There was some confusion that this might be Trig, but nope. Tripp has had those glasses for awhile now. I remember first seeing them on Sadie's Facebook page.
I did not find anything weird, or nefarious, about the post, though it did serve to make sure people realized that the Grizzled Mama. despite some stories to the contrary, was back in Wasilla.
Now where Trig is during this Easter egg hunting expedition is anybody guess. Come to think of it when was the last time he was photographed with his mama?

As a special ed teacher of low incidence kids, I can attest to the fact that it is very hard to get some special needs children to not only wear their glasses, but to actually USE them and their vision. I have personally written many IEP's that include wearing glasses or using glasses in an appropriate way as IEP goals. Bash sarah for being a horrible mother (she deserves it), but please don't pick on such a little thing as Trig looking over the top of his glasses. He most likely is still being trained to wear them.

Why would Trig's caretakers not want to try something available and could help him?
If Sarah Palin wasn't someone in the public eye who has been dressing her children for media, her fan base and donors for years it might make sense she has a child wearing poorly fitting glasses.
If it was only one or two photos of Trig like like that it would be one thing. When you do see him in glasses, she is allowing him to be shown as we see him time and again. Looking sad that no one seems to care. He is how old, five years now? No one can do better for Trig by now? People are disgusted and someone needs to address the issues she has brought up with the photos she allows her staff to display with Trig.
You are a professional and you see a lot of children like this? I am not bashing Sarah so much, I don't think she has much to do with Trig. It is her staff or whoever is given charge to have his needs met. Palin as a legal parent is responsible overall but she delegated the job to someone else. That is the person that needs to explain why it looks like he is neglected and mistreated in regard to his vision.

Unfortunately, yes, I do see kids all the time with ill fitting glasses, scratched lenses, gummy finger prints on the lenses- so bad I'm sure the child can see just as well without those glasses, and wrong prescriptions, ALL THE TIME! Some of the reasons? It's really hard to be consistent day after day, hour after hour. It's easier to not do anything. There are parents who really don't care, and don't think it will make any difference because the child is "retarded" - their view not mine. Unfortunately, I have had students who had glasses and I didn't even know about it because the parents did not follow through and train their child to wear them. It is hard to train the to wear them sometimes. It can be an ongoing daily battle. Sarah is acting like many parents of special needs children.

I doubt that applies to the whole country. I know many people over the years in the educational system, including special needs. I have never hear of a big problem with bad parents. I know there are faults that are in the system, faults with parents, faults with faculty and individuals. Most kids go to school presentable or if too out of line they get attention. Even drug addict parents have been known to respond to obvious things like glasses with worthless lens.
I have a hard time seeing well to do parents being held to low standards of the not well off parents. It is just the opposite if you ask me. Parents that are more fortunate often want to give back and help others. Say a kid comes to school in soleless shoes, no coat, ripped shirt or what have you... many teachers and parents would do something positive. My heavens, I can't imagine a school in the United States that has a trend where special needs kids glasses are scratched and so forth and it just escalates. I am not saying it doesn't happen it is a grim picture that is hard to believe. If much of the country is like that then it is no wonder so many expect Sarah to sink down to the low standards of the worst parents.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the teacher who said it is hard to keep glasses on DS kids. You can see that he has a strap to keep them on, but he also has a very flat bridge (all DS kids do) on his nose. Therefore, the glasses slide down. Obviously the picture was taken at an angle to show both of them, but notice the distant between them. Very cold body language.
Hard to say when the AZ Trig pic was taken. He was there just before xmas and a few times this year. Temperatures remain constant so that give is out.
