, appeared on Fox News‘ “Hannity” last week to advocate for men to not rape women. In return, Maxwell has become the target of a social media campaign threatening to gang rape and kill her.

Here is a portion of the offending comments according to Glenn Beck's  "news" site The Blaze:

“I don’t think that we should be telling women anything,” Maxwell said. “I think we should be telling men not to rape women and start the conversation there.”

“Criminals are not going to listen to that,” Hannity interjected.

“You are talking about it as if there is some faceless, nameless criminal, when a lot of times it is someone that you know and trust,” Maxwell replied.

Hannity pointed out that “evil exists in the world” and women need to know that these situations unfortunately occur.

“We can prevent rape by telling men not to commit it,” Maxwell said, repeating the same bizarre claim.

Instead, Maxwell, who is a rape survivor herself, said she wants women to “not be in this situation.” She added that if you “train” men not to be rapists, we can prevent rape.

“If firearms were the answer, then the military would be the safest place for women and it’s not,” she said.

Hannity of course is completely ridiculous here, seeming to have NO idea of how rapes actually happen in this country and imagining roving bands of rapists that can be gunned down en masse, instead of the acquaintance, angry lover, or family member who is most likely to be the perpetrator.

In response to what seems to be a logical and reasonable assertion, Maxwell found herself the victim of  social media campaign which featured tweets like this:

Maxwell's point is obviously more than valid, however apparently these Right Wing fanatics who watch Hannity's show refuse to accept that educating young men to respect women would have a much more serious, and long lasting affect on the number of rapes in this country than arming women could ever hope to achieve.

I guess in the eyes of these sorry excuses for men, if a woman cannot shoot them full of holes if they tried to rape her, then she deserves what she gets.

Why did that jackass assume that only white women are raped and then, raped by a different ethnic group?

It's scary to see how warped their minds are.

Why would you give the racist bigoted right wing nut job a happy to end his day? He usually pays half his paycheck to be probed like that, and has to supply his own LouIsville Slugger.

And now you come along and give him a freebie? That makes you an enabler if not a friend for life for this scumbag dude.

You feed that poor doggie he gonna follow you everywhere you go now.

If this isn't hypocrisy, I don't know what is.

A ghostwritten book about the commercialization of Christmas on sale for Christmas.

I guess she changed her mind about the fitness book.

Is Todd the Sex Trafficker giving out 'used condoms and facecloths' for Christmas? Is Bristol giving out 'Abstinence only and Trial Daddy' Poems? Is Willow giving out 'New Mom' Instructions for Unwed Teen Mothers? Is Track giving out 'CAIN'T GET RIGHT' Meds? Is Sarah giving out 'Don't call Curt Menard's little girl P I G' bumper stickers?

  6. No reason you can't do both. Educate our youth to the equal worth of women.....and ensure those who wish to arm themselves will be able to continue to do so.

A very brave woman. Fear of this sort of treatment is what keeps many women from testifying in court against a rapist or even reporting it in the first place.

There is no mention on the Fox News website of the interview. I've been watching, and waiting to see if they will publish anything about the interview, the reactions, and their response to the reactions. Nothing. Perhaps we should note to Fox News how they've buried the story.

Rape is not an act of sex. It is an act of power. And as long as we have women in Congress shooting off their mouths to the contrary - not to mention the rest of the idiots up there - who spout their ignorant opinions and as long as legislators keep passing laws that give the RAPIST the right to have a say about any pregnancy and so on and so on, we will NOT get any progress made on this.

OT Sarah Palin is going to write a book about Christmas: http://shelf-life.ew.com/2013/03/11/sarah-palin-christmas-book/

    Questions:
Sarah Palin can write? I thought that her stuff was ghostwritten. What's RAM going to do?
Sarah Palin is going to write about Christmas? Other than the tree and some presents, what does Sarah do to honor the religious aspect of Christmas?
Who has seen the Palin family in church?
In our community, there are many good people who provide Christmas baskets for needy families. They answer the Dear Santa letters with presents of the kids. Does Sarah do these selfless acts of charity?
Instead of participating in the commercial side of Christmas, exactly what does the Palin family do-- make home made presents and decorations?

Reading the comments at Politico and Salon, one sees a larger problem than the terrifying responses listed here. One sees a lot of folks responding with "we already teach our men not to rape", as if that ends the conversation. When there are parents like the ones who produced The Spur Posse (remember them?) then we haven't talked about it enough. And when there are Todd Akins out there, we still have some educating to do.
I admire Zerlina Maxwell greatly for starting a new level of conversation about rape/guns/sexual rights and responsibilities. And women are not just the victims. They, too, must be part of the solution.

The party of personal responsibility right? Michael in NY chickened out with his racist Obama avatar and deleted his more vile Tweets, leaving plenty that still gives normal people heartburn.

Threatening rape against anti-rape advocates is about as effective as threatening a bullet to the head against gun-safety advocates. Cognitive dissonance continues among Palin people that think they have the corner on common sense.

  16. Most rapes are committed by someone the victim knows - a friend, a co-worker, a date, a classmate, a boyfriend.

I am trying to imagine being in a situation where I decide to pull a gun and shoot my date or my co-worker.

Do these right wing nut-cases (who are all inevitably male) really want to live in a world where the woman in the next cubicle, or across the table, or in the library, or in the room next door is prepared to kill them if she feels they are threatening to her?

      Thanks, Aunt Snow.
There are those who have pointed out that if a woman isn't carrying a gun when she's raped, she'll be considered uncredible, since she didn't do all she might have in order to prevent her own rape. Can you believe it?!
And can you imagine pulling a gun and shooting someone you know? Which would you choose; getting raped by Uncle Ernie, or shooting him dead for trying to rape you? Neither scenario sounds very live-with-able.

I'm sure Sean will apologize, right?

Hannity will not apologize. He's probably sitting there smiling because he's getting so much free publicity, just being the one who interviewed Ms. Maxwell. He can sit silent, while others hurt Ms. Maxwell, and be the very thing she is talking about...the bystander who stays silent, thus, allowing the harm to be inflicted without obstruction.
It would be nice if he would make a statement in support of Ms. Maxwell's point.

if you are not a rapist, and there are many many good, decent men out there; then you need not take offense at men and women who think that the rate of rape in this country and the world is too high, and who believe in a peaceful, social solution, which is civil discussion and open minds.
please use your goodness to further the positive vibe, rather than getting in a huff over seemingly confused ways of saying emotional things

disgusting !!! the hate and racism in that tweet is over the top

reminds me of the awful situation of the woman in Florida - she fired a gun in the air to keep her husband (or boyfriend) away from her - she is now in jail for something like 20 yrs (her two young children taken away from her) - she is a woman so she doesn't get to stand her ground, she is black so she doesn't have the right to have a gun - but if she was man and shot the guy he could say "I stood my ground", if she was white she could say "I was protecting myself"

This right wing nuts have to be stopped!

  22. Why is it when gop protest for something stupid like stealing our medicare money to enrich the already insanely rich the gop scream about their 1st amend rights and carrying out their 2nd amend right literally?

When the Dems protest against something important like RAPE gop says Dem protesters aren't allowed to exercise their 1st amend right. gop will project that the Dems are referring as unpatriotic, saboteurs and stepping on the Constitution? And there is alway vitriol, threats and sometime murder and mayhem.

What these assholes are trying to do and what they are saying to this young women is despicable and vile. these crazy gun nuts will use their guns for the slightest of slights we need a thorough background checks.

They want slaves and just look how many bill against abortion, women rights, voting rights but not 1 job bill. They want small gov ha!
