Actual 4th grade "science" test in South Carolina private school.

This is the kind of thing that absolutely drives me nuts!

Purposefully teaching children bullshit is absolutely child abuse in my opinion.

Take a look at this model of Noah's Ark featured at a Creationist Museum.

This may seem like a small thing, but when you consider how drastically you impair a child's ability to pursue a higher education while saddled with this religious misinformation you can imagine how negatively that impacts their future.

I can remember sitting in a Philosophy class once where the subject matter literally sent a girl educated in a Christian high school fleeing the room in tears.

To be honest. Noah's ark is my favorite story to discuss with fundie's. To hear them defend and explain how that happened is hysterical. Needless to say I don't get invited over to dinner a second time.

You mean trying to get two pairs of all living animals (four pairs of the "clean" animals) into that tiny boat? Of course, it leads to all kinds of fun questions!

four pairs of the "clean" animals

My favorite is the Adam and Eve story. If they had two sons and were told to "be fruitful and multiply", wouldn't that mean the two boys boinking their Mom?

Yeah, I don't get invited to dinner either, but it's their loss!

      Anita Winecooler,

"the two boys boinking their Mom", or perhaps they were boinking each other? The origin of homosexuality?

  2. Yes, it is definitely child abuse, and it's been in the news more than once lately about kids being forced into remedial classes in college because they have received such a poor education up until then. I can only imagine once those students get out in the real world, the whole fiction is going to backfire on the people who tried to make them believe that nonsense. I don't think it will help their cause even a little bit if they don't keep the kids penned up and away from reality for their entire lives.

Ummm it already has! Take a look at Congress "a woman's body shuts down during a rape..." and all the stupid shit that emotes from those fundie idiots! Wanna bet they were taught in "Private" schools like this.

    2. They'll be ridiculed by the educated and likely suffer economically because they either cannot get or cannot retain any good jobs. No employer wants these sort of dumbasses as employees. It reflects badly on whatever the business is.

I agree, Lynne. It certainly helps explain the trend in businesses that run tutorial lessons, SAT prep courses etc. etc. NONE of these existed when I was growing up. Yeah, there was the occasional "private tutor" for a tough subject, but not enough to make profits off of.

These kids are certainly not being prepared for competition with other countries whose science classes are free of such nonsense.

The only question in which the answer is probably nearly correct is the average size of dinosaurs as sheep. Many dinos were huge, but many were tiny and others in between so as an average it could be close to reality, but that would take a lot of real science to arrive at that answer. Whoever wrote that "test" is in no way qualified to even attempt that analysis.

Christian talibangelicals in action. Jesus and Mary infest Kansas governor's head version.

"Picture shows handwritten 'JESUS + Mary' on Kansas governor's notes on anti-abortion bill "

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/kansas-gov-signs-anti-abortion-bill-article-1.1322804

"On Friday, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback signed the state's strict anti-abortion legislation, which says that life 'begins at fertilization.' A photo revealed a page of notes on the bill that include 'JESUS + Mary' written at the top and his belief that the bill would create 'a culture of life' further down."

I would consider it a badge of honor if a had a child that totally failed that test.

I have the opinion that any student having come from a home school or fundie school can only be admitted to a scientific higher education if they have demonstrated they have totally failed all these science "tests".

  11. When they go to Christian College doesn't it just keep being perpetuated? Lots go off to those Christian colleges, don't they?

This should be against the law. Are there no controls over the curriculum at this faith based schools? The poster above is correct -- we are well on the way to becoming a third world country. Shameful!

I don’t know why I even pay attention to these idiots. But, as far as higher education in my town the Christinistas send their kids to Christian schools and then Christian universities. Like Liberty. They never have to interface with reality if they don’t choose another course. I also notice their kids come home from these schools wondering what the hell to do with the rest of their lives. This is when they get jobs at the Christian school or Sunday school.

Now I'll be really picky... this isn't even 4th grade work. First graders can read the first part of Genesis and answer those questions. If this is the best they are expected to do by 4th grade, its not just science instruction that is woefully lacking.

  18. And the same people that fight for the right of such "schools" to be subsidized by tax payer dollars are the same that criticize public school test score comparisons and negatively compare the U.S. education system to those worldwide.

You can't teach crap and then criticize the U.S. as being unable to compete worldwide.

You're contributing to the problem, dumbass!

  21. Come to think of it, how can one man build a ship that large, in a short amount of time, gather 2 of each animal (some you can't tell the sex, some highly dangerous) and clean up all that shit? And its likely the old man Noah and his wife had help building and stocking their ship...so why didn't they take at least one additional family with them?

BTW, if that is an actual test not only is the material flawed but the test is wrong as far as page lay-out and style of the test.

Private school to gop is homeschooling.

My daughter is in 4th grade (public school). This year, in science, she has studied the Solar System, energy and electromagnetism, and animal genetics.

My first grader has studied animal habitats, geology/Earth science, and did an individual science project involving potential and kinetic energy (all the kids did their own science project that involved everything from volcanos to aerospace technology, to chemistry).

They love science. It's one of their favorite things to study.

    That quiz is an abomination.
