Rachel Maddow points out that the Tea Party in Congress really doesn't exist anymore.

“The House Tea Party Caucus established 2010 was founded in 2010 and by halfway through 2011 accumulated 60 members, 60. But then poof. As quickly as it emerged, it appears to have fizzled. slate.com‘s Dave Weigel says the Tea Party Caucus that was supposedly shaking up Washington and changing politics haven’t met since July of last year. Their website is still up and running, so somebody is paying web hosting fees but the membership page no longer exists. Apparently the group is refiling to try to make themselves exist again in Congress, but right now they’re just not there. Haven’t been there for months. Until today, nobody really noticed, which is fine, unless the Beltway wants to keep using their supposed existence as justification for why no one listens to the Republican Party’s so-called leaders. If you don’t have existence of the Tea Party Caucus to blame for that any more, who are you going to blame instead?”

Okay so why does the media still report that the reason things cannot get done in Washington is due to this most radical faction of the Republican party? How are they exerting control, if they don't even meet anymore?

No one told Boehner, and Bachmann is still chairing meetings and having SC justices come to give Bible Study and Constitution lessons to empty chairs. Since no one is there, no one bothers to inform the media that no one is there. In other words, there is no 'there' there. But this is hardly news when one is talking about the Tea Party or the GOP. Besides, Boehner can't come clean and say he's a loser, now can he?

I thought the same thing too. "Dr. Dan" Benishek and Dave Camp are still true believers and they still vote the strict teabagger party line.

Basically, Whole GOP Base Now Supports Immigration Reform

Why are so many Republican politicians getting on board with immigration reform lately? If a new study by the Public Religion Research Institute and Brookings Institute is any indication, it’s because their constituents are getting their back.

Poll Finds Broad Support For Immigration Reform Among White, Religious, And GOP Voters

The poll talked to an unusually large number of people — 4,500 — in order to provide reliable statistics on individual demographics. What it found was majority support for reform that includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants already in the country, even in traditionally conservative communities.

According to the poll 53 percent of Republicans favor a path to citizenship versus 71 percent of Democrats and 64 percent of independents. Only a small minority is interested in granting undocumented immigrants legal status without eventual citizenship as a compromise — 13 percent of Democrats and Republicans alike and 14 percent of independents. This low number might help explain why Jeb Bush’s proposal to bar illegal immigrants from obtaining citizenship attracted so little support earlier this month. Still, 32 percent of Republicans favor mass deportation to address immigration instead.

“There is a consensus for action on immigration, and it crosses partisan lines,” the report’s authors write.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of the survey is its findings among religious Americans. Catholic and Mormon leaders are backing reform along with a broad coalition of leading evangelical organizations who are promoting immigration reform on Scriptural grounds, citing Biblical passages regarding the treatment of strangers. But it’s always been unclear how much pastors’ views on immigration align with their often conservative and white congregants.

According to the poll, those worshipers are getting on board with immigration reform, too. Per Brookings’ executive summary of their findings:

The teabaggers ARE the mainstream of the GOP now.
They have seen the enemy and the enemy is them.

Angela, I also think that the Tea Baggers are the GOP now. Their obstructionism is treasonous, imo.

The entire Republican party has been acting as though they are all teabaggers - obstructionists - jerks and assholes! Again, the media hasn't done their homework as to the fact the teabagger movement has been nil and void.

Chuck Todd is a poor example of a journalist as far as I'm concerned. His ego is huge and I stopped watching him a long time ago. My very favorite is Rachel Maddow because she does her homework and is a great, great teacher. More should view her - Republicans especially.

It really is funny how this all worked out. The Teabaggers (right off the bat that name was hysterical) were financed by the Kochs/Rove to stop Obamacare. They paid for the rallies, buses..all of it and Faux noise just ate it up creating this monster. I really think all that media noise kept the Dems home in 2010 and look what happened....their winning just gave them the idea they were wonderful and right. Now that all their bullshit was exposed and they lost to Obama again, the GOP is infected with the "ideas" of the baggers, the monster they created is out of control. Now that Ryan and Boehner have admitted there was never a debt crisis....let us think back about how all their obstruction against the recovery the last 4 years is just like the Bush/Cheney lies of Iraq. Who says history doesn't repeat itself?

Bachmann is still blathering stupid stuff. She founded the caucus and thought they would propel her into the White House. Why is she still in Congress? What an idiot.
