(Part two can be found here.)
It is not often that my daughter provides content for the blog, but last night she insisted that I watch a video, and further insisted that I share it will all of you.
The video is a rather incredible, and touching rendition of what it would be like for those of us who are heterosexual if the world suddenly found OUR sexuality deviant.
It really is quite amazing, and certainly something that I would have probably shared on my own.
But since my angel asked a favor of me, it just gives me that much more pleasure to do so.
I have to say I found this video disturbing. Are homosexuals really so unsympathetic that they need to make heterosexuality "deviant" behavior for people to feel for a child dying? It really makes me sad for society. The movie was brilliantly made though.
ReplyDeleteYou completely missed the point. The situation is flipped to show you how it feels to be homosexual in a hetero society.
DeleteSeriously, Jamiessmiles? That's what you got out of that video? Oh my.
DeleteObviously anon 1 missed my point entirely. Are you that blind to someone not her that switching it around gets to you in a way that gay kids killing themselves in droves in real life don't? If do than this shows how broken society truly is.
DeleteAnd as one who have had many friends kill themselves.... Yes anon 2, I am aware of the prejudice against my community, cheers.
Anon (2) to Jamiessmiles,
DeleteWTF are you trying to say? Maybe it's your typos that are confusing me.
great video - thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteA friend e-mailed it to me a few days ago. It was heartbreaking, and yes, very disturbing.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite understand your perception of this video, jamiesmiles. Maybe it was just the wording.
Wow! Powerful.
ReplyDeleteI'll be happy to check out your daughter's suggestions. But, this was too good not to share.

AWESOME infographic. I encourage everyone to post is everywhere than can, it's perfect.
DeleteVery moving. This is how it feels to be gay in a straight world.
ReplyDeleteAgain with the gay crap? Is this now a gay blog or what. I've been coming to the blog for months but what is with pushing these non-stop gay stories? Is this 3 or 4 today?
ReplyDeleteLynn Baxter - Maryland7:05 PM
DeleteYou are a lying sack of shit! Fuck off troll!
Thanks Gryphen for posting this asshats comment...it's probably Wallow's chunky ass....WE KNOW Wallow...we KNOW! LOL!!!
Lynn, you should have been coming to this blog at it's inception, then you would understand better.
DeleteI was going to say, "oh bless your heart".
DeleteBut I'm opting for "bite me" instead.
It would be unkind to encourage you or give you any false hope.
Lynn, it's his blog. Fucking write your own non -gay blog.
DeleteLynn, since you are so rude, ignorant and probably a moron you don't deserve any explanation. Feel better?
DeleteLynn, you are welcome to no longer come to this blog, really, I encourage you. How stunningly disrespectful of you to make such a post. We won't miss you when you leave, we get our fill of bigots and homophobes other places, but this blog is not one of them. And I can't say it any more clearly than this: GO FUCK YOURSELF.
DeleteWhat's eating Lynn Baxter?
DeleteRemember when SP was caught writing letters to the editor on behalf of donors, I wonder if this might be part of that....
DeleteI dunno, Lynn, maybe this is a blog that holds gay rights in a certain esteem, perhaps one that reflects a level of respect and understanding that reflects that of someone who is a mature adult who isn't tied up by bigotry and hate?
DeleteThis blog champions many causes: Palin's depravity, gay rights, separation of church and state, education...where you been?
DeleteYou're a great dad, Gryphen.
ReplyDeleteBBB

Great video. I will recommend it to some of my students.
ReplyDeleteThis film is crushingly painful. I hope it finds the right audience and opens and moves hearts. We've got to do better to embrace, support, and cherish all our children.
ReplyDeleteGryphen, thanks for sharing this film. It speaks truth to the root problems in society. Labeling, Bullying, Tolerance vs Acceptance, words do matter and love is all you need.
ReplyDeleteThank your Daughter, too. She made a great contribution to your blog.
I love your daughter Jesse, I watched both parts knowing that as I was confronted with each issue I saw it as was portrayed and yes, I understood the implications of what was going on. As a straight guy, I know, it sometimes sucks being gay just because not everybody gets that you are a regular person, and are deserving of respect, and not everybody lives the way that is portrayed in "Leave it To Beaver".
ReplyDeleteI dunno, I've had a few tonight, so have one for me and give your daughter a hug when you see her, she's awesome.
Speaking of Shakespeare:
ReplyDelete"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
Every time I read or hear some deviant railing against homosexuality, its never in a calm, reasonable sounding manner.
Its always sopping wet with hatred and fear. As the late great Andy Rooney would ask, "Why do you think that is?"
I suspect our "Lynn" visitor is riddled with self doubt, and it translates into self hatred, shared liberally with anyone around her.
A well adjusted heterosexual views LGBT's with pronounced NEUTRALITY. Anything other than that, is an indication of a person in need of counseling or therapy.
Thank you for sharing. Even though I have always supported the LGBT community, it was a good reminder.
ReplyDeleteReminds me a "game" we played when I was in the 8th grade (which, OMG I just realized was 1958!). When we came into the class room, Sister Jean stopped us at the door and looked into our eyes. "Brown" she declared loudly to me and directed me to a chair in the back of the room. At recess those of us with brown eyes were not allowed to play on the playground. At lunch we had to eat at our own table and we had to use the rest room all the way on top floor. I can still remember what it felt like...I was still me, but somehow I was a lesser me because of my eye color. I have often thought what a valuable lesson I was taught that day. (FYI, Sister Jean got a LOT of friction about this and quit being a nun. I never saw her again, but wish I could tell her how much of a impression she left on me).
This film gave me that same feeling.
I think Rod Serling did a version of this (acceptable for audiences at that time) called "Eye of the Beholder". He was way ahead of this problem. - 1960 Twilight Zone - "Janet Tyler is in hospital having undergone treatment to make her look normal. It's her 11th trip to the hospital for treatment and she is desperate to look like everyone else. Some of her earliest childhood memories are of people looking away, horrified by her appearance. Her bandages will soon come off and she can only hope that this, her last treatment, will have done the trick. If not, her doctor has told she will be segregated with a colony of similar looking people. All that to say that truth is truly in the eye of the beholder." - IMDB - Janet Tyler looks normal to us and then the nurse and doctor's faces are shown to us and we understand the story. This episode should be seen by everyone!
ReplyDeleteI could have usd a warning Gryphen! I'm sitting here at work trying not to cry! The video is very well done, very moving. Now, I have to pull myself back together and get back to work.
ReplyDeleteGryphen,
ReplyDeleteI think your daughter should contribute more often. She is a wise girl.
